Disclaimer: I don't own Fairy Tail or LOTR.

Chapter 17 Escape from Isengard

Gajeel, Levy, and Pantherlily soon found themselves surrounded by a mass of shades appearing before them. The Iron Dragon Slayer and the Solid Script wizard froze in fear and recognition, while Pantherlily assumed his Combat Form and unsheathed his sword.

"What is this wicked power?" the black Exceed wondered, being unfamiliar with the former Guild Master of Phantom Lord as he hadn't been there back during Phantom Lord's attack on Fairy Tail.

"Oh I'm sure Gajeel will answer it for you," a sneering voice called out before revealing Jose Porla who has completed his Demon conversion.

"Jose Porla." The son of Metalicanna looked at his former guildmaster, who now appeared more vampiric-looking than even Draculos Hyberion, and put himself between Levy and Pantherlily.

"Isn't it ironic?" Jose said with a smirk. "You protect the same girl who you hanged from a tree."

"The past is in the past! Phantom Lord lost and we all moved on already!" Gajeel retorted.

"We COULD have won Gajeel, if you just did your goddamn job!" Jose yelled in a rage, and all shadows flickered, making even the Uruk-hai nervous.

"What happened back then?" Pantherlily asked his two fellow guildmates, as he hadn't been there back during Phantom Lord's attack on Fairy Tail.

Levy summarized, "Long story short, we had a Guild War with Phantom Lord where Gajeel and Juvia came from because Jose intended not only to wipe us out but to take Lucy hostage to take the Heartifila fortune himself."

"Yeah and we lost. Even if Phantom Lord won, the Magic Council would still have Jose's guild disbanded and his Wizard Saint title stripped away for violating the law that prohibits Guild Wars," Gajeel added in.

Upon hearing this, the former Phantom Lord Guild Master yelled in a rage, and blasted them with shadows. "The Council should thank me for getting rid of their greatest pain in their ungrateful asses!"

The trio scattered under the barrage of shadows, and Jose grinned at this sight.

"But like you said Gajeel: I also moved on." He gently rubbed the shadow tendril growing from the wall. "Now I have become more powerful than you have ever imagined! Not even Makarov would be able to stop me!"

Gajeel quickly got back on his feet as he prepared to retaliate, "Sounds more like you're still stuck in the past! Iron Dragon's Roar!"

The huge breath attack blasted towards the fallen mage, and the former Wizard Saint looked at it unamused.

"Dead Shockwave!"

The stream of darkness overpowered Gajeel's breath and launched at him. The son of Metalicanna turned his skin into iron, but a darkness blast threw him into the wall.

"Gajeel!" Levy shouted, and Jose giggled at her worry.

"This guy is not playing around." Pantherlily said to Levy. "We should run while we still have a chance."

Levy tried to rush over to the Iron Dragon Slayer worriedly, but was stopped by a few Uruh-hai blocking her path. "Gajeel! We must run!"

"Run!? We are just getting started!" Jose's darkness smashed against the wall, creating rain of debris. "I still have a few more surprises!" He looked over at the Uruk-hai who flooded the room. "Keep both her and the cat away boys. I want to deal with my former guild member without interruptions."

Suddenly, out of the shadow, an orc jumped at them, kicked Pantherlily right in the face, and knocked Levy to the ground, while the Exceed crashed against the wall with a loud thud.

"Levy! Lily!" Gajeel shouted, only to then block the shadow tendril.

Levy rose her head to see an enormous orc standing right above her, showing her his black, metal teeth.

"Hello, tark," an Orc with legs made of black metal stared at her with his black orbs instead of eyes and grinned mercilessly.

"YES! YES! SLAY THEM MY CHILDREN!" Lamy jumped in place.

"With pleasure," the Orc raised his right metal leg and tried to stomp on her, but Levy rolled away in a nick of time.

The impact of the leg sent shockwaves around the cave, leaving a large crater in the middle, and more rocks fell from the above.

Pantherlily recovered from the impact and wanted to jump into the fray,

"Curse: Quick sand!"

Suddenly, Exceed's wings found itself stranded by the mud, which also pinned his legs in place. With a horrified expression he looked at the orc wielding a staff made of blackened wood.

"What the hell..." He muttered as sand covered his body.

"We are the Ether-hai! We are unstoppable!" the Orc gathered power in its palm, "Feel the wrath of our Lord!"

Solid Script: Bullet!" Levy pointed her finger and a barrage of energy pellets struck the charging uruk-hai, downing dozens of them.

However, the rest kept charging forward, undeterred by their lost comrades. One of them tossed the spear at Levy, which she barely dodged.

The uruk-hair roared and charged, stomping on their wounded and dead, much to Levy's horror

"That's how you treat your brothers-in-arms!?" she shouted in utter disgust.

Uruk with metal legs laughed. "There is no mercy for the weak, pintskin!" He declared, and looked at the charging Uruk-hai "Her flesh is mine to eat, but you may get a leg or two."

Levy started to gasp for air rapidly as the uruks rushed at her in their savage rage, and she desperately fought to defend herself from them

These monsters were like demons - malicious, sadistic, evil. But demons were created by an evil sorcerer, not naturally born, they are evil because they were designed this way.

But uruks were born. And every single one of them seemed always angry and resentful, like they just live to inflict pain and suffering.

'What kind of creature is born with such malice and hatred?' she thought as she ducked away from the uruk swinging spiked club at her.

Meanwhile Gajeel picked himself up from the wall, spat on the ground and looked at his former guild master.

'He didn't hit that hard ever before,' he thought.

"Trying to think, Gajeel?" Jose taunted. "You were never good at it. Shade Entangle!"

With one move of his hand, shadows jumped at Gajeel and tried to ensnare him, but he jumped just in time to avoid that.

"And you're still trying to bore me to death. Iron Dragon's Lance!"

Gajeel's extended arm smashed at Jose from the right, but the former Wizard Saint didn't even flinch.

"Bore you to death?" he chuckled darkly. "Nothing so simple."

He grabbed the metal arm, and crushed it between his fingers, grabbed remains of it and threw it at Gajeel like an enormous javelin.

Gajeel clenched his teeth in pain and dodged out of the way.

"I want you and every fairy to suffer," the aura around Jose turned purple as he spoke, his rage growing visibly. "You and Juvia Lockser for your betrayal, and Fairies for ruining my GUILD! Dark Pulse!"

A set of explosions followed after Gajeel, shaking the entire area.

Jose watched with a sadistic smile how Gajeel ran for his life and raised his hand to finally finish this little game of cat and mouse.

"Solid Script: Stone!"

Jose rose his shadows to catch boulders thrown by Levy, then threw them away, doing little more than distracting the former wizard saint.

But the moment of distraction is exactly what Gajeel needed.

"Hey asshole!" he screamed at the uruk who pinned Lily with a quicksand "Iron Dragon Lance!"

Before the uruk could react, the iron pole smashed into his torso, throwing him into the wall, which freed Lily from a trap.

"Tfu!" Lily spewed out the sand in his mouth. "I owe you one." Gajeel smirked in response.

"Not the first time I saved your..." Before he could finish, Levy, after getting kicked by a metal-legged orc, slammed into Gajeel's chest.

"Nyahahhah, you have nowhere to run now!" Jose declared as from every tunnel a horde of uruks with crossbows arrived and aimed at them.

"They pushed us into the corner." Lily looked behind. "Any ideas?"

"I can still fight..." Gajeel wanted to say between the heavy breaths, but Levy put her hand on his shoulder.

"We can't fight him here, he is too strong." She gestured at Jose. "We need to run."

"How?" Lily asked, and Levy leant to Gajeel's ear.

"When I tell you to use your roar, just do it, okay?" Levy whispered, and Gajeel smiled from ear to ear.

"Fire!" Jose commanded, yet none of the uruks obeyed his command. He looked at them with disbelief. "I said fire!"

"The Wizard wants the girl alive." Uruk with now broken staff said, while the line of uruk-hai didn't even flinch.

"But she doesn't need her legs." Uruk with metal legs said, then licked it's lips, which horrified Levy and enraged Gajeel

"Then come and try, I dare you!" Gajeel shouted in response, all the while another uruk, covered in white markings, got into an elevated position and aimed.

"Stupid beasts, do I have to do everything by myself!?" Jose shouted and raised his hand.

...

Sometime earlier

"Let's not underestimate the resilience of the Fairies," Saruman said to his allies. "Their fighting spirit is quite potent."

"Yeah, they pulled out impossible stuff before," Doryu remarked with sourness in his mouth, while Gael looked curiously at the wizard.

"I assume you have a backup plan?" Saruman retrieved from under his robes a vial of black liquid, which looked like it swallowed light around it.

"I have many plans, Doryu," he said and with a gesture of the hand, he summoned an uru-hai covered in white markings.

Uruk knelt before his master, and retrieved three crossbow bolts from the quiver.

"Your brothers say you have the sharpest eye Rugbug." Saruman took the bolts from the uruk's hands, opened the vial and carefully drenched the bolts with the black liquid. "That you are as accurate as an elf from Mirkwood."

Uruk wouldn't even dare to speak in Saruman's presence, awaiting orders like an obedient soldier, all the while Dark guilds leaders observed the interaction with great interest.

"Prove the rumors right, and I will make sure that you will ascend." Saruman gave the bolts, now as black as the black hole, back to the uruk-hai. "Eliminate the Dragon Slayer, bring back the girl."

"Your will shall be done, my lord." Uruk rose up and ran away.

...

"NOW!" Levy shouted and pointed at the ceiling

"Iron Dragon ROAR!"

The blast hit the ceiling, making the entire cavern starting to fall apart

Uruks pulled the triggers of their crossbows, unafraid of death.

"Solid Script: Guard!" A barrier stopped the projectiles as uruks were crushed by the falling rocks.

"With an angry snarl Jose ran into the tunnels, two Ether-hai following behind, while the rest tried to rush at Levy, Gajeel and Lily, getting crushed by the falling debris.

"Solid Script: Drill!" Levy started to dig an entirely new tunnel. "C'mon! now or never!"

"Go Lily!" Gajeel turned his body into iron and stayed little at the back, shattering larger rocks falling at them.

"With an angry snarl Jose ran into the tunnels, two Ether-hai following behind, while the rest tried to rush at Levy, Gajeel and Lily, only to get crushed by the falling debris.

...

"What is the stuff you gave that beast?" Gael asked while Saruman carefully sealed the bottle.

"It's one of the few items I brought from my old home." Saruman said. "I initially wanted to use this venom on someone else, but the circumstances proved otherwise."

...

One uruk tried to charge at Gajeel, but the falling stone crushed him before he could even take a swing.

"Maybe that will teach you a lesson!" Gajeel yelled after the fleeing foes. "Don't mess with the Fairies!"

Rugbug remained motionless, aiming carefully at the Dragon Slayer without flinching one bit, unafraid of death. The Wizard gave him the task, and he will do it at all costs.

He fired his crossbow as Gajeel destroyed another falling rock, and the bolt managed to partially break through the iron covering his Dragon Slayer's tight.

"Ouch! That stung!" He laughed, mocking an uruk who managed to 'wound' him while an uruk run away, his duty fullfilled.

"Gajeel, we don't have time!" Lily yelled from the tunnel while Dragon Slayer nodded his head, pulled out the black bolt and threw it away.

"Yeah, yeah I hear ya!" He ran into the newly dug tunnel as the cave behind him collapsed.

...

"It's a strong poison then?" Doryu shook his head in disapproval. "Dragon Slayer's won't fall from ordinary venom."

"It's not an ordinary poison my friend." Saruman said calmly and started to walk back to his laboratory, while two dark guild leaders followed. "It's from *Ungoliant herself, a creature that destroyed the Great two trees. " He looked them deep in the eyes. "Your equivalent to the Sun and Moon."

"Really?" Gael said with disbelief, but upon seeing Saruman's serious glare, his eyes widened. "This venom killed your Sun and Moon!?"

"Nasty!" Doryu said with a wicked grin.

"So rest assured my friends." Saruman said with a small smile. "For when the venom reaches their vines, they will wither and then...

'

The magic drill broke through the wall, and soon Levy and Lily run out of it

"Gajeel, hurry!" Levy gestured for Gajeel to run faster "They will soon start searching for us!"

"Yeah yeah, you don't have to remind me!" Gajeel said, then yelped in the sudden pain.

He looked at his left thigh, and much to his surprise, a small part of it was pale as bone.

"Gajeel, is everything okay?" Pantherlily inquired.

"Just a scratch, nothing to worry about." He covered the white skin with a piece of cloth and ran after Levy, trying to ignore the slowly growing pain.

'

...they will perish."

Welp, hope ya'll enjoyed this chapter!

*Ungoliant is Shelob's mother. I'm sure you all remember Shelob the giant spider that Frodo encounters in Return of the King when Smeagol is leading him through that cave. But yeah, anyway, the venom that Gajeel ended up being hit with came from Ungoliant. Credit for Djoklecjan for that idea.

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I'll be busy working on the next chapter now. ^^
