1. "On My Way Home (Hawaiian Lullaby)" by Imagination Movers
2. Instrumental of "Under the Sea" by London Music Works
Boba and Carmine joined in the musicians to play the drums and the ukelele, while the girls joined in the others to dance.
Garrett knew that this dance was an essential piece of his family's history and traditions, so, he made sure that Goldie especially knew the words and movements for this particular dance that was done by all the female members of the family while the males played the music and sang along.
Initially, Goldie felt nervous, but it turned out hula came naturally to her. It was pretty much in her blood, she guessed. Mona joined in too, but she didn't remove her cloak, neither did either of the females of Cho and Lisa's triplets.
Much like Mona and Mariposa, those who were wearing cloaks gave the excuse that they had a skin condition that they had to wear the cloaks for. But, the girls put on the grass skirts anyway.
Beautiful music was played as it was officially time for the dance to begin.
Goldie:
I'm on my way home
To the middle of the sea
There's an island lullaby
That is calling out to me
I'm on my way home
My pacific paradise
Blue water clears my face
And the mountains touch the sky
Carmine:
My big family waits for me
In a house in the shade of a mango tree
I'm gonna make the whole world smile
Garrett:
Spend the night here on this beautiful isle
See the highest moutain-top
Right there below your feet
The fish in the clear blue waters
And pineapple tastes so sweet?
Goldie:
I'm on my home
(Mona: I'm on my way home)
To the middle of the sea
(Mona: To the middle of the sea)
There's an island lullaby
(There's an island lullaby)
That is calling out to me
(Girls: Calling out to me!)
Mariposa:
I see sea-birds flying high
See turtles splash below
All the island girls & boys
Shout "Aloha!"
(Kids: Aloha!)
Anakin:
Waves dancin' in the moonlight
Carmine:
Gentle breeze across the sand
Boba:
Hear a song in the leaves of the orange trees
Garrett:
That sing a lullaby to you and me!
The guys drummed up a beat and everyone just danced along and had fun until Goldie was ready for the big finish.
Goldie:
Ecoo hoo a may
EE comoo wana
Ay kay lay mo Lokahi
EE layee ah hoo wi ee nay
(Gabby: calling out to me!)
Guys:
On my way, on my way
(Goldie: to the middle of the sea)
On my way, on my way
(Goldie: there's an island lullaby)
On my way, on my way
(Goldie: that is calling out to me)
On my way
Everyone was cheering as the dance finished with a great finale.
"That was awesome!" Gabby cheered.
"I never knew hula dancing was so much fun." Omega said, dancing a little playfully.
But hula dancing wasn't the only activity they had at the luau.
"Who's ready to catch some waves?" Nani called, grabbing her surfboard.
Lots of people grabbed a board, including Garrett, who was more than ready to regain his title as the greatest surfer.
"Let an old pro show you how it's done, everyone." Garrett said, grabbing a board.
"Gotta warn you, kaikua'ana." Akamu said. "I've had lots of time to practice."
"Then let's see if you got what it takes."
Garrett and Akamu raced each other into the water paddling on their boards, waiting for the best waves to come. Garrett placed his hand on the water, and sure enough, there were some gnarly waves coming their way.
"Cannonball!" Boba shouted, jumping into the water and taking on merman form.
"Hey, Boba! Wait up!" Gabby called, swimming as a mermaid to catch up with her brother.
Buttercup and Goldie floated by on a surfboard to join in the fun.
"Here comes a big wave!" Buttercup called. "All surfers hold onto your hats!"
"I don't have a hat!" Wrecker called, the wave making him wipe out the minute it lifted him up. He popped out from the water with a gasp. "I'm okay!"
The others caught themselves on the waves, Garrett and Akamu looking to be the most competitive ones out there, but in a fun way. Everyone was impressed to see Garrett bringing back his old habits of showing off some stunning moves he knew from his champion surfer days, but Akamu was also highly skilled. He had great balance like his brother, and could even backflip and land perfectly back on his board.
"Not bad," said Garrett. "But can you do this?"
Garrett did a really difficult kind of trick where he rode up higher into the wave and flipped three times before dashing back into the water. Everyone was astonished, and Akamu, naturally, tried to outdo his big brother's movement, only to wipeout on the flip part and end up splashing into the water below. Fortunately, good swimmers ran in their family too.
"Hey, look at Gabby and Boba." Diamond said, pointing farther into the water.
And just where Diamond motioned, Gabby and Boba were swimming and doing all kinds of tricks with a bunch of dolphins, except that sent the adults in Garrett's family into a panic as Goldie and Buttercup were joining the two royal children.
"Children! Get out of there!" Mrs. Heartwood screamed.
But the children were too far to hear her. So, Mr. Heartwood took out his wand and cast as spell that pulled the four kids out from the water and back to shore, the kids all grunting as they hit the sand.
"Hey! What gives?!" Buttercup shook herself of the water and sand while Gabby and Boba reverted to human form.
"We were having fun out there." Gabby said. "Why'd you pull us out like that?"
"I should have warned you earlier." Mr. Heartwood said. "Lately it hasn't been safe to go past the cove of our beach. We very nearly lost one of our friends that way."
"Why is it dangerous?" Goldie asked. "Are there sharks out there?!"
"No, not that we're aware. We don't know for sure what the danger is, Dear." Mr. Heartwood said, picking up his granddaughter. "But we do know anytime anyone has gotten anywhere near that area, they have been put into a trance of some kind and nearly lured to death. My theory, it must be a doresho gypsy."
Many Heartwood family members shuddered at the thought of doresho gypsies. Some kids even screamed at that thought.
"What makes you think it's a doresho gypsy?" Mariposa asked.
"Weird things have been happening these last few years," said Nani. "First, there were a lot more butterflies coming to our luaus than usual."
Now that the royal family looked around, there definitely were a lot of butterflies flying around.
"Pretty." Wrecker said, looking at all the colorful bugs.
One landed on Carousella's nose, making the young mare giggle.
"They tickle!"
"Yes, they are beautiful." Mrs. Heartwood said. "But what is not so beautiful is encountering a beast such as a doresho gypsy."
"Do you even know anything about doresho gypsies?" Padme asked. "Have you ever even met one?"
"No, but we know all we need to know about them. They are dangerous, power-hungry monsters!"
"How can you say that about a species you know nothing about?" Mariposa said. "Has one ever actually attacked you? Or did you see one and attack them first?"
"It is a rule to attack first when you see a doresho gypsy." A new voice said.
And there came a man with a thick beard. He looked about the same age as Garrett's parents; he was also carrying a belt of what looked like weapon of some sort, and he was wearing camo colors too. Mariposa got a look at the man and thought he looked oddly familiar. Suddenly, for reasons she couldn't explain, her heart rate started to rise and she started to breathe heavily.
"Mari, what's wrong?" Garrett asked quietly so no one else would hear.
"I...I don't know. That man... who is he?"
"I believe that's my eldest uncle-"
"Keanu," smiled Mr. Heartwood. "Glad to see you could make it."
"I would've been here sooner, but my last hunt took longer than anticipated." The man, apparently named Keanu, said. "Those doreshos are getting swifter all the time.
"Allow me to introduce you to the royal family of Solaris," said Mr. Heartwood. "Your Majesties, meet my big brother Keanu Heartwood."
"Nice to meet you," said Qui-Gon, shaking hands with Keanu.
"Ah, and this lovely lady must be Solaris' new queen." Keanu said, taking Shmi's hand and kissing it. "Such an honor to meet you."
"Shmi," said the new queen.
"Simply charming." Keanu cleared his throat. "I assure your majesties, doresho gypsies will not be a problem in your kingdom, for I happen to be a professional doresho hunter."
That struck fear into Mariposa, Mona, and Goldie. But, Goldie was quick to notice a few of her cousins getting nervous, and her Uncle Cho and Violet too! But why?
"Since when have there been doresho hunters?" Anakin asked.
"For a long time, long before even your great grandparents were born." Keanu said. "Sadly, I cannot say it's been simple finding many. those doreshos, I must admit are getting better at hiding."
"Maybe they have good reason to hide." Kara said. "What do you really know about doresho gypsies?"
"I happen to know that they are half butterfly, and therefore must like what normal butterflies like. Things such as fruit, flowers, and other butterflies."
"But have you ever actually met one without attacking it? If there's one thing I've noticed a lot," Kara let a butterfly land on the hibiscus she wore in her hair. "everyone is terrified of doresho gypsies, yet they marvel at the butterflies that innocently flutter about."
"Yeah, how come you're not hunting them?" Lamenta said. "They're gentle, so why can't doresho gypsies be?"
"Were none of you the ones to be attacked my Lady Morpha?" Said Mrs. Heartwood. "the very woman who tried to take over Solaris' remains as many doresho gypsies attempted long ago?"
"Doresho gypsies are nothing but thieves and monsters of destruction." Mr. Heartwood added.
"Well, has it never occurred to you that someone told lies about them in order to hide a darker truth?" Cho said, stepping in.
Nani quickly saw things were starting to get heated up, so she called out to everyone an suggested they continue on with the festivities.
A game of Limbo was set up, everyone getting excited to play. Except, there were a few newbies didn't know how.
"How do you play?" Hunter asked.
"You guys have never played Limbo before?" Anakin said, sounding surprised.
"The only game we got to play in the war was Survival of the Fittest. And occasional Tigger Tag with the little ones."
Gabby and Lamenta giggled at that last bit.
"It's a lot of fun," said Kaia. "You lean back and dance under the stick as low as you can. But it's not easy. You have to do it without touching the stick or falling over."
Some fun music was played ("Under the Sea" instrumental) and the game began.
"Children go first!" Kaia sang as she and Akamu held the stick while a couple of their cousins played the music.
"How low can you go?" People kept chanting as the children took their turn first.
The kids were all laughing as they each took a turn going under the stick.
"I can go low!" Gabby sang, going under the stick.
"Watch and see how low I can go." Lamenta said, taking her turn.
"Here I go!" Goldie laughed, taking her turn, but she fell down. "Oh! I guess I'm out."
"My turn!" Omega took her turn, and then came Boba, but he bumped his head on the stick.
"Ouch!" Boba rubbed his head. "I'm okay."
And then the grownups started to go.
"Watch and learn, ladies." Koa teased, taking his turn, having the pole a little lower.
Everyone was impressed with how low Koa could go.
"Pft! Amateur." Carmine huffed. Then he had the pole go even lower. "Watch and see how a pro does it!"
And Carmine went under the pole without a sweat or so much as a flinch.
"Now that's how you limbo."
"Come on, Mona," said Maya. "How low can you go?"
"Uh...I'd rather not." Mona said nervously, starting to step away. "I think I'm gonna look for more shells instead."
"What's the matter with her?" Chloe asked.
"Mona just isn't used to being around large crowds." Mariposa said. "She's been through a lot."
"I wouldn't be surprised if that Mariverde was behind whatever happened to her." Keanu said. "That woman has been nothing but trouble since she started clavatizing. Serves as living proof the doresho race must be eradicated."
"I agree that Mariverde has been a real troublemaker, but just because she's a doresho gypsy doesn't mean all of them are bad."
"I've seen for myself the damage they can do."
It was then Keanu recalled when he first became a professional doresho hunter. Thirty years ago, he recalled going on a hunt through the forest with a friend of his named Melfred Sommers. They'd gotten reports of a lot more butterflies in the area, and according to doresho hunters' research, where there was an increased number of butterflies, there were usually doresho gypsies not to far away.
And sure enough, they spotted a man with brown and blue butterfly wings grabbing a little girl from a tree.
"I had to save that little girl," said Keanu.
And without hesitation, he shot the doresho male down! And then he and Mel tried to "rescue" the little girl.
"Well, we thought she was an innocent child." Keanu huffed. "Until she unleashed a plethora of those bugs her kind enslaves and attacked us!"
That story sounded very familiar to Mariposa.
"It sounds to me like that doresho you shot was that little girl's father."
"I should've been able to capture her too. Unfortunately, doresho gypsies are only spotted easily once they grow up, otherwise I could've taken her down before she ever had the chance to become so powerful."
"How can you say that about an innocent child?!" Mariposa said very loudly, grabbing a lot of folks' attention.
"She was a doresho gypsy. Hardly innocent." Keanu said, and that was when Mariposa caught a glimpse of his wrist to spot a bracelet he wore.
It was a wooden bead bracelet with four charms of green jade on it in the shapes of a butterfly egg, a caterpillar, a chrysalis, and a butterfly.
Suddenly, it hit Mariposa! She recognized that bracelet!
"Where did you get that?!" Mariposa growled.
"Oh, this? That gypsy I shot down was wearing this. I kept it as a trophy, seeing as it was my first time actually capturing a doresho."
"You monster!" Mariposa growled, looking ready to murder Keanu right then and there.
"Mari, calm down." Garrett said, taking his wife's hand, only for her to pull away.
"How could you do that?!" Mariposa strode toward Keanu. "Murdering an innocent child's father, leaving her orphaned and on the run, never knowing if she would live to see tomorrow!"
"Doresho gypsies deserve to die! Why do you even care about my bracelet anyway?"
"Because it's not your bracelet!" Mariposa angrily grabbed his wrist and took the bracelet from him. "This bracelet belonged to my father!"
Suddenly, much of Garrett's family was in great shock, even Keanu.
And that was when Mariposa removed her cloak and spread out her wings.
"That's right! I was the little girl from that day!" Mariposa said angrily, angry tears coming to her eyes. If she didn't look steamed before, she certainly looked furious now. "You took the only thing I loved! I was forced to raise myself every day from when I was just eight years old!"
Keanu started to get out one of his weapons, and got ready to attack, and so did some members of the Heartwood family, but Garrett quickly jumped between his wife and his uncle, and the children protected Mariposa from behind.
"Move aside, nephew." Keanu said.
"No, Uncle Keanu." Garrett said firmly. "I won't let you harm my wife."
"All this time, you've been married to a Doresho Gypsy?!" Mr. Heartwood said.
"How could you do this to us, Garrett?" Mrs. Heartwood said.
"I know," said Garrett. "You were raised to believe doresho gypsies are monsters, and you taught me and my siblings that too. But we were wrong about them. Everyone has been wrong about maricambas, their true species name, for centuries."
"It's true." Anakin said, stepping up. "The maricambas never committed any crimes toward Solaris before the first known attack they'd done."
"They were framed," said Kara. "By none other than our own ancestors. One of whom was so desperate to prevent his son from starting a family with a maricamba that he had them framed for crimes he orchestrated just to have an excuse to send armies to attack their village and drive into hiding just to stay alive, and then our kind renamed them doresho gypsies."
"It's also the real reason Daddy never came to these reunions," said Goldie. "He was protecting me and Mommy because he knew you would react this way if you knew he married a doresho gypsy and then brought a half-doresho, me, into the world."
"You expect us to believe that big pile of lies?" Mr. Heartwood said. "All doreshos are nothing but thieves and liars."
"Okay, that's it!" Cho said, sounding angry. "I've been dealing with your prejudice towards my kind for the last twenty years, and I am done!"
"What do you mean, your kind?" said Minka, confused.
It was then, that Cho removed his cloak, and revealed he had black and red wings of a scarlet mormon butterfly, and then the triplets removed their cloaks to reveal they had different colored swallowtail butterfly wings too! Even Violet remove her cloak to reveal that she had the purple wings of a Royal Assyrian butterfly.
"Lisa...Akamu..." Mr. Heartwood said. "Did you know about your...spouses?"
"Yes, Daddy. I did." Lisa confessed. "I learned Cho is a maricamba as soon as we got engaged. And Garrett's right. Maricambas aren't dangerous like you told us they are."
"And that's exactly why Violet and I planned to elope," said Akamu. "Because we knew you wouldn't be supportive of our love."
"Just like you were never supportive of me," said Garrett. "You've never approved of anything I did. And I knew you wouldn't be supporitve of my marriage like you didn't support my career choice."
"It's easier to be supportive of a son who makes smart decisions," said Mr. Heartwood.
"Leaving to become a teacher was a smart decision. Unlike you, I actually took the time to learn about doresho gypsies- maricambas. And need I remind you that Mariposa saved my life?! If her people are so dangerous, why would Mariposa have saved me? And why would maricambas today be fearful of Mariverde?"
Mona got scared hearing that name, and ran into Hunter's arms, exposing her wings too.
"How many of you are there?!" Keanu started to get out a gun of some kind, only for Qui-Gon to snatch it and smash it with his bare hands.
"That's enough!" Qui-Gon said.
"Garrett, you've taught these people to support monsters! You've betrayed this family!"
"You betrayed this family the moment you decided to run away from your culture!" Mr. Heartwood said.
"I didn't run away from my culture! I ran away from you!" Garrett said. "I came here to make things right, and I thought after learning who my wife is on the inside, you would learn you were wrong, but clearly, I was the one in the wrong. Do you know that Mona became fearful of her own species because of her own mother? Mariverde was prepared to have her own daughter killed for selfish purposes, but my wife, unlike her, actually cares about others. And there are many other maricambas who want nothing more than to live in peace. But prejudice folks like you make that impossible!"
As Garrett continued his angry speech, no one seemed to notice a mariclava flying over.
"Maricambas aren't the monsters, it's people like you who don't take the time to learn, and you wouldn't understand the value of having teachers who care if if hit you like a tropical storm!"
And that was when the mariclava landed on Garrett's wooden bead necklace.
"OH NO!" the kids all shouted; Garrett was about to be clavatized.
"Correct, you are dear brother." Mariverde said. "Clearly your so-called family needs a lesson in what a real monster looks like."
Garrett held his head in pain.
"No! Not you!"
"Leave him alone, Mariana!" Mariposa said, hugging her husband. "I know you can hear me! Leave my husband alone!"
Garrett kept trying to fight off the mariclava.
"You can do it, Garrett! Fight it!"
"Life's not fair in this way, is it?" Mariverde continued. "Your family says they love you, and yet they are unsupportive of you even when you make smarter choices. You are a beloved teacher, yet they favor a child who becomes a doctor. I see you are an educated man, Garrett. And I shall give you the power to show them just how much stronger you are with your smarts as Tropi-Callous."
It was then that Garrett opened his eyes as they turned all swirly and Mariverde was getting into his head.
"All I ask in return is you bring me a member of the royal family. Any member will do. Even an equine friend of theirs."
As hard as Garrett tried, he couldn't save himself from being engulfed by Mariverde's power.
Suddenly, the wind got really strong. The trees could barely stand as the wind got even stronger within seconds, and the water got even stronger. But that wasn't the scariest thing to happen. As clouds moved in, and the sky got darker, tons of water rose up from the ocean and took the form of a humanoid made entirely of water and everything that was in it, and he let out a loud cackle as thunder boomed and lightning flashed.
"Feel the might storm of Tropi-Callous!" Garrett, or rather, Tropi-Callous, laughed.
Tropi-Callous made the wind blow even stronger.
"RUN!" Mr. Heartwood said. "Everyone, get indoors!"
Everyone tried to run, but they were pushed back by a huge wall of water that suddenly rushed in their way. And the water wasn't empty either. In the water, there suddenly came a bunch of moray eels, all ready to attack, and jellyfish looking ready to sting. But perhaps the scariest thing to come in from Tropi-Callous' winds and water were.
"SHARKS!" Lily screamed.
And it wasn't even just sharks, eels, jellyfish, or even an octopus. There were many lobsters and giant crabs emerging from the water going after
Tropi-Callous kept everyone busy with all the scariest creatures in the ocean, while trying to decide on which member of the royal family to take for Mariverde. And, he chose...
"Prince Anakin!"
And out from the water, came a huge rope of kelp that lassoed around Anakin and pulled him to the ground.
"Ahh!" Anakin grunted as he fell face-first into the sand. He tried to break free from the kelp, but it was really strong. And when he tried to grab his lightsaber to cut it, a crab took it. Before Anakin even had a chance to use the Force, Anakin was pulled right over to the water.
"HELP!" Anakin screamed.
"ANAKIN/DADDY!" Anakin's family screamed.
"Dad!" Omega cried, running toward the water to go save her father.
"Omega, no!" Estrella swooped in and got Omega away before a great white shark could chomp her.
"Whoa! That was too close!" Omega gasped.
"What do we do?!" Goldie screamed over the loud wind.
"We do what Garrett taught us!" Kara said. "Like it or not, this may be the biggest test we have to face, using everything we've learned since the Heartwoods entered our lives. So, let's do what we do best. Conquer evil and protect this galaxy as a family!"
Every family member put their hand or hoof in, and on three declared "FAMILY!"
