Lazy Afternoons
"Peter, I'm telling you. I did these calculations myself. They're perfect."
"Gwen, I don't mean to be offensive, but I'm pretty sure you're off by a factor of 2."
"A factor of 2? Are you insane?!"
A rare occasion for sure, but Peter finally found time to meet up with his lab partner, Gwen Stacy. However, with how things were going, he might be wishing he found a way to miss this one.
"Gwen. Seriously. Chill. I'm just saying there's a tiny little mistake. It's no biggie. We haven't even run the PCR yet."
"I dare you, Peter Parker, to find any mistakes in my calculations."
"….Sigh You forgot that we have to run this twice. Because our target mutation could appear on either allele."
"Wait what?!"
"Yea…"
"There's no way. How could I miss that?! Are you sure."
"Yes. I'm sure."
"O-Oh…" she looked away blushing and embarrassed.
"That's why we need to double all ingredients and run the protocol twice."
"R-right…"
"Hey, it's all good," Peter raised his hands trying to ease the situation, "I get it. This project's a big part of our grade and Dr. Morbius has been pretty strict on grading. It's just a simple mistake. Anyone could have made it."
"A simple mistake?...A SIMPLE MISTAKE?!" she growled, "I don't make simple mistakes, Parker! UGH!"
With a huff, Gwen gathered her things and stormed off leaving a bewildered Peter by the table.
"Was it something I said?"
After the unfortunate meeting of lab partners, Peter headed home to his apartment. A quick shower later, he was on his bed ready to relax. Well, sorta relax. He needed to catch up on his Linux programming assignment, so instead of just napping, Peter had his textbook on hand. But oddly he was kinda excited. Reading for fun as he would call it, much to MJ's chagrin.
"I swear the syntax in all this is so inconsistent. You wrap up if statements with fi but you close loops with just done? And when the hell do we use semicolons or not?"
*CLICK CLICK CLICK*
His thoughts were interrupted when the locks to his door were turned. In came Mary Jane who honestly had seen better days. Her hair was just pulled into a messy ponytail. Her eyes were droopy clearly due to lack of sleep (although Peter might be responsible for that 😉). Overall, she just looked exhausted after clearly a long day. To her, Mary Jane might consider her current appearance just lazy and icky, but passable. Peter smiled as she still looked so beautiful in his eyes. Carelessly, she tossed her backpack to the side and shed Peter's jacket she once again "borrowed." Then, she unbuttoned her jeans and wiggled her hips so that they fell to her ankles. Now clad in just a tank top and panties, she climbed into bed without saying a word. Slowly she crawled up to the headboard and just collapsed. Right as her head hit the pillow, she scooted towards Peter's torso and hugged it. Pulling the covers over her legs was just the finishing touch. Smiling, Peter simply patted her head with his free hand with the textbook still in the other.
"Hey," he smiled.
"Mmmm," she mumbled into his side.
"Long day?"
"Mmm hmm," she nodded.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Hnnn," she shook her head.
"Ok."
After a few beats, the two simply sat in comfortable bliss. Peter stroked her hair soothing her to sleep as he continued with his "reading for pleasure." MJ meanwhile simply basked in the moment. She just wanted a restful nap, and Peter was performing his proper boyfriend duties of being her pillow/heater. However…
"Hnnn more snuggles," she mumbled.
"Huh?"
"Hnnn put your book down. I want to cuddle."
"Heh. MJ, I've got some reading to do."
"Bleh. You can do that later. Come here and let me hold you."
"In a bit. I'm almost finished with this chapter," he picked up her hand and kissed her knuckles.
"There is no way a textbook about," she briefly looked up, "…I don't even know what that's about. But it can't be more interesting than your hot, half-naked girlfriend laying on top of you."
"I dunno. My girlfriend is being a little…..bratty."
"PETER PARKER!" MJ shot up to look him in the eye, "I am NOT being bratty."
"Your adorable pout says otherwise," he smirked.
Smiling impishly, Mary Jane knocked the book out of his hands and onto the floor. She hooked her arms around his neck and pulled him down not the bed. Peter meanwhile hugged her waist on the way down. Laughter filled the tiny studio apartment as the happy couple rolled back and forth playfully wrestling on the bed. Things went a little too far as they accidentally rolled right off the bed taking the covers with them. As usual, Peter found a way to make sure he was the one who landed on the floor. He hugged her tightly as they were now securely wrapped together by the thick blanket.
"Hehe see! Isn't this more fun?" she kissed his nose.
"I guess. You got what you wanted anyway," he rolled his eyes.
"Oh the hardships you endure, Mr. Parker. You should be lucky we're in this position right now."
"Yea yea, hot girlfriend on top. I get the picture."
"Exactly! And now we're wrapped up like a little love burrito. Soooo warm," she smiled resting her head on his chest.
"Looks like you got what you wanted….you little brat."
"PETERRRRRR!"
Just as Mary Jane was about to move her arms to thump his chest with her fist, she discovered a peculiar situation.
"Uhhh Peter?"
"Hmm?"
"I can't move my arms…"
"Huh? Umm wait hold on….I can't move mine either."
"A-are we stuck?"
Evidently, they rolled a little too much and too tightly. The covers really did wrap them up like a warm burrito leaving them completely flushed against each other.
"Look what you did, MJ!" Peter began teasing, "Now we're stuck in this burrito!"
"What I did!? You started it!"
"I wasn't the one who wrestled me down!"
"Yea well, if you had just snuggled with me instead of studying, I wouldn't have needed to wrestle you down!"
"Gasp! A college student trying to study? I must be crazy!"
"For the first time today, we agree! You are crazy for not wanting a piece of this!" she nodded downwards trying to gesture to herself.
"Of what? You mean this?" he smirked devilishly.
Before he even moved, MJ blushed furiously. She knew that look. It was a look of desire, one that Peter very rarely used outside of moments between just him and her. She bit her lip knowing that somehow, even when they were both trapped and wrapped in a blanket sushi roll, Peter had a trick up his sleeve.
"EEP!" she giggled.
Despite very restricted motion, Peter still managed to move his hands around just enough to cup her ass and squeeze.
"Damn, Red. A lacy one today?" Peter teased hooking his fingers under the bands of her underwear, "Were you hoping to get lucky?"
"Tiger, when I'm with you, I always feel lucky."
"Like hitting the jackpot."
"Exactly."
Leaning forward, the two pressed their lips together for a little sweet kiss. It was a quick peck, but one full of love all the same.
"Y'know, as much as I love being close to you like this, I'd rather we be back on the bed. And maybe not so tightly wrapped up," she whispered.
"I concur."
With a big push, Peter unrolled them out of the trap. With swift and deft hands, he picked her up like a bride and placed her onto the bed. Before MJ could even blink, Peter laid down right next to her and the blanket fell right into place on top of them.
"Better?" he smiled.
"Much," she cupped his face and pulled him in for another kiss, "But you absolutely could've gotten us out at any time, couldn't you?"
"Yea. But I like being close to you."
Finally comfortable, the pair wrapped themselves in each other's arms and held one another closely. MJ nuzzled her face into Peter's neck while he rested his nose on the top of her head. Like two puzzle pieces fitting neatly together, Peter and MJ hugged each other never wanting to let go. Soon, fatigue took the both of them as they drifted off to sleep.
Hours later, they had shifted slightly so that Peter was on his back and MJ rested her head on his chest. She always found it soothing the gentle rise as Peter breathed in and the slight fall as he breathed out. Sometimes, she could even hear his heartbeat. It was almost like white noise to her. Hearing the smooth ba-dump relaxed her and usually lulled her to sleep. Peter meanwhile continued to gently rub her back, further adding to her comfort. However, it took her a second to realize that Peter was only using one hand. Shifting again, MJ wrapped her leg around him and pulled herself up so that she could whisper into his neck again.
"You've to be kidding me…" she kissed his neck.
"I wasn't kidding, Red. I have a project due soon."
"Hehehehe," she chuckled, "Did you at least get some rest?"
"Mmm hmm. You?"
"The best," she kissed his neck again.
"Do you want to talk about how your day went?" he asked putting his book down on the floor.
"Ugh…."
"Sorry."
"No. I do kinda want to vent anyway."
"Ok," he nodded wrapping his arms around her.
"I'm just really stressed about the upcoming audition. I know it's only one play and it's my first. But Professor Muir is a huge Broadway producer. Impressing him could springboard my career! I just want everything to be perfect."
"Hmm."
"I've heard chatter here and there about the monologues people have picked. And I'm just frustrated that I haven't found one that fits Eliza Doolittle perfectly. I dunno. All these thoughts kinda made me check out mentally today."
"I understand," he kissed the top of her head, "Sounds like a lot."
"Yea."
"Can I help in any way?"
"I dunno. What do you think I should use as my monologue?"
"Hmm."
"And don't say the sand speech Anakin said on Naboo."
"I wasn't going to," he patted her head.
"Or the back and forth between Anakin and Obi-wan on Mustafar."
"Nope not that one."
"Or the Maarva speech from Andor."
"Ok whoa hold on. Andor is full of amazing speeches!"
"Peterrr! I am not using Star Wars to audition for a big shot Broadway producer!"
"Hehehe. I wasn't going to suggest any of those anyway. You're just cute when you pout."
"Hnnn."
"Although that speech Luthen made to the spy is soooo chilling."
"Peterrrr!"
"Alright alright. Besides, my suggestion would be to change the way you're selecting a monologue."
"Huh?"
"You keep saying you want the monologue to personify Eliza Doolittle. When really, you should be finding a monologue that best personifies you, Mary Jane Watson."
"O-oh…"
"Like yea sure you gotta show that you fit the character. But I personally think you need to show who you are as well. You're MJ. You're spontaneous. You're bold. You're witty. But you're also soft and warm. And caring. You need something that will showcase you. Something that will let the world know you are versatile and just simply amazing."
"I-I see."
"Personally, I think if you pick something based on that, Professor Muir would have to be an idiot not to cast you."
"You always know what to say, don't you Tiger?" she smiled rubbing her thumb against his cheek.
"Not really. I just speak from my heart. With you anyway," he smiled back leaning into her palm.
"Thank you. I appreciate it."
She meant to lean closer into his chest again, but…
"Oh shit! Tiger, I'm so sorry. I made this all about me. How was your day?" she worriedly asked.
"Haha it's ok, MJ. Really. You were stressing out and I wanted to help. No biggie."
"But still. I want to know how your day went."
"Bah. Nothing much happened. I did however confirm that my lab partner hates me though."
"You finally met up with him?"
"Yea," he nodded not hearing that MJ called the partner a him, "We just couldn't agree on a procedure or the right calculations. That's just been kinda annoying."
"Baby, I'm sorry," she hugged him tighter.
"It's ok. Gotta work with the hand you're dealt."
"Hmm. No Spider-Manning today?"
"Oh that stuff is really boring."
"Peter, I want to hear about it. I want to hear about you," she laid down on his chest.
"Uhh well nothing world ending. A guy robbed a bodega and tried to run. A bike was stolen but I wasn't sure where to put it, so I just wrote a note and hoped someone would pick it up. An old lady came up to me asking how to get from Starbucks to a really specific antiques shop. She was really nice. She bought me a churro!"
"Zzzz…."
"MJ?"
"Zzzz…"
Peter smiled and kissed her head again. He knew it was nothing against him as Mary Jane just wanted to hear him talk. Reaching down to the floor, he picked up his textbook and continued reading. Despite falling asleep, MJ still unconsciously shifted and stirred. Without even thinking or knowing, she kissed his neck yet again with a tiny dribble of drool falling on his collarbone. Doing his best to soothe her, he rubbed her back and gently lulled her back to sleep.
"No baby no. I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough," she mumbled.
"Heh. And it gets everywhere."
AN: Hey everyone! I know it's been quite some time since I've revisited the Spidey corner of the fanfic-verse!
I do apologize for those who've been waiting for updates on this fic. As I've said before, it's most certainly not dead. I just need to balance out my other fics and irl work and whatnot. It's a short chapter today filled with just ooey gooey mindless fluff honestly. It's starting to get colder where I am, so wrapping up in a warm blanket in bed just feels nice and cozy. See you all real soon! Best wishes.
