Chapter Twenty: Rain and Sorrow

Thunder boomed overhead as Jacob ran up to the boat. As the light continued to flash and the sounds continued to wail, Jacob dashed right for the ladder to climb up the marooned vessel. He could hardly believe seeing and hearing the sounds and sights coming from the vessel. The teen hoped that this was starting to mean that someone would be coming for him. When he made it to the top, he heard the radio going off. He heard a man's voice saying, "This is the captain of Coast Guard calling the S.S. Blizzard.

"Can anybody read me? Over." He questioned over the radio just when Jacob made it into the cabin. He threw open the door and made for the radio. Picking up the receiver he pressed the button and said, "Yes, this is the S.S. Snowstorm, I read you loud and clear, Captain, over."

"S.S. Snowstorm, we hear you and we ask that you give us your location, over." The captain requested. This left Jacob stumped a little as he didn't know how to give them a sign about where he was. Deciding to at least tell the truth as best as he could, he pressed the button again, "Uh, Captain, that's going to be a little hard to explain."

"Just do your best, son. We know that this has probably been a traumatic experience for you." The captain told him. A little worried on how he would tell them, Jacob went and said, "The best that I could explain my location is that it's not on Earth or something like that."

"Anyway that you could at least tell us how to get to you?" The captain asked him. It was then he took notice of the weather. The odd clouds and lightning could be seen and thought that's how the signal was getting through. Jacob shook his head, "If the storm is on your side, then you need to find some large markers sitting in the middle of the ocean. That's how I ended up here."

It was then that his phone started going off just as the rain started to fall. He pulled it out of his pack and looked at the screen to see who it was. Tears started to well up in his eyes to see that the caller I.D. read his parents. And it was a face-to-face call. Pressing the button and turning it sideways, Jacob was both surprised and relieved when the call came through. One the other side of the screen were his parents. A dark headed man with a long black beard and white shirt with a brown-haired woman who was wearing what looked to be a green dress. Jacob fought to control himself when he said, "Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad."

"Oh, Jacob. Thank goodness you're alright." His mother gave a relieved sigh. From the looks on their faces they had been greatly worried. Jacob nodded, "Yeah, I'm doing okay. And before I forget, I need to keep talking to-"

"We already know about the Coast Guard captain." His father calmly told him. Confused, he asked, "How exactly do you already now?"

"We've been coming to the Coast Guard station every chance we got to see if there had been any word on you." His mother said. Jacob rubbed the back of his head and said, "Well, before we go any further, I need you to tell Uncle Simon that the boat may be a little wrecked."

"You can just tell me right now." A new voice said, surprising Jacob once again. He asked, "Uncle Simon?"

"Yeah, I'm here too." His uncle said from the side. Then Simon said, "Just put the video on the monitor. That way you can see us better."

"What monitor?" Jacob asked, not remembering any monitor for stuff like this on the boat. His uncle then told him, "Go down to the living quarters and over to the cabinet. Press the button-"

"That you usually tell me not to push." Jacob guessed the rest of that sentence. Uncle Simon then confirmed, "Yeah that's the one."

"Just give me a minute." Jacob said before rushing out to get to the living quarters. When he reached the space, he moved over to the large cabinet on the right side and immediately found the button. With a quick press of it, Jacob took a step back and watched as a compartment opened up and a flat screen rose from the middle. It immediately turned on and after a button pushing's of his own, Jacob got it to where he could see his parents' faces on the screen. He then asked, "Can you guys hear me?"

(Cue Fall of Bardock from DBS: Broly)

"Yeah, we can hear you loud and clear." His mother nodded followed up with a nod from his father. It was then that she moved her phone back a little so Uncle Simon could be seen in the frame. Placing the phone down on the table before the monitor, Jacob said, "Uncle Simon, about the boat, I promise I'll do whatever it takes to-"

"Oh forget about that right now. I'm just glad to know that you're safe, kid." Uncle Simon shook his head. Jacob rubbed his arm, "I just thought that since you love this boat so much."

"Oh, I'm sure Mister Cameron will give me another after working really hard for him." His uncle waved off. Jacob's father then asked, "Son, where exactly are you? The Coast Guard couldn't track your signal when you didn't come back."

"W-Well, you see, that's a great question." Jacob said, again not sure about how to explain his whereabouts. He then said, "Well, while trying to get to the island before the storm could hit, I saw some markers in the water. I just told the captain about them.

"I tried turning back when I saw it coming, but something must have happened and I ended up in a different dimension or something." He shrugged. Then he added, "And I know how ludicrous it sounds, but I am telling the truth. And I got some pictures to prove it.

"You don't have to worry about sounding ludicrous, son." His father shook. Jacob quirked a brow and asked, "Really? What's been going on back home?"

"All of that can be explained later, dear nephew. Right now, or main priority is to get you home." His uncle said. Jacob gave a sigh when he said, "If I'm ever able to find a way home."

"I'm sure that there is a way." His mother confidently nodded. Glancing to the men beside her she said, "And we'll call up anyone who might be able to help us. Just keep looking on your end too, okay."

"I will." Jacob nodded, really wanting to get back to them. Another man appeared in the frame and was wearing a sailor's suit. Jacob then asked, "Are you the captain of the Coast Guard."

"Indeed I am." The man nodded. Then he asked, "Where exactly are these markers that you had told us about. I have some boats out on the water, but they aren't really seeing anything due to the storm."

"They have to be out there somewhere. Otherwise, I don't think that's how I'm talking to you." Jacob said, wondering where the markers are. But his thoughts became worrisome when they heard a fifth voice said, "Sir, we're starting to lose the signal."

He was right as the video started freezing up and glitching every now and then. Tears almost escaped his eyes when Jacob moved a little closer and fearfully said, "Don't go just yet, please."

"Don't give up. There is a way for you to get back." His mother said, a really worried look adorning her face. The picture became a little more clear again, but they didn't know for how long. His father placed a hand against the screen and Jacob did the same as his father said, "Listen, Jacob. Just try to stay alive and get back, okay."

"Right. I will." Jacob nodded, though not wanting them to go away just yet. He wished that they were on their way right now. But he also knew that that would mean going through the storm. His lip trembled when they all had sad smiles on their faces and he said, "I love you."

Then the video feed cut out and on the blue screen now had the words SIGNAL LOST. Wiping away the tears to keep himself from crying he jumped when a boom of thunder came. He moved over to the window to see how bad the storm would be getting. But as he looked about, the strange lightning seemed to be dancing all over the place. When he looked up to the rock formation at the shore, his eyes widened when he saw something at the top. Multiple bolts of lightning seemed to converge at a single spot at the top.

Having a feeling that it could be something to get him home, Jacob quickly dashed up the stairs. With hardly a care in the world, Jacob jumped from the boat, raced across the ledge, up onto the cliff, down an opening and made for the slope. He rushed past the Kestodon herd just as they tried to find shelter from the storm and some watched him move about the rocky shore. Jacob had to fight to keep his balance in some places, but managed to reach the base. Doing his best to keep a hold on the slippery surface, he started to scale the wall. The teen cried out when he lost his footing but somehow managed to keep his grip on cliff face.

Jacob panted when he reached a point where he could pull himself up. As he stood at the top of the rock, he looked towards the summit and saw the lightning still converging with each strike. Making his way up the slope of the tall rock, Jacob had to wince from the intense light coming from the spot. Still wondering if it was a portal back to his world, he came closer and what he could see, it looked almost like a tunnel. Thinking that this could be his only chance, Jacob reached out for the portal. But the portal was a bit further out of his reach and so he strained to at least grab a hold of it if he could.

But just when he thought that he could at least touch it, a bolt of lightning came down behind Jacob. The shockwave sent the boy falling over the edge and he screamed as he fell. The next thing he felt was the sting of cold water when he crashed down into the ocean of the New World. With a kick he burst up through the surface with a gasp and swam for a small mound of rock not too far from him. After climbing onto the rock, Jacob looked back up the tower of stone to see if he still had a chance. But to his horror, the only chance that could be his way home disappeared with a flash.

(End of track)

A mixture of emotions ran through Jacob, anger, sadness and fear. He fell to his knees and slammed his fists against the rock a couple times. Tears ended up mixing with the rain when he looked up to the sky and shouted, "What is it you're wanting from me, huh?

"What is the purpose of me being here?!" He questioned through gritted teeth. When he didn't get a sign he shouted, "Tell me!"

His echoed throughout the storm as it continued to rage on. Seeming to be defeated at the moment, Jacob hung his head and started sobbing at what felt like the last time he would ever be in contact with his home.

Author's Note: Man, that was a heavy chapter in its own way. And there are times when we all feel we have to put the blame on someone or something. Whether it be a person or God. I won't lie, I have been upset, when I've lost a loved one or maybe something hasn't gone my way. But at the end of the day, I know that what has happened is part of the bigger plan. This is honestly the second heaviest chapter in my opinion. And don't even try to ask me, you'll just have to wait and see for that one. But we do have one more chapter in this arc and then its on to the next one. Also, there will not be any more chapters regarding Earth after this, only in reference. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See all of you next time.
