Trip and T'Pol are in front of the tiny coffin. Inside it is their daughter, Elizabeth T'Les Tucker. It doesn't matter that Elizabeth was a clone. It's moot now.
T'Pol remembers the time she held her little girl while taking life signs readings, unable to help in any way. She couldn't even feed her daughter with breast milk since Elizabeth didn't come from her womb. T'Pol's demands for a doctor to treat the baby were ignored or scorned. Hate was only in the minds of her captors.
Trip tries to be a brave father as he cries silently for his daughter. *His* daughter, his and T'Pol's. They wanted a family eventually, but not like this. Now, Trip is uncertain whether he and T'Pol's relationship will survive. The death of a daughter they barely knew yet loved with their hearts.
The rest of the senior staff of the Enterprise are present at the funeral. Phlox is beside Captain Archer, trying hard not to cry himself. He failed. Phlox couldn't save baby Elizabeth, knowing the cloning process was flawed. No medicine in the galaxy would have helped.
Everyone is ready for the service to begin.
T'Pol has already said a few Vulcan prayers and is now readying herself for the human service. She wanted Elizabeth to be remembered - as a Vulcan and a Human.
In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life
through Our Lord Jesus Christ,
we commend to Almighty God Elizabeth T'Les Tucker,
and we commit her body to the ground:
earth to earth,
ashes to ashes,
dust to dust.
The Lord bless her and keep her,
the Lord make His Face to shine upon her
and be gracious to her,
the Lord lift up His countenance upon her
and give her peace.
Amen.
