The road to freedom

Disclaimer: This is starting to get incredibly annoying because it's in every fanfic there is. So, I will only say it once. Of course I do not own anything from the HP world. I also do not write to make money or become famous. I do it just to develop my writing and for fun because I love reading fanfictions and the HP books... especially PoA is my favorite of all.

Warning: This story will contain Dumbledore, Hermione and Weasley bashing. It's also a fem Harry story. If you don't like it, don't read!

Chapter 1: Friends and secret plans

Emily sat in an armchair in front of the stove in Gryffindor's common room. She flipped absently in her transfiguration book while she waited for her friends to come down. Soon Hermione came down. She saw Emily and walked over to her.

"Good morning, Emily. You're up early today." She said.

"Oh, good morning to you too Hermione. Yes, I woke up early today, could not fall asleep again for some reason." She replied and pretended to look neutral.

"Did you have a nightmare or was it your scar?" She asked.

"No, just could not fall asleep again. Don't worry, Hermione." She said and forced A smile.

"Okay then, but tell me if it gets worse. Sleep is very important, especially to be able to concentrate which we all have to do this year because we are taking our OWLS this year." She lectured.

Emily nodded. How do I survive when I can not even wake up when I want without even fake friends to lie in? Thought emily. Then she grinned to herself.

OoOoOo

Emily, Ron and Hermione sat in the great hall and ate breakfast. Although Emily tried to avoid looking at Ron when he ate with his mouth open. She noticed that Hermione frowned but said nothing.

"So what do we have first?" Ron asked with his mouth full of toast.

"Defense." Hermione answered at once. Ron looked gloomy and mumbled something about stupid toads. A few months ago, Hermione had asked Emily if she could think of teaching defense to those who wanted to learn. But Emily had refused and said that it was too risky for Umbridge to find out and that there was no good place to train on defense. Emily, of course, knew about the room of requirement at the time because Dobby had secretly told her about it when she had asked him if he knew of any place where one could meet people in secret without being discovered. But she did not intend to tell Hermione and Ron. 'So they do not run to Dumbledore about it, or use it to their advantage,' she thought maliciously. She wondered if the old man had instructed them to try to start a defense group. Well, Emily thought to herself. If that was his plan, it would have failed now. She smiled inwardly, thought about how many future plans would probably fall apart and when Dumbledore would realize it. Her smile widened as she drank her pumpkin juice. She looked up at her... friends and saw that they were still eating. She got up quickly.

"I have to use the bathroom." She said. "You do not have to wait for me." She smiled falsely.

Hermione looked like she was going to say something and Ron was too busy stuffing sausages in his mouth. Emily did not pretend to notice Hermione's protesting face and hurried out of the great hall.

OoOoOo

Emily sighed lightly as she exited the great hall. She saw that she had twenty minutes left until the defense lesson with Umbridge began. She quickly walked down the corridor on the seventh floor, took out her invisibility cloak and checked that no one was in the corridor before draping the cloak over herself and became completely invisible. She quickly walked past the wall three times and thought.

'I need a comfortable and cozy place that no one can find.' just as the door opened, she saw the person she just wanted to see. She saw him sneaking down the corridor and decided to have some fun.

She quickly cast a silence spell on herself and quickly ran towards him. She stopped right behind him, stretched out her hand and caressed his silky smooth hair. He looked surprised and his eyes widened. Emily could not help but let out a giggle. He stretched out his hand and managed to grab the invisibility cloak.

"much better." he said and grinned,

"I'm not a fan of talking to air."

Emily giggled again.

They quickly went into the room of requirement before anyone had time to see them.

The room had a soft dark green sofa with a round table in front. the walls were light green and in the middle of the table was a scented candle that smelled of strawberry. As Emily stood admired the room, she felt a pair of familiar arms around her and then she landed on the soft sofa. Emily kissed him and took the marauder map out of his pocket.

"What are you going to do?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh, just to give the service back to..."

"You've found the spell," he interrupted excitedly.

She smiled wickedly.

OoOoOo

At the Gryffindor table in the great hall, Ron and Hermione sat and talked softly to each other with vengeful smiles on their lips.

"...mum said she will start sending the love potion to Potter next week." said Ron with jam running downhis chin. He leaned closer to whisper. "Don't worry, Hermione. Mum will not just send that in a bottle. She will put the potion in her usual syrup pies that she usually bakes. In addition, all three of us will get the same amount and the same kind of pastries so she does not suspect anything. And mum will write that we should take care of ourselves and not get into trouble in her letter. That way, Umbridge or her dirty inquisitor group will not suspect anything of it." he concluded with a grin. Hermione nodded.

"I know, Ron, I was just a little worried there." Hermione gave a smile. "But not anymore." Ron patted her on the shoulder.

"Like I said, you do not have to worry at all. It's not like her would suspect we're doing anything.

Hermione nodded again. Both got up and started walking towards the defense classroom when they saw Professor Mcgonagall go against them.

OoOoOo

Back in the room of requirement Had they heard everything through the spell that Emily had found. By activating the map, point with the wand at who you want to listen to and say "aures duplices", that way you could eavesdrop on anyone. Emily glanced at him next to her on the sofa. he was almost... white in the face of rage even when he tried to suppress it. She had never seen him so… angry before.

She took his hand and squeezed it gently.

He began to calm down a little. "How dare they do this!" he hissed. She wrapped her arms around him.

"Do not worry, I have a perfect plan for it." she said and smiled broadly at him.

"It feels like you've been planning for several years with every plan you have." he said.

"Oh, yes I love to plan all this in secret and give my so-called friends a false sense of security." she said with a sly laugh.

He grinned.

"Cunning like a snake, huh?"

She laughed.

"We should go." said Emily reluctantly.

He nodded gloomily.

"Yes..." but he was interrupted by Emily who wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.

He kissed her and neither of them wanted to let go of each other just then, but they had to.

They let go of each other and walked towards the door. But before any of them went out, he turned around and kissed her cheek. Her heart beat fast and the fluttering in her stomach continued. And she loved it.

OoOoOo

When Emily entered the defense classroom after made sure she did not looked weird to be suspected of anything by a certain observant friend, she saw to her relief that Ron and Hermione had not arrived yet.

Most of the students had come and so had Umbridge. She sat as usual at the front with her toad-like smile in place.

Emily sat down and saw that there was two minutes left until the lesson began.

Someone sat down in the chair next to her. She looked up and saw Neville.

"Hi, Neville." greeted Emily with a smile.

"Hi Emily." he said kindly. "How have you been?"

"Oh, as good as you can be. Thank you for sat here by the way." she said and lowered her voice.

"I'll avoid them for a while anyway." she added gratefully.

"Oh, that's the least I could do for the most caring friend I have," he replied. "And I have not even mentioned how many times you have saved me in potions." he laughed.

"Do not mention it, Neville, my friend." she replied dismissively and thought that after all there are true friends and that she still has some on her side. Emily's thoughts were interrupted by Umbridge who stood up and cleared her throat with his false cough.

"Hem, hem." she coughed in that annoying way so Emily just wanted to silencio her forever.

"Good morning, class." She greeted with her sickly sweet voice.

"Good morning, Professor Umbridge." answered everyone including Emily, although she hid her contempt better than some.

Her mouth widened to a complacent smile.

"Today we are going to..." But she was interrupted by the door opened and Ron and Hermione entered. Umbridge's happy smile disappeared and was replaced by a fake sweet smile.

"Miss Granger and Mr Weasley, may I ask why you're late to the lesson?" she asked with her falsely sweet smile still in place.

Emily saw that Hermione blushed at being questioned in front of everyone and suppressed a grin. "Professor, we had a meeting with the Headmaster." Hermione said quickly, took a parchment note out of her pocket and handed it to Umbridge who inspected it with her protruding toad-like eyes.

The whole class' attention was on either Hermione or Umbridge.

Some, like Parvati and Lavender whispered together and stared eagerly as if they were expecting some kind of drama show.

"Hem, hemm." coughed Umbridge again and everyone fell silent.

"Mr. Weasley and Miss Granger, sit down and stay after class." she said sweetly. "Now that everyone is in place, let's continue reading. Today we begin to read Chapter 17 on the page 114, Defense terms and important concepts. Down with the wands and no talk please."

Emily took out her copy of Defensive magical theory which she had enchanted to look like everyone else while it actually was Advanced Defense by Evelyn Williams. Emily turned to Neville and they shared a grin. She had showed him how to do the same with his book. He agreed with her that they really needed to train and hone their defenses, especially now that Voldemort was back. Neville had actually been one of the few who believed her about Voldemort's return. But she also suspected that Neville wanted to be prepared to fight against his followers as well. Against those who deprived him of his parents. Because even though Lestranges was in Azkaban at the time, it was only a matter of time before Voldemort would break them out. Well, it only remains to be seen how the dear ministry would react. she thought. In any case, Fudge could not keep it from the Prophet. Emily just hoped to be there and see Umbridge's face. At least she would have a good laugh.

AN: So... I honestly did not know how to end the chapter from the beginning. I just kept writing and it turned out the way it did. The spell Aures duplices is just made up by me and means double ears in Latin. By the way, I do not have a Beta-reader yet. But if anyone wants to Beta-read this story, or can recommend a good Beta-reader, send a PM.

In the next chapter:

Emily gets mail and is forced to start her plan. Some characters will be presented. And last but not least, a big thing will happen and maybe there will be a new decree from Umbridge. ;) Now you got a little teaser of what comes in the next chapter. I was also going to try to deviate a lot from Canon, (NOT because I do not like the books) but it would be quite boring if you continued as it actually does. Suggestions and reviews are always welcome. :)
