A/N: Shout out to my anonymous reviewer! Glad you liked it. More on Sergeant Damla Schultz now. ;)
Chapter 15
"Well given what you've described, I would say yes but I'd like to run some tests," Doctor Talib told the young Sergeant, once she described what had been going on with her. The three had gone into the doctor's infirmary office for some privacy.
"How long do those take?" Damla asked. She was sitting next to Elphaba on one side of the desk, while the doctor was behind the large heavy desk, seated in what looked like a very comfortable chair.
"Not long at all. Are you expected somewhere? Talib wondered.
"No. I'm not on duty until later," she told him. It was an overnight shift but luckily it was the only one she had on the schedule so far.
"She really shouldn't be on duty at all. She's not Gale Force but she's offered her services while she's here," Elphaba gave her a look.
"I want to be useful," Damla said. The green woman patted her on her shoulder.
"That's all well and good and I admire it, but let's get these done," the Royal Physician smiled. Damla nodded and Talib handed her a cup and told her the bathroom was down the hall.
"How accurate are these tests?" Elphaba asked him.
"Well, that's a bit of a problem. They can be helpful but could I say they have a one hundred percent accuracy rating?" He gave her a look.
"Gotcha. So, monitor her physical signs and symptoms to be sure. You don't think it's anything else right?" Elphaba wondered.
"I don't see how. Admittedly, our knowledge of the entire reproductive systems and processes is limited, but time has given us some good indicators. If there was something else going on, there'd be more symptoms and issues," Talib said.
"Here we go," Damla announced as she handed the doctor the cup. He promised to be back and that left the two ladies alone for a few minutes.
"We don't even know where we're going to live. We don't have a place. I can't have my baby living in a troop barrack," the Sergeant said.
"There is time to get things all settled if this is what's going on. Don't worry about that. In fact, don't worry about anything until after you talk to your husband. This has to be a joint venture or it isn't going to work," Elphaba told her.
"I know. I just spent a long time being my own cheerleader of sorts," Damla admitted.
"I know what that's like. While I know that the Vinkuns are more progressive than the Emerald City, I can't imagine being a female in the service has been easy," the green woman said.
"No. My parents are supportive but they aren't the ones going through basic training," the Sergeant smiled slightly.
"You have supportive parents and I think Fiyero's parents are quite invested as well," Elphaba winked. Damla chuckled.
"Put that on the list of things I never thought possible," she said.
"Same here. I worried they'd disown Fiyero when his mother noticed how close we were," Elphaba admitted.
"That's what you were worried about?" Damla asked.
"Truth be told I was more worried that the Council wouldn't believe me and believe Morrible's lies instead," she explained.
"Oh, that's a heck of a time for your other half's parents to find out what their son has been up to," Damla shook her head. Before Elphaba could answer, the office door opened and Doctor Talib came back in.
"I believe congratulations are in order young lady," he smiled at her. Elphaba was surprised when Damla grabbed her hand.
"Thank you, Doctor," she smiled.
"You are most welcome. Let me work up a list of dos and don'ts for you before you run away," Talib said.
"That would be much appreciated," Damla admitted.
"Where is young Timothy?" Elphaba wanted to know.
"He's on duty. Our shifts overlap unfortunately," she said.
"We'll see about that. I'm sure Fiyero can find someone to take your shift," the green woman told her.
