Okay so this is going to be a different kind of chapter than usual (meaning it's going to have something instead of fluff) so consider yourself warned. Also sorry for the long wait but something seriously personal came up this spring and left me as a mess. I'm fine as of now.
Chapter 9 (where we left off last time)
The sun began to rise with the glare of the light waking me up with a yawn only to feel a spike of pain on my side. "Oww." I grunted with an agitated sigh, my sides still ached from that beat down Dawn gave me. Must have been one hell of a nightmare for her to cause this much damage, I mean just look at the walls of the den they're cracked!
"Well at least I'm not crippled again." I thought to myself as I lazily stretched my legs. Turning my gaze to Dawn I realized she was still knocked out cold but thankfully she didn't have her ribbons wrapped around me. After last night Id think it be best if she didn't try to grab me with those things at least for a week or two otherwise I'd have a panic attack…
What?
Seriously those ribbons will screw you up.
Looking over to the left I realised we were running short on berries.
"Son of a-"
I might have to start using the money I had saved up sooner than I thought. Not that it matters, I saved enough for a lifetime. Walking over to my hiding spot I began to dig through the dirt until I found a sack filled with hundreds of coins. I grabbed a few coins in my maw only to place them in my bag along with some books I needed to return.
"That should be more than enough for the week" I thought to myself. Laying myself next to dawn I could only nuzzle her only to utter gently "Come on dawn, time to get up"
"...Five more minutes" she yawned.
She had a rough night I'll give her that, but unfortunately for her I'm pretty impatient, and I know just how to get her attention only downside is she may get just a little well flirty.
Without letting my mind overload I got close to dawn and quickly gave her kiss (deeper than intended mind you). Dawns eyes shot open immediately only for her to get up slowly. "Okay you have my attention now Spikey" she murmured in a flirtatious manner only to wink captivatingly. She then slowly started to make her way towards me causing me to back away nervously.
What have I done?! I didn't want that kind of attention! Dawn's ribbons then made their way towards causing me to flinch the moment they came into contact with my fur. The ribbons wrapped around me affectionately but I was trying to break free. Dawn seemed to notice this and unwrapped her ribbons causing me to sigh in relief.
"You need something? She asked
"I-uh W-we need to go out…" I barely managed stutter with a giant blush causing her to giggle.
DAWN, STOP BEING SO DARN CUTE!
"Out as in a date?" she suggested with a rather mischievous grin.. "Yes- Wait no! er- I just need to run some errands but I… I didn't really want go alone." I stammered pathetically only to face paw in embarrassment.
ARCEUS I SUCK!
"Oh, then why didn't you say so?" She asked rhetorically only to nuzzle my cheek. She then got even closer and whispered into my ear "Though a date would be nice today…"
"I'll uh keep that in mind"
"Is it really that hard to go grocery shopping?"
Later…
"So um, how are you doing today? Dawn asked with her flirtatious mood completely dissipated. We had already purchased the berries but we just wanted stroll by town to see what was new.
"I'm fine." I replied dryly.
"A-are you sure I hurt you bad last night maybe you should-"
"Dawn honestly I'm fine, I've taken plenty of beatings this was no different." I reassured her as we continued walking through town. "If it means anything I just wanted to say i'm sorry" She apologized. "Like I said before it's alright if you didn't mean it then there's no harm done in my book..." I trailed off only to remember about my books "Hey, y-you uh mind coming to the library with me? I need to return a couple of books, it's not exactly a date, but hey we could head over to the cafe inside." I suggested rather shyly. Dawn smiled she was about to speak cut off by a painful yelp nearby.
We both immediately ran to the source of the scream only to find an Absol pinned to the ground by a Mightyena who didn't seem to recognize that we were even there. The first thing I noticed was the crimson red eyes on the absol, it was Shade, one of my old bullies. The Mightyena was Samuel another one of my bullies who just so happened to be shades boy friend (small world ain't it?)
She looked pretty banged up by the looks of it."Oh now the tables have turned..." A part of me chuckled. I didn't really know what to do at that moment I kind of wanted to just leave her there to be honest she has caused me a lot of pain in the past mentally and physically. But then I thought about Dawn she has been abused in the past (although not quite in the same manner), she's going through a similar situation as Dawn did.
"If I leave her there I'll just be as bad as her…" I thought to myself bitterly.
Damn…
I hate this, I hate how almost everyone in this town is either a self absorbed jerk or straight up irresponsible, I especially hate the fact that I'm about to help said jerk.
"Spike?" Dawn whispered."Stay back I'm going to try something risky" I whispered to her I snuck up behind the mightyena
"Hi there, I'm here to deliver some fresh karma" I suddenly quipped in only to place my paw against the bastard's back.
"Wha-?!"
ZZAT
I used a shock wave to paralyse him temporarily usually I try to avoid fights altogether this is usually my get out of jail free card of course it doesn't always work. That should hold him for a few minutes, I hope" Walking over to shade I stared down at her I wanted to glare at her but just gave her an emotionless expression.
"S-spike?" She addressed me genuinely confused. I wasted not time slinging her over my back. "What are you-" I interrupted her. "I'm going to get you proper medical attention just try not to move too much alright?" I replied formally. Gesturing Dawn to follow me we began heading to the nearest area to patch shade up. Shade spoke up. "Who is that?"
"Oh, uh this is Dawn she's my girlfriend." I replied with a small blush as I looked over to Dawn who had a blush of her own. "Um hi there." She greeted meekly. "Didn't think you'd have it in you" she replied with a weak chuckle…"
"I wasn't the one who made the move" I replied trying my best to keep a straight face.
"This conversation is just about as awkward as I expected it to be" I thought to myself.
"O-kay then, not to sound ungrateful, but why did you help me? I honestly thought you hated me." She asked. "Don't get me wrong you are probably the last person I'd ever spend my time with, but that doesn't mean I'm going to just stand there while someone is getting abused." I answered with a small frown as we settled down. Shade filled with shame bowed her head.
"look I just wanted to say-"
"I DONT WANT TO HEAR IT!" I finally snapped causing both Dawn and Shade to flinch
"Do you have any idea how many beatings you gave me whether it be from you or your boyfriend?" I growled with my voice raising. Suddenly a ribbon fell on my back I turned my head only to see dawn look over to me with a look of pity on her face. She brought me into a hug "It's okay..." She whispered causing me to get a hold of myself and calm down I wanted to cry.
I grabbed a couple of oran berries while Dawn patched up any cuts or scrapes she had. She wasn't nearly as messed up as me when I helped dawn so she should heal up just fine.
"You should be all healed up in about an hour with these" I spoke up as I rolled the oran berries to her. "Thanks, both of you for everything" She replied as she got up.
"This doesn't change anything." I muttered.
"Yes it does" She replied as we left her alone.

Well I finally finished this chapter I know it didn't have a lot to do with dawn but it felt like a nice change of pace for me. Next chapter will have more Dawn I promise, however what do you guys and gals think about shade should I do a follow up chapter to her character (I probably will)? Let me know in the comments. Chapter might come up faster now that I got my own personal computer rather than working on chapters from a phone. See ya real soon
