Loona groaned as she stirred from the realm of dreams, feeling her body aching in a certain way that was too good of a feeling. Her pussy was aching from the pounding she got from her boyfriend the night before, but she felt as satisfied as ever and in a very good mood as she awakened. She grumbled at awakening early and turned over to drape her arm across her boyfriend's chest...

Only to be met with an empty space.

Tiredly opening her eyes, Loona started to become more awake and aware as she saw Nathan wasn't in bed with her. She sat up, the bed covers falling down and revealing her bare breasts to the cool air which made her shiver slightly as her nipples hardened.

"Nate?" She called, only to get no response. Frowning, Loona got out of bed and put on a pair of Nathan's boxers and one of his shirts before making her way out of the bedroom and into the living room, expecting her boyfriend to be there or starting on breakfast.

But there was nothing. He wasn't there.

"Where the fuck...?" Loona looked around for her boyfriend, but couldn't find him at all. She sniffed the air for his scent. It felt faint, meaning he wasn't in the building at all. She'd guess he had been gone for at least two hours now, from how faint the scent was.

Going back into the bedroom, Loona took her phone off the bedside table and dialled Nathan's number only for it to go straight to voicemail which confused and worried her. Nathan always picked up when she phoned, so the fact he was gone and she couldn't get in contact with him was worrying for her.

"He's probably okay. Maybe... maybe his phone died." Loona muttered to herself as she started to leave the bedroom, clutching her phone, when something caught her attention out the corner of her eye. She turned to look at it, and her eyes widened when she saw exactly what it was, and the most probable cause for her boyfriend's disappearance.

it was a calendar, one that seemed exclusive to Hell only since it was unlikely that Earth sold calendars with scantily-clad female demons for the pictures of each month. It was something Nathan got long before they got together, and it had been the only one in stock so he had no choice but to get it. However, it wasn't the calendar that got Loona's attention and gave her more worry about her boyfriend. It was the date that was circled.

August 13th.

Today's date.

And it was also the day of...

'David and Becky's birthday!' Loona thought. Nathan's kids, David and Becky, had been born on the same date but a year apart, and today was their birthday...

Loona quickly ran off to get changed into her usual clothes. She had to find Nathan. She couldn't let him go through this on his own like he's been doing for the ten years since his children were killed. She promised to be there for him in his darkest moments, and she meant it. She told him she'd be there on this day so he wouldn't be alone, so why did he leave?

She sighed as she hastily pulled her shorts up over a black thong. 'Knowing him as I do, old habits die hard.'

Once she was fully dressed in her usual crop top and shorts, Loona dialled Blitzo's number while grabbing the spare key of the apartment so she could lock up. It took her adoptive father ten seconds before he answered.

"Morning Loony, what's-"

"Blitz, shut the fuck up, I need you, Millie and Fatass to help me." Loona said, unable to keep the worry out of her voice which was no doubt obvious to Blitzo.

"Why, what happened? Where's Nathan?" Blitzo asked.

"That's why I need help." Loona sighed. "He's gone, Blitz. I woke up and he was gone. I don't know where he is and-"

"Why the fuck would he just up and disappear on you?! Ugh, I swear, i told you this would have happened! And just when I was starting to approve-"

"it's his kids' birthday today!" Loona cut in before Blitzo could start ranting with his own inaccurate assumptions. Blitzo went dead silent on the other end. "He's told you about his family, right? He had two kids, a son and daughter. They were eight and seven when they were... killed. It's their birthday. They would've been eighteen and seventeen now..."

Silence.

Loona frowned, irritation flaring within her as she hoped to God Blitzo didn't say something fucking dumb. "Blitz-"

"We'll find him, Loony." Blitzo said seriously and reassuringly. "We'll find him and let him know we're here. He's clearly used to dealing with this himself, but not this year! No, we're going to sit with him and drink in the memory of his kids."

Loona couldn't help but smile. "Thanks Blitz-... dad."

"...You called me dad." Blitzo sniffled on the other end.

Loona rolled her eyes. "Don't push it."

"Right! Right! I'll call Millie and Moxxie, you get to work on finding Nathan." Blitzo said before he hung up.

Loona pocketed her phone and sighed as she left the apartment building and started walking on the streets, sniffing the air and focusing on Nathan's scent the most. It won't be easy to find, especially in this shithole, but she was going to do her damnedest.

'Hold on, Nathan...'

A empty glass was placed on the bar counter before Nathan tapped his finger on the counter a couple of times. "Reload." He said in a detached voice, one barely holding the pain, sorrow, anger and rage within.

The bartender gave him an unsure look. "This is your sixth."

Nathan glared at him, currently in his human form and uncaring the looks he received from other demons in the bar he had visited. His glare made the bartender rethink his 'wise' idea of cutting Nathan off, and just poured another drink for him.

"Leave the bottle." The Hellspawn ordered, getting another look from the bartender before he did so and walked away. Nathan glanced between the glass and bottle, before he grabbed the glass and downed it in one, exhaling after gulping the liquid down.

Shoving the glass aside, he grabbed the bottle and was about to take a large sip from it when he felt the presence of another standing at his side. It didn't take much imagination for Nathan to figure out that it was some Succubus based on the high heels and aroma of too much perfume. She didn't even have to start speaking before Nathan started to down the drink that he had poured himself.

Her voice was filled with seduction, and just as smooth as all Succubi and Incubi. However, there was also a tinge of a French sound to her accent., "I couldn't help but notice you sitting here all by your lonesome. I just wanted to keep you company."

Nathan rolled his eyes. What demons looks at him while he's a human and doesn't automatically assume he's a human that somehow got stuck down here? Was there something that gave off the fact he wasn't human? He didn't really care at the moment as he was at least glad it wasn't causing them to start annoying him while assuming he's human.

"Not interested." He said coldly, taking a sip from the bottle of whiskey, then slammed it down. "I've got a girlfriend." He gave the Succubus a look. "And she is much better looking than you."

The Succubus scoffed. "Blasphemy." She said with a chuckle

Nathan sighed irritably. "Look, woman. I've got a girlfriend at home who's going to kill me for this, i am in no mood for 'company' unless it's my girlfriend. So do me a favour and fuck off before you find yourself getting a broken shard of glass shoved up your ass."

The Succubus took the hint and left with a dismissive scoff, but Nathan could practically see her fear radiating off her at his threat, because he would've followed through with it if she didn't leave him the fuck alone.

While Nathan had been preoccupied with the Succubus at the bar, near the entrance was a demon. Her hot pink eyes with yellow sclera seemed to be completely focused on the Hellspawn. A light seemed to shine over her to show the form of none other than Verosika Mayday. This was never her type of venue to go alone, but sometimes there were exceptions. And since Loona had texted her for help in finding Nathan, she wasn't going to say no to her friend.

And since she recently had a gig in Pride, it was easy for her to find him when she heard talks of the 'human who smells like a demon' in Pentagram City.

Seeing he was alone, she began to walk over toward him with a sway of her hips. No one else was going to risk the same reaction as that French Succubus, so Verosika felt that she was probably going to be left alone while she went to chat with him. Confidence seemed to fill her as she knew that she would receive a better welcome than that nobody slut. Loona would be pissed when she finds out some slut was trying to seduce her man.

It wasn't long until Verosika made her way to the seat right beside Nathan. While he slowly drank his bottle of whiskey, his eyes drifted over to get gaze at the new Succubus that decided to sit next to him. A bit of realization overcame him before a wave of melancholy. He grumbled, "Ahh, shit…"

This provoked an amused expression from Verosika as she leaned on her hand before playfully teasing, "Aww, I was hoping for a warmer welcome." Only a small grunt was emitted from the man as a response. He was a tough cookie to crack based on his current attitude, but Verosika was determined to get something out of him this time. She always made sure to get her way.

"I want to be alone, Verosika." Nathan grumbled, hardly drunk from the alcohol but he was getting there. He just needed to keep going and going until he forgot about the day.

"Yeah, well, Loona called." Verosika said, causing Nathan to pause as he stared at the bottle, his expression going from a lost, sorrow-filled one to a guilty one as he sighed. "She told me what today is for you."

Nathan rubbed his eyes with a sigh. "Of course she did." He mumbled. "Just... tell her I'll be fine."

Verosika chuckled, shaking her head. "Are you really going to drown yourself in your sorrows alone? Nate, it was a shit thing what happened to you. Loona told me about your past, how your wife and kids were murdered, how you died and made a deal with a demon to gain the power to avenge them in return for being part of the demon's army and bringing the apocalypse on Earth."

"Whoopie for you, you know my past." Nathan grumbled.

Verosika smacked his shoulder, causing him to glare at her but she glared right back. "You better stop with that attitude when people are only trying to help. Loona is only trying to help. She wants to be there for you and make it clear you aren't alone. She told me that she promised to be there for this day so you aren't alone in it, yet here I find you without her, and she's worried out of her mind looking for you."

Nathan sighed. "Old habits die hard." He said quietly.

"No shit." Verosika said, then grabbed his bottle of whiskey, and the glass he had been using before pouring herself some. She handed the bottle back before sipping the drink from the glass. "Look, Nathan-"

"Just fuck off, Verosika." Nathan said blankly. "Go find some asshole willing to get between your legs like every other horny fuck in this shithole."

Verosika's cool and calm attitude dissolved into fury. Right as Nathan moved to drink from the bottle, Verosika slapped the bottle out of his hand, and it exploded on the ground. He then looked where the bottle once was before letting out a sigh. He knew that she would have been mad, but he was hoping that she would follow the example of the Succubus before her and just leave. Instead, it seemed like she wasn't done with him.

Verosika spat back, "You couldn't have said a shittier thing to me. Fuck you for thinking I am just some harlot hungry for cock!" Nathan's mouth formed a thin line. His eyes showed regret for his callous behavior.

Both Nathan and Verosika were silent. It wasn't until Nathan released a long breath to say, "Look, I'm sorry-"

The Succubus didn't seem interested in the apology. She decided to continue with frustration laced in her voice, "Shut up. I am going to talk, and you are going to listen. I know how it feels to have my heart broken. Yes, there was a time when Blitzo and I were… an item." Verosika seemed to get a bad taste in her mouth when she said that.

While the Succubus spoke, Nathan motioned for two drinks to be brought to them. Without wasting any time, the Baphomet scurried over with the drinks and left in a hurry. Nathan then waited patiently while Verosika continued to talk, "I was still early in my music career, but I was starting to make a name for myself. I won't bore you with how we met, and I hate to say it, but things started well between us. He had just gotten out of the circus, or whatever lame job he had."

Nathan nodded while he sipped his drink. He then hummed out in the friendliest tone that he had since the two had started talking, "Yeah, that sounds about right."

Verosika resumed speaking while she slowly swirled her drink, "Look, I don't want to talk about all the cutesy details of our relationship. We went on dates, partied until morning, we fucked around a good bit. I wished that I could forget about it all."

Nathan commented, "If you want to forget about it, why didn't you just leave the relationship? Knowing how Blitz can be, I can imagine that the relationship wasn't that good."

Verosika only rolled her eyes, "It wasn't like that. I hate to say it, but it wasn't bad at that moment. I was… happy with him. We had a lot of fun, and I even got this piece done in the middle of it."

The Succubus pointed to the heart tattoo on her arm with Blitzo's name written over it only to be crossed off. Nathan only commented and questioned before drinking, "I guess he didn't always have his name crossed out. What happened then?"

Verosika said, "I wanted more, and I finally told him that. I guess some switch, or something went off in his head. All the good things in our relationship suddenly turned into shit. The final straw was when he ran off in my car to Wrath while maxing out my credit cards on horse-riding lessons. Oh, yeah! He also left me with the hotel bill. Like that, he was gone while leaving part of my life in ruins. I only later found out that he was probably using me the entire time to get something he needed." Verosika pulled out what looked to be some sort of crystal in thought. Verosika then said, "I have been a bitter bitch ever since, and that was my last real attempt at a long-term relationship."

Nathan was silent, and just took a drink. He felt regret for the way he spoke to Verosika just to get her to leave him alone. He just... fuck, his mood was always sour and bad every time this day came about.

"Why did you tell me all of this?" He asked quietly.

Verosika shrugged. "Sharing our past experience in shit moments that occured in our lives. You lost your kids, it's their birthday today, and you're here thinking on the life they could've had. All the 'What ifs', right?"

Nathan nodded, not denying it.

"Well, I'm here for you just like Loona and the other three are." Verosika said, gently nudging him with her elbow. "Stop shutting people out, Nathan. It's okay to do so. You don't have to handle all of this on your own when you have a sexy, badass bitch like Loona for a girlfriend who'll support you and be there for you just as you would for her."

Nathan glanced at her, narrowed his eyes, then sighed as his expression lost it's hard edge and softened a little. "You texted Loona where I was as soon as you saw me in here, didn't you?"

"Damn right, she did." A familiar voice said before Loona was sitting on his other side.

"Hey Loon-" Nathan started but Loona silenced him with a quick peck to the lips.

"What she said is true." Loona said, making him blink. "It's okay, Nathan. I'm here for you and I always will be. You don't have to throw the weight of all of this onto your shoulders and be crushed under its weight. I told you I'd sit with you for this day as I know how much it pains and means to you. it pains me as well because it hurts you, and from what you've told me of them, I would've fucking loved David and Becky."

Nathan said nothing in response, he just pushed the bottle of alcohol away from him and crossed his arms on the counter. He stared down at them, eyes lost, before the Hellhound and Succubus finally noticed his shoulders quivering and shaking, and the unmistakable sound of a man trying to hold in his sobs and tears. Loona didn't hesitate to wrap her arm around him and pull his head against her chest, shushing him softly while nuzzling the top of his head.

"I-I miss them s-so much." Nathan cried into her embrace.

"I know, baby. I know." Loona said softly, her heart breaking for the pain Nathan was experiencing, the pain he always tried to drown out and never want to feel because of how much it hurts.

To the side, Verosika found herself subconsciously smiling warmly at what was happening. It wasn't until she noticed that she hid it behind her sipping her drink.

There was a moment of quiet between them until Verosika finally said in a teasing way, "Well, that was fucking adorable. I'm almost feeling a little cold all alone over here."

Loona growled out, "Bite me."

Verosika laughed before shooting back, "Gladly."

Nathan let out a shaky chuckle at the interaction between them, raising his head from Loona's chest to wipe his red eyes, tearstreaks running down his cheek. Loona turned his head and gently licked at the tears still going down his face until he was clean of them.

"Thank you, Loona." Nathan said softly. "And you too, Verosika, even if I was an asshole to you."

Verosika's cheeks darkened a little, before she smiled and waved her hand. "Forgiven. Just take care of yourself and we'll call it even." She looked at Loona. "You better get him home before he keeps drinking."

Loona shook her head. "Blitz, Moxxie and Millie want to partake as well, let him know they're there for him as well. But I'll make sure he doesn't get too hammered."

While Verosika wasn't pleased at hearing her ex being mentioned, she did nod. She looked at Nathan and placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him a warm smile as a warm feeling swelled within her once again.

"Take care, Nathan." She said softly, then took her leave.

"Come on you." Loona grabbed Nathan's arm and put it around her shoulder before helping her boyfriend up and over towards the door. "Blitz got the van to get us here, so we'll be taking that."

"I should probably tell them the full truth about me." Nathan sighed quietly. "They deserve to know."

Loona nodded. "I'll be here, remember that."

Nathan looked at her, his eyes softened beyond anything before it as he came to realize something. Something wonderful. Something he hadn't felt since Sarah; love.

"I love you." He told her, so suddenly that Loona's eyes widened as she snapped her head to stare at him but he just stared at her with love in his eyes, making her cheeks heat up...

Before she smiled right back and kissed him. "I love you too." She said against his lips before continuing to help him out of the bar...

And that's it for this chapter, folks. Nathan and Loona have confessed their love for each other! Sorry if this chapter felt too depressing but... guy was in pain because it's his kids' birthday, and it just reminds him that his kids are dead.
