Chapter 15 Trust in Me
After walking several miles from Baloo, Bagheera, and all the other known animals of the jungle, Mowgli and Clarissa had been walking aimlessly in the jungle for a long time. The two walked by a waterfall while Mowgli picked up a few stones and threw them in the water while Clarissa had just followed behind him.
The two both felt terrible about themselves, and felt nothing but sadness and betrayal.
Mowgli couldn't believe that Baloo was going to take him to the man village and also couldn't believe that his closest friend had betrayed him like that. He thought he was going to stay in the jungle with Baloo forever, along with Clarissa, but after what he told him, Mowgli didn't even want to see Baloo or be his friend anymore, and felt so alone along with Clarissa.
The young girl didn't want to go to the man village ethier, but after learning about her past and what happened to her parents really made her realize why it was so important to go there and if she wanted protection from Shere Khan, she had no other choice.
But she couldn't tell that to Mowgli since he was more upset than ever right now and she just decided to walk with him in the middle of the jungle, where they hoped to get away from Shere Khan and everyone else.
As the two walked around the middle of the jungle, the two eventually made it to a tree and sat down as Clarissa sighed to herself. The two didn't know what to do and while Mowgli knew all he wanted to do was stay in the jungle, Clarissa tried to think of something to do and hoped that someone out there would provide her and Mowgli protection from Shere Khan before the tiger found them.
But as the two sat down on the jungle floor, a snake from above slithered its tail down towards the kids, looped it around their laps, and pulled them up towards the top as the two noticed they were going up.'
Once they were brought up the snake, the two kids recognized the snake as one of their old enemies, Kaa!
"Kaa!" Mowgli gasped after seeing the snake.
"It's you!" Clarissa said with realization.
"Yesss man-cubs, sssso nice to see you again," Kaa hissed while barely containing his excitement about having the two kids in his coils again, which is why he made a laugh as Clarissa gave the snake a glare.
"Oh, go away and leave us alone!" Mowgli said while trying to move the snake's coils off him.
"Yeah, Kaa. We know exactly what you're gonna do to us!" Clarissa said while trying to break free from the snake's coils as well, but Kaa looped them around her waist to prevent her from leaving.
"My, sssomone is feisssty!" Kaa said as Clarissa struggled to break free from the snake's coils, but Mowgli was able to make it out. "Let me look at you." Kaa slitherd over to the two kid's faces, where he gave off the same hypnosis eyes he gave to them the other night.
But this time, the two were able to resist and moved away before the snake could hypnosis them.
"You don't want me to look at you?" Kaa asked as Mowgli covered his eyes while Clarissa finally broke free from the snake's coils and looked away into another direction. "Then you look at me."
Kaa moved Mowgli and Clarissa's heads to face his eyes, but the two still resisted the memorizing colors.
"No, sir! I know what you're trying to do Kaa!" Mowgli said while moving away from the snake and trying to leave, but Kaa used his tail to grab Mowgli's foot to stop him.
"You do?" Kaa asked, pretending that the two kids didn't know what he was really trying to do to them.
"We darn right know what you're going to do to us! After all the things me and Mowgli have been through, we certainly learned never to trust you!" Clarissa snapped while pointing her finger in the snake's face while one of his coils wrapped around Clarissa's leg.
"You don't trust me?" Kaa asked with a mock of sadness.
"No," Mowgli answered while trying to remove his foot from Kaa's coils.
"Then there's nothing I can do to help you two," Kaa said while grabbing onto Mowgli's foot again, making the boy confused as to why the snake wanted to help him and his sister.
"You wanna help us?" Mowgli asked the snake, truly believing the snake wanted to help them.
"No, Mowgli, he's only saying that so he can hypnotize us again." Clarissa said while trying to walk over to her brother. But Kaa used his coils to grab the girl's arm and then used them to cover her mouth to prevent her from talking.
"Certainly," Kaa said from behind Mowgli, where the boy immediately turned around in fear and covered his eyes with his arms. "I can see to it that you and your sister never have to leave this jungle."
Clarissa finally pulled Kaa's coils off of her mouth. "Are you sure about that?" Clarissa asked, wondering if Kaa really was going to let them stay in the jungle.
"How could you do that?" Mowgli asked, also wondering if Kaa's intentions really were true.
"Hmm. Oh, I have my own subtle ways," Kaa said with a sinister smile while getting close to Mowgli's face, where the boy looked at him with concern and confusion while the snake just laughed. "But first, you and your sister must trust me."
Kaa motioned Mowgli to face his eyes, where he tried to hypnotize him again.
But Mowgli broke away from the snake and his coils. "I don't trust anyone anymore!" Mowgli said while walking away and leaving the snake along with Clarissa, who was trying to ignore the snake the whole time.
"Same, me and Mowgli have been through enough the last couple of days. I'm sick of all these other animals in the jungle and all we wanna do is be left alone!" Clarissa said as she began to walk away with Mowgli. But Kaa just wouldn't let them get away.
"I don't blame the both of you. But I'm not like those so-called fair weather friends of yours," Kaa said while slithering back over to the two kids and using his coils to cover both of their faces, including their eyes. "You can believe in me…"
Kaa losend his coils around Mowgli and Clarissa's eyes. The two then slowly removed the coils off their eyes and began to see the colorful spirals in Kaa's eyes.
This time, the two kids couldn't look away and their eyes soon matched Kaa's as he began to sing to them in a warm and soothing voice.
Trust in meeeee,
Just in meeeee,
Shut your eyes,
Trust in meeeee,
Kaa sang so soothingly as he backend the two kids forwards with his tail, loving how quickly they both fell under his hypnosis. Both kids smiled and followed the snake's tail before closing their eyes as they walked on a branch, listening to the song the snake was singing to them.
Kaa was enjoying the kid's mindless obedience so much that he almost forgot to stop them before they reached the end of the branch. Kaa used his tail to press against both the kid's foreheads just as they were stepping off the end.
"Hold still please" Kaa commanded before making a staircase with his coils for the kids to walk down before releasing them and letting them continue their journey.
You can sssssleep,
Safe and ssssound,
Mowgli and Clarissa were mindlessly walking down the steps, but Kaa made it towards them, having them walk on his long neck as he is making a loop, causing the two kids to walk upside down in the loop of coils.
Knowing I am around,
Mowgli and Clarissa slid down, and rested on the coils as Kaa rocked them like a hammock.
Slip into a sssilent sslumber,
Sssail on a ssilver misst,
Kaa then lifted their bodies up and bounced them on his coils, causing Mowgli to land on top of Clarissa before the snake bounced the both of them and caused them to land on the top of their heads.
Sssslowly but sssurely,
Your ssssencesss will cease to resist,
Kaa used the end of his tail to hold Mowgli and Clarissa upside down, where the two could be heard snoring. "You're snoring," Kaa said to the two kids.
"Sorry," Mowgli said as he and Clarissa began to stop snoring and Kaa continued to sing while giving a smile of satisfaction.
Trust in meeee,
Just in meeee,
As Kaa rested along a branch, he used his coils to let go of Mowgli and Clarissa and let the two kids slide into them as they closed their eyes, and fell fast asleep under Kaa's hypnosis.
The snake's plan had worked!
However, as the snake continued to sing to himself and admired his two new sleeping victims, Shere Khan had been walking around the jungle in hope of finding the two man-cubs until he heard the snake's singing from a distance.
Shut your eyes,
Trust in meeee,
After Kaa was done singing, Shere Khan had walked under where the snake was hiding the two man-cubs and pulled on his tail a few times, ruining the snake's moment of nearly devouring the two kids and also of him keeping the two man-cubs a secret.
I know a lot of people like the Kaa scenes in the Jungle Book, so I hope ya'll enjoy this chapter and this song, cuz I sure did writting it!
