The Next Day

The sun rose high across the Amazon Rainforest. Blu had just woken up from a much needed rest. His chest felt better and his hopes were high for today. Looking over to the other side of the hollow, Felipe slept soundly. "Felipe." He called. He snorted in his sleep, making Blu laugh quietly. "Come on Felipe. Time to get up." He called again. Felipe groaned. "Five more minutes." Blu grinned evilly. "Oh hey Roberto. Nice to see you here." Felipe's eyes widened and he jumped up, looking around. He searched the hollow for his love, only to realize that Blu had played a cruel joke on him. Blu began laughing hard. "That's cold Blu. Don't do that." Felipe said, trying not to laugh himself. He had to admit, it was kind of funny. Blu wiped a tear away from his eye. "I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. You wouldn't wake up to my calls." Felipe chuckled lightly. He got up and stretched his wings. He looked over to Blu.

"Are you ready for today?" He asked in all seriousness. Blu's expression changed from a happy expression to worried. "I guess I'm ready. I just don't know how Jewel will be able to forgive me." Felipe laid a wing on his shoulder. "She will forgive you. She loves you more than anything." Blu smiled a bit. "Thank you Felipe. Are you ready to confront Roberto?" Felipe nodded. "I'm worried as well, but I know that I'll at least clear my mind of this if I get rejected. I'll either come back with a mate or remain as nothing to him. So either way, I have nothing to lose." Blu smiled at him. "Don't think like that. You will be just fine. I'm sure if you tell him everything you told me, you'll be forgiven and maybe he will reciprocate your love." Felipe smiled at Blu and gave him a hug. "I appreciate your encouragement. Even though I don't know you all that well, you are like a good friend to me." Blu released from the hug. "I would like to hang out with you some more. Once we bring the tribes together, I hope to hang out with you again."

Blu and Felipe both felt like it was time to travel back to the Spix tribe. Felipe knew that he had to explain what his plans were to his tribe first before anything. With Blu by his side, he called the tribe for a meeting in the center of the territory. Felipe informed his tribe that he was going to make peace with the Spix tribe. At first, the tribe disagreed with his decision. After explaining what had happened with Blu, leaving out the parts of his love for Roberto, and that this would bring protection to the area, they began to agree. The Scarlets agreed with Felipe, wanting everything to go back to the way things were before. Blu smiled as the tribe cheered. Today seemed like it was going to be a great day.

After the tribe finished celebrating, Blu and Felipe both departed from the area, in the direction of the Spix Tribe. Blu was smiling the entire time. Felipe noticed and said, "Thinking of Jewel?" Blu looked over to him and nodded. "Yeah. I'm thinking of both my mate and my kids. I miss them so much. I can't wait to see them." Felipe nodded to him. "Well that's great cause we just got to the Spix Tribe." They both looked in front of them. What they saw was simply an amazing sight.

Upon their arrival, they saw the great waterfalls in front of them. The water shined with the sunlight and reflected it into the mist below, creating a rainbow across the bottom. Sea creatures were popping out of the water before splashing back down into the water. Blu smiled at the sight, his only wish was for his family to be here enjoying this amazing view. His family. He couldn't wait to see them, hold them, and love them again. "Come on Felipe. I want to see my family again." He beckoned, flying faster towards his hollow. Felipe smiled as he flew faster towards him.

Both continued flying when they heard someone calling Blu's name. They turned their heads and saw Eduardo speeding towards them. "Blu!" At first, Blu was afraid and began to fly faster away from him. Felipe flew into the trees away from Eduardo, who was still giving chase to Blu. Felipe tried to keep up and keep out of sight but lost him in some brush. He began to search the area to see if he can find him anywhere. "Blu please I need to talk to you! I'm not out to hurt you!" Eduardo called out. Blu hearing this slowed his pace and searched for him. Eduardo was on the other side of the brush, trying to find a way through. Flying down near him, Blu landed on a branch. "What do you want Eduardo? You made it perfectly clear the last time I was with you that you wanted nothing to do with me." Eduardo faced Blu's direction through the brush and said, "I know. And I am sorry. I don't know what came over me. Please, I need to talk to you." Blu sighed and pushed some of the brush aside to help Eduardo in. He stepped behind the brush and dusted himself off. Stepping back from him, Blu said, "Okay then let's talk. But I swear if you try and fight me, I will defend myself." Eduardo nodded. "I understand that you don't like me Blu, but I came here to apologize. I will not harm you." He paused for a second. "I'm sorry for how I have been treating you these last few days, I had no right to make your life miserable. You were just doing what a father would do for his family, and I should have respected that. You brought my Jewel back to me. I believed that you weren't the one for my daughter, that you couldn't protect her, but I was wrong. Jewel told me that you had saved her life, and if it wasn't for you, then she wouldn't be here right now. And I should have thanked you for that, not insulted you" Blu nodded to him with a small smile. "You're welcome Eduardo. As I told Jewel, I would do anything for my family, and I plan to do just that." Eduardo smiled at him. He then continued. "I'm happy to hear that Blu. Your family needs you. I had no right to threaten you the way I did. All I can do now is ask for your forgiveness. If you don't, I can understand that. It's your choice. I just hope that I can be the father-in-law you deserve someday." Blu smiled at him and brought his wing out. "I accept your apology Eduardo." Looking up to him, the old bird said, "Tuck that wing away Blu, and no more calling me by my name. You can call me dad from now on." He smiled as he brought his son in law into a hug. Blu smiled to himself as he hugged him back. He was glad that Eduardo saw his treatment towards him was wrong.

A few seconds passed, Blu and Eduardo released from the hug. Both were happy to be at peace with one another. Just as Blu was about to say something, he heard flapping coming towards them. Turning to the brush, a shadow of a bird appeared. "Blu? Where are you?" It called. Blu smiled. "Over here Felipe. Come on through." Blu said opening up a space for him to get through. "Felipe?" Eduardo questioned. Crawling through the hole, he looked up at Eduardo a little fearful of him. "What's he doing here?" Eduardo questioned, anger in his voice. Blu stood next to Felipe. "Well, he came here to negotiate a peace deal with you. I want you to listen to all he has to say before you judge him again." Eduardo looked at Blu confused. Blu caught on to why he was confused and said, "Felipe told me about what happened after the fires. How you treated that one scarlet family, before you blamed it on all scarlets. You had no right to do that to them. So if you wanted to push them away, you will also be pushing me away." Blu finished. Eduardo could tell that Blu was upset with how he treated them in the past, and he knew that he was to blame for it. Now, Felipe was here in front of him, offering peace between their tribes. Maybe if he had listened to them before, none of this would have happened. "Okay Blu. I trust that you know what you are doing. I will listen to what he has to say and I will see where we can go from there." Blu nodded and looked at Felipe. "Go on ahead and tell him what you told me."

Felipe began to tell Eduardo of everything that had happened in the past, what he had heard and what he saw. He left out the parts about his feelings for Roberto. Eduardo looked on as he remembered how he had pushed away any evidence that the scarlets were innocent. Felipe spoke to him for some time, trying to clear up any miss information that he may have received. After saying everything that needed to be said about the past, Felipe stood near Blu, before saying, "And that brings us to the recent events here. I never wanted to go through with the war, but I didn't have much of a choice. It wasn't until after I found Blu when I realized how far this had gone. While I was patching him up, I told him about how our tribe used to be." Blu stepped in. "I thought that if I understood how this tribe came to be, then we would at least be able to come up with a solution to our problem." Felipe nodded to him in confirmation. Eduardo looked to Blu. "So, how do we solve this? Do we go back to half of the groove goes to each tribe?" Felipe shook his head. "I feel like it is time for our tribes to be like they used to be." Eduardo's eyes widened. "You mean…" Felipe nodded. A smile began to appear on Eduardo's face. Both Blu and Felipe smiled as well. Blu asked, "Eduardo, do you think that this will work between the tribes again?" Eduardo looked to Felipe. "If this is what's best for our people, then yes. I want to recombine the tribes. That is… only if you can forgive me." Smiling Felipe said, "Apology accepted Ol' Eddy." They chuckled as they shook wings. "I'm not that old." He responded chuckling.

Blu was happy to see the two leaders get along again. Seeing the tribe as one again would be what is best for the safety of the tribes. Suddenly, there was a slight rustle in the branches close to them. All three birds looked over and saw a boa constrictor shoot out from behind the branches, heading in the direction of both Felipe and Eduardo, ready to strike. Within a split second, Blu jumped and pushed both of them away, taking their place. Eduardo and Felipe landed a foot away on their sides. They looked up and both yelled to Blu as he was wrapped in the coils of the serpent. Struggling, Blu attempted to use his claws and beak, but his attempts were in vain. His efforts were useless as he couldn't even hurt the serpent. The Boa began to squeeze him, slowly cutting off Blu's breathing. His life began to flash in front of his eyes, from the time he lived in Minnesota, to his time in Rio, to here in the Amazon. He saw the first time he met Linda when she rescued him, the fun they had together over the years. He remembered the first time he met Jewel and the amazing adventure they had. From the point of them getting captured to when he rescued Jewel from their supposed death. The day their children hatched, bringing such joy and happiness to his life. And lastly, he saw the last few days here in the Amazon. A tear dripped down his cheek as his last memory of Jewel was their break up.

Just as Blu's eyes closed, he felt the squeezing of the boa cease. It loosened around him before dropping him on the log. Weakly, Blu opened his eyes to see Felipe and Eduardo fighting off the boa. Using their talons, they swiped at the boas face, scratching his eyes. With a hiss of agony, he slithered off. Felipe and Eduardo turned towards Blu, walking up to him fast, deeply worried. Felipe said, "Blu stay with us. We will get you help." Blu groaned in pain.

The color in his eyes were dull as his beak moved slightly. Felipe leaned in. "T-tell Jewel 'cough' I'm sorry. Tell her… I love her." He spoke softly. A tear rolled down his cheek as he slipped into unconsciousness. Taking in what he said, he looked over Blu. The leaves he had put on him the night before were torn. During the struggle, he must have reopened the wound as he could see some blood leaking out. Felipe looked to Eduardo. "Where is the healer?" "I can take you to him. Follow me." Quickly, Eduardo took off from the area. Felipe grabbed hold of Blu and began to fly after Eduardo. He looked down at Blu. "Stay with me Blu. You'll be fine and you can tell Jewel yourself."

After a minute, the two birds made it to the tribes healer. They drew the attention of a few other birds as they were flying, and they flew after them. "Carlos!" Eduardo called. The hollow they landed on was quite large, with multiple injured or sick birds lying around in small nests. One bird flew down from an overhead branch. "What do you-" The bird paused as he saw the state that Blu was in. He then noticed who was holding him. "You did this didn't you?" He said pointing his wing at Felipe. It was evident that he did not like scarlet macaws. Felipe stepped back a bit before Eduardo stopped him. "He had nothing to do with this. I need you to treat him. I can't lose my son in law." Carlos looked at Eduardo. "Why should I help him? We lost our territory because of him." He said crossing his wings. Eduardo frowned at him. "He didn't lose it. It was my fault for how I acted towards him. I had no right to treat him like I did. He saved myself and Felipe from our deaths. Please, there isn't much time, I need you to help him." Carlos's eyes widened.

Within seconds, Carlos picked Blu up and places him in a nearby nest. He began to work on Blu, hoping to save the bird who saved his leader. Felipe and Eduardo stood nearby watching on. Eduardo turned towards Felipe. "Thank you for bringing him back to us. I don't think I'll be able to forgive myself for how I treated him. But having lost him, would have meant losing my daughter as well." Felipe turned towards him. "It wasn't really me who brought him back. He brought me here for more than one matter. He guided me through to this decision for our tribe. It was more like he left and came back for us." Eduardo nodded to Felipe with a smile. "I am happy to accept your offer Felipe. Our tribe should be one again. I am sorry for the way I acted back then. I should have been a better leader, towards all of the tribes birds." Just as he said that, he remembered that his daughter was still in her nest, depressed and worried sick about her husband. "Stay here Felipe. I need to go get Jewel." Just then, he shot off in the direction of his daughter's nest.

Felipe looked back over at Blu, who was still being looked at by the doctor. He walked close to them. "Is there anything I can do to help?" He said sincerely. The doctor looked at him. Even though he felt he couldn't trust him, he knew that he couldn't save Blu alone. The doctor nodded and started to give him orders, to which Felipe followed.

'How will Jewel react to her love being injured? Find out in the next Chapter of Lost Love.'
