A/N: Basically, Jacob puts his little plan into motion and then a time skip. I don't plan on this chapter being too long.

Chapter Thirty-Eight: Enough is Enough

Jacob had to wait until the next morning to go and check out what he saw. When he stepped up onto the deck of the boat and looked down to the island, the Lagiacrus was just slipping into the waters of the New World. She left the three round things alone as she disappeared beneath the surface. Taking only his shield, Jacob quickly makes his way off the vessel and down to the water. Approaching the slope, he looked down and saw that there wasn't any Kestodon to worry about for the moment. Quickly moving down the slope, Jacob carefully made his way towards the little island. Even standing on the shore, Jacob couldn't really see the things all that well. The only thing he could tell that they looked big for a rock. Once again hoping it wasn't what he was thinking that it was, Jacob stepped into the water to get a closer look. As he came closer to the little island, they were looking more and more like regular rocks by the second.

When he stepped onto the little piece of land and was looking down at them, Jacob tilted his head at the three stones in curiosity. Glancing around to make sure that she wasn't coming back, he knelt down and slowly stretched his arm towards one of the stones. But just when his fingers lightly brushed against the surface, Jacob's head snapped up when he noticed movement coming in from the sea. Feeling greatly worried, the teen quickly rushed for the shore. One of his feet had just touched the dirt when the Lagiacrus' head erupted from the water behind him and threw him off his feet. Landing against the shore, Jacob turned to look back to see her raising her head high above him and quickly moved to get away. He climbed up the hill and when he looked again, he was very surprised to see that she wasn't coming up after him. All she really did was roar up at him before turning back to the little island. The Lagiacrus wrapped herself around the three stones with her back facing him.

Raising the hand that had touched the stones, he was indeed relieved to know that they were indeed just rocks. The boy figured that they must be a part of her way of coping with the loss of her eggs. Jacob sighed as he could only hope that she doesn't stay dependent on those three rocks forever. He cast one more look to her before turning away and going further up the hill.

Three weeks passed and things hadn't really changed for the Lagiacrus. She was barely able to catch anything when he saw her hunting, she would sing her sad song just about every night and some days she would barely move at all. Every time he returned to the boat, he would look down and see her either watching over the rocks, her body wrapped around the rocks when she was asleep and even nuzzling them from time to time. It was after watching over the trio for Mama and Papa and getting a small meal in return that things seemed to go really wrong.

The sun had long set when Jacob came down from the Ancient Tree and through one of the openings to go to the boat to rest. The only thing he was carrying at the time was his shield. Coming to the edge of the cliff, Jacob glanced down at the Lagiacrus' rock to see her once again curled around the rocks, just enough space to where she wasn't fully constricting them but to where she was protecting them. Her head was facing towards him, but more specifically, his uncle's boat.

Even from this distance, Jacob could see her twitching in her sleep. And from the growls he could hear, it didn't sound good to him. His eyes widened when he saw the dermal spikes on her back begin to glow and her head lifted up a little before launching an electrified sphere in his direction. Jacob dropped down and the projectile flew over his head. It collided with the rocks behind him and the resulting explosion shook the cliff. Shakily rising to his feet, Jacob looked to where the projectile landed and became very worried when he saw the smoking crater. He turned his head back to her and saw that her dermal spikes were still glowing, likely another attack on the way.

Knowing that he didn't have a lot of time, Jacob rushed back through the opening. He lost his footing when he emerged from the tall grass and slid a bit. While he did feel a little sore from it, Jacob didn't let it stop him as he got back up and continued running. After reaching the top of the slope, Jacob looked down to see the glow of her dermal spikes starting to grow in power again. Having a really bad feeling, Jacob made his way down to try and snap her out of it. He slid to a stop on the shore and tried to think of what to do. Only one idea came to mind and he removed the shield from his arm. Quickly moving to the little island, he scooped up some sea water into his shield. Coming around her form just as her head was about to raise Jacob through the water with a shout, "Hey! Wake up!"

Though not a lot, the water landed on her head with a splash and seemed to do the trick. The Lagiacrus opened her eyes, shook her head to get the water off, and panted from whatever nightmare she was having. Jacob became nervous when she calmed down and looked down at him. He took a step back when she started growling and she was glaring at him. She lowered her head down to his level and it made Jacobb jump a it. But he shook his head with a small glare of his own, "Look, I was just trying to help you. You were the one having the nightmare.

"You're the one trying to cope with depression with a bunch of rocks. And for three weeks!" He gestured to the three stones on the ground. With another shake of his head, "Look, I'm sorry for your loss. I really am.

"And I realize that you have a lot of anger and sorrow in heart right now. But this isn't going to replace them. Nor is it going to help in the long run." Jacob said and moved a little closer. He carefully raised his hand and gently stroked the scales of her tail. The Lagiacrus gave a low groan to his words and turned her head away from him. Jacob wondered what she was going to do. With a growl, she twisted her body to where she wasn't coiled around the rocks and swatted them into ocean with her tail. The rocks sailed through the air before landing with three big splashes.

Jacob looked back to her when she roared in anguish before falling down on the little island. Her eyes were scrunched shut and her breathing ragged, almost as if she were crying. With a sigh, Jacob thought it best to just leave her alone for now and turned to walk back to the boat.

The next morning, Jacob woke up and moved onto the deck of the boat. Looking down, he saw the Lagiacrus still laying on the rock unmoving. Figuring that she was still greatly depressed, Jacob tried to think of something that would cheer her up. He thought something from the ocean might help with that. He moved to go and grab a weapon and planned to go swimming.

After grabbing the Dual Blades, Jacob made his way to and down the slope. If she heard him coming, she didn't show it as he quietly snuck past her. When he waded deep enough into the water, took a deep breath and dived down. The small splash seemed to cause the Lagiacrus to open her eyes and look just to see his feet disappear underneath the surface.

Below the waves, Jacob swam as deep as he did weeks ago. Coming up upon the large bed of seaweed and collection of coral, he looked for something that he thought might work. After about a minute of searching the sea floor, Jacob saw what looked like an oyster laying in the middle of some coral on an elevated sea shelf. Moving a little closer to the coral, he carefully reached his arm in to grab it. While his hand was within the coral, his feet drifted down to some seaweed that grew around the base of the shelf. The boy managed to grab it and planned to try and open it when he got back to the surface. But when he tried to swim back up to the surface, he felt something tugging on his ankle and looked down to see him caught in the seaweed. Placing the oyster back on the edge of the coral, Jacob removed one of the Dual Blades from his back and tried to swing at the vegetation to cut himself free. But because of him being in the water, his arm was moving much slower than he was wanting and his movement caused the entangled foot to pull the seaweed out of the way when he swung. Jacob swung at it again but the same results happened.

Up on the surface, the Lagiacrus raised her head up after about a few minutes and looked out into the ocean. She could tell by the scent alone that the human hadn't come back up yet. While her instincts would normally tell her not to be concerned about the human. But when she thought about their first meeting and how he's been trying to help her, either in a fight with invaders to her territory, freeing her from the human's water beast and even understanding her pain of mourning for her clutch, it made her care about him. With a small growl, the Lagiacrus turned towards the ocean and pulled herself into the water. She couldn't help but become attached to him.

Back down below, Jacob was still trying to cut himself loose and became frustrated when he only managed a few nicks. It didn't even seem to break when he tugged his foot. And when he lifted his head, his eyes grew wide when he saw that his troubles only seemed to get worse by the second. Swimming towards him, a pretty big fish with long jagged teeth was swimming right for him. And to make matters worse, his lungs were really about to burst from being underwater for so long. He removed the other Dual Blade from his back and prepared to defend himself.

The fish darted right for him and opened its jaws wide. But before the fish could touch him or Jacob swing his weapons, a shape intercepted the fish. Jacob was greatly surprised to see the Lagiacrus as she ate the fish in a single bite before looking over to him. He tried tugging his foot free of the seaweed before reaching to try and cut it again. But his head began to feel dizzy from the lack of oxygen. Lucky for him, the Lagiacrus lent her aid by swimming up to him and being careful when she bit at the seaweed keeping him bound. Then in a swift motion, the Leviathan caught the human teen on her head before making her way up to the surface.

The Lagiacrus' head burst from the water and rose up a good deal out of the water. She looked to the human as he started coughing. She rose the rest of her body out of the water and lowered her head to place him on her back. Jacob sat up and continued coughing. When he stopped and looked up to her, the Lagiacrus gave an angry sounding roar and he winced from how close it was. But it was then and there that he happened to notice the look in her eye. From how she was acting after saving him, it felt like how any mother would scold their child after they had done something that got them into trouble. Slowly standing up, Jacob told her, "I wasn't trying to make you worry.

"I was just trying to find you something to cheer you up." He said, though it felt like it wouldn't have really worked. Walking up to her neck he said, "I just couldn't bear to see you sad anymore."

He really surprised her by embracing her neck and earning a small groan from her. Jacob had his eyes closed as he tried to comfort her by saying, "You're never alone.

"I'm here for you. And I know that God's going to take care of us both." He promised. The Lagiacrus gave a small growl and he released her. She lowered her head to him and he gently stroked her snout. The Lagiacrus then raised her head and swam back to shore. While they drifted through the water, Jacob saw her glancing back at him from time to time and wondered if she was beginning to heal.

A/N: I do hope that you enjoyed these two new chapters. I was originally going to end the chapter when Jacob was a little angry with the Lagiacrus, but this last bit felt like it really belonged to me. I hope to begin the small filler chapter and next arc soon. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you all next time.
