Change of Plans
Leading Robin back to the tree, Gar showed him the hole he dug out and then he started down it. Catching his belt on a root, Gar saw Robin take some clippers out "Just unhook it from your belt man, no reason to kill the tree just to make your access easier. We won't be coming up this way in a hurry, so the roots won't cause but a moments delay."
Gar changed into his bat form, {I'm going to head down first and double-check the guards. There are only 5 awake right now with the other 15 sleeping plus 3 cooks. I can also get a look at how to send the people up the ramp. Do you want to head there first or take a group? I think I asked you before, but I didn't get a reply.}
{Go take a look and we can play it by ear for now.} Robin said.
Gar buzzed the poor guy's head just to make him flinch because he could and then made his way down.
Gar had to admit he was having a lot of fun messing with Robin. He wasn't a young and shallow youth but a tried-and-true soldier who had been fighting for quite some time. It was easy to see him as equal mentally. [I hope his mind doesn't go down the toilet whenever Devilbat is around like it did in the comics when Batman showed up. All Robin did at that point was what he was told, like a good little pawn.] It wasn't until many Robins after Dick that Batman realized he needed an equal to take over the mantel not a mini mouse with wings to do as he was told.
Flying back to the tent city, Gar saw something that would be very helpful. {Good news Robin, looks like Boss Biggis went out for a late-night snack. No Humvee and no one cooking so there is no way Biggis is here. I'll check how many guards are left.}
Taking a quick flight around the camp, Gar could see the five guards who were normally there to keep the camp in order. Heading over to the guards' tent, he peeked in and saw 12 guards and the three cooks all asleep. [So the other three guards must have escorted Biggis.]
Gar headed back out to think up a plan to make sure they could take the guards out without them shooting and placing the workforce in danger, but they couldn't knock them out because then later he would have to carry them out of there.
{You know Robin, I think we have been looking at this the wrong way. Instead of trying to save everyone by sneaking them past the guards, how about we make the guards just as anxious to leave as the forced workers?} Gar sent his thoughts out.
{What are you thinking Logan?} Robin asked.
{Well, I am a shapeshifter, and I can think of a good shape to make people not want to be near me. Just get ready to see a lot of running people come your way. Oh, you may also want to cover your ears, this may echo a bit.} Gar told Robin with some anticipation coloring his thoughts.
Gar quickly moved to the tent that April had gone into earlier. "Psst Hey April you awake?" Gar whispered.
"Logan, is that you?" He heard from the other side of the canvas.
"Yup, I'm just stopping by to tell you things are about to kick off. You may want to get a head start for the exit ramp. He he." Gar warned while laughing in anticipation.
She poked her head out of the tent and said, "Good luck, if you can't make them smile then make them scream and run."
When Gar saw her, he was a bit surprised to see a scar on her forehead that looked like a bullet wound and her pale white skin gave her hair a greenish look. She still had her scarf over her lower face, and Gar was in too big of a rush to get started with the plan to pay much attention.
"Just be safe April, I hope to see you again." He told her.
"Just look for the old lady with the biggest smile Logan, see you around." Her head disappeared back into her tent.
Gar went back to the area where the group had been digging, along the way Gar thought to himself, [No way that's Harley Quinn, she is too old, and Harley didn't have that scar. Has to just be an old homeless lady, she doesn't match any of the villains in Cannon for Batman that I remember. I hope I'm not wrong, not like I was an avid reader of the comic though. Guess I'll just play this one by ear.]
{Starting now.} Gar thought toward Robin, then he went to the wall in his head and thought Jurassic Park T…. No wait, Jurassic World Indominus Rex. 20ft (6 Meters) tall and 50ft (15 meters) long with longer arms than the T-rex and a much bigger mouth.
Gar breathed in deep and let it out a couple of times to get the best roar out, but Gar started laughing for a minute just imagining the panic about to ensue. [You have any idea what an Indominus Rex laugh sounds like? Well, I do, it sounds like you are starting the world's largest bulldozer, but the motor is just turning and not catching.]
Getting himself together, Gar took a deep breath, "RRRRROOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRR" he bellowed. Then after a solid minute, he jumped up and down a couple of times and the whole place rumbled. [Damn I better not do that much, don't want the ocean just on the other side of the wall to come pouring into this cavern. Time for another one to get them moving now that they are awake.]
Deep breath "RRRRRROOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR" Gar/Rex started slowly walking towards the camp. He heard a couple of pops and saw the two guards on this side of the camp shooting at him with their rifles, but he didn't feel a thing as the bullets just impacted and fell. Gar snorted at them and they dropped their guns and screamed all the way through camp as they headed for the exit ramp.
That provides an excellent source of inspiration for anyone that had poked their heads out at the noise. Everyone started for the exit, and not in an orderly manner. Gar stayed back enough that no one would feel so scared that they trampled anyone, but he still made lots of noise.
With all the fun going on, Gar decided to try his vocals and started roaring in tune to Riot from TDG. [I wonder if anyone will realize?]
Robin POV
After that damn bat dive-bombed his head, Robin continued crawling down the hole, once he saw the cavern wall, he climbed down it until his feet are on the ground. Looking around he sees a huge cavern that honestly scares him. As big as it is, the pressure pushing on the outside walls from the ocean must be enormous. [Tuck away anything that goes boom!] he told himself.
Sticking close to the wall in his darkened outfit, Robin snuck around the camp past the Airstream and towards the exit ramp. [Matt is going to kill me when he hears I dropped both our names to Logan. Guess I'll deal with that later. Still, I haven't had this much fun in a long time. Lately, it's all school and 'The Mission', I know what we do is serious stuff but that's no reason to suck the fun out of beating up bad guys and flying through the streets on tightwires. You can't tell me the Devilbat mobile and the plane looks so cool for 'The Mission'.]
[Well, school is nice also with the girl I met after graduating high school early and starting college. Barbra Gordon, the commissioner's daughter. So hot, and I like talking to her. However, I think she is paying me back for always rushing off when Robin has a mission by doing the same thing lately. Seems like one of us is always running off for some reason. Maybe I should ask Matt if it's ok to tell her about me. No, that will never happen.]
[The other bad part is Starfire, what do I tell her if I get serious with Barbra? The best thing about Star is that I have no secrets from her, so she is easy to talk to. I wonder if aliens know about polygamy. There is a thought, I'll joke with Bab's and get a feel for her stance on it. Then there is this new Devilgirl, man that outfit is tight in ALL the right spots. I have to do some serious coding in my head to keep my body from reacting when she is around.]
[Matt is right, my attention is torn between Gotham, Young Justice League, The Titans, and school. Should I just take my bachelor's in computer sciences and graduate? Go back to school later if I want to. I have enough ideas about civilian software that will make me more than enough money so I'm not reliant on Matt anymore.]
Once Robin reached the ramp door he tells himself, [Ok Dick focus, there are a lot of people in need of our attention right now.]
