(Abigail's POV)
Night had fallen as we were standing outside the Gaia Temple. As soon as the sun disappeared over the horizon, Sonic turned into his Werehog form with a roar. Cinder looked a little scared*
Cream: It's okay, Cindy. Mister D'Coolette was afraid the first time he saw Sonic transform too!
Antoine: "Afraid" is being too strong ze word. Perhaps . . . Startled? At most.
Dulcy leaned on Sonic's head*
Dulcy: The fangs and claws are pretty cool, but all that fur looks like a pain to brush.
Sonic: You're just jealous, Scaly!
Dulcy: As if, Fuzz Ball!
Bunker: I can sense his purity blazing like a beacon through a fog of corruption. How long has he been like this?
Sally: Since the first few tremors before the world shattered.
Bunker: And his Chi has endured this long . . . I'm humbled. I need to meditate more.
Monkey Khan: And you say this happens every night when the sun goes down?
Abigail: Pretty much.
Huckleberry: Chao.
Ken looked a little nervous as he put his hands on my shoulders*
Monkey Khan: Has he ever hurt you? Gone out of control?
Abigail: Well . . . He did go a little crazy when he first transformed, but I wasn't hurt. I'm okay.
Monkey Khan: Alright . . . If you say so.
Abigail: Don't worry. Once the world is fixed, he'll go back to normal.
Monkey Khan: Did your necklace tell you that?
Abigail: Nope. Call it a hunch.
Huckleberry: Chao-Chao.
Just then, Chip, Cheese, & Jian came down from a cliff*
Chip: Guys! Guys! This is bad! Real bad! The Spirit at the Temple has been corrupted by Dark Gaia Energy!
Sonic: Well, I know what that's like . . .
Cheese: Chao! Chao-Chao Chao Chao!
Cream: Cheese says Mr. Zonshen is trapped by the bad spirit, too!
Dulcy: Oh, crud . . .
Sally: What about the Dark Legion? Didn't you say there was a Garrison there?
Jian: Yes. I scouted ahead and . . .
She stopped & looked a little confused when she saw Sonic's night form*
Sally: Sonic transforms at night. Long story. He's fine.
Jian: . . . Sure he is. I scouted ahead. The Dark Egg Legion is conspicuously absent. It's as if they want us to have direct access to the temple grounds.
Sally: Hmm . . . Conquering Storm probably wants us to deal with the Phoenix for her. That, or send her forces in to overwhelm us while we're preoccupied with it . . . So . . . Chip? Now that your powers have been reawakened, is there any way you could cure the Phoenix?
Chip: Er . . . Maybe? It is a spirit, do it's kind of a special situation. If it were weakened enough, I might be able to restore it?
Sonic: Then leave that to me! We Dark Gaia-Infested-Types need to look after each other.
Abigail: I'll go with them. To protect Chip and Zonshen.
Monkey Khan: I will come as well. *we all looked him with smirks & giggles (from Cream & Cinder), making him blush* I - In case you guys need back-up.
Sally: Excellent. Then the rest of us will see if we can't set up an ambush of our own . . .
Soon, me, Huck, Ken, Sonic, & Chip were on the Gaia Temple grounds, looking for Zonshen. Ken let me ride with him on his cloud. The Dark Gaia Phoenix wasn't around*
Chip: Over here! Hurry before it comes back!
We found an elderly man with gray hair, yellow-peach skin, blue eyes, & wearing glasses with black frames, gray Chinese shirt, blue pants, & black cotton shoes hiding behind one of the platforms*
Monkey Khan: Zonshen! We're here to help you!
Abigail: Are you alright?
Huckleberry: Chao-Chao?
Zonshen: Cold, hungry, and a little crispy on the edges. But otherwise fine. I came to make an offering to the Spirit, but it's gone wild . . .
Sonic: Hang on, Gramps. We'll get you back to the village and - *suddenly, we all heard a loud screech. Ken put me behind him as the Dark Gaia Phoenix landed on one of the platforms* Hold that thought. *he ran up to the Spirit & attacked it. it attacked back with fire from it's feet* Yow! Hot! Hot! Hot! *he picked up a big jug & filled it with water* *then he threw the jug at the Spirit*
The Spirit screeched in pain. As it did, I felt a pain in my heart, like I was feeling it's pain. Suddenly, Conquering Storm & her Raiju Clan jumped out from the bamboo thicket & surrounded us. I got out my hook swords. Then Sally, the Freedom Fighters, & the Shijin Warriors jumped out, ready to attack*
Sally: Freedom Fighters! Shijin Warriors! Now!
Cream: Cheese! Get 'em!
While we battled the Legion Ninjas, Sonic battled the corrupted Spirit. Just then, Conquering Storm kicked Dulcy in the face as she was releasing an ice breath at two ninjas*
Sally, Abigail, & Monkey Khan: Dulcy!
Bride of Conquering Storm: What do you think you're doing? Your paltry team is no match for mine, even with the aid of the King of the Free People! The Princess's shallow tactic bought you a moment of surprise, nothing more! You can't win this battle!
Dulcy: Well, duh. That's your problem, Stormy. Not every attack is meant to be a crushing assault. Sometimes, it's just a diversion!
Bride of Conquering Storm: What are you . . .?
Chip had flown in front of the corrupted Spirit & his green necklace began to glow*
Chip: Come back to the light, O Servant of Gaia. Burn away the impurity. Fly righteously once more.
The Phoenix flashed a light & turned gold, red, green, & purple*
Sonic: Yo. It's on our side now.
Bride of Conquering Storm: Everyone! Fall back to base!
Monkey Khan: Oh, you're not talking about the base on top of the mountain, I hope?
Abigail: 'Cause it's about to be remodeled . . . Into ashes
The Spirit flew away towards the mountain, but not before giving me a look that seemed to say "Thank you". Conquering Storm turned to Dulcy*
Bride of Conquering Storm: Congratulations on your first victory. It will be your last.
She threw a smoke bomb on the ground & disappeared with her Legion Ninjas*
Dulcy: Yeah, well, you . . . Um . . . Argh! These post-battle one-liners are hard!
Sally hugged her*
Sally: You'll get the hang of it.
We made it back to the village, where Zonshen gave us the key*
Zonshen: For saving my life, for saving the Spirit, and for saving our world, I thank you. Take my Gaia Key in good health.
Abigail: Thank you, Zonshen.
Sonic: Well, that's it, folks! The last Gaia Key! Let's go fix the planet!
Cream, Cinder, Huck, Cheese, & Chip danced with joy*
Sally: I've got some thoughts on that. But for now, it's good to know at least part of the world is in good hands.
Dulcy: Thanks, Sal. That means a lot. To all of us.
Monkey Khan: Especially, if it means we'll be protecting the world together, right Abigail?
I rolled my eyes. If Shadow ever heard that, he'd probably hang Ken upside by his tail & use him for target practice with his Chaos Spears*
(Julie-Su's POV)
It was now night & me, Knuckles, Amy, Mighty, & Ray were outside the Dark Egg Legion base*
Ray*looking through binoculars* This gate is no good, either. There's a sniper tower on the other side.
Mighty: We've got to get in there. I'll handle it. That is, I'd Ms. Rose will please lend me her hammer for a moment?
Amy: Such a gentleman! Sonic could learn a thing or two from you.
She gave him her hammer & he threw it at the tower, destroying it. Then he & Knuckles punched through the wall*
Knuckles: Knock-knock!
Mighty: It's Mighty and Knuckles! *to Ray* Keep low, Li'l Buddy! Stick to the plan. Nothing too fancy!
Ray: Right! See you in a minute!
Knuckles: Let's make some noise!
Julie-Su: And break their toys!
We made our way inside the base, battling Legionnaires & Badniks*
Knuckles: These guys aren't as rough as the Echidna Legionnaires I've fought!
Julie-Su: Clearly, the Grandmaster isn't doing any fighting training around here.
Mighty: Against your average citizen? Sure, they're fearsome. We're in a whole different league, Knux.
Knuckles: Heh! Listen to you! Sonic was right. You have gone soft!
Suddenly, Mighty grabbed the gun of a buff Legionnaire, crushing it. Then he punched him through the wall, creating a giant hole*
Mighty: "Soft," huh?
Knuckles: When this is all over, you me, sparring match, my place.
Mighty: Sounds like fun.
Julie-Su: There they are!
Mighty: Let's grab 'em and -
Suddenly, our path was blocked by a lightning bolt. Then we saw Grandmaster Thunderbird the Chinchilla*
Thunderbolt: Those belong to Lord Eggman!
Mighty: Hold on! She's dangerous!
Knuckles: So? Reinforcements are on the way. Stick to the plan. I've got this.
He jumped in with his fist raised. Then Ray came in through the skylight*
Ray: Mighty! 'Su!
Julie-Su: Perfect timing!
Ray: We're all clear out here! Make it quick, Mighty!
Mighty picked up the pod that was holding the Master Emerald shards*
Mighty: Okay . . . So we traveled x-numbers of kilometers . . . Moss's place is north of here . . . Calm night, no wind . . . So throw it . . . Like this!
He threw it out of the skylight. Meanwhile, Thunderbolt released a blast of electricity*
Julie-Su: You good, hon?
Knuckles: Yeah, I kinda wish I had more time to properly fight her.
Just then, the door opened & more Badniks & Legionnaires
Thunderbolt: Too bad! You're totally surrounded! And once I get two three of you, I'll find those shards again! I'll zap the entire jungle and shift through the ashes of I have to!
Mighty made a time-out symbol with his hands*
Mighty: That's your answer to everything. And while you're all here, your command center is woefully understaffed.
Just then, we heard a loud whistle through the loudspeaker & then the Badniks started going bonkers, attacking the Legionnaires*
Thunderbolt: Form up! After them! I said - Argh!
That's when we decided to make our getaway*
Amy: Are we all set?
Knuckles: Worked like a charmy! Now let's get out of here and retrieve those shards!
We made it back to Moss's house. Knuckles took out all the shards we had gathered*
Knuckles: Thanks again, guys.
Ray: Always happy to help!
Mighty: With those two, you're up to five shards. How many do you need?
Julie-Su: Seven.
Knuckles: But Sonic and the others already have all the Chaos Emeralds and Gaia Keys. If they fix the world before I can restore the Master Emerald . . .
Amy: Hey! Don't lose your obnox . . . Charming stubbornness now! Now that these are accounted for, let's check for the rest!
She played her Mystic Melody*

Amy: Uh . . .
Julie-Su: Now what?
Amy: I . . . I think they might be in Northamer. Like . . . A bunch of them. Somehow.
Mighty: We'd come with you. But I want to be here to protect Moss in case Thunderbolt has a tantrum.
Moss: I doubt she knows where we live, but I appreciate it all the sweat, Mighty. We should travel light, anyway.
