Her head began to hurt before the messages and recording arrived they nearly made her pass out and she couldn't help but feel as if she was somehow sinking deeper into the pit that she had fallen into.
It was one threatening message after another, her debt had already been forgotten and the interest was increasing. She didn't bother to look at them after all what was the point?
The rats that ruled the world had smelled fresh blood and they were going to have it one way or another.
She didn't notice when they stopped walking or when her guards opened the unmarked white steel door, she could see a room that didn't have anything except for a single brown metal table.
The ceiling the walls and the floor were white, but there was nothing else except a single table, there weren't even chairs in the room.
A door that she hadn't seen before opened behind the table and a man who was dressed in a black suit walked in.
"Miss. Martinez please come in," he says to her.
"Congratulations you're hired.' she hears him say the moment she steps one foot inside.
"I have the power to give you whatever you want, but you have to ask for it now."
"Do you want to know where you have been? What your son has been up to while you were dead?"
"Or perhaps you want that debt to be paid along with the interests?" he says to her when she takes the second step.
It was like having a rope tied around her neck. It didn't matter what she did anymore, if she walked she would be hunted by the debt collectors, and no matter how much she worked she would never be able to pay everything she owed.
Then there was David, she had seen with her own eyes what those monsters were willing to do to the families of the people who owed them money.
"Before you answer let me make one thing clear. We don't take kindly to betrayal and you don't want to know what we do to traitors.' he warns her his voice feels like a knife that has pushed its way into her chest.
She can't help but lower her head, it's too much, she feels so mall, so worthless. She just lost everything, no even worse everything was taken from her, even her mind.
Now she stands in front of another monster that sees her as nothing more than a toy that he can abuse and throw away when he's done breaking it.
"Deal." he says to her before she feels herself becoming dizzy and her head headache becomes even worse.
"Butterfly, that dog that stands behind you. You belong to him now." she hears the man say when she turns to look back she sees the two guards who brought her here.
"You are his toy, his lover, his servant. You will do everything he says because you belong to him. Don't look at the one with armor, but the older one."
"Now get out and do your job." he says to her.
"When you see me or another dog you will need to say good morning dog and I will say goodnight butterfly."
She turned to look at her new master, just the thought of that word made her heart break even more than it already was, it was even worse because she didn't know when he had guided her here.
The room was full of doctors and "You were an E.M.T. you don't have to stop doing what you are good at." he says to her before gently pushing her in.
Elsewhere
the sounds of footsteps lingered as a man walked around the shaking body of a child.
The boy's body was covered in ice and was barely holding onto life, next to him were the dead bodies of his parents who had received the man's attack when they tried to protect their child.
The man's red eyes and ice-covered skin that glowed with an unnatural light looked at the city and smiled.
He could feel the eyes of others on him, why he didn't bother to attack them was a mystery, but it didn't matter as the alert reached the Watchmen who began to erase the records that might have popped while alerting the guards.
Unmanned drones began to fly around the area looking for anything that should be there, they saw crimes and acts that should have landed people in jail but that was normal here so those things didn't matter.
Gloria followed the team that she had been handed to out of the ambulance she held the machine gun that she had been given tightly over her shoulder.
The medic bag that was meant for soldiers felt heavy on her back, the entire area had gone dark, the advertisements were still being shown and the videos that people usually did were still happening there were no people.
"The dogs are here." one of her seniors says to her and she sees the same men from before arriving in the Impala that they used to take her to the hospital.
"No hero business, if you see the enemy hide and call for backup," sir says to them before his sunglasses glow a bright white and he walks into the alley that they are parked in front of.
The man wearing the black armor waits for sir to be out of sight before he follows the old man's lead and walks into the alley, no one moves until both men are out of sight.
"Here." one of her seniors says to her while putting a belt on her hand.
"What's this for?" she asks him.
"Thyre grenades, we can't expect the dogs to find us before whatever is in here does so we have to survive long enough for them to find us." he answers her.
She puts the belt around her waist and hears a click that tells her that it's on tightly.
