In the morning, Ponch met Jon at the station.

"Hey partner! You didnt let me down!"

"Wait until Getrear sees me Ponch. He'll kill me."

"I'll just tell him it was my idea to bring you in."

"Then he'll kill you too."

"So he'll kill us both. What else is new? Come on. Lets get inside before I miss briefing."

Jon followed Ponch inside.

"I'll meet you at briefing." Jon said.

"Where you going?"

"I'm going to talk to Sarge."

"Not a good idea!"

"He'll find me sooner or later."

"Baker?! Is that you?" Getraer shouted.

"See you later partner." Ponch started to walk off when Jon grabbed the back of his shirt.

"If I'm going down, you're going down with me."

They walked into Getraer's office. "Yeah, Sarge."

"I thought I gave you three days off."

"You did."

"Then why are you here?"

"Um..." Jon tried to think of an answer.

"Uh, Sarge, it was my fault. I dragged him in."

"Of course you did Poncherello. What am I going to do with you two?"

"Let Jon ride the beat with me today."

"No! Absolutely not. He's on sick leave. Remember?"

"I tried telling him that yesterday."

"Come on Sarge. Please? For your favorite motor officer?" Ponch pleaded.

"You mean least favorite...alright. but if he so much as yawns at all today, he's finishing his sick leave. Go get into your uniform, Baker. Briefing in ten minutes."

Ponch smiled widely. "Alright! I'll see you at briefing partner." Ponch left.

"Thanks Sarge."

"Don't thank me yet. I still have time to change my mind."

Jon left to the locker rooms to change.

Ten minutes later, Jon sat next to Ponch in the briefing room when Getraer walked in.

"Keep on the lookout for a red camero. License plate 343 X-ray Ida Charles. He caused one of my officers to crash his bike. As far as we know, its a couple kids joyriding. That's it. Get to your beats."

All the officers stood up and headed out the door.

"Baker." Getraer said.

Jon walked up to him.

"Are you sure you want to be out there? This is your last chance to change your mind."

"I'm okay. Really. I'm itching to get back on the freeway."

"Okay. I won't stop ya. Get out there."

Jon met Ponch outside, who was talking to Baricza.

"Hey Jon."

"Hey Bear. What's happening?"

Jon put on his helmet.

"Home sweet home, right Jon?" Baricza said.

"Right."

Ponch and Jon mounted their bikes.

"See ya Bear." Jon said and headed off to the freeway with Ponch following.

"How's it feel to be back?"

"It feels great I guess."

"You guess?"

"Yeah. I mean I was looking forward to those days off."

"LA 15 7 Mary 3 and 4. There's a report of a car stalled on the side of the freeway."

"7 Mary 3 and 4 10-4." Jon said.

"I would hate to be in their position, having a car stalled on the side of the freeway." Ponch said.

"I hear ya."

While they were at the stalled vehicle, they both heard a reckless driver followed by sirens. Then, there was a crash right behind them, involving the driver, the patrol car and several other vehicles on the freeway.

Jon ans Ponch looked at each other before running to the crash. Jon went to the patrol car, which was on its side. Baricza was struggling to get out of the car.

"Bear! You hurt?" Jon asked as he helped him out.

"Negative. I'm alright. I'm a bit shaken up but..."

"Happens to the best of us."

"Right. How'd you get here so quick?"

"See that vehicle over there?" Jon pointed out. "That's the stalled vehicle we were called to."

Jon put his arm around Baricza and smiled. "Glad you're not hurt."

"Yeah, me too. But look at the car. Getraer's going to kill me."

"No he won't. You're not Ponch. You don't wreck as much as he does."

"Boy, ain't that the truth." He laughed.

Ponch ran up to the two. "No one was hurt. I'm going to call in a tow truck." He said, then left for his bike.

Baricza ran up to the driver he was chasing and cuffed him. "You're under arrest for drunk driving. Hey, uh Jon? Could you call in transportation?"

Jon smiled. "Sure."

Grossman showed up and started directing traffic. A few minutes later, another patrol car showed up and Baricza put the driver in the back seat. "Hey, Bonnie. Mind giving me a ride?"

"Sure. Hop in."

At the station, before the afternoon briefing, Grossman was trying to solve a rubiks cube. He was in deep concentration. Jon and Ponch walked in on him.

"Hey Grossie. Still tryin' to figure that out?" Ponch asked.

"I did once. I just can't do it again."

"Let me try."

"Be my guest." Grossman threw it to Ponch so he could give it a try.

Ponch gave it a try and gave up a minute later. He threw it to Jon. "Here. You try, partner."

Jon shook his head. "I don't think so."

"Why not? Dont want everyone to know you cant solve it?"

"I just dont have time for this."

"Come on Jon!" Grossman pleaded. "Just this once. I'll never ask again."

Jon sighed. "Alright. But don't look. I'll get nervous."

Ponch and Grossman turned around reluctantly and within seconds, Jon spoke again. "Okay. You can turn around." He placed the cube on the desk.

The other two turned around and Ponch picked it up, surprised. "How? I didn't know I had a smart partner."

"Yes you did. Out of me and you, I'm the smart one."

"How did you solve this?"

"There's a strategy to it. You just have to know what it is."
