"Darling it's time to get up. We have to leave soon." He nudge Kim trying to wake her knowing she was exhausted from the day before. "Hmm. What time is it?" She mumbled snuggling closer. "It's 5am. Our flight leaves at 8." He kissed her head trying to wake her but he knew it was going to take more. "Alright I will go get you something to eat to wake you up more." He tried to get up. "No don't leave me." She cried out. Tears soaking through his shirt. It was then he realized she wasn't really awake. "Kim darling. I'm not leaving you. But I need you to wake up. Open your eyes darling. Look at me." He urged trying to bring her out of her nightmare. "No! Please don't leave me." She cried harder. He had no idea what to do to wake her. He had never experienced this before. "Kim. Listen to me. It's Adam, I'm not leaving you. But I need you to wake up so we can fly home and see the kids. Wake up please." He was so worried at this point.

Nothing seemed to click in her mind. She was trapped in her own head. He rolled them slightly so she was a bit further away. He could see the streaks of tears on her cheeks. He started to wipe the tears away before placing kisses on her cheeks. He then started to alternate kissing her lips, nose and eye lids. The tears started to dry so he moved to her neck, his eyes open the whole time watching her face. The nightmare seemed to be over but she wasn't awake just yet. He hated to tease her but he wasn't sure what else to do at this point. He lifted her shirt giving him access to her breasts. He licked over her right breast before opening his mouth to take the mound inside his mouth. He sucked her softly feeling her starting to wake now. He heard her moan a bit before whimpering. "Adam baby. Why are you up so early?" She asked placing her hand on his head.

"Trying to wake you. But you seemed to be in a nightmare. I tried several things but this was the only thing that actually woke you." He answered his head resting on her breast. "But why so early?" Kim whined missing his lips on her skin. "We have a flight to catch." He watched her face turn to confused. "You didn't think I was going to let them continue to abuse you did you? Cause that's not happening. If you can't see him then there is nothing more you can do here. We can go home, see the kids and come back if your mom changes her mind. But for now let's go home where the love for you is shown loud and clear." He really hoped he didn't over step on this one. "I get where you are coming from. It's just hard. They are my family. But I do get it." She sighed heavily. "You should really finish what you started." She smirked at him. "Oh absolutely! Anything for you!"

Adam resumes his previous mission of loving Kim's body. But his attention was focused solely on her breasts for the time being. They both enjoyed it and he was happy to indulge her in something that brought her so much pleasure. Anytime they were intimate he made sure to always put her needs first as they had never been satisfied in the past. It's what a real man should do. He could hear her moans becoming more frequent. And he could feel the of her hand hand holding his head in place. He smiled against her skin before switching to her left breast. He always gave them equal love and attention. Once they were both loved up on he moved south to core. He took his time kissing all over her core before making one long swipe with his tongue collecting all the moisture.

"God baby!" She groaned bucking her hips. "Oh I know but not yet." He laughed smugly before spreading her wider and diving in. His tongue going right inside her. He made sure to curl his tongue on the way out each time to add extra friction. Kim groaned with pleasure trying to not be too loud and waking the neighbors. He knew exactly what to do to drive her crazy. Moving his fingers to her clit to play as he continued to thrust his tongue. He body damn near left the bed when he added his fingers to her clit. He removed himself allowing her to settle before holding her hips tight and returning to her core. "God damn baby!" Kim groaned biting her hand to muffle her moans. He said nothing just worked her faster. Knowing she was almost there. The faster he worked the quicker the moans. He smiled as her body started to tremble. He added his fingers once more giving her the release she needed. Her whole body shaking as the orgasm shot through her body. It was intense but felt amazing.

As her body relaxed again she noticed Adam watching her from his perch on her chest. "Better?" He asked looking pretty pleased with himself. "Much. What about you?" She asked unsure if she needed to return the favor. "Well I would love that but we need to get showering. So how about tonight you make it up to me in your bed or in your shower." He winked pulling her from the bed and moving her tired body to the shower. They started the shower getting in as soon as the water turned warm. "I'm sorry you got dragged into my family drama. I'm horrified how they acted yesterday." Kim spoke as they washed. "Oh please. You met my dad. I honestly think he's worse in some ways. And you didn't drag me into anything. I'm came here on my own free will. I wanted to be here. I wanted to support you. And quite frankly you needed it." He wanted nothin* to do with this conversation. She had nothing to apologize for.

After they got ready they headed out to the car to get a quick breakfast before heading to the local airport. Kim locked the car leaving it in short term parking for Michael to get later. "Let's get home to the kids darling. We will be back." He leaded her towards their gate "I know. I just wished I could have done more. But it really seemed like my mother wasn't listening. Like she is dragging her feet. Not accepting what's really happening. Just frustrated by the whole thing." Kim shrugged as they sat in front of their gate. "I get that I really do. And I agree with you completely. She didn't seem to get the urgency around the situation. And because she thinks she doesn't need therapy she doesn't see the need to force him into it. But just from what I saw and heard he really does need it." He looked down for a moment before speaking again. "And I think you do too. Just to help you deal with all this. I think it would be healthy for you." He watched her nod. She was listening to him.

They waited in silence for their flight to start boarding Kim mulling over Adams words about therapy. It wasn't a bad idea but she still hated the thought of it. Adam was praying he hadn't stepped over the line by suggesting therapy. It was like she knew what he was thinking because she reached out her hand waiting for him to take a hold. "I hate the idea truly but I will think about it. I promise you that. I just hate to admit I need help, you of all people should know that. But lord knows I don't want to end up sick again or like my dad." Kim stared off as she spoke. It was too hard to admit it and she knew not looking at him would make it easier. "Sounds like a plan. But remember just because you ask for help doesn't mean you are less of a bad ass. It just means you value your mental health and well being." He squeezed her hand silently letting her know he was there to support her no matter what. She nodded along but still hated the thought.

"Time to board. You can think about it in the plane." He helped her up and led her to the gate knowing she was not 100% there, lost in her thoughts. "Yeah let's get home and see my babies." It was the only thing keeping her moving at that point. "Absolutely! They are going to be stoked to see you home so soon." His hand was placed firmly on her back as they waited to board the plane. He was afraid if he let go she would run and not leave this god forsaken hell hole. He never wanted to return but would for her if she was allowed to see her dad again. Their tickets were scanned as they boarded. They walked straight to their seats which due to frequent flyer miles they had been upgraded to guest class for free. Kim had no luggage having left all her dirty clothes in her old car sat right away and closed her eyes. She knew she wouldn't sleep but at least she could rest.

Adam watched as she buckled her seat belt and closed her eyes. He knew she was still in deep turmoil over the events of the last few days. But he also knew sooner or later she was going to rage. She's sad now, maybe even numb but the rage was bubbling beneath the surface. It was only a matter of time before she exploded all over the closest person. Probably him. And he knew it would probably hurt but he would take it knowing she wouldn't mean it. As they waited for take off Adam answered messages from the team asking about Kim and even texted April letting her know they were coming home today. He knew Kim would put on a brave face in front of everyone but not him. He saw it first hand and knew what was said. She didn't need to hide anything from him. He was actually happy about that. He didn't want her to hide anything from him. And this felt like it was something she would try to hide. The sigma surrounding it always made people uncomfortable talking about it. So he knew she would clam up at work. Which to be honest was both good for her but bad at the same time. It was a fine line she would be walking.

She was unaware that she was being watched by Adam as they waited to take off. Her mind still racing, swirling, spinning the from the day before. She wished things were different but right now this was the hand she was dealt. She would fight it just everything else in life. She was pulled from her thoughts when Adam waved her AirPods in front of her face. He knew she needed them to fly. They opened her ears just right so they always decompressed on decent unlike without them. Once he saw they were secure he handed her a donut they had gotten at breakfast. Her eyes lit up right away. She ate it happily, looking like a small child getting a treat. They felt the plane starting to move. Kim braced herself for take off. She hated to fly but it had to be done. As they took off Adam held her hand letting her feel the support he was giving her. Once they reached the appropriate altitude Kim searched for something to listen to while Adam watched the tv screen in front of him. They both got something to eat and drink as it was included in the upgrade and they just tried to relax before getting home to Chicago.

Less than two hours later they had landed safely. Adam grabbed his carryon bag and they exited the plane. As they both turned their phones back on they noticed a text from their boss with an address. "Damn it! Let's get this over with!" Kim groaned as they headed to the cars. They followed one another to the crime scene seeing lots of cops, lots of trying to see what's going on and an ambo. "You ready?" He asked looking over at her. "Yeah I don't have a choice." Kim shrugged as they walked closer. "Hey guys thanks for coming. It's a weird one." Voight led them inside the home. "What do we have?" Kim asked looking around seeing the body on the dining room table. "Looks like she was a drug mule. Not sure why they killed her. But she suffered. They glued all her openings shut, she suffocated to death. That all before he cut her open to take the drugs. Seriously doesn't make sense at all." Voight showed them the body to catch them up. "Well normally when they glue someone shut it's to punish them for turning them down. Never heard of it with a drug mule. That makes no sense. Unless she wanted out?" Kim was at a loss and Adam looked horrified at the body before them.

"Alright let's continue searching the scene and then looking into the victim." Voight ordered as they all broke and went to work. The team split up into teams searching each room. "You good girl?" Kevin asked as he saw her searching the bedroom. "Um yeah, sure. Just want to get home to see my kids." She shrugged not wanting to talk about it. "Hey I'm here if you want to talk about it." He squeezed her shoulder gently. "Thanks. I do appreciate it. Just not ready to talk." Kim continued to search as they spoke. "Finding anything?" Kim asked in response. "Not really. Just lots of crappy souvenirs from different countries south of the border." He watched her eyes narrow. "That would make sense with being a mule. Maybe she used a travel visa and brought these back as proof?" She suggested. "Maybe let's bag them." Kevin took them as evidence before they left the room.

"Boss! We found these. Possible locations of other places the victim has been to smuggle drugs into the country." Kevin held up the bag. "Great run with it." Voight sent them back to the district. "Kid you find anything yet?" Al asked watching Adam search the living room. "Not much. Just a few receipts from traveling. No plane tickets so she probably used her phone for that. You find anything?" He asked holding up the receipts. "Found an old fashion day planner. Will have to cross reference it with her life and see what pops." They left shortly after leaving Erin, Jay and Voight to finish up.

Adam and Al arrive back at the district to find Kim and Kevin hard at work building a time line of the victims travel outside the country. Adam headed to the break room to get a coffee and grabbed a tea for Kim. He knew she would need it but he also wanted to check in with her. "How you holding up?" He asked placed the tea next to her. "Well okay I guess. This case is screwed up for sure. So it's a nice distraction." She looked to see the drink. "Thanks for this." She took a sip letting it calm her slightly. "Of course. Got to keep you grounded and out of your head. You won't do it for yourself so I will." He nodded at her knowingly before headed to his desk trying to figure out where his evidence fit into the timeline before him.

Mouse had even run in to provide flight information coinciding with the different countries and a few more. He even found out who bought the tickets and if they had bought additional tickets as well. It gave them a better idea of who they were looking for. Kim and Adam were so engrossed they never noticed the team returning. It was only Voight saying her name that brought them out of their work. "Sorry sir? What?" Kim shook her head. "It's okay. You were deep in your work. Just letting you all know you did a great job on the time line. Keep it up." The team returned to work processing the evidence trying to figure out why they killed her.

"Guys the ME called. Our victim was pregnant. That's probably why they killed her. If she was a good mother she wouldn't want to risk being a mule anymore. They would lose their supply chain. We need proof though but it's a solid lead!" Erin jumped up to get Voight before returning to work. The team worked for hours scouring emails, social media and text messages before they had a suspect. As they headed out to arrest the suspect Kim froze. Adam held up to see what was wrong. "I can't do this, can I? I'm all over the place emotionally. They killed a women and her unborn baby." She was literally shaking. "You can do this and you should. You are badass Kim. You were SVU for Christ sake. This is literally all you ever did. Let's finish what we started, together!" His hands rested on her shoulders while looking straight into her eyes. "Yeah your right. Let's do this." Kim nodded grabbing her gear to head out.

They all headed out with vests on and weapons fully loaded. They knew this location was listed as having several known drug associates there so they needed to be prepared for anything. They pulled up in silence not wanting to give the perp any warning. It was still very light outside as it was summer so they had to be quiet as they surrounded the home. Kim, Adam and Kevin were in the back in case they ran and the rest would go in through the front. As expected they had two runners. One Kevin took down without even flinching the other decked Adam and took off. Kim and Adam running after him as quickly as they could. As they gave chase they called in for back up and updated the team on their location. The perp was fast but not bright. Unfortunately for him running into a dead end.

He wasn't giving up without a fight though. "Drop your weapon! It's not worth it. Just drop the gun and we can walk out of here!" Adam yelled calmly trying to defuse the situation. "Yeah right! I drop my weapon you will shoot me!" The man was very distrusting of cops. "Look man I'm wearing a camera. If I shoot you they will see all of this. Why would I do that? So far your only crime was being in possession of coke and running from the cops. We can drop the assault charge if you drop your weapon." Kim yelled hoping to end this peacefully. "Please! You a bitch white cop! You know you wanna shoot me!" He yelled back getting more riled by the second. "Actually I don't. It's too much paperwork and I would rather be with my kids. So don't be stupid and put the gun down." Kim yelled one finally time as the team came up behind them. The guy just laughed at her pulling his weapon and pointing right at her.

She didn't even know who pulled the trigger first him or one of her team mates all she knew was Adam was pushing her down and taking the bullet that was meant for her. She screamed when she hit the ground pulling Adam to her. "Adam baby! Can you hear me?" She started to pat down his body as part of the team surrounded them. To their relief he only groaned in pain before opening his eyes. He nodded his head that he could hear her. "Okay Good we are going to remove your vest. Someone call for two Ambos please." Kim gently removed Adams vest finding the bullet was lodged right over his ribs. "Okay it didn't go through but it hit your ribs. I'm gonna move your shirt and see if you broke anything Okay?" As he nodded she ran her fingers over his ribs feeling a small crack right where the bullet had been. He was hissing in pain. "I know. It feels like you broke one. You have to get it checked out to make sure it's not impacting your lung." She watched him nod as she pulled his shirt back down and helped him to sit up.

"Damn that hurts darling! Nice try though. Guess he didn't want jail time. Suicide by cop I guess." Adam rested against her as the paramedics arrived to take Adam and the deceased to Chicago Med. "Kim. They need to interview you." Voight stopped her before she left. "Nope it's all right here. I learned a long time ago, wear body cameras. And I didn't take the shot. Sorry but I have to go." She handed him the camera and jumped inside with Adam as they headed off. They settled into silence as the paramedics worked on Adam getting his vitals and starting a line for fluids. He had taken a bullet for her today, he saved her life. It was crazy to think about as they rode in silence. As they arrived Kim walked beside Adam till she could go no further. She watched from the door way as they examined him and took blood for the reports. He looked in pain and annoyed but took it like a champ.

One of the perks of being a cop was you never really waited long in the hospital so the portable X-ray was brought in showing his broken rib. Thankfully confirming it didn't in fact puncture the lung. He was given a script for pain meds, he wrapped up in an ace bandage and told he was on desk duty for at least two weeks. He almost groaned about it but he saw tears in Kim's eyes and stopped dead in his tracks. "Kim what's wrong?" He had no idea why she just started to cry. "You took a bullet for me. You saved my life. You could have died!" The emotions just poured out of her. He literally smiled pulling her into his embrace. "And I would do it again tomorrow. Kim, you know I love you. And I love your kids. I would do anything to get you home to them. And home to me." He wiped her tears before kissing her passionately. They were unfortunately interrupted by a throat clearing sound. They both pulled away blushing and laughing seeing Jay and Kevin there.

"Sorry for that!" Kim buried her face in his chest trying to hide her red face. "It's all good. We figured you needed a ride back to the district. So since you ain't dying let's go!" Kevin laughed as Adam tried to look offended. "Alright let's go. Hey ah who took the shot?" He asked looking between Jay and Kevin. "Erin took it. She had the clear shot where you two wouldn't get hit." Jay confirmed what they needed to know. "I would say let's buy her a drink but she's pregnant. And should probably be on desk duty with you!" Kim laughed knowing they all hated desk duty. "Yeah she starts tomorrow too. Voight said it was too close of a call today inside the house too so she's done. They are gonna bring up someone to help out for a bit." Jay knew it would cause issues but it was the job and the life they chose. "That doesn't sound fun. But let's go." Kim walked ahead of the guys carrying her vest as she went.

"She break down?" Kevin whispered so only the boys could hear. "Yup. Not too bad though. She's tough. She just needs time and therapy. Which she agreed to look into." They all nodded watching her walk ahead. "She's probably the strongest person I know next to Erin. Never bet against them, you will always lose!" Jay joked but they all agreed. They headed to the car wanting to head to the district and finish the day. "Who's ready to finish this case and head home?" Kevin asked knowing they were all ready for the day to end. "I'm so over this day. I'm ready to sleep again." Kim had already closed her eyes and rested her head on the back of the seat. "I'm sure. You guys were up early. Hopefully we just have paperwork left." Jay answered seeing the couple both resting their eyes.

"Kim we are back at the district." Adam nudged her waking her. "Sorry. Guess I dozed off." She shrugged sheepishly. "It's all good. Let's head in. Erin said the temporary detective is coming to introduce herself." Jay sighed knowing it was dicey bringing someone new in. "Oh yeah. Joy oh joy." Kim stated sarcastically. "I hear ya darling!" Adam led her inside. They headed into the bullpen getting busy finish the paperwork that waited for them. It was close to an hour later when the gate opened once more. They all stared at the stair case waiting to see who showed up. They were surprised to see a tallish, thin, blonde female detective. "Hey I'm detective Upton, Hailey." She introduced.

"Oh I know you." Kim got up walking towards her. "You're the detective that calls me the perv police." Kim spoke hearing the gasps behind her. "Um you heard that? Well it's true." Upton tried to defend herself. "Well let me make this clear for you. Special Victims Unit is not the perv police, it's not the sex police, it's not the kink police, it's not the kiddie diddler police, or any other bullshit you come up with. It's hard as hell! One of the toughest units to be in. You really need to show some damn respect." Kim huffed off to the break room. "I agree with Detective Burgess completely. If you can't respect the other units you can't work here. And just so your aware once Detective Lindsey is back from maternity leave you will be going back to homicide. Now introduce yourself and then you can all head home." Voight barked as he over heard the fight.

Adam didn't bother introducing himself. He walked straight to the break room to take care of Kim. "You doing okay in here?" He asked seeing her staring out the window. "Sure. Not the first time I've heard that crap. Just never had to work with one of them. People think what we did, what we do is a joke. Listening to someone recount their sexual assault over and over. It's brutal for all parties but also cruel. And it's the basis of making a case. Listening to a child describe how daddy stuck his thing inside her making her hurt, kills you inside. Nothing makes that pain go away. Having a teenager tell you how they were beaten into submission and then sold as a sex slave makes you want to hurt everyone around you. I'm sorry but it's the toughest jobs as a cop. Most don't last 1 year, let alone 5. And I probably would have made another 5 if I hadn't moved here. Where they don't have SVU by the way. She wouldn't last a week!" Kim never turned around as she spoke.

"God Kim I can't even imagine the things you have seen. What you've heard. You literally are one of the strongest people I know. How you still see the world with such kindness is insane to me but I'm proud of you. And we all support you. I'm here if you ever want to talk about it. I may get sick hearing it but I will support you if you want to talk about it. Let's grab our stuff and head home to the kids. I'm sure they would love to see you." Adam wrapped his arms around her from behind. Encasing her, protecting her. "Yeah let's go home. And Adam, thank you." Kim whispered softly. They left the break room and said good bye to all the colleagues, except for Upton and then proceeded to leave the building. His hand never leaving the small of her back.

Neither knowing what lay ahead of them but ready to face it. Ready to fight each day, ready to stand strong together.
