D. Va
Background:
D.Va is a former professional gamer who now uses her skills to pilot a state-of-the-art mech in defense of her homeland.
Twenty years ago, South Korea was attacked by a colossal omnic monstrosity that rose from the depths of the East China Sea. The massive, lumbering construct caused catastrophic damage to coastal cities before it was driven back beneath the waves. In response, the South Korean government developed a mechanized armored drone unit, called MEKA, to protect urban environments in future engagements with the omnic threat.
The government's fears proved to be well founded, as a disturbing pattern of attacks emerged. Every few years, the monstrosity would rise from the sea to assault South Korea and its neighbors. The omnic learned from these encounters, often reconfiguring itself in a different form and appearing with new weapons and capabilities. Each incident ended in a stalemate, with the monstrosity defeated but not destroyed.
As the omnic continued to adapt, it eventually disrupted MEKA's drone-control networks, forcing the military to place pilots in the mechs. Scrambling to find suitable candidates, the government turned to the country's professional gamers, who possessed the necessary reflexes and instincts to operate the mechs' advanced weapons systems. Top stars were drafted, including reigning world champion Hana Song, also known as "D.Va." Famous for her elite skills, D.Va was a fierce competitor who played to win at all costs, and she had a well-earned reputation for showing no mercy to her opponents.
Seeing her new mission as a game, D.Va fearlessly charges into battle alongside the rest of her MEKA unit, ready to spring to her nation's defense at a moment's notice. Recently, she has begun to stream combat operations to her adoring fans, and her growing following has turned her into a global icon.
Powers and Abilities:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics,
Vehicular Mastery (Master MEKA Pilot),
Weapon Mastery (Skilled Marksman),
Energy Projection,
Explosion Manipulation (Via Micro Missiles and Self-Destruct),
Flight (Via her MEKA's Boosters),
Self-Destruction,
Instinctive Reaction (D.Va's MEKA's defense array automatically shoots down projectiles caught in it)
Weaknesses: D.Va can be somewhat overconfident at times.
Mechanica
Background:
She was born without extendable ARMS, so she uses a powered suit to compete in the ARMS Grand Prix.
Mechanica's family has a scrapyard as their workshop. In her day-to-day life, Mechanica works alongside other employees and helps her dad with his work. When she was younger, she found a tiny TV at the local scrapyard; she used it to watch ARMS matches. There was a time when she went to watch the Grand Prix with her dad. They even managed to snap a photo with Max Brass! That experience cemented her status as a lifelong ARMS fan. Eventually, the whole workshop became covered in TVs so everyone could watch ARMS matches while they worked.
Mechanica watched Max Brass dominate the ARMS League throughout her childhood. During that time, she also taught herself much knowledge through disassembling machinery that were unknown to her. She just could not help but seek to understand the inner workings of machines. In time, her family's scrapyard also became her work station. With the hopes of joining the Grand Prix, she built a mecha with these extendable ARMS so that she could compete.
Powers and Abilities:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics
High Intellect,
Skilled Mechanic,
Elasticity,
Damage Reduction,
Hovering (Pseudo-Flight),
Electricity Manipulation (Revolver),
Can create Explosions (Homie),
Skilled Hammer wielder (Whammer)
Weaknesses: None notable, considerably weaker without her mecha.
Song: Overwatch the ARMS
Busan, South Korea, a vibrant event In the mid 2070s took place in the heart of the downtown area. Enthusiastic fans eagerly awaited a spectacular encounter between two highly anticipated figures, creating a sense of joy and anticipation in the air.
Cheers erupted from the crowd as they witnessed the spectacle of a mecha suit descending from the sky, elegantly coming to a landing. The pilot emerged, revealing herself to be Hana Song, also known as D.Va, the nation's revered Overwatch heroine and a former gaming professional. Holding a microphone with a cheerful demeanor, D.Va addressed her devoted fans, her voice filled with excitement.
"How's it going, everyone?"
The crowd responded enthusiastically, their loud and positive cheers echoing throughout the area. Hana continued her interaction with the crowd, walking around her mecha with a nonchalant swagger. With a playful tone, she spoke into the microphone,
"Now, I know over the past year, you guys have been asking, requesting, and even begging that I meet this girl you think might be a challenge to my piloting skills. Aww... Do some of you really think there's someone better than me?"
Hana received mixed feedback from the crowd, but she confidently took it in stride. With a smirk, she exclaimed,
"Your wait is finally over, folks! Let's settle the debate: who's the superior pilot? Please welcome our special guest for this exhibition, Mechanica!"
The heroine then gestured towards a teenage girl who emerged, deftly piloting a robust yellow ARMS suit. The girl acknowledged the enthusiastic applause with a wave. Mechanica leaped out of her suit and exchanged a firm handshake with Hana.
"Think you got what it takes to become number one, rookie?"
"You bet I do! I've got what it takes to climb to the top and claim the number one spot!"
Both women climbed back into their respective mech suits, preparing for the upcoming match. Mechanica readied her spring-like ARMS, while D.Va powered up her fusion cannons. The moment had arrived for the exhibition to begin.
With the go signal given, D.Va activated her suit's thrusters, launching herself towards Mechanica with an unexpected swiftness. Just as the rookie took flight, D.Va slammed into her ARMS suit, seizing the initial advantage.
D.Va wore a confident smirk as she loosed her fusion cannons, raining a barrage of rapid-fire bullets that delivered significant damage to Mechanica's suit. The rookie winced under the impact and ensuing attacks, but she quickly struck back, deploying her Whammer and repelling D.Va off course.
D.Va was taken aback by the sheer force generated by the Whammer as her mech suit plummeted to the ground, but she responded with a confident chuckle, relishing the challenge. Taking advantage of the moment, D.Va unleashed a volley of salvo missiles, launching a barrage of miniature explosives at the rookie pilot.
Mechanica reacted swiftly, leaping out of the range of the initial barrage of missiles. Not wasting a moment, she utilized her extended ARMS to counter the explosives. With a spin, she spun her ARMS like a top, detonating the missiles before they could inflict harm.
Mechanica attempted to land a succession of punches using her spring-loaded ARMS, alternating between the Whammer and Homie missile fist. However, much to her disappointment, she found herself having little success as D.Va activated her defense matrix, efficiently neutralizing the young rookie's attacks before they could even reach their target.
Mechanica tried to outmaneuver D.Va by flying over her, intending to gain an advantageous position. However, the Overwatch heroine proved too quick to be outflanked, and promptly activated her thrusters to rise and strike Mechanica's ARMS suit once more.
D.Va soared upward, lifting Mechanica's ARMS suit airborne. With a powerful swing, D.Va sent the rookie pilot flying backward, a significant distance away. Mechanica desperately attempted to regain control, activating her suit's thrusters and using her ARMS to stabilize herself.
D.VA expertly maneuvered her suit, circling Mechanica while unleashing a barrage of fusion cannon shots, inflicting substantial damage. Realising the need to escape the predicament, Mechanica spun her mech suit, bringing her Whammer down upon the Overwatch heroine from above. As D.VA braced for the impact, the Whammer struck true, and her mech suit crashed onto the street with its feet.
Mechanica cleverly retreated into an underground tunnel, implementing her strategy. D.VA flew over the tunnel and attempted to cut her off on the other side. However, upon reaching the other end, she was caught off-guard by a powerful explosion as she was struck by the Homie fist, extended and propelled by Mechanica's spring ARMS.
Mechanica skillfully spun her ARMS suit's body like a top, delivering a relentless barrage of alternating blows with her Whammer and Homie. The continuous switch between physical impact and explosion created a formidable onslaught.
D.VA devised a plan, seemingly counterintuitive, but with confidence in her ability to execute it. She fired off a renewed volley of missiles, which soared high into the air before descending upon both fighters, causing numerous explosions. Although D.VA was mostly unscathed, Mechanica was caught off guard, left dazed and disoriented by the unexpected tactic.
D.VA seamlessly coiled her fusion cannons around Mechanica's ARMS suit, and then engaged the thrusters, propelling both contenders higher into the air. Mechanica began to understand the unfolding situation as D.VA pressed the self-destruct button, prompting her to eject herself from the mech suit. She fell safely to the ground, wearing a smug smirk.
Mechanica let out a startled yelp as she climbed out of the mech suit, only to find herself plummeting through the air. She let out a scream while falling, and at the same time, D.VA's Tokki suit detonated, taking out her ARMS suit. Hana swiftly managed to catch the falling girl, preventing her from sustaining a potentially deadly fall.
"You okay there, Rookie?"
The moment was interrupted as the wreckage of both mech suits came crashing down in a pile of burning scraps. Mechanica wailed in distress, lamenting the fate of her beloved ARMS suit.
"No! My ARMS suit! I built it myself!"
She exclaimed, wriggling out of Hana's arms as despair filled her voice. Hana gently placed her hand on Mechanica's shoulder, her expression sympathetic, and her voice filled with empathy.
"I understand what it's like to lose your first robot, but I can assist you in constructing a new one. Although I'm puzzled by the spring arms, its ability to withstand damage and its unique nature made the fight even more enjoyable. I'd be happy to help enhances it along with you. What do you think?"
Mechanica looked up at Hana with a mix of surprise and hope. It seemed as though she could not believe the words she was hearing. Building a new ARMS suit, with the assistance of someone as famous and experienced as D.VA, was a dream come true for her.
"Really? You'd... help me?"
She asked, her voice filled with both excitement and disbelief. Hana nodded, her smile warm and welcoming.
"Really. I'd be more than happy to help you build a new suit. After all, we can make it even better than the last one."
Mechanica's face lit up with an infectious grin as the reality of the situation sank in. Working together with the legendary D.Va to create a new and improved ARMS suit was an opportunity that she could not pass up.
"Oh my god! Thank you! Thank you so much!"
She exclaimed, her voice brimming with gratitude and enthusiasm. The jubilant commotion of cameras and an adoring crowd quickly surrounded the two women as they accepted the adoration with open arms. Hana Song addressed her fans, her voice carrying across the celebrating onlookers.
"And there you go, my loyal fans! While victory may have been in ARMS reach for Mechanica, I Overwatched out for my chance, and took it! Thank you everyone!"
Strength: While the strength of these two girls in their mech suits are a bit questionable, what their suits were made for paints a picture. Mechanica's ARMS suit was made for recreational combat. Something where people are bashed around, but nothing too serious happens. But D.Va's Tokki was designed and created to be a military defense suit to combat invading omnics, and fights on par with the task force known as Overwatch. D.Va was much more offensively minded.
Speed: Both pilots have similar subsonic movement and combat speeds to move around each other, but Hana has the superior processing speed. Most professional gamers have an APM(Actions per Minute) of somewhere around the low to mid 400s. Technically the highest record is 818, but that's an implausible outlier that might've involved spamming. Meanwhile, D.Va is found to have superhuman reaction time. She can fully withstand Roadhog's ultimate, which fires 128 projectiles per second. If she were to face against 11 Roadhog ultimates in a custom Deathmatch game, in a best-case scenario, her maximum APM would be 84480 APM. This makes her 192X faster than the acceptable fastest record. In other words, if the fastest gamers have a reaction time of 150 milliseconds, then Hana Song would be a professional gamer with a 78 microsecond reaction time. Meaning that there was nothing that Mechanica could do that would surprise D.Va if she could see it, and she's not exactly known for stealth.
Skill: Hana has the more skill, as she's more used to life or death circumstances which requires more battle instinct than Mechanica who's only ever been in their equivalent of fighting tournaments and sports.
Experience: At the very least, D.Va has been fighting for two years, fighting from 19-21, while she's fighting against a teenager who can fight with the best of the ARMS players, but it's implied that she's only just gotten into the game relatively recently.
Powers: D.Va doesn't have one major disadvantage that Mechanica has: spring arms. While the latter may have had superior range thanks to them, there was nothing stopping Hana from either getting out of the way quick enough, or targeting the arms themselves and possibly destroying them, leaving Mechanica defenseless.
The winner is D.Va
