Hello everyone! I know it's been long and I have a good explanation for that at the end of the chapter. it'll be at the end of the chapter if you care about it. i'll be getting back to my two week schedule here. I hope you all enjoy reading my story and this current chapter. I don't own RWBY or Bloodborne and they belong to their own respective studios.

Suppressed Emotions Bubbling to The Surface
Alaine stormed out of the bar, both weapons in her hands as she left and headed towards the edge of town.
She trailed just outside the town, just inside the forest that surrounded Onyx. She walked without a word and she was silent as she gazed into the forest, looking for anything she could kill.
She was frustrated, how could she allow herself to slip into vulnerability like that infront of a stranger no less. She was honestly feeling thirsty for something to kill. She needed a good fight to clear her head of these thoughts that spiraled deeper and deeper into madness! The despair she felt as she was given the time for the first time to mourn everything. Her life, her friends, family, it was all crawling around inside her head.
She felt an endless anger, one that made her itch and stand still at the slightest sound. That accursed church, damn those mad doctors! Her anger burned red hot and she could almost feel her own blood boil. The familiar feeling of frenzy took her over but she did not drink a sedative, she did not need it. She let it build up because she understood everything, her mind could handle it and she didn't go insane.
She shook her head and then moved on, coming around to the side of the town that opened up towards the mine. There was a dirt road between the town and where she guessed the mine would be. She saw nothing, not even a single beast, and that in itself was strange.
Maybe it was different here, the things called Grimm didn't just roam around like they did in Emerald Forest, still it would be foolish to presume that she was safe here.
Having walked for a while with nothing happening she noticed something that she had yet to pick up since coming here. Animal life was normal, untainted by the blood, she heard several noises but only found a deer, rabbit, or even just a squirrel there, no grim.
That was when she remembered something, the whole town of Onyx was very odd for what she had encountered thus far in this world but very familiar to her.
The whole town stood on stone, the roads were paved with a black tar looking substance and within the town limits the ground was nothing but solid grey concrete. That was not normal here, but very normal for Yharnam since it's a city that sits on the ruins of old Yharnam which sits on the pthumeru dungeons.
The way a town is built is never built without thought in mind, and it was certainly expensive to line the very ground with concrete like that, then again, from what she's seen, abundance is a staple in this world.
She remembered what that Qrow said, subterranean. Now she realized just how terrifying of a concept that really is, anytime, anywhere, you can't even trust the very ground you walk on. She thought back to her plan, it would need a lot of tweaking or just wouldn't work.
She sighed and looked at the grass below her feet. "Nothing gained, can only wait as they skulk around" she turned back to the direction of Onyx looking at the town as she planned how she would defend a town from the assault that may come from the forest and the sky. The only way she thought she could defend the city was by waiting patiently.. and being ready for when they played their hand.
Qrow was finishing his drink when a bottle fell from the shelf behind the bartender and shattered to the floor. The unlucky man just grunted in annoyed acknowledgement while the middle aged bartender raised his thick brow when he looked back at the shelf. He then went and cleaned it up with a broom and then cleaned up the alcohol with a rag.
When the man finished Qrow looked up from his drink to ask the bartender something. "Say, anything interesting happening in this town?" The man shook his head and then looked back to his bottles, specifically where the one that fell used to reside.
"No. Other than a bottle mysteriously falling off a stable shelf it's been quiet." The barman cleaned one he had gotten to replace the fallen bottle and put it up, watching it carefully as to judge if it was something to do with the shelf, maybe the bottle wasn't sitting properly and leaned there. Nope. It just sat there, nothing wrong. The man scratched his head, wondering what could have caused the bottle to fall before clearing his mind of it.
"Really? Absolutely nothing. No grim sightings, no incidents, nothing big?" The bartender shook his head and Qrow just nodded, looking at his drink. "Uh-huh." He took another sip and then the bartender sat down. There weren't many people here today, probably because it was a workday so most of the workers were at work and such.
The bartender poured himself from a different bottle, it was a bigger bottle, it was bronze in color and it was labeled as a brandy. He poured some out and when Qrow went to object the bartender smirked and shook his head. "It's for me not you."
The bartender chuckled to himself, taking a sip before sighing and looking out of the bigger window of the bar. "Well. The only thing even slightly interesting is that Onyx may not even exist in another couple of months or so." The Bartender said, Qrow looked surprised but the man just shook his head.
"Really? Why's that?" Qrow asked, doubtful in his tone. He readjusted, leaning into the conversation to show his interest while the bartender backed up with his drink in hand.
"Agh.. they think that mine up in the hills has dried up. So with no work, no town. We'll either be relocating or just dissolve unless they find more soon" The bartender spoke matter of factly but there was a tone of bitterness behind it.
"Well, let's hope you all can stay together. Moving will be hard on the kiddos if you all go to different places" Qrow finished his drink and then sat still for a moment.
The bartender smiled and then took a sip of his drink before he finished it and put the bottle away.
Qrow got up and then went outside, deciding he wanted to look around town for Alaine as well as get some fresh air.
Alaine had been wandering for a while now, and she started to hear new noises as she went deeper and deeper into the forest. The noise seemed to push the wildlife away since as she got closer she saw less and less of the critters of the forest.
She was able to start to discern the sound that she was hearing. It was sawing, specifically through wood. It reminded her of the whirligig saw. She guessed that one of her compatriots had seen a sawmill saw and decided he wanted that kind of power against the beasts.
When she approached she had to weave through a patch of tree stumps before coming to a small saw mill. She had a couple eyes on her as she approached, now she heard a different whirring noise that accompanied the saw mill. Higher pitched saws whirled to life and trees fell in the distance.
There were lots of men and some women walking through the patch of tree stumps, picking up logs, the larger ones required multiple people to hold them up and haul them over the mill.
There was a larger man staring at her, he was one of many people picking up and transporting the fallen logs. He was the first to stop what he was doing briefly and even called over to her. Alaine turned to him and then lowered her neck gaiter. "Sorry, am I intruding?" The man gave her a confused look, it must be her accent that they've never heard of at this point. She would normally ask if they've never seen a Yharnamite before but of course they haven't.
"Sorry, I am very comfortable in places like these, I was born into a workshop you see." The man nodded to her but then asked her if she could stay back and out of the way anyways, for her own safety as well as theirs.
Alaine sighed and set her weapons down. She may be a hunter but she also wanted to do something more than just walking around looking for trouble. Maybe this would help with her anger inside of her as well. She walked up and stood in front of the man, with a smile she picked up a log bigger than her body at the same time as him. He had a surprised and horrified look on his face. "I am always curious to learn another craft, do you mind if I follow your guidance?" Alaine said, her voice calm and devoid of strain.
Alaine had a knowing smirk, she knew she was being a bit of a nuisance but at the same time she really needed something to take her mind off things. Alcohol didn't work for her so maybe some labor would. She worked to hual the chopped up logs over to the mill. Then after she placed them she watched some people pull a log over to a machine where they left it on some chains that moved onto something strange to her, it was carrying the logs up and onto an odd shaped wheel that pushed them along.
She then saw them debarked and made into cants she thought the word was. Those cants were then sent further down the line using the same strange moving system, using more strange saw wheels and then finally straightened on the line and she couldn't tell what happened inside the machine but they came out the other side into boards that workers pulled out and put into a pile.
She was fascinated as an engineer and a tinkerer. How it all worked, the abundance of materials in this world seemed to help them make amazing feats of engineering and metallurgy. She could hardly still her fingers thinking about what she might find in their workshops. She continued to help pick up logs and load them into the pile at the start of this strange but very efficient system for making just boards and lumber.
It was getting later into the day, Alaine was feeling better, although she hadn't even broken a sweat or needed a break the repetitive action of picking up and placing logs was therapeutic to her racing mind. It calmed her down and allowed time to slip by and her anger to fade. She was back to normal, she checked and looked to where her weapons were placed occasionally but no one bothered with them thankfully.
Then she froze after picking up a log, she looked up towards the mine. The tall, strong gentleman she had spoken to before just happened to pass her by. "Is everything okay, miss?" Alaine. Dropped the log she had picked up and then pointed up towards the mountain. Just as she pointed, the sound of sliding dirt could be heard and there was a massive cloud of dust that came from the side of the mountain.
It descended through parts of the forest gently before settling at the base of the mountain. Some of it even came and filled the air in the field. Alaine put up the decorative neck gaiter up and over her nose to protect her lungs from the dust that had filled the air. A couple people ran from the cloud and past her, there seems to have been some kind of disruption.
No one seemed to do anything but back away from the cloud of dust. Alaine stood still, just keeping her eyes on the source before she turned back to the gentleman she had met. "Do you have any idea what that may be?" The man shook his head and dropped the log he was carrying before he began running back in the direction of the town. "Ah, I forgot to ask that man's name. Maybe if we see each other again I'll ask him."
Alaine grabbed her weapons and did as hunters should. She began strolling up towards where the dust cloud had come from. Just as she was going to start walking up the mountain about ten minutes later, she heard panting and saw someone scrambling down as fast as they could. "Are you okay sir?"
The man looked distraught. He was young, he looked like had just become of age. He had a look of fear on his face, tears in his eyes and he was drenched in sweat. His clothes were dirty with dust and soaked through at the pits. She took a closer look at his face and noticed there was a gash on his head. "No, I mean yes I'm fine. There has been a cave in! I-I don't know how to drive but I need to get help. I need to tell people in town, we need them now!"
Alaine nodded in agreement and then pointed back to the direction ot town using the mental map she had created of the place. "They already suspected something had happened. Be quick and take this." She held out some scrap cloth from her bag, not every wound needed a vial of blood. "Wrap it around your head, then have it checked in town."
Alaine hadn't gotten the whole message since she didn't understand what he meant by driving, how do you crash a carriage pulled by horses on such a lovely day? She got her answer when she passed by a machine that had hit a tree. Steam was rising from the front and it looked stuck. She couldn't even begin to understand how it worked when it was wrecked like this.
Alaine continued walking up the mountain, following this dirt road but the whole time she had a sense of unease. As she walked and with every step she took she felt as if something was about to come out of the ground. As a hunter, her body's instincts were sharpened. That instinct had saved her life more than once so she had a hard time ignoring it. She ended up staring down at the ground below her as she walked.
The more she focused the more she began to realize what was unsettling her. The very ground below her was vibrating, it was unlike anything she had ever felt before. Well actually.. the scorpions in the damned chalice dungeons had a similar feeling albeit they were just under the mud while this feeling was much more subtle and it felt deeper. It unsettled her a little bit.
She gripped her hammer tighter and fought the smile coming across her face. Stimulus and interest made her mind crawl, she could feel that beastial side of her, the one that wished to fight, kill, slaughter prey. The idea of new prey enticed her for some reason. She never knew why but when she fought something for the first time it was much less methodical than her normal fighting style. It was instinctual, reactive, and savage.
She had a job to do as a hunter here, she wasn't a lone moon scented hunter anymore. She began jogging, feeling that she should hurry up. She was jogging for another twenty minutes when she arrived at the entrance of the mine. It was grand, more like a massive cave opening rather than something humans with pickaxes chipped at. She looked around at the vehicle's, seeing a couple with massive cone shaped spikes.
As she began walking into the massive cave entrance she noticed that there were lights aflame. Or she thought they were aflame, the technology in this world seemed a generation ahead of her own and it was a pale flameless light strung along by rubber wire. So strange, she would have to do a lot of information gathering when she returned to Beacon.
What she expected from this was a massive block up. What she found was what she assumed to be where the mine went deeper. This massive open space that had been carved out led to such a smaller entrance, it was enough to fit one of those vehicles. Timber made what looked like a door frame. Dirt and rubble had come from inside the mine and it flowed out, dirt and rubble meeting gravel. She felt small vibrations through her boots.. the ground softly shook and shifted.
It was worrying her. She looked at her cannon for a moment, a big boom would either help or completely ruin this place. She set it on the floor with the barrel to the ground. she pulled out a silver flintlock pistol, elegantly engraved and glimmering like a drop of mercury. She had what she needed, if these workers came under attack from those beasts everything would be for naught and there would be a bloodbath and a new mass grave that used to be a mine.
Thank you for reading this chapter, now for my reason why I haven't been writing. I've been in recovery from a surgery and that stopped my drive for a little while. It took me a while to get the drive to finish this chapter all the way through but I want to continue and finish this story that I have made. I hope for you to enjoy my story in the future and where I take it.
ps: I can't seem to figure out how to delete the ch.8 delay
