People were screaming and fleeing in terror as Earth grew more of his carnivorous plants.
Any time someone tried to throw trash on the ground, the plants would throw out a long-growing branch or stem and grab them or spit sticky gunk made from melted garbage they absorbed from the sewage Water was spreading.
Except, Water kept finding that her power was not working as well as Earth's.
"I will discover the menace who drained this waste into the lake if it's the last thing I do!" Water threatened.
She started to make the ground shake with raw sewage bursting from the cracks like a geyser. Except, they did not burst as strongly as she wanted. On the contrary, parts of her armor started to vanish.
"What's happening?" Water wondered. And for a moment, Caroline was aware of what was happening out of Mariverde's control. "What am I doing?!"
It was then that Mariverde began to notice something was wrong. Her mariclava's grip was weaker on Caroline than it was on her male victims.
"What is this?" Mariverde growled. "My mariclava is losing its grip!"
Caroline, however, held her head as she tried to break herself out of the trance.
"Someone, help me!" Caroline cried, as the mariclava started to tighten its magical grip on her again. "No! Stop!"
And Caroline was turned back into the villain Water. Luckily for her, someone caught that on their phone and posted it on the holo-net just as Water took over Caroline again.
Fortunately, Goldie quickly saw the post and saw Caroline was trying to escape, but the pollution was still spreading, and it wasn't much better on Coruscant.
"How are we gonna fix this problem?"
"Let's see if my mom has any butterlfies that can help." Goldie said. "She has lots of them. Something's gotta work to un-clavatize these guys and clean this mess up."
Lamenta and Omega stayed with Myra while Gabby and Goldie returned to the palace to look for Mariposa. But, Gabby met her friend in a panic.
"We've got another problem," said Gabby, holding an empty blue flower pot. "Baby Blue is gone!"
Baby Blue was a cute little plant Anakin grew just for Gabby. She'd been wanting a real pet for a while, but Padme wasn't convinced she was ready yet. So, he grew a special magical munching plant that Gabby could take care of like a pet. And her parents told her of she could care for it, they would see about letting her and the other kids get a pet.
And Gabby named the plant Baby Blue, in part because that was the color of his pot, but also because he liked blueberries, and Gabby talked to and cared for him like he was her baby.
"You don't think Mariverde clavatized Baby Blue, do you?" Goldie asked her mom.
"Mariverde can clavatize objects as well as living things." Mariposa shrugged. "I don't imagine plants would be an exception."
"Mommy, do you have any butterflies that could help us?" Goldie said. "Master Mundi has been clavatized too."
"The air all over Coruscant is becoming really polluted. No one can breathe outside." Gabby explained.
"I may have just the ones for you, but I'm afraid they alone won't be enough to fix the damage completely.
Mariposa rubbed her hands together and summoned two butterflies to her hands.
"Gabriella Amidala-Jinn-Skywalker, Goldie Heartwood."
Mariposa held out her hands, which each held a bluewing butterfly on it.
"I grant each of you this, the power of the Bluewing. It grants the power of purification. Simply say, 'clear the' and then the name of that which you wish to clean and clear, and give the butterfly a kiss. Once your quest is complete, you will release the butterflies by saying 'change complete.' Do you both accept these powers for the greater good?"
The girls looked at each other and then at Mariposa.
"We do."
And so, Mariverde gave the girls the butterflies, and they turned into rings.
"I'll go help Comedia, you help your aunt and uncle." said Goldie to Gabby.
"You'll both need more help than that." Mariposa said. "I will contact everyone I can. We need a way out of this palace if we are to have any hope of helping anyone at this end of the mariclava situation."
Somewhere in the city, a human man and his three children were watering the plants in their greenhouse. Well, the two younger ones were helping; the oldest one was mostly munching on a bag of chips, when one of the other kids noticed something odd in one of the planters.
"Hey, Dad. What kind of plant is this?"
The father came to see what his son was talking about, and saw an odd little plant that looked like one from Little Shop of Horrors.
"Huh, that's odd. I don't remember getting this plant."
"Maybe it's some kind of new wild flower that grows out of nowhere," said the oldest child, spilling some crumbs into the dirt.
"Kyra! Watch it with that trash!" said the father, taking the bag, only for the plant to snap at the bag and swallow it whole like it was a tasty snack.
To the family's great surprise, the plant suddenly grew a little bigger, and a bunch of vines started popping out of nowhere, reaching into the compost bin and a trash can. And before they knew it, even more of those plants were growing, all of them consuming garbage and getting bigger and bigger.
The same thing started happening all over town!
Everywhere Earth went, he grew more of those plants, and made them trick people into feeding them garbage, which made them grow even bigger, and they started spitting out this awful, smelly, sticky gunk.
Earth laughed at the people's expense as they fled in terror of his giant monster plants. Every florist, greenhouse worker, and park ranger fled in terror as all the plants became giant monsters that spread even more pollution, making the air difficult to breathe, and turning the land less livable. And the sewage leaking everywhere only gave them more to feed on!
They may offer you fortune and fame
Love and money and instant acclaim
But whatever they offer you, don't feed the plants
They may offer you lots of cheap thrills
Fancy discos in Beverly Hills
But whatever they offer you, don't feed the plants
Look out, here comes Baby Blue
Look out, here I come for you
Here I come for you
Here I come for you
Here I come for you
Anakin held his lightsaber high and kept all plants under his control.
"No one is spared until the ones who dared endanger my children are eliminated like the real garbage they are!"
Hold your hat and hang onto your soul
Something's coming to eat the world whole
If we fight it, we've still got a chance
But whatever they offer you
Though they're slopping the trough for you
Please, whatever they offer you
Don't feed the plants
Don't feed the plants
Even the plants were laughing at everyone's expense as they taunted whoever they trapped or attacked, and Anakin continued to spread more and more of those plants by the second.
Carmine and Kara each donned a breathing mask, as did Harmony and Sapphire. As you can imagine, none of them were happy about what was going on.
Harmony just barely managed to dodge a plant that nearly chomped her!
"Do you see Anakin or Caroline anywhere?" Kara said.
"Not yet." Carmine said, looking around, and then he looked and saw something. "Wait! I think I see who else was clavatized!"
Carmine motioned to where he saw an armored soldier in green armor. Kara and her brother looked to see the soldier igniting a lightsaber and using it to create holes in the ground to allow more sewage to hit the plants' roots, and he ordered them to keep going.
"Feast, my plants!" Earth called. "Show these polluters nature will fight back!"
Unfortunately, the lightsaber alone was enough for the Jinn siblings to know who it was.
"Mariverde got to Anakin!" the humans and horses exclaimed in unison.
"Anakin must've gotten stressed enough after what happened at the lake for Mariverde to target him."
"The mariclava must be in his lightsaber," said Kara. "We have to save our brother."
But then Sapphire saw all the plants gobbling up everything in sight.
"How exactly do we get to him with all those giant plants in the way?"
The quartet stopped to think, and then, Kara had an idea.
"Carmine, you and Harmony create a distraction. Sapphire, it's time you put that gem power of yours to good use. While you do that, I'll get the lightsaber and catch the mariclava,"
"You're sure that'll work?" Carmine said.
"Trust me. This is for our brother."
Teatra stomped and chomped another vine that started to tangle itself around her. Garrett was struggling as some vines managed to nab him until Tech started shooting the giant plants and destroying them.
"Even the plants in the swamps of Rodia don't grow this aggressively!" Tech said, shooting another plant.
Teatra blasted more of them with her magic and managed to free Garrett so he could cast defense spells of his own.
"By the look of things, I'd say a certain sister-in-law of mine is responsible." Garret said, before punching another plant. "Petals to yourself!"
The poor plant whimpered like a scared puppy at that.
The group was also quick to notice that these plants smelled like raw sewage in a dump.
"What is that stench?!" Teatra groaned, covering her nose with her wing.
"Based on my knowledge of Enchanted Botany," said Garrett. "I'd say these are likely magic-induced plants that have come in contact with large amounts of pollution."
Pollution was a big no-no in any environment with living things that needed clean air, water, and areas in general to survive. But in magical lands, it was especially emphasized that the land must be cared for, because you see, if enough pollution was absorbed into magical plants or an Enchanted's bloodstream, it could have very dangerous side effects, such as turning mindlessly evil or carnivorous, especially if left untreated for too long.
"Well, how do we stop it?" Tech asked.
"The only way would be with a purification artifact or potion," said Garrett. "Fortunately, my wife has one such as that, but we need to get to her in order to access it."
Quickly, Teatra got the two humans onto her back and began to fly toward the palace, but had to dodge several plants along the way, and unfortunately, she didn't know who was on the path along the way.
Inconveniently, Carmine and Harmony were distracting Anakin/Earth with a bunch of musical instruments as Teatra flew in, and crashed into Sapphire as she was crystalizing the plants, and unfortunately, the clavatized Jedi saw them and caught Kara just as she was about to take the lightsaber from his hands.
"Let... go!" Kara grunted.
"Give it! That's mine!" Earth grunted back.
"Anakin! This isn't you!" Kara said. "You're not a killer!"
But Anakin threw his sister down and threatened her with the lightsaber.
"Stand down, princess! This is for the good of the family!" the villain said.
"How is any of this good for the family?!" Kara said. "Polluting their home even more than it was before? Has it not occurred to you that by doing this, you're only hurting them even more. Just look at what Naboo looks like now!"
But Earth didn't look... Until someone super strong jumped in and held him in a hug.
"Anakin Gabriel Jinn-Skywalker, just look at this mess!" Qui-Gon said angrily, forcing his clavatized son to look at all the damage he'd caused.
Underneath that armor, Anakin quickly saw what he'd done and then thought about what Kara said not five minutes ago. He was only adding to the problem by trying to get revenge on whoever created the pollution, when it could've been literally anyone on or off world by now, and in the process damaging the planet that was his wife's home, the place his daughter was born, and now his whole family's home.
"What... what have I done?!" said Earth, dropping the lightsaber.
Quickly, Teatra stomped on the lightsaber and released the mariclava, which Harmony hit with Luminesk, turning Earth back into Anakin, who was breathing heavily and had tears in his eyes. But even quicker, Garrett created some magic bubbles for everyone who didn't have a mask to be able to breathe.
Anakin's siblings hugged him tightly, relieved to see he was okay. But, Anakin was also worried.
"I'm not the only victim here." Anakin said. "I remember Mariverde saying she clavatized two others. They tried to reject it at first too. I think one of them was Caroline!"
That immediately put Carmine in a panic, and then his phone beeped, and he opened the message to find a video of a villain called Water, whose identity was shown when her power was glitching.
"Look! Caroline was clavatized." Carmine said. "But, her clavatization isn't holding that strongly."
"It must be because she is pregnant." Qui-Gon said, recalling how pregnant enchanteds often had power surges in the first stage of pregnancy.
"But... Caroline isn't an Enchanted. Is she?" said Kara.
"No. Which means... we gotta save her now!" Carmine panicked, flying off to look for his wife.
Figuring that Caroline was likely heading somewhere there was water, everyone decided to split up and search around any place they knew large amounts of water came from.
Caroline/Water followed where her new magic traced the source of the gunk that was in the lake to a warehouse somewhere, where she found all these tubes filled with who knows what, and there were scientists there who looked terrified to see her entering.
"Which of you is responsible for my daughter's illness?!" she said angrily.
Water angrily strode into the lab and cast several spells at the many tubes, dumping the contents all over the floor.
"Which one of you is charge!"
That was when one man, whose face was hidden under a hood, demanded Caroline explain herself.
"Your people have been dumping toxic waste into the Naboo Lake, and you nearly ended up killing my daughter and my nephew with your pollutants. I am demanding you clean up your mess and give a formal apology to my family."
But the man just laughed at her and said, "My business is none of your concern, Miss... whoever you are. I am in the midst of creating a new discovery, and the last ingredient resides here on Naboo. And I will not answer to you."
"Oh really?"
Water stomped one foot and had all doors and windows sealed shut. And then, all the scientists suddenly froze as they heard what sounded like water. A lot of water!
And the water rose as Water began to sing a special song (to the melody of Sara Singer's "Siren Song")
Hear my voice as here you see
Water rising rapidly
At the bottom of the sea
Sleep for all eternity
Sailors live so restlessly
Come with me, sleep peacefully
Listen to this siren's song
And you'll pay for all your wrong
Let my voice lead you this way
I will not lead you astray
Trust me as the waters rise
Rising until you all die
The scientists all became terrified and tried anything they could to break out of the building, but the water only continued to rise, and unfortunately, not all the people n the building could swim. However, their leader did see one opening that Water missed, and he took his chance and escaped, but left the others behind.
Hear my voice as here you see
Water rising rapidly
At the bottom of this sea
Sleep for all eternity
Let the water fill your lungs
Struggle not, soon peace will come
Taking in your final breath
Sink down to the ocean's depths
"I wish I could always be
In the ocean's arms, you see"
He who'd wanted nothing more
Sleeps now at the ocean floor
Ocean was your lover's name
You had loved her all the same
Now you'll always be together
Sirens are so very clever
Hear my voice as here you see
Water rising rapidly
At the bottom of the sea
Sleep for all eternity
As Caroline continued to sing, Carmine suddenly heard it. Being a siren type of enchanted, he could hear or sense siren magic a mile away. Sure enough, he followed it to the warehouse, where he saw three other people struggling to keep their heads above the water that kept rising. There was no time to go look for the others.
Carmine quickly blasted his way into the warehouse and dove under the water, where he found his wife still singing and able to breathe surprisingly, though not that surprising with her power being water and all.
As Carmine swam closer to his wife, he quickly found that he started to change too; his legs suddenly turned into a gold and orange tail, but it looked slightly different in shape. You see, sirens and mermaids look similar, but a siren's tail was shaped more like a flame at its ends, which helped to tell the two apart.
But Carmine had no time to admire his tail, as his wife needed him and she needed him now.
"Caroline!" Carmine exclaimed.
Water seemed to freeze for a moment when she heard Carmine's voice, and then bits of her armor started to disappear.
"Carmine?" said Caroline. "What's happening?"
"I'm going to get you out of here."
Carmine grabbed his wife's hand and began pulling her up to the surface, but Water started to take over again, Caroline trying to fight her off.
"It's your pregnancy," said Carmine. "It's making the mariclava struggle to hold onto you. You have to fight it off!"
"I can't!" Caroline said as the villain took over again. "This quest is incomplete. Water must prevail."
Carmine, however, wrapped his arms around his wife's waist and pulled her out from the water, and Forced the helmet off her head, giving him time to reason with his wife.
"Caroline, I know you. I've seen you perform the lead in Swan Lake after staying up three straight days studying for midterms. You balanced college and caring for our first baby, and you've done so much more. The woman I married is stronger than any magic spell. And now Lamenta and the new baby need you. I need you."
Carmine then kissed his wife's lips. Caroline found herself frozen as her husband kissed her. And in doing so, the mariclava's grip grew even weaker as Caroline began to kiss back.
As the couple continued kissing, the water stopped rising, and slowly the villain Water tranformed back into Caroline.
Caroline gasped as she felt like an enormous weight was just lifted off her back.
"I'm free?" A smile slowly came to Caroline's face and she laughed with delight. "I'm free!"
"That's the Caroline I know and love," smiled Carmine, kissing his wife once more.
That was two down, but there was still one clavatized villain left: Air.
