Chapter 10
It was mid afternoon and Izaya was still stuck up the tree with no where to go, while the snarling dog had calmed down and for the most part had gotten bored of him, it was now now taking a nap at the base of the tree. The raven was to scared to descend and wake the slumbering beast, not wanting to end up on the business end of those teeth.
Looking around Izaya took in where he was. He was still very far from his bespectacled friends house, he was perched in a tree at the edge of a park, ironically the very one near the intersection he got way more closely acquainted with the pavement and random dumpster then he ever planned.
'Exactly how long am I going to have to stay up here' The raven kitten pondered to himself. Glancing down at himself Izaya finally realized what bad shape he ended up in, he slowly took inventory of his injury's.
'Ok my head is stinging from getting hit with one of those rocks' he thinks gentle pawing at his temple, he looks at his paw as it comes away wet with blood, next he pulls his right back leg forward. 'yep that's bleeding too, dog got me good on my way up here. I'm lucky it didn't get a good enough grip to pull me back down... wouldn't have been pretty.' he Huff's out a sigh 'when is that thing going to leave.'
Izaya was dozing by the time a flash of yellow caught his eye, at first he hoped it was the golden dog leaving, sadly the dog was still at the foot of the tree. It was Shizuo walking down the street, he was parting with his debt collector partner Tom and after walking up to the intersection he just paused.
It didn't take a genius to figure out why the blond had stopped or what he was thinking.
Izaya was well aware that his death had been bothering the beast. Although he knew why, it was still surprising to watch the man's expression faulted as he stood stock still at the intersection not crossing, he stayed right there until a driver blared their horn at the blond before he began to move once more with a scowl, but Shizuo was not heading home he instead was walking towards the park scuffing his dress shoes along the asphalt as he went.
Izaya stayed still in his tree to avoid being spotted, his dark fur blending him into the shadowy foliage, he watched as the blond man walked past and sat on a close by bench.
Shizuo simply gazed blankly at the streets, his grip on the bench starting to splintering the wooden seat, he clenched his jaw and finally throws his head back slumping into to the bench.
The faint sound of the man muttering something under his breath floated up to the little cat in the tree, Izaya caught his name near the end.
Izaya's heart clenched in his chest. 'I've barely lived with Shizu-chan for over a week, why is this effecting me... I hate Shizu-chan, he killed me, squashed me like a bug in the street... I shouldn't be feeling anything besides satisfaction right now.'
His tail stared tapping hard against the bark of the tree in iteration at his own emotions. 'is the little unconditional affections the blond beast has shown me over this past week really messing me up this much... I don't like this, this awful guilty feeling, I'm the one that died why should I feel bad about this. Damn I must really be deprived of positive attention.'
After a quick look around the info broker turned cat gave up. 'Fine... just this once, I'm only doing this so can get way from this beast that's guarding me like a I'm some snack, no other reason Shizu-chan.'
The moment Izaya kept from the final branch and his paws hit the soft grass below the dog jumped to it's feet with growl. Clearly exited it meal had come down to be eaten.
Izaya made a run for it. 'From one beast to another' He laughs to himself, or perhaps at himself, not that it mattered.
He need as loud as he could on his way to the blond on the bench and watched with relief as the startled blond sat up straight in alarm at the familiar sound.
'Flea!' This time the name that slipped from his mouth, though surprised held a gentle worry rather then the resign sadness from earlier.
The name that one was a signal for him to flee from the blond brought a warmness to his heart and had him running into the blonds waiting arms.
Now safe in Shizuo Chan's arms, far out of the dogs reach, the barking fading into the back ground. He vaguely heard the blond growl back at the beast, likely being enough to scare it off, but in the end Izaya didn't care anymore, he felt safe. 'I wonder how this would feel if I was still human, would it be just as comforting, maybe more so since I wouldn't feel like it was a lie... that's right, this affection isn't really for me, but why do I still crave it.'
"Shit!" Shizuo pulls his hand back from petting his little kittens head. "That's blood! Fuck Flea, what happen to you, how did you even get out here."
Izaya watched lazily from the others arms as worry painted the others face.
"fuck, shit yer legs messed up too... ok Flea, I'm gonna take you to see a friend, he's not really a vet but he should be able to patch you up a bit." Shizuo sighed heavily, he's word starting to trail off. "I guess this is as good an excuse as any... to ask Shinra... about that."
Izaya flicked an ear and glanced up at the man holding him securely to his chest. 'I'm guessing, by "that" your referring to me, so you've been moping about killing me without getting the confirmation from Shinra that Celty ended up bringing back a dead corpse to him?' Izaya hung his head in resignation. 'Guess this mappings about to get worse huh beast? Fine, whatever let's go then, I was trying to go see Celty anyway.'
Next Chapter Shinra and Celty shall make an entrance.
