Chapter 17

Izaya's morning started like any other, or at least like many others in the past few months. He woke curled up on Shizuo's chest, thank the gods the man wasn't a fitful sleeper. He could imagine the destruction in the morning would be a nightmare if the blond kicked around in his sleep; it was nice Izaya could sleep comfortably on his chest throughout the night without worrying he'd be dumped off.

This morning Izaya decided to wake his Shizu-chan in a way he knew the blond would find adorably sweet, he laughed to himself, it was so weird wanting the blond to view him as cute of all things.

Pushing his nose along the edge of the other mans blanket he managed to get his head under and slip his body into darkness, clambering over the blonds arm till he reached the slumbering man's hand and settling his small body into his palm before gently licking the adjoining wrist with his rough tongue, effectively stirring his Shizu-chan with his sand paper kisses on the sensitive skin.

When the blonde lifted the blanket with his other hand, revealing him sitting smugly in the man palm, the kitten received the loveliest smile from his Shizu-chan. That was the expression he was longing to see for his antics.

"Good mornin' Flea, your quite the little pest this morning aren't you."

Shizuo placed him down on his pillow and began to move around the room getting ready for the day. Izaya took the opportunity to jump down from the bed and position himself in one of his many hiding spots so he could perform his morning ambush on the blonde once he came out of his bed room.

As soon as Shizuo exited his room he was already laughing at him as he called out. "So Flea, where are you hiding this morning you silly little thing?" amusement rang clear in the blond man's voice.

When Shizuo entered the kitchen Izaya leapt from his place on top of the garbage bin right next to the door way, landing on the front of the man's shirt and sticking to him like a fuzzy little piece of Velcro.

Peeling the mischievous kitten from his front Shizuo placed him on his shoulder and went to make breakfast. "Well if you done for the morning what do you say to some food little Flea?"

Izaya chirped him a quick mew of confirmation, staying happily perch on the blonds shoulder as he prepares the food.

After they had eaten and before Shizuo left for work he placed Izaya on to the couch and gave his head a quick pet.

"See you later Flea, try to be good and don't destroy the place." He made a tiny sound of acknowledgment and watched as Shizuo left for the day.

At this point Izaya already knew every inch if Shizuo's home, really there wasn't much for him to do during the day. He'd down all his snooping with in the first few weeks of his stay and he'd long since stopped his childish pranks of hiding things or making a mess while the other was gone.

He'd mostly sleep on the couch and flip through channels on Shizuo's small out dated TV, mostly landing on cartoons and news channels. Even stuck as a cat he liked to keep up on what was going on outside the small apartment he shared with the blonde. During the busier times of the day he'd perch himself on the window sill and watch the occasional human walking by or chatting on the streets below.

When evening started to approach he picked out a good ambush stop and waited for Shizuo to come home. Morning or night, surprising some affection out of the blond was always to fun to pass up.

Izaya had been feeling a little off all day though, his chest a little heavy and now curled up under the side table the feeling had progressed to a constant tugging, no longer feeling weighed down but like his heart was being pulled up and out his throat. Izaya curled up into himself as tight as he could, as if trying to keep his heart in his chest as it desperately tried to escape.

He wouldn't call what he was experiencing painful per say, but it was dizzying, disorienting and he was starting to feel light headed. Soon he felt his consciousness slip him by, no matter how hard he tried to stay awake he found himself passing out and barely managing to slowly pull himself back into the waking world. It felt like moments but he had no idea how long he'd really been out or if Shizuo had come home while he was out.

The ravens while body felt stiff and he struggled to pry his heavy eyes open.

But something felt off, lifting his limbs he soon realized why. He was laying flat in his back; he was back in a body he'd been away from for far too long, Izaya was human again. He was no longer in the dim space under the table in Shizuo's apartment but lying in a familiar hospital bed in his doctor friend's apartment.

It took a good 20 minutes of struggling to get his body to move and to pry his eyes open, fully pulling himself into consciousness, even then his body refused to move the way he wanted. The moment he tried to take a deep breath he realized he had no control of his own breathing, his throat working against the obstruction in panic, air being forced in and out as his gag reflex caused him distress. In the end he tumbled from the bed, the sheets tangled around his legs as he clawed weakly at his throat, somewhere in his panic knowing he couldn't pull the tube out on his own, that he wasn't going to suffocate, but needing to do something with his hands in his panic.

The thud of his body hitting the floor sent Shinra racing down the hall to find him lying sprawled embarrassingly out on the floor panicking to remove the tube. The doctor was at his side in moments, tilting the ravens head back and removing the breathing tube.

"Morning Shinra~" Izaya managed to croak out, his throat dry and his voice weak from lack of use and his fight with the tube.

"Izaya? Your awake, and err up, sort of." Shinra's surprise slowly transitioned to amusement at see him on the floor.

Izaya huffed indignantly. "Yeeeaaah... Great to see you too Shinra. I'm having a bit of trouble moving as you can see."

"Well that's normal after being comatose for nearly a year. It will take some time before you have the muscle strength to move like you used too, but give it an hour or so and you should at least be able to get up off the floor." His friend informed him cheerfully.

"Yeah thanx for that helpful tidbit, but you know what would be even more helpful? If you came over here and helped me get back on the bed..." The raven bit out sarcastically, Izaya was in no mood to be made fun of the moment he was back in his body. The fact that said body refused to properly listen to him was distressing enough, he didn't need this right now.

Shinra laughed at his snippy remark. "Yes, yes, sorry about that Orihara-kun, I'll get you up right away."

The moment the doctor had got Izaya settled on the edge of the bed he smiled at him excitedly. "Sooo how was living for nearly a year with Shizuo, was it fun being a kitten and all. You should really thank my darling Celty, you wouldn't be here right now if it weren't for her, bless her kind heart, even saving number one human trash like you."

Izaya rolled his eyes as he gushed over his loves deeds. "Right Shinra so very kind, but we both know she only did that for my Shizu-chan's sake."

" Haha 'My Shizu-chan' since when did you start referring to him as yours, you've become a rather possessive little kitty haven't you~ How cute I-za-yaa~."

His bespectacled friend didn't seem like he was going to stop laughing any time soon and his expense and this whole conversation was starting to annoy him to no end, to bad just walking away wasn't exactly an option yet.

As Shinra went on about how to tow ended up bonding and poking fun and Izayas emotional state for the past 40 minutes, he could feel his face heating up. "Shut up Shinra..." He'd been flexing and moving his limbs about as they spoke and he was finally starting to get the hang of controlling his body again. The raven experimentally got on to his feet and slowly limped around the room before concluding he could move well enough.

"I'm thirsty" he mumbled as he passes by Shinra and down the hall to the kitchen to grab a glass of water.

Without wasting any more time Izaya went to the front door and fumbled around with his shoes and coat, his fine motor skills were still very clumsy making the whole process rather frustrating for him.

Shinra who had been following him and chattering away not seeming to care his raven friend was now completely ignoring him, paused when he realized Izaya was going to leave.

"Hey! You're not seriously going to leave like that?! You only just woke up... from a freaking year long coma! You should be resting and getting used to moving properly. Where are you even going at this time? It's gotten dark already."

"Im going to go see Shizu-chan, bye." He answered bluntly, not giving much care to weather the other agreed with his plans or not.

"Are you serious, you know just seeing you rubs him the wrong way, there is no way you'll be able to run or even dodge when you're in that condition."

Izaya continued getting his shoes on, clearly not caring about his friend's opinion on the matter.

"Izaya please be reasonable, in your weakened state you won't survive a hit form Shizuo." the brunet begged him to reconsider.

"I'll be fine Shinra, Shizuo won't try to hit me on sight like he used to, not with how upset he's been since he convinced himself he killed me off." Izaya's voice was very matter a fact, stronger now and starting to sound more like himself, if not still a little scratchy.

"Well I still think it's a horrible idea to go test that theory right after you just woke up, lucky to even be alive I might add."

"Right, see you Shinra." Izaya said offhandedly as he left the apartment, shutting to door behind him, leaving his friend to except his decision whether he liked it or not. Izaya didn't care right now; he just wanted to go see Shizuo as himself, to speak with him and hopefully start a new kind of relationship with the blond that wasn't based off hate and threats to kill.

He was rather excited if not anxious; Izaya was sure even nervous he'd be skipping down the street right now if his movements weren't still so stiff. He still had a small limp but he was mostly able to hide and compensate for his odd clumsy movements by the time he reached Shizuo's apartment, the walk helping to loosen up his muscles.
