Episode 395: Setting the World on its Buneary
It started out just like any typical morning. Kairi was making breakfast, and Sora was helping her out by peeling some potatoes just so Kairi would make some hash browns. As the rest of the group was sleep, there was one who had woken up other than Sora and Kairi.
"WHAT?! NO WAY!" Dawn shouted loud enough for a flock of Starly to fly away, frightened. Everyone heard Dawn's voice coming from inside the tent. The group and the Starly flock wasn't the only ones who heard it. A wild Buneary heard it, too, so it went out to investigate. "It's a disaster!" Some of the Starly flew overhead.
"Dawn, what's wrong?" Ash asked.
"Don't you dare come in here! My hair is a complete mess and nobody sees it!" Dawn exclaimed from inside the tent.
"Aw, come on, Dawn. That's what hats are for," Lucas said.
"Well, isn't that a typical male response? Unlike you in your who-cares-how-I-look world, I take pride in my appearance, get it?" Dawn asked from inside. Speaking of inside, we see Dawn with a bedhead.
"Dawn, everyone gets a case of bedhead from time to time. It's a natural thing," Lucas said.
"Who asked you what's natural?" Dawn asked.
"You didn't have this problem, did you, May?" Elaine asked.
"No. And if I did, I would be making it as much as a big deal as her," May said.
"Eevee," Maple said.
"And that, Croagunk, is a typical morning for this family. Give it time and you'll eventually get used to it," Sora said.
"Cro, Cro, Cro, Cro," Croagunk croaked.
Inside the tent, Dawn tried to get her hair in place, but unfortunately, it was unable to comply with her since it sprang back up. Piplup just laughed.
"Oh, what do I do with this mess? It's like I slept on my head," Dawn said. Piplup laughed at Dawn. At first, she looked at her partner with an annoyed expression, but an idea popped in her head. "Hey, that's it!" Piplup looked at her, puzzled.
"Pip?" Piplup asked, puzzled.
"Piplup! Use Bubble Beam!" Dawn ordered.
Outside the tent, they saw the tent get some lumps from the inside. They then saw the bubbles come out of the tent.
"Hey, what's going on in there?" Brendan asked.
"You think it's to fix Dawn's bedhead?" Sora asked.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Pikachu," Volt said.
The potato Sora was peeling slipped out of his hand and landed right next to Croagunk.
"Think you can grab that for me?" Sora asked. Croagunk looked right at Sora. "I'm still peeling that potato, so if it's not too much trouble. Please?" Croagunk picked it up and then threw it very hard. "I didn't tell you to throw it like a baseball! I meant for you to hand it back to me!"
"Catch that spud!" Chase said. Lucas bumped into Dawn whom just stepped out after changing from her pajamas and fixing up her hair. Pikachu jumped up in the air and caught the potato in the air. The wild Buneary was awestruck by how Pikachu caught the potato and came down, doing a roll in the air. The Rabbit Pokémon was awestruck by what it saw. Pikachu lands on the ground. Xipak, Celeste, Marill, Volt, and Maple gave Pikachu a perfect 10 for that catch. The wild Buneary looked at Pikachu in an attracted way.
"Nice catch, Pikachu," Sora said.
"It was a super catch," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Lucas, would you watch you're going?" Dawn asked.
"Oh, sorry, Dawn," Lucas apologized.
"What was with that Bubble Beam in the tent?" Ethan asked.
"Check it out," Dawn said, showing her friends her shiny hair. "You see, I just had the worst pillow head when I woke up this morning, but Piplup and I sure fixed that."
"Piplup," Piplup said.
"I have to say, it's a very creative way to use Bubble Beam," Xion said.
"Yeah, much better than having to wait to take a bath," Leaf said.
"Yeah, I wish I thought of that," May said.
"Not only that, but it'll work for boys and girls, so why don't you all give it a whirl? Might even work especially on Sora," Dawn said.
"Sorry, Dawn, but I like my spiky hair the way it is," Sora said. Just then, Aipom took Lucas's hat from his head.
"Oh, not again! Aipom, how many times do I have to tell you not to take my hat off my head like that? Come back here!" Lucas shouted, running after the Long Tail Pokémon. Pikachu goes off after Aipom, too. He dashed right at the monkey-like Pokémon and snatched the hat off her head. The hat ended up being on his head, making him unable to see where he was going. Pikachu ends up on the middle of the road. Hearing the sound of an engine screeching, Pikachu turned to see Officer Jenny on her motorcycle. Pikachu had no time to get out of the way, so the wild Buneary bounced from its hiding spot and grabbed Pikachu. The whole group was surprised when they saw Pikachu being rescued by the wild Rabbit Pokémon. Sora was especially relieved he wasn't hurt.
"Pikachu, what a relief you're okay, buddy," Sora said, taking the hat from his partner. He hands it back to Lucas. "Here you go, Lucas."
"Thanks, Sora," Lucas said. He puts his hat back on. "And I'm sorry for what almost happened."
"Don't worry about it. I know you never meant for it to happen," Sora said.
"Hey, it's a Buneary!" Dawn said, taking out her Rotom Phone.
"How adorable," May cooed as Dawn scanned it.
Buneary, the Rabbit Pokémon
Type: Normal
When sensing danger, it extends both its ears as an alert. And when cold, it curls up and goes to sleep.
"Buneary," the Buneary said.
"Wow, that was awesome, the way you scooped up Pikachu like that," Dawn said.
"How fortunate you were around," Lyra said.
"Marill," Marill said.
"Pika, Pika," Pikachu said. Buneary then bashfully took its fur and hid her face with it. She hopped off in the opposite direction.
"I guess she's just shy," Kairi said. She hopped right into a tree.
"Yeah, so shy, she didn't even look where she was going," Ash said.
"Oh, I really wanted to catch it," Dawn pouted. Officer Jenny approached the group and right to Pikachu.
"You really need to more careful. It really doesn't matter where you are, you always need to look left and right before crossing the road," Officer Jenny lectured Pikachu.
"We're very sorry, Officer Jenny," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu apologized.
"It's so great of you to help us out just like before," Dawn said.
"Huh? Do I know you?" Officer Jenny asked.
"It's me. I'm that girl you warned about monsters back near Sandgem Town," Dawn said.
"Monsters? Oh, I see. I'm sorry, but I'm not the one who told you about any monsters," Officer Jenny said.
"She's right, Dawn. She's a different Jenny than the one you already met," Kris said.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Dawn asked.
"Would you mind telling us your relationship with the Officer Jenny in Sandgem Town?" Wes asked.
"Sure. The Officer Jenny you met back there was actually my sister," Officer Jenny said.
"Sister?" Dawn asked.
"Are you and she identical twins?" Lucas asked.
"No, she's from a family of police officers and they're all named Jenny. So, they're either sisters or cousins, much like the Nurse Joys we met from the other regions we've already been to," Sora said.
"It was weird for me, too, but it's true," May said.
"I said it before, but it's quite a family tree," Brendan said.
"Ah, you've already met so many of my other relatives, didn't you? But since I'm here, I could ask if you've seen these people?" Officer Jenny asked, holding up a security photo. It shows two men robbing some technical equipment.
"Can't say that we have," Roxas said.
"Pikachu," Xipak said.
"Last night, two men broke into a factory up ahead and stole a lot of machine parts. This picture was taken by one of the factory's surveillance cameras," Officer Jenny said.
"Well, we didn't see those guys, but we'll keep our eyes opened for them when we do," Chase said.
"And you'll be the first person to know," Lyra said.
"Pikachu," Volt said.
"Marill," Marill said.
"I appreciate your help. I'll be on my way. Have a good day," Officer Jenny said, getting back on her motorcycle and rode off.
Meanwhile, the men from the photo had taken the machine parts and they stole and used it to build a machine. One is a fat man wearing a dark green turtleneck, black pants, and white shoes. The other man is rather skinny. He wore a white shirt, blue jeans and a green cap with blue sneakers.
"Uh, tell me why we're doing this again," the skinny man said.
"If you had bothered to pay attention for more than five seconds, I wouldn't have to explain it to you again. It's because we're in search for some of those Alpha Pokémon sighting that's gotten everyone talking," the fat man said.
"Ah, so we can be filthy, sticking rich, right?" The skinny man asked.
"No, you moron! It's not about getting rich, it's about making us an beatable team! With a Pokémon like that, we can become the most powerful Pokémon Trainers in all of Sinnoh. With an Alpha Pokémon under our belts, we can use it to beat the Gym Leaders and earn all eight of our Gym Badges. And after that, we use the Alpha Pokémon to win the Sinnoh Pokémon League, and that's only the first step," the fat said.
"It is?" The skinny asked.
"After that, we challenge the Sinnoh Elite Four and then the Champion. Once we become the new Champions of Sinnoh, we can take the entire Sinnoh region by storm!" The fat man said.
"Wow, Zeke, that's actually a good plan! But um, why do we need these machine parts?" The skinny man asked.
"It's just so we can build a robot and use it to capture the Alpha Pokémon, duh! Not only that, but it'll be our shield, so it won't be able to beat us that easily, Sheldon. Once the Alpha Pokémon is soften up, then we catch it," Zeke said.
"Oh! But isn't it cheating using a robot to battle against a Pokémon?" Sheldon asked.
"Hey, if you're gonna make an omelet, you have to break eggs," Zeke said.
"Um, do you take ketchup with your omelet?" Sheldon asked.
"Did your parents drop you on your head, Sheldon?" Zeke asked.
"All the time; and always on accident," Sheldon said.
"Forget I asked," Zeke said as he facepalmed.
Back with the group, they were enjoying their breakfast.
"These hash browns are tasty," Michael said.
"Best I have ever eaten," May said.
"Yeah, but I would like to catch that Buneary," Lucas said.
"But Lucas, if we see that Buneary again, I wanna catch her," Dawn said.
"Yeah, you already caught a Starly, a Turtwig, an Aipom, and a Shinx, Lucas. You should give Dawn a chance," Sora said.
"Sora is right. Dawn needs to catch more Pokémon before the Jubilife City Pokémon Contest starts," Sorrel said.
"So, Dawn, the next catch is yours. And no one argues about it. Anybody good?" Sora asked.
"Yes," everyone said. Lucas was reluctant about it and he did want Dawn to catch another Pokémon before they reached Jubilife City. Croagunk then stopped eating.
"Sora, what's wrong with your Croagunk?" Lyra asked.
"Huh?" Sora asked, looking at Croagunk.
"Is Croagunk getting sick?" Ash asked.
"Croagunk looks fine to me. He just likes to eat at his own pace," Sora said. Croagunk stood up and started to head for a nearby shrubbery. "Where are you going?" Croagunk jabs the bush, forcing the wild Buneary out of hiding.
"Hey, it's that Buneary from eariler," Elaine said.
"Okay, Dawn, it's your chance!" Roxas said.
"Right! Let's go, Piplup!" Dawn said.
"Piplup!" Piplup said.
"I guess the dishes will have to wait," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
With that said, the rest of the group followed Dawn and Piplup.
"Use Bubble Beam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup's Bubble Beam gets in Buneary's path.
"That was fast," Lucas said.
"You think that's fast! Then watch this! This is a race I can't afford to lose! Since I had more than my share of goofs, I figured it's time ffor me to win one. No one's stopping me! Not even the Heartless are getting in the way!" Dawn said.
"If you feel that way, then go for it," Lucas said.
"Thanks! You'll have the honor of witnessing my very first catch! Piplup! Come at Buneary with Peck!" Dawn ordered. Piplup rushed at Buneary with Peck, but Buneary dodged.
"That was a great dodge," Ethan said.
"Okay, Piplup! Use Bubble Beam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup fired Bubble Beam, but Buneary fired Ice Beam, freezing the bubbles. The bubbles then disintegrate with sparkles. "But how?"
"That was Ice Beam!" Chase said.
"That Buneary is no pushover," Wes said. Buneary came at Piplup.
"Hurry, Piplup! Dodge it!" Dawn called out. Buneary lands a Dizzy Punch on the Penguin Pokémon.
"Too late," Ash said.
"Oh, my poor little Piplup," Dawn said. Piplup stood up, feeling dizzy from Dizzy Punch.
"That Piplup just used Dizzy Punch," Roxas said.
"Dizzy Punch?" Lucas asked.
"It's a move that leaves the opponent confused when it hits," Roxas said.
"Pikachu," Xipak said. Buneary does a twirl and winks right at Pikachu, making him flinch.
"What do I do now?" Dawn asked.
"First, chill out," Elaine said.
"And call Piplup back in his Pokéball. That'll shake off the confusion," Xion said.
"Right!" Dawn said, taking out Piplup's Pokéball. Buneary jumped high in the air and then came down and struck Piplup, making him crash into Dawn. "Pipluo, no!"
"Piplup just got bounced with Bounce!" Sora said.
"She just came down before Dawn had a chance to call him back," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Oh, everything I try to do just goes and backfires on me," Dawn said.
"Hey, don't give up yet, Dawn. You just gotta try again," Lucas said.
"It's okay, Lucas. You go ahead and give it your best shot," Dawn said. Before Lucas could battle Buneary, she started to walk over to Pikachu, pulling up her fur like before.
"Hey, what's wrong with Buneary?" Elaine asked.
"I think I know what's wrong with Buneary. I think Buneary has a crush on Pikachu," May said.
"What?" The group all said, putting two and two together.
"Man, it's usually me that the girls goes nuts over," Sora said. Angel then huffed her cheeks in jealousy.
"Oh, no you don't! That's my man!" - Pikachu subtitle. Buneary fired an Ice Beam, freezing the group. Angel then rushed at Buneary with Swift, but she bats the stars with Dizzy Punch. Angel then came at Buneary with a Headbutt, but Buneary gave Angel the boot with Bounce. She goes flying right into a tree.
Up at a nearby tree, a Hoothoot is sleeping soundly, but its sleep is interrupted when Angel came crashing in the branch. Hoothoot angrily pecked on Angel's head.
"Angel!" - Pikachu subtitle. Buneary grabbed Pikachu by the paws and goes on a twirl like she was dancing with him. "Hey, what you do you think you're doing?! Stop doing that!" - Pikachu subtitle.
Further down, Zeke and Sheldon had gotten their machine done and it was ready to go.
"Got it done," Sheldon said.
"Great! Now, we can find that Alpha Pokémon and catch it," Zeke said.
"Uh, how would know an Alpha Pokémon when he saw it?" Sheldon asked. Zeke groaned in annoyed sigh.
"I already told you. The Alpha Pokémon is a tad bigger than it's supposed to be and it has glowing red eyes, that's how we'll know when we see it! And we'll use this Pokéball on it and we'll be smooth sailing from here on out," Zeke said.
"Cool. But which one of us gets to catch it?" Sheldon asked.
"Me, of course. It was because it was my idea. And this is the only Pokéball we've got! Now, stop asking dumb questions and keep looking," Zeke said.
"On it, buddy," Sheldon said as he saw Pikachu and Buneary go by them. "Hey, a Pikachu and a Buneary!"
"Never mind the small fries, Sheldon. It's the Alpha Pokémon we're after," Zeke said.
"Right! We're looking for that Alpha Pokémon to catch," Sheldon said. Just then, a large Pokémon did come by. It is a bipedal, rabbit-like Pokémon with a dark brown fur and a short, round tail. It has pink eyes with black markings on the inner edge, long tufts of cream-colored fur above its eyes, and a small, pink nose. Similar tufts of fluffy cream-colored fur cover its wrists, lower legs, and the ends of its long ears. Its eyes began to give off a red glow. "Hey, Zeke, look! Doesn't that Lopunny look to be a bit too tall?"
"Sheldon, that's it! That's gotta be the Alpha Pokémon that had everybody talking! Let's nab it before it gets away!" Zeke said.
"Right! Activating net!" Sheldon said, pushing a button, sending out a net to capture the Lopunny, but the rabbit-like Pokémon just jumped out of the way and delivered a strong kick on the machine. "That was a mean kick. And not so very nice neither."
"That was a Jump Kick! Try a punch!" Zeke said.
"One punch, coming up!" Sheldon said, pushing a button. The machine tried to punch Lopunny, but the Alpha Pokémon came at the machine and gave it a series of beatings. Its fist emits fire and lands a hit. "That was a Fire Punch! Here's one right back at you!" He prepared a another punch as Lopunny gave the machine a powerful Thunder, shocking them both. They screamed as the machine explode and sent Zeke and Sheldon flying.
Over to Officer Jenny, they land right in front of Officer Jenny, making her a forceful stop.
"Well, well, just the twosome I was looking for," Officer Jenny said, making a smirk.
"Uh, is something wrong, officer?" Sheldon asked. Officer Jenny got up and slapped her handcuffs on the two men.
"You're both under arrest for breaking and entering and theft," Officer Jenny said.
"So, does that mean we're not catching that Alpha Pokémon after all?" Sheldon asked.
"Shut up, Sheldon," Zeke said.
Back with Angel, she headbutts Hoothoot and jumped off the tree and went after Pikachu and Buneary while Croagunk comes and found the group frozen in ice. The Toxic Mouth Pokémon gave the ice a Poison Jab, making it shatter.
"Man, that was cold," Chase said, sneezing.
"Thanks for getting us out of there. That Poison Jab was spot-on!" Sora said.
"And with one shot, no less," Sorrel said.
"But where did they go?" Brendan asked.
"Hopefully, not too far," Sorrel said.
Meanwhile, Buneary was still twirling with Pikachu.
"Stop! I'm getting dizzy from the twirling you're doing!" - Pikachu subtitle. Buneary nuzzles Pikachu when Angel had arrived.
"Now that we're alone, we can be together!" - Buneary subtitle.
"Not if I have anything to say, sister!" - Angel subtitle. Pikachu and Buneary saw Angel and she was giving the Rabbit Pokémon a death glare so intense, it would frighten even the most terrifying Pokémon. "Keep your paws off my man!" - Angel subtitle. Buneary glared right back at Angel.
"Who says he's yours?" - Buneary subtitle.
"I do!" - Angel subtitle.
"Angel, I want you to know it's not what it looks li-" Pikachu subtitle.
"Just who do you think you are, swooping in and try to sweep Pikachu off your feet, you hussy?!" - Angel subtitle.
"Who are you calling hussy, you skank?" - Buneary subtitle. She gave Angel a slap across the face. Angel returned the favor by slapping her back. Pikachu felt intimidated by seeing Angel and Buneary slapping each other.
"I knew human women can be scary when they're angry, but Pokémon females can be the same way." - Pikachu subtitle.
"Okay, enough of this! Eat this!" - Buneary subtitle. She fired Ice Beam at Angel, so the female Eevee dodged Buneary's Ice Beam and lands a hit with Quick Attack. Buneary came at Angel with Dizzy Punch, but Angel smacked her with Iron Tail.
The group heard the sounds of battling.
"You hear that?" Leaf asked.
"It's gotta be Buneary," Dawn said.
"And something else," Rui said.
"That sounds like Angel," Kairi said.
"How do you know, Kairi?" Dawn asked.
"I know it's Angel, because I recognize her cries anywhere," Kairi said.
"Well, let's go see," Xion said.
"Eevee," Celeste agreed.
With that said, they raced to the source of the sound and they did see Angel and Buneary battling each other.
"Look at them go," Ethan said.
"What are they fighting about?" Chase asked.
"Pika?" Volt asked.
"I seem to know. They're fighting over Pikachu," Kris said.
"It's really no contest, because Pikachu would choose Angel anyway," Sora said.
"Of course he would," Roxas agreed.
"Pikachu," Xipak said.
Angel and Buneary fired Ice Beam and Swift at each other.
"Angel, stop that, right now!" Kairi said. Buneary jumped up in the air and came down at Angel, so she dodged it and came at the Rabbit Pokémon with Headbutt. Angel lands a hit onto Buneary. Buneary then gave Angel a Dizzy Punch. They collide with each other. Kairi grabbed Angel. "That's enough, Angel!"
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"Kairi, I'll take it from here!" Dawn said, taking out her Pokéball and threw it. "Piplup! Spotlight!" Her Pokéball opened and Piplup came back out. "Okay, Piplup, this is our big chance!"
"Piplup!" Piplup said.
"Use Bubble Beam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup fired Bubble Beam right at the Rabbit Pokémon. Buneary jumped in the air again.
"Buneary is using Bounce again," Leaf said.
"And she's going to come down to land a hit like before," Rui said.
"Be ready, Piplup! Move!" Dawn called out. Piplup ran to dodge as Buneary came down. "You're doing great, Piplup!"
"Dawn's Piplup is actually doing better than the last time," May said.
"Sure is. Dawn is more determined than ever to catch Buneary," Leaf said.
"Go get her, Dawn!" Elaine said.
"Piplup! Use Bubble Beam!" Dawn ordered. Piplup fired Bubble Beam right at the Rabbit Pokémon, but she fired Ice Beam to block it. An explosion occurred between the two of them.
"Their powers are evenly matched," Roxas said.
"Pika!" Xipak said. Buneary came out with a Dizzy Punch.
"Watch out for that Dizzy Punch!" Lyra said.
"Marill!" Marill said.
"Dodge it first, then use Peck!" Dawn ordered. Piplup backed up to avoid Buneary's Dizzy Punch, so he pecked Buneary on the spot. Buneary rolled backwards. Piplup turned to Dawn, nodding. "Alright, Piplup! Here we go!" Dawn took out her Pokball and threw it. Buneary flowed inside and the Pokéball wobbled around and around. Stars swirled around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Dawn laughed as she picked up her Pokéball. "Alright! I just caught a Buneary!"
"Piplup, Pip!" Piplup said.
"It's awesome! I just made my very first catch! I caught us a brand new friend, Piplup," Dawn said.
"Piplup!" Piplup said.
"Congratulations, Dawn," Kris said.
"We knew you would do it," Rui said.
"Way to go," Xion said.
"You're officially MVP, Dawn!" Chase said.
"Yeah, you totally deserve it, Dawn," Lucas said.
"Thanks, Lucas. And everyone else. I gave it everything I had to catch this little one, and I owe it all to you," Dawn said.
"Piplup!" Piplup said.
What started out a bit messy has ended up being a perfect score thanks for Dawn as she has made her first catch despite a difficulty, so now Dawn has what she needs to enter the Jubelife City Pokémon Contest, so we can take comfort that her hard work has finally paid off. And we will see how Dawn will progress as we go on in the future.
