"Damn it!" Shigaraki tosses the glass on the table angrily, making Kurogiri sigh.
"Tomura, please. Calm down." Kurogiri says as he grabs a broom to clean off the broken glass.
"I had everything! The perfect team of Nomu to kill All Might! The bulky tank with enormous strength and DPS debuff, the long-ranged speeding attacker, and the sneaky assassin! One keeps him busy, one continues to poke him, and another stabs his weak spot!" Shigaraki rants. "But, no, a son of a glitch decided to appear and ruin everything! He was like those stupid anime protagonists who got beaten and got a second wind! The tank's shock absorption was useless against him, and he beat the fucker so bad, the regeneration quirk broke!"
"Dr. Garaki did mention they were merely prototypes. You should've chosen the complete one instead of the prototypes I suggested." Kurogiri states as Shigaraki snarls. "Although, it is still strange…that boy, it was like he has multiple quirks himself."
"You…mean, he was like some sort of Nomu?" Shigaraki pauses. "Did the doctor accidentally toss out a Nomu because it was deemed a failure and somehow, like some anime plot, they appear before us?"
"That is quite a story you have there, Tomura." The villains shiver in fear before turning around to see the television screen displaying nothing but 'Audio only' letters on it. "Perhaps, you could tell me more?"
"M-master…" Shigaraki gasps. "I….thought you were busy…"
"The medical treatments have been fully completed. I have to say, I expect them to lose, but to sustain such an injury isn't something I expect, especially Grim." The voice that Shigaraki dubbed 'Sensei' muses. Shigaraki wonders what made his sensei decide to name the Nomu in the first place, but it's much better than just calling it Nomu when there are three of them and more. He just wished that 'sensei' had named it before the attack so he could coordinate them better.
"What about the two of them that Kurogiri brought along?" Shigaraki asks.
"The girl's quirk is useless for me, but she would be a good subject for Dr. Garaki." 'Sensei' said casually. "Now, how about you tell us the full details about the attack?"
And so he did, he informed the entire detail of the attack about how the attack goes and how it was going according to plan.
"It was that damn glitch fault! He and his damn pet along with those NPCs ruin everything. He not only has the strength and speed that reminds me of All Might but is weaker, but somehow, he has better reflexes as he managed to dodge every time Kurogiri tries to open the portal and I try to attack him, not to mention his punches bypass 'Grim's' Shock Absorption, as he nullified it! Then, he somehow got faster! So fast that he broke 'Grim's' regeneration and created a tremor with his punch! And let's not forget his pet, he rips my hand off! To make it worse, All Might never got into the battlefield! We lost before he got here."
"Interesting..." 'Sensei' muses. "We underestimate the threat a future hero could pose, forgetting that All Might isn't the only threat that exists in our path. I guess the attack wasn't fully a waste. I suggest you take your time to rest and gather powerful allies. And if what you said about the 'glitch' is true, then clearly you can't treat him lightly."
"Yes…sensei…" Shigaraki replied.
"Let us stay low for now, Tomura. We need a symbol like you. Get ready as next time, you shall show the world the terror you represent."
Later
UA Infirmary
"This boy…" Recovery Girl let out a tired sigh as she looked at unconscious Izuku on the bed with an oxygen mask, while Hackmon lying beside him, sniffling in worry. "Massive drop of oxygen level in the bloodstream, torn muscles, cracked skeletal system, what did the boy fight to the point his body in such state…"
"From what I heard, he was fighting 5 people at once, but focus on the three of them whom many students call monsters," Yagi says while letting out a regretful sigh. "This is all my fault, I shouldn't waste my limits…"
"Don't blame yourself too much. Sure, you shouldn't have wasted your time limits, but the attack is not what someone could've expected." Recovery Girl says while patting his back.
"…" Yagi remains silent as he watches his unconscious prodigy remain unmoving. Suddenly, he receives a phone call and he looks at the contact, only to scowl at who is the one calling him. "Excuse me…" With that, he walks out of the infirmary.
Recovery Girl watches Yagi leaving the room before looking back at unconscious Izuku. She wonders how in the world things end up like this. Today was supposed to be just a Rescue Lesson for the Hero Course students, but somehow, the villains attacked them and injured one of the students along with two other pro heroes.
She had hoped that this would be just a one-time thing, but she doubted it would given that the society is filled with not just heroes, but also villains. And villains tend to be very unpredictable. Suddenly, she notices Himiko 'sneakily' peeking at Izuku in concern while Eri is on top of her head doing the same. Recovery Girl can't help but wonder how she managed to sneak up on her without anyone noticing. She may be a rescue hero, but after years of dealing with combat heroes like All Might and Gran Torino, she learns how to hone her senses. So, Himiko casually sneaks on her without being detected isn't something anyone can do easily and RG might've not noticed if she didn't have a habit of looking around for any possible attackers.
"You know, you don't have to sneak on people like that," Himiko let out a squeak before looking at RG as her face turned slightly red.
"I-Is he going to be okay?" Himiko asks in concern. "H-he saved me and seeing him injured…."
"He'll be fine, kid." RG's words make Himiko feel at ease. RG then looks at Eri who looks away with a guilty expression. "Is everything okay, child?"
"I…I-I'm sorry…." Eri mutters, holding her horn, now looking more like a tiny bump. "I…I almost make you disappear…"
"It's okay, child." Recovery Girl says with a smile while ruffling her hair. "I'm okay, you did nothing wrong. It was just an accident."
"B-but…I could make you disappear…" Eri says, trembling as she is on the verge of tears. "M-my curse, i-it almost taken you away…"
"My child, don't believe that your power is a curse." Recovery Girl says as she pets her head. "What that man said to you, don't ever believe it. It isn't a curse, it's a gift. And I am living proof of it."
"…." Eri looks away as tears escape her eyes.
"Your powers could help a lot of people. You just need to learn how to use it properly." Recovery Girl says as Eri looks at RG.
"Can I….can I ever use it to help Izuku-san?" Eri asks.
"Yes, but only after you learn how to use it properly…" Recovery Girl says as Eri's eyes slightly lit up.
"C-can you teach me how?" Eri asks, hope in her voice.
"Perhaps one day, but right now, you shall rest and take care of yourself till you are completely healthy." Recovery Girl says. "You and Himiko are not fully recovered, so take it easy."
"O-okay…" Eri replies.
"…." Himiko watches as Recovery Girl interacts with Eri, slightly jealous of the scene. She wishes that her parents treat her like how Recovery Girl treats Eri.
"And this goes for you too, Himiko. Don't believe what your 'parents' told you about your quirk or any of their words." Recovery Girl says to Himiko after noticing her expression. Himiko looks slightly surprised at her words before nodding, a tear escaping her eyes.
Meanwhile
"We're done!" Toshinori snarls at the phone before hanging up the call in anger, letting out a frustrated huff. He can't believe he decided to accept the call from his former sidekick, Sir Nighteye, again after what happened.
Sir Nighteye was a fanboy of his who was dedicated to being his sidekick. All Might was at first, refused to take sidekicks until he relented. At first, he was a great help, especially with the paperwork and file reports. It wasn't until 5 years ago that they went separate ways due to disagreement and several months ago while training Izuku, Toshinori decided to tell Sir Nighteye about his decision, and turns out, it was a huge mistake as he and Sir Nighteye had another disagreement.
Nighteye somehow managed to get the news regarding USJ and how Izuku got injured, then decided to make a call to Toshinori before he start to badmouthing Izuku about how he got injured while everyone was okay, infuriating Toshinori to the point that he told him to never call him again. Toshinori let out a sigh, wondering how did things end up like this.
"Hey, Toshinori," Toshinori turns to see a detective with an overcoat and a matching hat as he takes off said hat while approaching Toshinori. "How are you feeling?"
"Like a shit," Toshinori says bluntly as the detective winces.
"That bad, huh…" The detective says while scratching his cheek nervously.
"Is there anything I can do, Naomasa?" Toshinori asks as the detective, Naomasa, nods.
"I simply want to talk to an old friend," Naomasa states. "That boy, the one you panicked over, that is your successor, isn't it?"
"H-How do you know?" Toshinori asks in shock.
"You forgot my main job is detective," Naomasa says in amusement before giving him a concerned look. "How was the boy?"
"He'll make it through…" Toshinori says in a guilty tone. "I….I wish I didn't spend all of my time limit…."
"This isn't something that you could foresee. You may be the Symbol of Peace, but you are also a human." Naomasa says as he pats his friend's shoulder.
"…" Toshinori says nothing and simply looks on the ground.
With the students
Ochako can be seen sitting in the cafeteria solemnly as she and the rest of her friends are in complete silence, unable to say a single word as they eat slowly. After the attack, they were questioned by the police regarding everything that happened in USJ and they complied. After the questioning, most Class 1A students seemed to call their parents to pick them up, something that Ochako and her friends couldn't blame them to do such things.
Ochako, Eijirou, Iida, Tsuyu, Koda, Kaminari, Hagakure, and Yaomomo however choose to stay. They were hoping that they could visit Izuku after his injuries were fully treated, but they were told not to since he is resting and told to go back to rest as the school is canceled until next Monday. However, the group stubbornly chose to stay and wait for Izuku to recover. Lunch Rush decided to offer them some food so they wouldn't starve while waiting for their friends.
"…..this is suck, kero…" Tsuyu mutters, breaking the silence.
"Yeah….we are all physically fine but not Midori-bro….this is not fair…" Eijirou exclaims while slamming his fist into the table.
"I….am sorry, if I didn't hesitate to go get the teacher…" Iida lamented.
"Don't blame yourself, Iida," Yaomomo says. "You have every right to hesitate…you didn't want to abandon any of your friends…"
"Damn it, why is he the only one getting injured…" Kaminari says in frustration. Koda let out a sad sigh, fiddling with the food with his spoon.
"Life isn't fair…" Tooru states as she looks at her plate of food.
"We did nothing to help…" Ochako mutters, getting their attention. "… All of us, while Izuku was busy fighting those monsters, we were just there….watching while doing nothing…."
"Ochako-chan, that's a bit much. There's nothing we can do…" Tsuyu says, slightly hurt by her words.
"Yeah….there's nothing we could do….because we were weak!" Ochako exclaims while slamming down her hands, making everyone flinch. "Because we were weak….w-we can't help him….h-he almost died….he almost died…..b-because of that monster…b-because we can't help him…."
"… All I can do is to get Aizawa-sensei out of danger….and one of the monsters attack us…." Eijirou mutters as he grips his fists tightly. "H-he distract the villains for us….t-to get to safety…"
"….kero…" Tsuyu mutters guiltily as she is with Eijirou and is unable to stop the monster from reaching him. Izuku had to be the one who got it away from him, not her. Yaomomo, Kaminari, Tooru, and Koda can't help but look guilty as they all are watching the entire fight from the side, their legs are trembling in fear, and unable to move. Each one of them feels guilt for not being able to help their friends despite being a student of UA's Hero course.
In that particular moment, one thing is in their mind. They need to grow stronger, stronger than before so they wouldn't need to remain as bystanders. They want to grow stronger so they can help Izuku next time instead of simply watching from the side or frozen in fear. That is a silent promise they made for themselves.
"G-guys!?" They all snap out of their thought as a familiar figure approaches them. It is Miles Prower himself, looking frantic as he looks around. "I-I heard the attack of USJ, w-what happened to Izuku-san!?"
"… He is in the infirmary right now," Ochako says in a solemn tone. Miles widened his eyes before he decided to rush towards the infirmary, but was stopped by Eijirou.
"L-let me go, I need to see him!" Miles exclaims.
"Recovery Girl says that visitors aren't allowed," Iida exclaims, but Miles ignores him as he gets off Eijirou's grip before rushing off, much to Eijirou's surprise. They decided to follow him.
Back in Infirmary
Hackmon slowly opens his eyes after silently crying himself to sleep beside his partner, looking at his still unconscious partner. He gets himself closer to his partner, lightly nuzzling Izuku's cheek while trying to ignore two pairs of eyes observing him.
"I'm sorry…" Hackmon speaks softly. "I'm sorry….for being late….I….I promise to myself…. I won't let my partner get hurt again….I promise…I won't let my partner die on me again….I-I almost failed…."
He continues to get closer, ignoring his surroundings as he leans his head on Izuku's chest, looking at him with a sad expression. Next to Izuku, Himiko and Eri hear everything and can't help but feel sad for him.
"I'm sorry….I failed…" Hackmon whispers as he trembles on his chest, his mouth quivering. "S-some aspiring hero…..I-I am….always wanting to be a hero, y-yet I can't….save my partner properly…"
Hackmon lies down his head, covering his head with his front paws while letting out a slight whimper out of his throat. All of a sudden, he felt a familiar touch on his head. He let go of his paws from his face before gasping in shock.
"D-don't apologize….Hackmon…" Izuku says in a hoarse voice.
"I-Izuku!" Hackmon exclaims before hugging Izuku, causing Izuku to chuckle before he starts coughing.
"Hey….Hackmon…" Izuku says while wincing. "Damn…everything hurts…"
"Of course, you'll feel like everything hurts, whatever you did to your body cracks your bones and tears your muscles like a wet paper towel." Izuku turns to see Recovery Girl approaching him. Izuku stares before letting out a slight snort. "What?"
"No, just….you finally live up to your 'Youthful Heroine' title…." Izuku says in a joking manner as Recovery Girl gives him a dry stare.
"…you are lucky that I choose not to harm you even more…" Recovery Girl says in a threatening manner, making Izuku gulp.
"Y-yeah…lucky me…" Izuku mutters before he hears a slight giggle from his side. He turns to see Himiko and Eri beside him. "H-hey girls…"
"Hey, Izuku-kun!" Izuku blinked at the way Himiko cheerfully greeted him, but he didn't complain as he smiled back at her.
"H-hello, Izuku-san…" Eri says while waving at him. Izuku can't help but be happy for the two girls as he manages to save them from a terrible fate. Yesterday, he remembers Himiko has officially become the UA's ward while also hearing rumors about Vlad King planning to adopt her while Recovery Girl has officially become Eri's guardian for the time being.
Speaking of Recovery Girl, he was surprised when the old lady regained his youth, but remembers that Eri of all people is now under her care. The possibility is there, but he didn't expect it to happen. Thank god the degenerates didn't get reincarnated into this world or even if they did, thank god they didn't have their past life memories. For some reason, the universe decided to make Recovery Girl what the internet likes to call GILF and Izuku says she is on the same level as Seiko Ayase.
"So…" Izuku turns to see Recovery Girl giving him a stern look. "You want to explain why you decided to continue to fight despite being badly injured?"
"Well….the monsters….they were made to fight All Might…" Izuku mutters, making Recovery Girl tense. "And….they were attacking Aizawa sensei….then the others…Hasashi, Bakugou, Todoroki, Minobe….."
"…..take good care of yourself, fool." Recovery Girl sighs before lightly flicking Izuku's forehead. "You made your mentor worried."
"Mentor? You mean All Might's his mentor?" Izuku can't help but cough when hearing those words, and he gives RG a shocked look.
"… She knows Toshi's identity as he transforms before her…." Recovery Girl states. "And given how horrible such secrets were kept, it won't take long before anyone finds out. It didn't help that he shows too much concern towards you like you're his son."
If Izuku could, he would facepalm and blatantly ignore the last statement. So, he just sighs while hugging Hackmon like a plush as Hackmon starts to nuzzle him happily. Out of nowhere, they hear a commotion outside as Recovery Girl grumbles in annoyance while wondering what is going on.
Then, the door was slammed open and everyone blinked owlishly at the scene. Miles is trying to enter the infirmary while everyone is trying to get him to stop entering but fails. They paused when they saw Izuku was fully awake, decided to stop what they were doing, and approached Izuku.
"Izu-kun!/Midoriya-san!/Midori-bro!/Izuku-chan!/Izuku-san!" They all yell in unison as they approach Izuku at blinding speed, but are stopped by Recovery Girl.
"No running on the infirmary! You could crash into your friend over here!" Recovery Girl exclaims as they all look sheepish before apologizing. A moment later, they all sit around Izuku looking at him full of concern.
"Hey guys…how are you feeling?" Izuku asks with a wry grin.
"How are we feeling? You're the one in the infirmary!" Ochako exclaims as everyone nods.
"Well….as you can see…" Izuku says while using his left hand to wave as his right one is too busy hugging Hackmon. "I'm fine..."
"You're lucky to be fine, brat." Recovery Girl says while rolling her eyes as Izuku gives her a deadpan look. He then notices everyone seems to be sad and guilty, making Izuku a bit confused.
"Is….something wrong…?" Izuku asks before noticing that his voice is no longer hoarse.
"I-I'm sorry…Dekiru-kun…" Izuku blinks, not expecting those words from Ochako. "I-I'm sorry…y-you had to fight…..a-alone while we….we all stood there did nothing…."
"I'm sorry, too!" Eijirou follows up. "I-I should've helped you out but you end up saving me from one of the monsters, and I…I didn't go back to help…"
"I-I'm sorry as well….you were supposed to be our friend, but all I could do was stand still, frozen in fear…" Yaomomo exclaims. Izuku notices that everyone starts to tear up.
"I'm sorry too, for being a coward….y-you fight against those monsters while I was busy being scared…" Kaminari states.
"I apologize for not being there when you need it!" Iida says while bowing down.
"K-kero…I'm sorry. I-I was scared, those monsters were scary, and I….I can't do anything to help…." Tsuyu croaks.
"I'm sorry….I-I could've helped you get out of there….b-but I simply stood still….l-like a coward!" Tooru wails. "I-I'm a hero student…y-yet I fail to even save a friend…"
"I-I'm sorry, M-Midoriya-san…" Koda speaks for the first time, tears flowing out of his eyes along with others. Izuku could only stare at everyone with wide eyes, disbelief written on his face. In both of his lives, he had either former friends who ghosted him (Something that he can't blame since he wasn't the nicest person, but still hurts a lot), a group of classmates who either ignored him, or bullies, so he wasn't expecting much from his new group of friends. He still chooses to be nice as they have done nothing wrong and he decides to give it another shot in socializing, but to see them react strongly towards him feels unfamiliar to him. And then, he feels guilt slowly build up in his chest. He remembers how he almost died and how he almost gave up just to see his parents again.
'Don't blame yourself for that, Ninth.…' Yoichi says softly in his head. Izuku didn't realize that tears had escaped his eyes and his lips quivering. He wanted to say something, but his lips continued to tremble and refused to form a single word. So, he decided to pull all of them into a hug.
The group was taken aback by this and they feel Izuku quivering while hugging them. They all didn't say another word as they silently embraced themselves. Himiko tries to get herself and Eri to join the embrace, but RG, being the responsible adult that she is, stops her from doing so. Miles watches this feels slightly out of place but decides to ignore it. Hackmon saw the scene and couldn't help but to smile, glad that Izuku had true friends.
After the hug, the group decided to talk a bit. They informed Izuku that the class was canceled for the rest of the day and everyone had gone back home. Then, they had a small talk before their parents decided to pick them up. As they leave, Izuku feels a warmth on his chest and he can't stop smiling, something that feels weird but not unwelcome.
Then, the door opens once more and reveals to be Inko. She sees Izuku and immediately pulls her boy into a tight embrace along with Hackmon, crying rivers as she says how worried she was and how she panicked when she heard him getting injured. Izuku profusely apologizes to her for making her worry, but Inko tells him to not be silly as worrying about him is her job. Well, Izuku still apologizes about it and he receives a light whack on his head, much to everyone's amusement.
Recovery Girl suggests that I should stay one night in the infirmary so she could check up on his recovery, to which Inko agrees as she wants Izuku to fully recover. Inko decided to stay with us, and Recovery Girl couldn't help but agree since it would be cruel to separate a mother from seeing the only family she had.
"Recovery Girl-san, may I ask where are Eraserhead and Thirteen? How are they?" Izuku asks in concern.
"They are in separate rooms and both are in stable conditions. This infirmary is too small and due to Eri and Himiko being here, I can't let them be here." Both girls look guilty when she says that. "I didn't blame you two for being here. I allow you two to be here in the first place."
"Is it okay for you to stay here? I mean, you also need to monitor their conditions as well, right?" Izuku asks.
"I have treated them earlier and made sure the medical bots keep an eye on them." Recovery Girl stated. "They would alarm me if anything happens."
"Will they alarm you if Aizawa decides to get off the bed and proceed to teach despite his injuries?" Izuku asks making Recovery Girl pause.
"….I might need more than just making the robots alert me," Recovery Girl says.
"…..Recovery Girl-san, did you….ever know what happened to the students that got expelled by Aizawa-sensei?" Izuku asks as Recovery Girl looks at him.
"……Nedzu make sure to keep tabs on them, why do you ask?" Recovery Girl says after a long pause.
"One of the villains in USJ claimed that she was one of his students before she got expelled," Izuku says as Inko lets out a gasp before she looks at Recovery Girl. The youthful hero let out a sigh before pinching the bridge of her nose.
"I will tell the police and Nedzu about this. Now, get some rest." Izuku merely nods as Inko places her hands on his right hand gently. Izuku simply lay down and closed his eyes. Before he enters the realm of consciousness, he feels a gentle touch on his forehead and someone, definitely Hackmon, snuggling on his chest.
