Author's Note:

Welcome to my first story, I ask that you leave any constructive criticism in the reviews, and please be respectful to everyone. Just know that this story may not be the most accurate to canon, though aside from the main premise of the story, it should remain relatively canon for a few chapters until the change begins to snowball into many more.

I recommend that no one under the age of 13 read this, mostly due to profanity and graphic scenes.

With that out of the way, let's get this show on the road!

Chapter 1: The Return

'I can still save them!'

The leaves in the trees rustle as the young boy whizzes by, reminding him of his home.

'Come on'

His spiky black hair, longer than it used to be, hiding under the cowl granted to him by the mysterious white guy-thing from the cave with that old man.

'Almost there!'

His remaining eye trained ahead of him, its focus static relative to the socket on the side of his twisted scar from the rock that was thought to have killed him.

'COME ON!'

Breaking into the clearing, he notices his old teammate and rival, Kakashi Hatake, charging his Chidori, about to stab into the chest of a Shinobi from Kirigakure.

'Wait...'

Obito Uchiha notices his other teammate, Rin Nohara, about to jump in front of Kakashi's attack, and it is then that he feels a strong stinging in his remaining eye as he rushes forward, barely managing to push her out of the way.

He then notices that Kakashi's attack is about to reach him, leading him to- somehow- turn intangible and allow his former teammate's attack to pass straight through him, the shock in Kakashi's eyes visible even from Rin's position around two meters away. "Hey guys..." He awkwardly begins, unsure how to proceed with something like this.

"..." Both of his friends seem to be stricken silent by his presence, though that is understandable given the circumstances. "So, uh, Kakashi? You gonna take your arm out of that guy?"

That seems to wake them up, as Kakashi pulls his hand out of the newly made corpse, shaking it off before silently stumbling over to Obito with conflict and disbelief flooding his expression, or what little of it that could be seen. As he approaches closer, Obito shifts awkwardly on his feet, averting his gaze from his friend. It is then that he feels a stinging pain hit his face as his head is forced to the side by the slap given to him by Kakashi. As he looks back forward, his friend wraps him in a tight hug, stunning Obito.

Kakashi then pulls away, rubbing away a stray tear coming from his eye, "Obito... Damn it, how the hell are you alive?"

Obito deadpans, "You sound like you prefer me dead."

"Yeah, sure, whatever, just don't die again." Kakashi responds with an equally irritated deadpan, as the two sit down, tired of the day's events.

"O- Obito..." The two hear from their side, turning to see Rin still processing his presence, unsure of how to approach her supposedly dead friend. Eventually, she decides to stumble over and sit next to the two on the ground, "So, Obito... How are you, you know... alive? Not that I'm not happy," She asks, "But... I just- you were dead. I guess I just don't understand how you survived."

"Well, after you guys left the collapsing cave," The other two look down guiltily, "Not that I blame you!" He quickly corrects, easing their guilt-ridden expressions, "But there was apparently this really old guy who tunneled into the cave and took me out, healing me and stuff, and blabbering on and on about the injustices in the world and how people are always gonna die. He said something about being able to fix it, but he was planning on putting everyone asleep somehow, and I mean everyone. Every country, every village, every clan, and every person. In that sleep, he said there would be some weird dream thing that would allow people to be happy forever. I dunno, but he seemed to have a few screws loose.

"Anyways, he had a few little weird helper things. Speaking of..." He glances down at the cloak he is wearing, or more specifically what resides under it, "You guys might wanna look away for a few seconds..."

The two nod, with Rin blushing lightly while doing so. After a minute of shrieking and Obito yelling at something to 'stay still, you little piece of crap', silence finally persists, until they hear Obito's voice ring out "You can look now."

They look back at Obito and notice the white thing under his cloak is laid out with several holes in it on the ground nearby, Obito still wearing the cloak. Kakashi finally takes the time to look him over, before snorting and commenting, "Wow, you look like shit."

"Screw you too, Baka-kashi!" Obito replied with fake hostility, actually happy to get back to bickering with him like this, "Anyways, I will be back, just give me a few minutes to go deal with that old guy and his goons." He continues while standing up, causing his friends to give him shocked looks of protest.

"Absolutely not! We just got you back, and you wanna go again? No, we're coming with you!" Kakashi argues, before Obito lets out a sigh and swirls away in the warping power of his newest ability, Kamui, "Wait!" He hears Kakashi shout before fully disappearing.

Upon returning to the cave, he turns to where Madara sits before the Gedo Statue, the ancient man looking upward at Obito, "So, how did it go? Is it as you said? Or were they killed as I suspected."

"They survived... but you won't!" He shouts before blitzing forward, reaching his hand out to grab the man's neck, though he feels his wrist grabbed by a strong hand, "Foolish boy, I offered you true peace, a way to fix this cursed reality and create something better, and you dare to attack me?" He goes to break Obito's wrist, but suddenly feels his hand close on itself, nothing remaining in his grip, much to his own shock, as he feels the young boy grab his neck from behind, "Yeah, you die here, old man."

Madara quickly turns around and begins forming handsigns, "Majestic Flame Destroyer Jutsu!" he shouts before releasing waves of fire from his mouth, bathing half the cave in flames. Suddenly, to Madara's shock, the flames begin to spiral inward, to Obito's right eye, the young boy sporting a smug look on his face as he rushes forward, forming handsigns while doing so, "Great Fireball Jutsu!" He releases a fireball much smaller than Madara's, but still much larger than someone his age should be capable of producing.

Madara puts together a few handsigns and matches Obito's Great Fireball Jutsu, the waves of flame clashing, though moving in Madara's favor. As he pushes out one final push, he smothers Obito's position in flames, so many that they begin to spread to the Gedo Statue. He finishes his Jutsu, looking over the area in which the young boy used to inhabit with a sigh, contemplating the loss of such potential.

It is then that he feels a blade pass through his back, straight through his chest, letting out a gasp and cough full of blood.

"Almost had me there, old man, but you forgot one thing," He begins as he crouches over the ancient fossil of a man, "I don't give up, and I am not dying that easily again."

Obito reaches forward and takes Madara's left eye, the ancient powerhouse letting out a pained and hate-filled shout. He reaches up and puts it into his own face, and stomps on the old man, surely killing him with the force he put in even destroying the floor beneath the now-corpse. He then turns to the remaining Black Zetsu, the creature immediately murmuring something before disappearing into the floor before Obito can reach him. 'Damn...'

Obito then leaves the cave, and begins the trip back to his friends, contemplating his new abilities while doing so. Upon returning, Kakashi looks up and shouts, "Oh, he's back! You'd better not do that again, you hear me?"

"Yeah, sorry, just had to put him down before he had a chance to do that." Obito replies seriously, shocking his teammates that he was actually being serious about the guy's motivations.

"Who was he anyways? You made him sound like some big deal, and he's probably somewhat important and famous, right?" Rin asks, curious as to who he just fought.

"He said his name was Madara Uchiha." Obito replies with a frown.

"What! But he's supposed to be dead!" The other two shouted in unison, shock and disbelief covering their faces, causing Obito to shrug.

"I'm just telling you as it happened, I don't know if it's true or not," He replies nonchalantly, "It doesn't matter now anyways, the ancient dirtbag is dead. Anyways, are we going or what?"

"Yeah." Rin replies as the trio gets up and makes their way back to the village, when suddenly Rin remembers something, turning to the other two, "but what about the Three Tails! It is set to go off when I enter the village!" Kakashi gasps as he remembers, and Obito just looks at the two in confusion for a few seconds before connecting the dots and getting shocked at the implications of such an issue.

"Alright, when we get to the village, Kakashi will get Minato-sensei and Kushina-san, while Rin and I remain outside the village and its surrounding territories. Once you get them Kakashi, warn them about the Three Tails and me, along with what the seal is set to do." Obito commands, which Kakashi and Rin nod to, seeing that it is the most logical course of action, due to Minato and Kushina being the best sealing experts currently in the village.

After continuing for several hours, the trio comes to a stop, resting for a few minutes before sending Kakashi off to get the sealing experts. Eventually, after around five minutes of intense silence, Obito coughs into his hand, and turns his head to his teammate and crush, "So, Rin... uh... what's happened around the village since I- you know, 'died'?" Obito asks.

"Not too much, but Sensei is the Hokage now." Rin replies with a small smile, appreciative of his attempt to lighten up the mood during the tense situation.

"Really! Dang it, I was gonna be the next Hokage!" Obito shouted in annoyance, before quieting down and apologizing for the outburst.

"Yeah, sure you were." Said Kakashi from behind them, making the two yelp in shock before Obito turned and was about to shout at his old teammate before noticing Minato standing there in shock, seemingly unable to move, before he snaps out of it and walks forward, pulling Obito into an unexpected but not unwelcomed hug.

Pulling away, Minato looks down at his student who he had believed to be dead, "When Kakashi told me, I just couldn't believe it. I'm glad your back Obito."

"Me too, dying wasn't a fun experience, would not recommend." He says in a funny voice, making his teammates and sensei chuckle at his antics.

"Anyways, as much as I would like to chat about your experience with death, I believe we have a much, uh, bigger issue to deal with. Rin?" Minato continues, turning to look at his other student.

"Yeah, please just make sure this thing doesn't kill me and everyone else. But prioritize the village if it comes down to it." Rin asks of her sensei, something that seriously strains Minato's willingness to do it, but he isn't the Hokage for no reason and must make choices similar to this.

After working several hours, the sealing team would eventually get the seal to be stable enough that Rin could live in the village with no issue. Obito would stay the night with Minato and Kushina, before being reintroduced to the village the next day, as it was getting late.
