Chapter 14: Impressions
Mount Justice; November 22nd, 09:42 EST
The sun shines brightly over the mountain and the seagulls' squawk. Though all of that is unseen and unheard within the closed mountain base.
Black Canary and Green Arrow, or rather Dinah and Oliver since they're in civilian clothes, step out of the Zeta tube and into the training room. "We came as soon as we got your message." Dinah says calmly. "What's the problem?" Oliver asks Batman, Red Tornado, and Martian Manhunter. "There's something you both need to see." Batman informs them.
On the screen, Black Canary is watching as Joshua was sparring with Conner. The two of them exchange a few blows before Conner hit Joshua with an uppercut, knocking him to the ground.
Canary walked up to the two, putting her right hand on her hip. "Your improving Conner." She said in a sultry tone. Joshua gets up with a grunt. "Good job bud. I'm gonna go get something to eat, see you guys later." Joshua said and walked out of the room leaving Canary and Conner alone.
"He's right you know, you did good, I think you deserve a reward." Canary said with an almost teasing tone before putting her arms around his neck and kissing him.
Dinah and Oliver's eyes go wide as they gasp, they can only watch in stunned silence. Oliver turns to his wife. "Dinah!?" "Freeze playback." Dinah commands, and it does, then turns to Oliver. "That never happened!" An unbothered Batman speaks up. "You need to keep watching. Play."
The two pull apart on screen, Conner smiling while Canary laughs before her form suddenly shifts into that of M'gann.
"Freeze playback." Batman commands the computer. Oliver busted out laughing in a matter of seconds, wiping a tear from his eye. Dinah rounded on him. "Don't you dare laugh!" she snaps. "She and he and…" she can't quite put it into words and she cuts herself off with a slight growl. "Oliver, this is not funny." "No." He agrees rapidly, he stopped laughing just as quickly, then clears his throat and turns serious. "No, of course it's not."
J'onn steps up. "Please understand, on Mars, this is a common game. My people all shape-shift, but also read minds so no one is ever misled. And I am certain Conner knew he was with M'gann from the very beginning." "We're not on Mars, J'onn." Dinah says, turning towards him with a glare. "No." He agrees slowly, dropping his gaze. "But my niece does not understand things are different on Earth." "Then I'll make her understand." Dinah says lowly.
In her room, M'gann- or rather Megan- lays on her bed, watching a projection.
The instrumental music echoes down as someone comes down the stairs, dressed in a bright blue miniskirt and a white cap-sleeved top with a red M over her heart and white gloves on.
The most shocking thing is that she looks exactly like Megan. "Ugh. Hello, Megan!" she sounds nearly identical to M'gann and she moves in the same way M'gann does when she says that.
The studio audience laughed. There is a knock at M'gann's door. "M'gann?" Dinah asks.
M'gann jumped. "Just a sec." she quickly shuts off the projector, moving so she was sitting on her bed while her skin shifts to green. "Okay, come in."
Dinah, on the other side of the closed door, takes a deep breath as she walked in with a stern look on her face.
(Small time skip)
"So you can see that among humans, that game could be very hurtful." Dinah finishes, crossing her arms.
M'gann turns away from her. "I'm sorry." She says, looking away completely as she repeats the sentiment. "I'm really sorry." Dinah puts her hand on M'gann's shoulder. "I'm not upset… anymore." She tells her. "But please, M'gann from now on, just be yourself." Her lips quirk up in a small smile. M'gann pushes her hand away. "This is myself!" She says too quickly, startling Canary. Then M'gann crosses her arms over her chest. "This is who I am." She says lower, quieter.
The PA beeps. "Robin, Kid Flash, Legend, Superboy, and Miss Martian, report for mission briefing." Batman said plainly. Dinah turns towards it, startled, and Miss Martian stands up quickly.
In the Mission Room, Batman has a picture of a middle-aged man and a map of two countries on HoloScreens. "Rumaan Haarjavti is the democratically elected President of Qurac." A news video, on GBS, pops up in front of the two images.
The text at the bottom reads 'President Rumaan Haarjavti and Bruce Wayne' the two men shake hands as cameras flash and the location in the red bar shows that this was in the Democratic Palace, in Dhabar, the capital of Qurac. "Haarjavti has been praised as a fair, wise leader. A humanitarian."
"Sure." Wally drags out the word not-so quietly, before raising his hand to direct it towards Robin. "And friend of Bruce Wayne's." looking far too smug.
The video closes and Batman continues talking. "But five days ago, Haarjavti allied himself with the dictator of the neighboring nation of Bialya, Queen Bee." Her picture pops beside Haarjavti's and the map expands a little to show Bialya in full. Superboy scoffs. "Not a fan." Legend hums lowly.
"Few are." Batman agrees. "But Haarjavti suddenly backs Queen Bee's baseless claim that Qurac and Bialya were one nation in ancient times." The map shifts to show only Bialya's flag over both countries with no border. "And has announced the countries will reunify in two days at a ceremony in Qurac."
A video plays, Haarjavti stands in front of a row of armed militia, and a mural of Queen Bee. "After the ceremony, I will step down as President so that our rightful monarch, Queen Bee, may rule." There's just enough crowd noise to show that they're unhappy.
A second video plays right after it. This one in the Royal Palace in Al-Qawiyah, the capital of Bialya. "I appreciate President Haarjavti for unifying our peoples and I will gladly come to Qurac to be crowned sole leader of our nation."
"And the Quraci's are okay with this?" Wally questions incredulously. "Hardly." Batman states, another video showing up once again in Dhabar, this is of the people of the country on the streets, some holding signs. But most of them hold candles. The camera is focused on a young boy holding a candle in one hand while he holds his very-pregnant mother's hand in the other. "They're well aware of the brutality of Queen Bee's regime."
The images switch to a picture of the same crowd, showing off more signs and people. The center of this one is a young woman holding a candle clearly shouting something. "But Haarjavti has censored the press." the picture changes to a shot of armed forces decked out in riot gear. "Silenced all legitimate protest." The picture changes to show troops moving through with smoke coming up while three cars are stopped in a way that shows that they weren't prepared to. "And invited the Bialyan military into his country to enforce martial law."
"Queen Bee has to be controlling Haarjavti." Robin states. "Doesn't she have the power to enthrall most men?"
"And some women." Batman confirms. "But not long-distance. And we have confirmation she hasn't left Bialya. Something else is at work here." His eyes narrow behind the cowl. "Find out what." The team stands ready. "Robin, you're team leader."
Wally's eyes go wide before he smiles brightly. It takes Robin a moment to process but when he does his own eyes go wide and his mouth drops open. Legend slapped Robin on the back and smiled. "Promotion. Sweet." Wally raises his hand, waiting for the return high five. Robin steps forward. "Me? What about Aqualad?"
"Busy helping Aquaman." Batman says bluntly. "You're the next logical choice. "Great." Robin sighs. "Dude, you totally left me hanging." Wally whines, Legend high fived him making him perk up. The Bioship drops out of low orbit, moving over the naturally empty space.
Qurac; November 22nd, 23:56 UTC2
"We're right above the Quraci Bialyan border." Robin informs. Kid Flash looks out the window. "A border the Bialyan's are in the process of ignoring."
Tanks run over the barbed wire fence., heading towards a herd of animals. Spooking them when they get too close. Foot soldiers follow behind the tanks with flashlights and guns.
"No opposition." Superboy relays. "Guess Haarjavti really is in bed with Bialya." Robin looks up from his HoloGlove. "Wouldn't expect opposition here." Superboy turns. "It's an animal sanctuary."
"The Logan Animal Sanctuary?" Miss M reads off his screen, her voice getting excited. Robin turns, his confusion showing not only in his posture but in his voice too "You've heard of it?" Legend asked.
With his goggles on, Kid can see right through the Bioship walls and to the ground below. "Guys, tanks have caused a stampede." He follows the direction they're heading and two people with an injured animal unaware. "With civilians in harm's way."
Now next to Kid Flash, Superboy uses his enhanced sight to get another look. "I see them. A woman and a small boy."
"We have to help them." Miss M says urgently. Robin frowns. "We're way off mission here." He voices aloud then thinks for a moment before turning back to them. "Deploy. But stealth mode." Miss M nods. "If the Bialyan's know we hit them, this'll becomes an international incident."
A beam from the Bioship hits one of the leading tanks. Taking out one tread and causing it to veer into the tank beside it.
The soldiers scramble out of both tanks, all on guard for where the shot came from. Still in camouflage mode, the Bioship moves past them.
A disk sticks In the dirt near three soldiers, letting out a white gas that has them coughing before they each get knocked away by Kid Flash.
Another shot from the Bioship goes off a few yards from some of the running soldiers. Another directs them over the crushed fence line.
The animals are still stampeding towards the civilians. The woman gasps before reaching over and pulling the boy to her chest.
Superboy and Legend drop in front of them with a yell forming two small crater, Legend grabbed the leader by the horns and forced it to the ground, trying his best not to hurt it. Superboy punched the ground, causing a shockwave that made the remaining animals all go around the woman, the boy.
The injured animal that the civilians were trying to help goy to its feet, and the young boy turned in his mother's arm, throwing out an arm. "Oryx!" but the creature still runs perpendicularly into the stampede. Suddenly it's raised above the stampede, unharmed. "Whoa." The boy mumbles.
"Are you both all right?" Robin speaks up from behind them when KF, holding the soldiers' guns, comes to a stop beside him. Letting Robin get a good look at both of them. The woman's hair is auburn while her son's hair is a shade brighter than hers, they both share a light smattering of freckles, pale skin tone, and blue eyes.
Kid Flash tosses the guns and Robin stands up at his full height as KF pulls his goggles up. The boy's eyes go wide before he turns to the woman. "Mom? Mom!" She turns to him. "We were just saved by Robin and Kid Flash!"
"Well, Superboy, Legend, and Miss Martian helped too." Kid muses, gesturing to Superboy and Legend as they walked up to them.
The animal that they were taking care of is gently guided back down to the ground, "Oryx!" the boy shouting excitedly and ran up to hug it.
Miss Martian drops behind Kid Flash, Legend, and Superboy while remaining invisible. We diverted the Bialyan's around the sanctuary. You should be safe now." Robin informs them both.
"Yeah, coast is clear, Miss M. You can de-camo now." Kid says, not quite sure where she is, but he could hear her drop down near him.
While still invisible she tugs on her hood before taking it down and turning visible, tucking her hair out of her hood. "H-hi." She stutters with a small smile. The boy brightens Instantly, looking super excited.
"You may have made things worse." The mother says sadly. "Bialyan border crossings are like a way of life here. Usually, they wreck a few fences and move on." She crosses her arms. "Engaging them might have made us a target."
"Mom." He whines, while Oryx lets out his own noise of displeasure. "Uncool." She sighs. "I'm sorry, I should thank you." She steps to the side and puts her hand on the boy's shoulder. "This is my son, Garfield. I'm-"
"Marie Logan!" Miss M cuts in excitedly, nearly laughing. "I can't believe I'm actually meeting you in person." She continues despite Superboy and Legend now looking back and forth between themselves, they shared a very confused look. "I've, uh, admired your stance on animal rights for years." She stumbles over her words a little but uses large hand gestures anyway.
"You've only been on Earth for six months." Superboy points out though the link. Miss M outwardly panics for a moment before turning away and blushing brightly.
The wildebeest that Legend took down wobbles towards them and Marie runs to it quickly. "The Oryx is sick, and I think you injured this wildebeest."
"Uh… I'm really sorry? I tried not to." Legend offers. "I suppose it was unavoidable." Marie sighs. "But both need to go to our clinic."
Miss M stands in front of the group, beside Garfield, her hands up in front of her chest. "The boys can do that. You and I can, uh-" She pauses for a moment thinking, "Fix your fences."
"That's not exactly our-" Robin starts. "Robin?" Miss M turns to him and begs. Meanwhile, Garfield grabs his mom's jacket. "Please, Mom?" Both sigh and let out a short "Fine." Both cheer. "Yes!"
The sun comes up over the mostly flat land while the boys head from the barn to the house.
A few leaves fall from the tree that they're walking under, Superboy looks up just before a high screech can be heard. A small monkey drops down out of the tree, lands on Superboy's shoulder, causing him to gasp before hopping onto Wally to torment him.
"Hey! Get it off!" Wally yelps but the monkey runs down his arm and stealing his bar before finally stopping screeching and jumping to Garfield's shirt.
Garfield and Legend laughs as the monkey climbs up Garfield shirt. "It's okay. Meet Monkey." It stops on his shoulder and starts eating Wally's protein bar.
Superboy pouts and looks away. "Good name, but I hate monkeys." He is suddenly hit in the head by Wally's protein bar. He growls, only to have Monkey holding tight to Garfield's shirt and screeching at him in return. Legend laughs even harder, clutching his sides.
Kid and Robin start to laugh with Legend. "Looks like Monkey hates Superboy." Robin teases. "Dude, be glad he only threw a protein bar." Kid says, pulling Superboy's annoyed look up from Robin's turned back. Legend patted Superboy on the back, getting the annoyed look turned on him.
As Garfield leads them into the open-concept house he heads to the back of the long room, letting Kid Flash and Robin take the two armchairs. Superboy and Legend moves to the other side of the coffee table, near the arm of the couch but Superboy chose not to sit down.
"So pretty weird about Miss Martian and my mom, huh?" Garfield asks, hands on his hips.
"What do you mean?" Superboy asks as he crosses his arms. "I mean she looks exactly like her." Garfield says sternly. "You know, except green."
"She does?" Wally asks. "Well, duh, especially back when Mom was a TV star on "Hello, Megan!"." Garfield says, unbothered by how Monkey is trying to eat his shirt.
"Wait, 'Hello, Megan' is a TV show?" Kid asks, confused. "I just thought it was something she said." Robin admits, turning back towards KF.
"Yeah, on the TV show." Garfield huffs. "Way before we were born. Only one season." Monkey jumps off his shoulder as he gestures to his handheld. "You can't even find it online." He looks embarrassed as he looks at the TV cabinet and the VHS tapes in it. "I know Mom has a tape somewhere."
Garfield pulls out a tape, which has 'Hello Megan Pilot' written on it. 'Hello, Megan!" The pilot episode'. He says proudly, blowing the dust off the tape.
"Whoa, you still have VHS?" Kid comments when Garfield puts it in and grabs the remote. "Where's your eight-track?"
"Wait!" Superboy and Legend bark as they turned away from the TV, glaring. Then back to Robin and Kid Flash. "Aircraft, headed this way." Legend said seriously.
The other three stand up quickly, Kid Flash, Legend and Superboy run out but Robin turns to the boy. "Gar, stay put." He orders before leaving as well.
Gar stares with a wide, dumbfounded expression. Superboy and Legend run out of the house, while Robin and Kid Flash stay on the porch as Marie and Miss M head back towards the house.
"What is it?" Miss M asks. Then the two of them heard the engines. Turning towards the sound, there are three drones flying towards them.
The gunfire Is nearly immediate and Miss M turns towards Marie, taking her to the ground and covering her. But neither of them are hit as the bullets bounce off of Superboy and Legend.
When it stops, they both stand up, Marie looking at the two clones with panic. "Where's my son?"
"I told him to stay inside." Robin replies, but Marie just looked horrified. "He's eight, he doesn't do orders." Marie says sternly. Just as the doors to the barn open from the inside.
"Mom!" they all turn to the source of the shout. Garfield having pushed the doors open, the wildebeest and the Oryx being let out. "It's okay, I got the animals out!"
The rapid gunfire returns, drawing his attention to it, Legend runs towards the boy to try and save him, the shots kick up dirt before one hits the large tank on the outside of the barn and it explodes instantly, destroying the barn and sending Gar flying into Legends arms.
"Garfield!" Marie shouts, held back by Superboy. Miss M takes off, flying to where Garfield and Legend went flying. Catching them with her telekinesis.
Looking down at the boy in Legends arms, whose clothes are ripped all along his front and he already has bruising on his neck and face. Gar lets out a weak groan as his head lulls for side to side.
Miss M slowly descends and lowers them to the ground. Garfield groans as the three drones circle back around. Miss M and Superboy take off instantly. Legend stood up with Garfield still in his arms and walks over to Marie and Robin. Marie immediately ran to Legend to check on her son, she then turned to Robin. "I told you there'd be consequences." She hisses.
"Always." He looks down to compose himself before meeting her with a serious look. "Let's just get him inside." The targeting system only gets one look at Superboy before he punches it and it explodes.
Miss M remained floating, her eyes glow green. She moves her hands quickly and the two remaining drones crash into each other. Before flying back down.
There are blood spots leading down the hall to where Garfield is laying on the bed, the E.K.G beeping away. His head is wrapped, an IV stand is already set up, and the rest of his body is covered by either his t-shirt or the blanket while Marie uses her stethoscope to check him out, having put glasses on at some point as well.
Kid Flash shows up in the doorway. "He's in shock. He needs a blood transfusion now." She stands up and looks at Robin. "Are any of you O negative?" Robin pulls up his HoloGlove but shortly lets out a "No."
"Sorry." KF says from the doorway. "Neither am I." Marie gripes. "It's the hardest to match. I kept a supply in the clinic. Kid steps into the room "I can run him to the nearest hospital."
"The nearest hospital with a blood supply is half an hour away at your top speed." Robin looks back down at the map he has pulled up. "Longer by Bioship."
"He doesn't have that much time." Marie says just barely keeping herself from getting hysterical. "What's Superboy's and Legend's blood type?"
"Their both aliens." Robin informs, anger getting into his words as it wears on him too. "And Miss Martian-"
"Might be able to help." She interjects from the hall, getting all of their attention in an instant. "My shapeshifting occurs at the cellular level." She continues as she walks into the room. "I think I can morph my blood to match his."
"Please, try." Marie begs, griping Miss M tightly. Miss M puts a hand to her head. "I'll need to concentrate." Then looks back over her shoulder at Marie. "No distractions."
Marie turns to the boys. "Out, all of you, out." Once Robin leaves the room Marie slams the door shut. Looking worriedly at Miss M.
Miss M reaches out, wiping some of the blood falling from Garfield's nose with her glove. She stares at it as her eyes glow green.
Inside her body, her blood morphs and shifts red blood cells latching on to the green inside her. Some of it turns a deep red as well. Inside her bloodstream, the larger cells and the walls- all of which are a dull, dark red color, looking nearly washed out and grey get overrun by a vibrant green color before turning pure red.
Suddenly Miss Martian's eyes are glowing red instead of green. "I'm ready." She informs Marie.
Superboy listens in from the hallway but is suddenly pulled away from the silence in the room as Robin grips his hair and his voice turns stressed. "And on top of all this, Haarjavti steps down tomorrow subjecting all of Qurac to this danger." He runs his hands through his hair as he sits up straight, turning to Wally. "KF, can you find a news station?"
"Sure. Which remote is it?" as he messes with the three he's holding in his hands. The TV clicks on and goes grainy for a moment before a school bell rings and 'Hello, Megan!' appears in the center of the screen.
Hello, Megan. Is sang by a chorus of voice, while the title is on screen, starting opening for the show. The black background gives way to a school front shot as kids leave the front door. School and boys and parents too. Superboy's attention suddenly snaps to the TV.
Two young girls- one with a very familiar look, M'gann in her human form, and the other a brunette with amber eyes in white cap sleeved t-shirts with a red M on the left breast and blue skirts, walk down the stairs, clearly chatting despite the lack of sound. Hold back the chuckle Miss You know who. Starring Marie Logan is written over the shot in standard white font.
She stumbles and falls over the railing of the stairs, her loose papers going everywhere, but she's caught in the arms of a boy with long black hair and pale blue eyes- wearing a long sleeve shirt that is mostly dark grey, but is a burnt orange from the collar to the sleeve seams, and to his collar bones, and a white necklace tight to his neck- as he walks on the grass. When he catches her the two share a smile. As she shows off her confusion with both her hands, both the one he can see and the one behind his head.
Paul Sloane is now written on the bottom third of the screen. Who? Is sang as a long undertone by feminine voices the main voice singing: Hello, Megan.
Superboy walks into the room during the intro song, looking intensely at the screen, catching Robin's attention as he walks past. The Boy Wonder stands up, his attention now on the screen as well.
Kid and Robin exchange confused looks. The boys can only watch the screen dumbly. Hahahaha. Hello, Megan. "Maybe it's a coincidence." Superboy offers.
The scene opens with a woman in a blue dress dusting her couch in the living room. "Mom, I'm going to the library to study." Marie's character says as she runs down the stairs.
"But didn't you invite a certain someone to study here?" her mom asks. The doorbell rings. "Hello, Megan!" 'Megan' says, bopping her head with the heel of her hand.
The audience laughs as she descends the stairs. Quieting as she opens the door. They clap as the boy from the intro is shown to be the one outside.
"Superboy!" she says brightly, running out of the house and hugging him. The audience cheers. "I thought you'd never get here." She teases. The audience laughs.
Superboy, pointedly, looks away. "Oh yeah, pure coincidence." Wally whispers to Robin, using his hand to cover his mouth try and keep the clones from hearing him, forgetting them at they both have super hearing.
"It's done." All four boys startle and turn to the source, but M'gann doesn't notice as her focus is solidly on the floor. Even missing how Wally accidentally tosses the remote in the air and Robin's panicked looks between KF and M'gann. "All we can do now is wait."
When Wally catches it, he frantically starts hitting buttons to get it to go away. When it turns grainy Wally chances a glance over his shoulder, unaware that he actually got a channel until "My fellow Quracis…" M'gann perks up. "Is that Haarjavti?"
"Queen Bee's rule is a gift to Qurac." Haarjavti says. "Hey, that guy in back." Superboy says suddenly. "I know him." Robin uses his HoloGlove to zoom in on the video and get a good look.
"It's Psimon." M'gann realizes. "The psychic we fought last time we were in Bialya. He was working for Queen Bee then. He must be controlling Haarjavti for her now.
Wally face palms. "I remember the headache from when he brain-blasted us." He groans. "We have to get Haarjavti away from him." Robin says, closing his Holo as he narrows his eyes.
The door to the room squeaks as it open. "I think it worked. Garfield's stable." Marie says, getting the Team's attention. "Good. Because we have our mission." Robin informs.
Dhabar; November 23rd, 22:11 UTC2
Haarjavti's office is dark with no lights on this late at night, despite the number of Bialyan soldiers outside the perimeter of the area. Yet, Haarjavti sits, staring blankly out the window from his desk chair.
A swivel fish-eye cam scopes out the room from between the ceiling before sliding away. "Haarjavti's alone." Robin informs before he, Kid Flash, Legend, and Superboy drop out of a ceiling tile. All four of them landing nearly silently, Robin facing Haarjavti's desk, while KF, Legend, and Superboy face the two doors in and out of the room.
Miss Martian remains in camouflage mode and floating over their heads, watching the room as a whole as Robin heads towards and around the desk.
Robin comes to a stop before Haarjavti, turns towards him. "Where's my daughter?" He questions, clearly still strongly under Psimon's mind control. He groans, moving for the first time as he brings his fingers to the bridge of his nose. "Where's Psimon?"
"Forget him." Robin says shortly. "Let's get you out of here." The doors slam open and Bialyan soldiers decked out in full-body armor and holding alien weapons charge into the room. Outnumbering them easily.
Finally, someone wearing a Bialyan military uniform, but no weapon. "Well, well, American Heroes, here to assassinate the President." Miss Martian drops silently behind the general and another nearby soldier completely unnoticed. "Such a shame we arrived too late to stop them."
"Those are Apokaliptan weapons." Superboy says tersely. "Which they'll use to kill Haarjavti, we get blamed and Queen Bee gets to rule Qurac. Form up around the President." Robin confirms. Miss Martian's attention snaps outside the room. "I've found Psimon!"
"Wait." Robin said trying to stop her, but she was already leaving. "I'll get her." Superboy and Legend says together and turn to charge. "No!" Robin says quickly, stopping Superboy short by grabbing his wrist while Legend ran after Miss M. "The mission is Haarjavti, let Legend handle it." Superboy growls and sighed.
M'gann flies through the palace before coming to a theatre room, landing in the lane between the rows of seats with only a slight click of her boots. She's slammed back, into the stairs into the room, into Legend, and out of her camouflage by a psychic wave.
Looking up she sees Psimon walking in front of the stage. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Am I the only one to learn anything from our previous encounter?" He taunts the two, heading up the aisle where M'gann and Legend were trying to get up and on to their feet.
"You didn't think that maybe if you could sense me, that I could sense you too?" M'gann gets to her feet with an angry and defensive look but stays silent, Legend got to his aswell. "Or that this time, I'd be ready to use your greatest fear against you?"
M'gann stumbles on her feet before falling to her knees with a groan, Legend doing the same. "Psimon says, show me who, or rather what, you really are." Psimon drops his hood and lets his mental waves come out at full strength now showing off his clear skull.
M'gann gasps, eyes going wide before clutching her head. "No. No. No!" She chants falling to her elbows as well. "This is who I am!" "M-Miss Martian!" Legend stuttered, struggling to stay conscious.
Despite her words, her fingers start changing shape, and as she groans her face morphs to almost look like an ill-fitting horror prosthetic. She let out a Physic wave to knock out Legend Before her body cracks open down her spine and her form is overtaken by a larger one that is white with red rather than green. It let's out a high pitched screech before it morphs into a yell at a more normal pitch.
In Haarjavti's office, all the Bialyan soldiers are unconscious and knocked around the room. KF and Superboy drop the last two while Robin puts his remaining tools back in his belt. At Haarjavti's side is a beautiful young woman with a mark under her left eye. "Thank you for saving my father." She tells the boys. "We will take care of him now."
"M'gann, Legend, we're coming." Superboy broadcasts as the three of them run down the halls.
They just make it to one of the side entrances to the theater before clutching their heads in pain. Caught right in Psimon's line of sight. They all then fall unconscious.
Psimon faces forwards again. "Psimon says smartly done." He claps sarcastically. "Brain-blasting your own team. I had no idea you'd go to such lengths to hide your true self from your good friends. Well, actually, I did. But you needn't have bothered, it's being recorded for posterity." He gestures to a grouping of screens that show several different shots of M'gann's true form.
"No!" M'gann shouts, sending her own psychic waves at Psimon. The waves hit a Psychic wall that Psimon has in front of him, defusing them with ease. "Ah-ah-ah." Psimon tisked and waved his finger. "I didn't say Psimon says." The barrier disappears, dispersing M'gann's attack and leaving her open. She stares, stunned, before it all disappears in a bright flash.
In the open sky, a bust suddenly turns into a familiar M'gann, in her uniform though all black with a white belt, blue cape, and the red X on her chest. She screams before crashing into the ground.
She pushes herself onto her elbows but was still on her knees as she looks around the desert landscape before pushing herself to her feet and walking a bit as she looks around even more.
She blinks and suddenly Psimon is in front of her. "Come now, we both know that's not who you really are. Must you even lie to yourself within your own mind?"
"It's not a lie! This is who I am!" she shouts. A beam comes out of her forehead. It is still not enough as Psimon has a black shield up that blocks M'gann's beam.
From the dust that the impact causes the dust blows back, showing off a lighter, softer sand. "Wow. And they say I'm pathological." Psimon muses.
M'gann shoots a short burst at Psimon, but instead of simply dissipating her shot his shield turns red and jagged before hitting her. She goes flying, past familiar locations that are jumbled in the air or on the dunes. M'gann just barely catches her breath before Simon is flying before her.
"Off our game, are we?" He taunts. "Let's dig a little deeper, find out what we're really afraid of, hmm?" Suddenly black expands from his forehead, swallowing M'gann in a matter of moments.
M'gann screams. Her white form is back and she's surrounded by nothing but overwhelming blackness.
The Team, even including Zatanna, stares at her in fear and distrust before few gasps come out. Artemis cringes back. "Get away!" Kid Flash shouts. "Well, of course, your friends and teammates shrink from you in fear." There's a red flash from behind M'gann and when she turns Black Canary, Batman, and Red Tornado are larger than life and stare down at her. "You should have told us the truth." Canary seethes. "I don't see how we can trust you now." Batman continues. "Then you're kicked off the pep squad." The three turn around and walk away, not seeing M'gann tentatively reach out.
"I am sorry M'gann." suddenly a large form of J'onn's head appears behind her, "There is no place for you on Earth now." He said before he corroded away and she's back in the desert.
"Oh, and banished to Mars too." She looks around at the Martian landscape before she's enveloped in blackness once again. "Yet even that's not the worst, is it?"
Superboy and Legend appears before her, not even looking her way. "No, please, stop." M'gann begs, breathlessly.
As the two turn, they're bathed in red light. "Love you?" Superboy questions darkly. "I can't even look at you." He said before walking away. Tears start to form in M'gann's eyes as she looked to Legend.
"I trusted you, I called you my sister." He paused before he turned away. "How could I consider you family when you can't even be honest with me."
M'gann falls to her knees crying as Superboy and Legend walked away and faded out of existence rather than simply walking off. For a tense second M'gann's alone before Simon appears. "Oh, what you wouldn't do to prevent that now, right?
M'gann perks up. "That's right." The world around them starts shaking and M'gann stands up.
Psimon puts on a tense smile but looks worried. "Now, now my pretty, I know you don't want to do anything you'll regret."
M'gann's eyes are glowing red. "You don't know me at all!" suddenly a more concentrated beam shoots from M'gann's forehead and hits Psimon in the chest.
He looks stunned as it suddenly is actually hitting him in and tearing his clothes as it expands. Psimon screams as he's fully enveloped in the light.
Superboy groans as he tries to open his eyes. "Superboy?" M'gann asks curiously, and through his heavy lids he can make out M'gann's green skin. "You okay?" his eyes open fully as she smiles.
Legend groans as he sits up and clutches his head. Superboy, Robin and Kid Flash are close behind him. Behind them are all shattered TV screens. "And there's the headache." KF groans. Robin rubs his own head as he stands up. "Psimon?"
"He brain-blasted you. I stopped him." M'gann says simply, then she looks to another part of the room, there's broken glass, chairs, and scattered wood. Where Simon lays on top of the pile, eyes blank but open, and his mouth relaxes a little where drool escapes one corner.
In the daylight, there are photographers, news crews, and the Quarci military in front of the Palace, all circling around Queen Bee. "What do you mean the President won't see me?" she demands. "He invited me!"
"Not of my free will. No!" Haarjavti shouts from a hallway archway. "But now that I am free of your minion's thrall… the Quraci people will never suffer your tyrannical rule!".
GBS is broadcasting it as well, and the Team watches it in Haarjavti's office. "Mark me, Haarjavti, you will suffer for this. Quraci will be mine."
They all turn and Queen Bee simply walks into the room. As the door shuts her body shifts and M'gann's normal form takes Queen Bee's place.
"Sorry you had to lie to everyone like that." Robin apologizes before anyone else can say anything, stepping forwards enough to be in the center of the room. "But I couldn't think of any other way to convince the public Queen Bee was behind this."
Kid Flash bumps his fist into Robin's shoulder. "Dude, saving a country. Pretty big win for your first turn as Leader." Robin huffs a hollow laugh. "Yeah, thanks." He says lowly, still looking sad.
"And I assure you, the Wayne Foundation is here to do whatever it can to help you and your people rebuild Quraci." Bruce says, shaking Haarjavti's hand in front of the palace.
Marie turns off the news in her living room where the Team watches it. "Gee, Bruce Wayne sure got here fast." KF taunts Robin. "Almost like he knew-" Robin elbows him in the stomach.
"Don't you have a souvenir to collect or something?" Robin makes it look casual as he puts both hands behind his head and leans back in the chair. Smirking at Kid Flash.
"Hello, Megan!" Kid mimics the motion that they now know the origin of before he zips over to the TV cabinet and holds it in front of M'gann's face. "Something you'd like to tell us?"
M'gann looks over the group before she sighs. "Growing up on Mars was not a happy time for me." She admits lowly. "I started watching the broadcasts my uncle sent from Earth to teach us about our sister planet. And when I saw "Hello, Megan!" something just clicked.
Maybe it was the similarities in our names. Maybe it was the way all Megan's problems could be solved in 22 minutes. All I know for sure is that Megan helped me smile through a lonely childhood. So when I came to Earth and had to adopt a human form, I chose you." Marie gives a small smile, seeing M'gann in a new light. "Well, huh, Megan."
"Which begs the question," Robin starts slowly, exchanging a look with KF who is back beside his chair. "what do you really look like?" leaning his arms on his thighs.
M'gann stands slowly, then her hair and freckles disappeared. She looks a lot more like J'onn but still has her golden-brown human eyes. "Bald M'gann." Wally vocalizes before dropping his voice. "Still hot."
Superboy and Legend stand up and heads to M'gann's side, grabbing her hands before holding them in between the two of them before bringing her to face him. "You know you don't have to put on a mask for me."
Her hair Is suddenly back and she pulls away, hugging herself. "I do it for me. This is who I am inside." Then she looks up to Marie. "Please don't be mad."
"Mad? No, I'm honored." Marie corrects. "M'gann, you saved my son. He says he's your blood brother now, and I agree. You're family now."
Miss M moves quickly towards Marie, broadcasting her intent to hug her before they're close enough to do so. "Thank you." She whispers. "You don't know what that means to me."
Miss M and Legend heads down the hall towards Garfield's room, Legend gently opening the door. "Garfield?" She asked but gasps and tenses when she realizes he's not alone. Miss M opens the door fully, revealing Queen Bee.
"Shh. It would be a shame to wake him at the moment." She reaches down and brushes his hair with her hand. "I might have to order my little thrall here to damage himself." Miss Martian's eyes glow and Legend gets into a fighting stance. "Mmm, He already has orders to do just that if anything happens to me." Stunned, Miss Martian's eyes lose their glow and Legend lowered his fists but kept them clenched tight.
"Now, about your performance, it was a bit over the top, I think. But then again you haven't practiced being me the way you've perfected the role of Megan."
Queen Bee stands up and heads towards the two heroes, Miss Martian can only stare in shock while Legend got in front of her Defensively. Queen Bee smirked and whispered. "Sleep." Legend's eye got droopy as he fell to his knees then to the floor, Queen Bee stepped over the downed clone and got in front of Miss Martian.
"That's right. Poor Psimon's not the only one who knows your true form." She says, invading Miss Martian's personal space. "And if you don't cooperate…" She moves closer and whispers in Miss Martian's ear. "I'll make sure everyone knows what you really are." She smirked once more and gestured to Legend on the ground. "Starting with him."
Miss Martian's face tightens up, she looked down at Legend then back to Queen Bee, looking ready to cry and to terrified to look away from the female dictator.
