9 and half years old

"The winner of the 52nd pokemon VGC is… Magenta!"

Dang, I really suck at this now. Beggsy gives me a few patts to the head. I didn't even get to the demi finals. I've been so busy with school, Seru, eevees and riolu…

"Eezee, what happened?"

Eezee or easy is the new nickname she has for me. She says because she has such a easy time beating me now. I don't know if she says it as a term of endearment or because she is trying to get on my nerve, but I'm optimistic that it's the former.

"I don't know, my strategy must have sucked."

"Explain it to me."

I explain it to her in length.

"That's actually a really good strategy. Gimme your console."

I hand it to her.

"What is this?, she says."

"What do you mean?"

"The natures! Some are right, some are just neutral. The IVs are definitely not maxxed out, don't even let me talk about the EVs and moveset. This is barely what I would call complete. You have pokemon level 45??? I thought you were gonna be my rival. What have you been doing?"

That is a really good question. Well I've been still seeing eevee. A bunch of eevees have showed up too. A Sylveon and an espeon just laid an egg too! Me and riolu have been chasing down poachers, even freeing some pokemon in the meantime. The poachers are more careful since incidents and since the incidents involve only pokemons, the police presence drastically decreased. Riolu is really good at detecting those bad guys. Seru told me it's something about aura detection. Beggsy has actually been saving our butt quite a few times too with poison pokemons that riolu can't hit as easily. Extrasensory serene grace is a really good combo. I learned a few stuff on the battlefield. 1rst you can call multiple moves at a time. Might be stupid, but I had my game habit to only call one. 2nd watch your pokemon. Depending on the status condition the pokemons have, retreating might be the best idea. About that, Seru told me that poison pokemons are often used for their ability to hurt pokemon without damaging the pelt. 3rd, but more important, in those situations, moves against the trainer are the most common. Seru also teaches me how to fight. He spends a lot of time also teaching me what pokemon like, where they live and how their environments are deteriorating. He always makes his lesson interesting though by bringing real life examples.

"I've been training pokemon."

"Doesn't look like it."

I meant in real life, but I probably shouldn't say that.

"Wanna walk home together?" she asks.

"Sure."

We walk and talk, but approaching the park riolu suddenly comes up. It looks really worried. I follow him. I shout:

"Don't follow us, it's dangerous!"

She's a little surprise, but retorts:

"As if that'd make me not want to do it."

We run to a deep hole where eevee and the egg. It roars aggressively until it sees us. It looks relieved. Beggsy uses extrasensory in the dark. A pokemon loudly falls on the ground. It's a venomoth.

"Well it's just as annoying as before."

"Ze, WATCH OUT!" Magenta screams out as I can feel teeth piercing into my sides.

Golbat starts to suck my blood. I'm becoming dizzy and see riolu use thunder punch and Beggsy throws extrasensory. Golbat let's go as air slashes push us in the hole. Riolu catches Beggsy and lands on his feet. Magenta catches me and we lend roughly on the soft ground. A purple powder falls on us.

"Finally tying up a loose end. Oh, and thanks for the help kid!"

What is he talking about? Everybody starts coughing.

"I don't think we'll make it past two hours, she says."

"Beggsy, can you?"

After a few tries Beggsy, gets heal bell which heals us up. However, it does nothing to my bleeding. Magenta ties her hair up.

"Alright, let's deal with your bleeding. Also, thanks Beggsy!"

"How'd you know how to do that?"

"My mother's a doctor."

"A pokemon doctor?"

"If you can head both a wailmer and a beedrill, I think you can heal human."

"Yeah, that's makes sense."

She takes off my shirt and rip it to shred. Dang, my Dragonite shirt! She pulls alcohol.

"So how long have you been going to those woods."

"Since a little before I beat you for the first."

"You mean the only time."

"If that's how you wanna remember it. I remember a certain 49th semi finals where you almost ran out weepi… OW!"

"Say that I was weeping again and your ribs will touch."

"Euhm, hey could I have another doctor."

"I'm sorry sir, no one else wants to touch you with a ten foot pole."

"Terrible establishment, I say. Got Hippocrates turning in its tomb."

"Haha, you're still able to joke, that's a good start."

She pulls a bottle of alcohol.

"Oh, I'm gonna enjoy this. So tell me the whole story?"

So I do, about eevee, my first encounter fully, the espeons where she purses her lips, then about riolu and vaguely about their training place. She bandages me up while I tell the story. Then helps eevee's leg which seems to be broken. Must be why he didn't take him. By telling the story, I remember the espeons!

"Hey, eevee we just have to get your parents they'll get us out in no time."

Eevee starts crying.

"Eevee…" I say softly.

"I think I saw its parents… they were with the man… i don't think they were… there were others too…"

I put my arm over my head. Tears start running down my face.

"I'm so sorry, eevee."

It comes near me as we hug and sob.

It's been three days. We try our best to keep rations, but with 3 pokemons and two kids we ran out quick. Nobody passes by here. It's a cul-de-sac to the river. I also learned why the crook thanked me. It was cold night and I guess eevee was scared for the egg and covered with a part of my jacket. The one I wore that first night we fought. I befriended many pokemon of this forest. Because of the smell, he might have caught a lot of them off guard. I also learned a lot about Magenta.

"So your mother is doctor."

"Yeah."

"And she taught you all that. Well, I can't go to VGCs if I get under 90 in her mandatory tests."

"But you never missed one."

"I guess I'm just that good."

"Ha, show off. Is she like that for everything?"

"My room has to be perfectly clean. All clothes folded. Grade at school must be above 80. She calls herself lenient because I have above 90 in her medical exams."

"Woaw, I'm so sorry…"

"It's okay, it is usef…"

"Being a huge pain is genetic, I had no idea."

She looks at me for a bit with no expression.

"I wish that Golbat finished the job."

"Hahahahahaha! I'm kidding, keep going."

So she keeps telling me. It is a nice distraction from the pain, but I also learn a lot about her. She talks about her 5 year old brother and her emotions come and go from endearment to annoyance. Then about her father and she has nothing, but admiration, but I can see some sadness that he is rarely home then comes back to her mother, but she stops at some point bashfully as if she's shy about sharing so much.

"We should probably sleep." she says avoiding my eyes.

6 days. No one is doing good, but I feel particularly not good. The rain a few days ago made us cold and we all had to sleep snuggled to each other. Even with that, I still caught a cold. some pokemon pichus passed by and threw some food our way. Eevee tried to talk to them, but they were too young to understand anything more. Somehow, I just couldn't eat. I felt particularly bad at night. The pain is emplifying by the minute. I pass out often. I puke blood. I dream and see me over my mutilated body. I still feel poisoned even though Beggsy tries heal bell multiple times. From the teeth mark I feel my blood vessels as if they're on fire. As I wake up and can think clearly, I realize it might be my last chance to say some things to Beggsy I should've said a long time ago. Even now, she is next to me trying to make me feel better.

"Beggsy, I don't know if I'm gonna make it. I really want to thank you. You are such a great pokemon. You're loyal and always cheers me up and you're brave and you're the reason why we're not dead of poison."

I pause. I think of all the times I talked enthusiastically about my team, while excluding her. It's crazy how, in hindsight, she was clearly hurt by that. I was just so caught up! I think about how many times she saved me, bravely stood with me in danger, cheered me on, healed me, made me laugh… sneakily, without me even noticing she had become my best friend! She never boasted about her courage or how many times she saved me and Arceus knows she could have. She was my best friend and I didn't thank her as much as I should or told her that…

"I was so stupid to not include you as part of my team. You're the reason I'm alive and happy when I shouldn't be. I am so sorry I didn't notice what an extraordinary pokemon you are."

I start crying. It hurts to realize you've been so terrible to someone who's been so good to you.

"Thank you so much and… and I love you Beggsy!"

Beggsy drops a tear and suddenly starts glowing.

"Beggsy why are you using flash?!?"

"It's evolving idiot!" Magenta says with what seems to be tears in her eyes?

Beggsy grows a neck. Little wings spring from her back. What was left of the egg now fuse with her body that is now smooth and white. Beggsy evolved into togetic.

"It evolves with friendship. I was sure you sucked as a trainer."

She was right. I was. Hopefully, I wasn't till the end. We celebrate togetic for a bit.

"OMG, IT CAN FLY!!!" Magenta exclaims!

"OMG IT CAN FLY!!!" I respond.

She dances a bit while I squirm on the ground.

"Beggsy you know what to do."

She flies determined albeit a little clumsily. We see a huge flash after 30 minutes that lights up the forest. 10 minutes after Beggsy is back with Seru. He heals me up slightly then brings us to the hospital. On the way, I tell him what happened. He tells me exactly what to say. So here it is. We heard what seemed to be a pokemon screaming. There were so many holes in the park we ended falling in one of it.

So we did. The police also noticed it when they were on my search.
