"Thor is a strong name. No one is going to mess with a Thor." Rose remarked. I was pretty sure it was completely coincidental because I hadn't yet told her that Theresa was pregnant. I was trying to figure out how to do that. Also being named after a god didn't make you sound as cool as people thought. It actually might make people more likely to pick on you. There was a girl named Athena that I went to go school that people picked on until she started to go by her middle name. I probably should have done more about that. At that point, I decided to just tell her.
"Theresa is pregnant." I stated.
"What? How do you know? Did she tell you?" Rose asked in surprise.
"No, Marissa did." I explained.
"Did the two of them hook up again?" Rose questioned. That was a bit of an odd reaction to that statement.
"I don't think so?" I responded. "But regardless of whether or not they did, Marissa isn't the father so it doesn't matter. It has to be Eddie's."
"We don't even know if there is a kid." She pointed out. I was pretty sure there was a kid. "I mean how much faith can you put in a swab?"
"Don't say that. Ew." I commented. I couldn't help but notice how much I sounded like Summer there.
"Did you realize how much of a Newport girl you sounded like there?" She inquired.
"Well I am a girl and I live in Newport." I pointed out. I knew that the next step was talking to Theresa to figure out what she was going to do.
At that point, Theresa came out. It didn't look like it was good news. Well I supposed it was good news for someone who wanted a baby, but I was pretty sure that she didn't. It looked like we would have to figure out what the next step was going to be.
Later, the three of us walked into the kitchen to see that Mom and Dad were making out. It was something that I was somewhat used to.
"You're not at school." Dad noted. I hoped that we wouldn't be in too much trouble for this. It was important for us to go.
"Yeah, we were at the doctor's office." I explained. I knew we would have to tell them why we were there. I couldn't help but wonder if they thought that I was scheduling my procedure. I would have to talk to Dr. Roberts to see when he could do that.
"Is everything okay?" Mom asked.
"Yeah things are perfectly fine." Rose remarked. You know I was pretty sure that she couldn't sound any more suspicious. I supposed they were technically fine.
"I'm pregnant." Theresa declared. Both of them looked shocked at the revelation.
"Okay, well there is that." Rose commented.
From there, the two of us went to school. We told them that we needed to take a friend to the doctor and they gave us each a note. It was about morning break time. I went and found Marissa and Kaitlin.
"So it's official now?" She asked.
"Yeah." I confirmed. I didn't know if she had told Kaitlin, but I definitely had.
"So does she know who the father is?" Kaitlin asked. I was pretty sure that she hadn't slept with any other guys except Eddie.
"Well it's not your sister's." I joked. Both of them glared at me. "Sorry. That was a bad joke. I'm pretty sure it's Eddie's. She hasn't told me about any other guys."
"Does she know what she's going to do about it?" Marissa asked. I was pretty sure that she was asking about whether or not Theresa was thinking about an abortion.
"She hasn't said anything." I declared. I wasn't sure how I felt about that. On one hand, having her abusive ex's baby sucked, but on the other hand, I was pretty sure that she could be a good mother. "I can't believe my ex is pregnant."
"How do you feel about it?" Kaitlin asked me. I knew that I would have to be very careful with how I talked about it.
"How does she feel about what?" Holly questioned as she took a seat next to me.
"Theresa is pregnant." I explained. "I feel like I want to be there for her as much as possible, but she wants to move to Atlanta and I can't do that, especially with my movie filming this summer."
"Where is your movie filming anyway?" Holly inquired.
"It's going to be in New York." I explained.
"You're going to have so much fun there." Holly stated. I supposed that I should have mentioned the important detail since everyone thought you meant New York City when you said New York.
"It's not in the city. It's in Syracuse." I answered. I didn't know where it was exactly, but I knew that there was a college there. I was a little bit nervous about being gone for the whole summer, but I was pretty sure that the crew was going to take care of me.
"Oh well then you can see what the college is like." Holly remarked. I didn't know if we would be going to the university at all. Maybe we would get a chance to go when we weren't filming. We were going to be staying in a hotel during the filming.
I had a lot of mixed feelings about this situation. I knew that ultimately it was Theresa's decision to decide what she was going to do with the baby. However, there was still one wrong choice and that was going back to Eddie. I supposed that anything other than that would be acceptable. It may not be something that I agreed but as long as she wasn't putting herself in danger, I would agree with whatever her choice was. So basically I just had to convince her not to go back to Eddie.
Later, Kaitlin and I were at lunch together.
"I can't believe all of this is happening along with my mom's wedding." She stated. I still needed to figure out what dress I was going to wear to that. I wasn't in the wedding party, so I didn't get to have my dress picked out for me. "I thought we were finally going to be free of the drama."
"I don't think that the drama ever stops around here." I remarked. It sucked but it seemed to be true. "You know I really want to help Theresa."
"You know that isn't really your responsibility." She pointed out.
"I know but who else is going to help her?" I challenged. "I don't think that she can do this on her own. So how does Marissa feel about this? I know that she and Theresa only hooked up once, but it seems like she cares about her a lot."
"I haven't asked her." She stated. "Maybe she should be the one helping her though."
"Do we really think that she can handle a job?" I questioned.
"I really think that you should give her more credit." Kaitlin told me. "I'll talk to her about it."
"I still can't believe that your sister hooked up with the girl that I used to date before I started transitioning." I declared.
"You know I always wondered why you never told her." She admitted.
"Because I didn't tell anyone." I responded. "I didn't feel like I could trust anyone with my secret."
"Yet you trusted your dad." She pointed out.
"Well part of the reason was that I didn't want anyone back home to find me." I answered. She was right however. "I didn't know why I felt so trusting of him. I supposed I figured that since he was my lawyer, he wouldn't tell anyone else. He probably wasn't even supposed to tell my mom, but she might have been confused when he brought a girl back when he said that he was picking up a boy."
"So do you want to come over to my dad's with me and help me help Marissa move out?" She asked me.
"I don't think that would be a very good idea." I answered as she looked at me. "I think that's really something that should be between the two of you and your dad."
"So then what are we doing?" She inquired.
"What do you mean?" I asked in confusion. I didn't think that we were going anywhere.
"Well it seems like you're going to be putting a lot of energy into helping Theresa figure things out so where does that leave me?" She replied. I was a little bit shocked by the question.
"Kaitlin, you're my girlfriend and I love you. Theresa is just one of my best friends. Do you not want me to help her?" I challenged. I needed to know if it was going to be a problem for our relationship because I didn't want to lose my girlfriend.
"It's just sometimes that I feel like you're the only one I can count on and you're already going to be leaving for the summer. I kind of feel like you're slipping away from me." She admitted. I didn't know why she felt that way.
"I am going anywhere. Nothing is going to change that." I assured her. "So can you please stop worrying about me leaving you?"
"I don't think I'll ever be able to stop worrying about that." She declared. "But I suppose that I can try to think about it less."
That night, I was unpacking dinner with my parents.
"So does Theresa's mom know?" Dad asked.
"Not yet. She doesn't want to tell her because it'll make this feel real." I explained.
"I got news for you. It's real." He pointed out. I was a little bit surprised by his bluntness.
"Sandy…" Mom told her.
"Do you know how many unwed mothers come in my office?" He questioned. I couldn't help but wonder why so many unwed mothers came into his office. Was it about custody? I was pretty sure that Theresa had a pretty good case because she had proof of her abuse.
"We all know this is real." Mom mediated. "Can we please just eat dinner?"
At that point, Rose walked in.
"So do you think that we should try to convince Theresa to stay with us?" She asked. That would be pretty awkward, but we could probably give her a good environment to raise the baby.
"We're not going to make her do anything that she doesn't want to do." Dad replied. "If she doesn't want to stay here, we can't force her."
"I guess the only thing that I don't want is for her to go back to Eddie." I admitted. "I grew up with abusive parents and I wouldn't wish that on anyone."
"I don't think she is going to, but you need to talk to her about that." Dad stated. "Your mother is right though. We should just eat."
"Do we have any pudding?" Rose asked. It was a bit of a weird question considering what we were eating.
"Pudding and Chinese don't really go together." I pointed out.
"Pudding goes with everything." She argued. At that point, Theresa walked in and we all looked at her, even though I was pretty sure that she did not want all of us to look at her.
"Hey." She greeted us.
"Hi. I made my secret recipe: takeout." Mom joked.
"Thanks but I ate at work." She told us. "Rhiannon, can I talk to you?"
She then took me outside. I had a feeling that we were about to have a serious conversation.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"I've been thinking. We haven't really talked about this." She explained as tears started to come to her eyes. "I don't think I can do this. I don't think that I'm ready for this. I think I want an abortion."
"Are you sure? I can help you with whatever you need." I offered.
"I can't do this." She stated. "I'm too young for this. I don't want to have a baby right now."
"There's just one thing that you need to know. If you do this, there's no going back." I pointed out. "You could give it up for adoption."
"I just can't tell my mom about this." She declared.
"Your is not going to stop loving you just because you got pregnant." I told her. "If you really want to do this, I won't stop but you need to think long and hard about it."
At that time, my phone rang. I normally wouldn't answered it at such an important moment, but it was Dr. Roberts.
"Dr. Roberts?" I answered in surprise.
"So I heard that you were planning on getting an SRS and you have all of the approval to do so." He declared. "I was just wondering if you wanted to do it this weekend."
"Can we do that?" I questioned.
"I have some time to do it." He answered. "I know you have the wedding on Saturday, but I can do it on Sunday."
"Can you talk to my parents about this?" I requested. I was shocked. I was expecting to get it done soon, but not this soon. I thought it would take longer to get an appointment than that.
The following morning, I was looking at the mail while Rose was eating cereal.
"It says you need to renew the dock fees on your boat." I stated as I read one of the letters. "How about we take it for a ride?"
"Okay." She agreed. I had a lot that I needed to think about and I could use someone to talk to.
"So I'm kind of nervous about this operation. I thought that I would have more time to plan for it. And all of this is on top of Theresa wanting to get an abortion and the wedding is also still happening." I explained. "So do you still plan on asking Summer if she wants to sail to Tahiti?"
"That's probably a bad idea." Rose remarked. "I thought she was catholic and they won't let her get an abortion."
"The church isn't going to physically stop her." I explained. "I told her that she should at least think about it and maybe she will. I guess I should just worry about the things that I can control right now. I hope that Julie is going to let me sit with Kaitlin at the wedding."
Later, Kaitlin and I were with Hadley at lunch. I gave them both a rundown of the situation.
"So I just want to make sure that I'm understanding this." Hadley declared. "Your ex-girlfriend is pregnant with her abusive ex-boyfriend's and wants to get an abortion and you don't want her to?"
"I'm not really against it, but I don't want her to do something that she'll regret later." I explained.
"Well are you excited about getting the operation?" She questioned.
"I'm actually really nervous about it." I admitted as I held my hands together. "What if it goes wrong?"
"Do you think that she'll do it?" Kaitlin asked. I was surprised that she changed the subject like that. "Get an abortion I mean? She does have several good reasons to do so."
"Yeah I know. I still think that she can have this baby and still have a bright future." I remarked.
"Did she say when she's going to do it?" Hadley questioned.
"She just said soon." I answered as I finished my food. I then looked at Kaitlin. "So do you think you want to come and visit me on set this summer? I think that things will be pretty normal around there."
"It probably would be a good idea to get out of Newport for a few days." Kaitlin agreed. "And I would like to hang out with the two of you there. Do you know if you'll get a chance to go to the city at all?"
"I mean there will probably be some time and my dad could fly you there in an hour." Hadley explained.
After school, I was at the dock with Rose as we prepared to get on her boat.
"You this summer is really going to suck without you." She told me.
"Are you still going to go to Tahiti? It would be a pretty time to go." I pointed out.
"I don't even know." She explained.
That night, I went to talk to Theresa in the pool house. I thought maybe we should go in the pool, though I didn't know if she had a swimsuit with her. Then again, she could borrow one of mine.
"So how are you feeling?" I asked her. I then realized that I shouldn't have done so. "That was a stupid question."
"Pretty lousy." She admitted. Yeah, it was definitely a stupid question. "Remember how I said that I couldn't see myself having a baby? Well now I can't see myself not having a baby."
"You know we can help you with this. You can even stay here if you want." I stated. "You just have to tell your mom and your brother."
"I don't know if I should tell Arturo. He might kill Eddie." She pointed out. You know I genuinely wasn't sure if she was joking or not. She then gave me a hug.
In the morning, Rose and I went into the kitchen. I was pretty confused. Theresa hadn't even decided if she wanted to keep the baby. She just decided that she didn't want an abortion. Mom was down there when we got there.
"Hey, do you want breakfast?" She asked us.
"We were just checking to see Theresa wanted anything." Rose replied before we went to the pool house to see her packing up her stuff. I couldn't believe that she was leaving already.
"Do you want pancakes or waffles?" I asked. "What are you doing?"
"I'm gonna go home. I talked to my mom and told her everything." She explained. "I can't stay here."
"If you go back, you may never to get to leave again." I pointed out. "You shouldn't let a child stop you from chasing your dreams. Remember we were kids how we both used to talk about how were going to make it out of there some day?"
"Well I can just be happy that you did." She replied. "I'm sorry that I never saw it. You've got a hell of a career ahead of you and I don't want to stand in your way either."
That night was the rehearsal dinner. Even though I wasn't in the wedding party, I was still there. I was wearing the same purple halter dress that I was going to wear to the wedding.
"So do you want to make a bet that something is going to go wrong at the wedding?" Kaitlin asked.
"We probably should, especially since stuff does tend to go wrong when we're all dressed up." I pointed out. "I think that they are going to get married despite whatever goes wrong."
"I still have my doubts. I really wouldn't mind hiding in your pool house right now." She suggested. "Maybe since you are going to have your operation, we should do something special."
"You know that the restriction really only applies to me. I can still do things to you." I pointed out.
"Yeah, but you probably won't have a lot of time because of your filming." She countered. "So where's Theresa?"
"She went back home to have her baby." I answered. "Her mom is going to help her with it. I feel kind of helpless."
"Did she and Eddie make up?" She inquired.
"I don't think so." I declared.
"So she's going to do this alone then?" She asked.
"I don't know!" I snapped. "Sorry. I just don't want her to go back to Chino. I spent so much time trying to get out of there and I want her to stick around."
We then went to the rehearsal dinner and to be honest, I thought it was really nice. Caleb gave a speech about how the Cohens, Coopers and Nichols were going to become one big family, even though we kind of already were. I couldn't help but wonder who was going to give a speech about him.
The following day, I was with Kaitlin, who was wearing her pink bridesmaid dress. Pretty much everyone was there before I saw a limo pull up. I was also surprised by who got out.
"Hadley? What are you doing here? You weren't invited." I told her. I hadn't been allowed to invite her.
"I know, but I'm the plus one of someone who is." She stated before she opened the door and Theresa stepped out. I had to admit that I was very confused seeing her.
"What?" I replied in surprise.
"When you said that you didn't want her to leave, I talked to my dad and told her that she was a friend of yours. So I went to Chino and talked to her and I managed to convince her to stay with an even better solution." Hadley explained.
"What's that?" I asked.
"I'm gonna be in your movie with you." Theresa declared. "I'm not going to be a major character, but Hadley's dad is going to pay for all of the expenses to have my baby born and he even offered to adopt the baby if I decide that I don't want it."
"Oh." I remarked before I gave both of them a hug. I couldn't believe it, everything was working out for once.
During the ceremony, I sat with the two of them, Holly and Summer. Everyone else was with the wedding party. After the ceremony and the lunch, I went to the dancefloor with Kaitlin. I also noticed that Summer was dancing with Rose and Hadley even let Theresa do some dancing. The two of them did look cute together, but I really didn't think that I should try to play matchmaker.
"You know I'm glad that you came here." Kaitlin told me. "Before you got here, my life was boring and people only saw me as Marissa's younger sister. You were the first person to ever think of me as Kaitlin."
"Well I'm glad that I came here too." I explained.
The following day, I was in the hospital. I was sitting my gown in my bed as I waited for the anesthesia This had been something that I was waiting and I was still really nervous, but I was pretty sure that it was the right thing to do. I wanted to be a girl for most of my life and I was finally going to look like one. I turned on the TV and put it on E! because I wanted to see some entertainment news.
"This just in! We've just gotten word that rock star Graham Johnson has called a press conference." The anchor declared. "We're going to take you live to it."
You know I couldn't help but think how coincidental it was that he was doing this during the exact time that I started watching. I thought about turning it off, but I couldn't find the remote.
"Hello, everyone. You're probably wondering why I called you here." He stated. I definitely was. Wait a minute. No, please don't let him do that. He can't do this right now. "Just a week ago, I found out that I have a daughter. She's someone who is just coming up in the industry and I made some mistakes by leaving her. That's why I wanted to tell everyone that I, Graham Johnson, am the father of Rhiannon Cohen."
Fuck.
End of Season 1.
So how's that for an ending? Rhiannon had her parentage revealed to the world. Also Theresa is going to be sticking around for a little while. There will be a sequel. Thank you for reading and please don't forget to review.
