A story where Angela decides to tell Jane and Maura what she thinks.
I don't own Rizzoli and Isles neither in literary nor in television version (and it's a shame) etc etc
This story is mine, the mistakes are mine and this story is totally out of my imagination.
I remind you that English is not my native language
I hope you'll like it.

Maura's House
Angela Rizzoli was fed up. Every day, she watched her daughter Jane and Maura Isles, sharing glances, gestures and sometimes shy smiles that betrayed their deep feelings. Angela knew what that meant but she also knew that Jane and Maura were too stubborn to admit what she saw, what everyone saw, that they were in love with each other.
Angela knew that life was too short to let love pass without grabbing it with both hands, which she had done twice, first with Francesco Sr., Jane, Frankie and Tommy's father, and then recently with Vince Korsak, Jane and Frankie's sergeant. She wanted Jane and Maura to grasp this love, this happiness that they refused to see and accept.
So, one evening, after dinner, she decided it was time to break the silence. With the determination of a mother who wants her daughter to be happy, she spoke frankly to Jane and Maura.
"Jane, Maura, sit down. There's something I need to say, and I can't keep it to myself any longer."
"Ma, what's going on?
Angela, you're worrying us. Is everything okay?
I'm okay...well, it could be better. Look, I've been watching you two for years. You are the best friends that could possibly exist on this planet and I thank the Almighty that this happened but it has been a while since I noticed something else and I am tired, tired of seeing you beat around the bush."
Ma, I don't know what you are talking about.
Angela, I don't understand what you mean!"
Angela looked at Maura and saw that she was indeed not lying because she did not have hives so she said in an even more serious voice:
"Oh, please! Don't tell me you don't understand what I mean because I don't believe you!"
Jane said
"Then explain it to us Ma!"
Angela rubbed her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose between her fingers and sighed:
"But I am talking about you! The two of you! You love each other! It is obvious to everyone except you two."
Jane said
"Yes, I love Maura she's my best friend"
Angela said:
"No, I'm not talking about that"
Maura started to blush and lowered her head and it annoyed Jane who said harshly:
"Ma! Stop it! You can see that Maura is embarrassed, you want to see me as a couple so much that..."
Angela interrupted Jane and said just as firmly
"Jane! I know you know I'm right! What do you think you're talking about? I'm your mother and I know you better than anyone and over time, I've gotten to know Maura! You're in love with each other, and it's time you admitted it. How long have you and Maura been acting like a couple, I'd even say like a married couple?
Maura looked up and said
"Angela, I..."
Angela softened and said
"Maura, you and Jane work together, you live together, you date and you even sleep together"
Jane and Maura widened their eyes and said
"Ma!
Angela!"
Angela continued and said:
"How many times have I seen you sleeping cuddled up against each other on that couch, or on the one in Maura's office, or in your bed in your apartment, the rare times you sleep there, or in Maura's bed? Do you think that when you wake up with blankets on you, that they came by an action of the Holy Spirit?" Angela saw that Jane was going to say something but she didn't let her speak and said "Jane? Who else have you agreed to go to the opera with? Who else have you agreed to eat vegetarian or even vegan food with? Who else have you agreed to wear a dress and stilettos and really wear makeup with? When you were with Casey, you always refused to wear a dress, stilettos and makeup and yet, at one point you really loved each other! I'll tell you who you did that for! You did all this just for Maura!
Angela turned to Maura and said
"Maura? Who else did you agree to go to baseball games with? Who else did you agree to eat a burger and fries with at a place like the Dirty Robber? Who else did you agree to wear sweatpants or a t-shirt with your yoga pants on a Sunday morning, especially since the sweatpants or t-shirts in question are BPD and judging by the size, they are not yours. I'll tell you! You only did this with Jane!"
Angela smiled and said
"Two more questions that I ask you both. You are beautiful women so why are you still single when many men would dream of living with you? And no! Don't tell me it's because of your job. Not all women who are detectives and all women who are forensic scientists are single! It can impress a man, I know that very well but it's not an obstacle! And especially why when one had a relationship, why were you jealous of the man who shared the other's life? I remember what happened when Casey and Ian came back! You were jealous because you wanted to be in their place!"
Jane and Maura looked at each other and knew that Angela was right. They were in love with each other and had been for a while.
Jane took Maura's hand and said:
"Ma, it's more complicated than you think
So what Jane? Love isn't supposed to be simple. It's supposed to be real, lasting and sometimes complicated. I've been there. My love for your father was real, lasting and sometimes complicated and the love I have for Vince is real and lasting! When you look at each other, when you talk to each other, when you cuddle, it's love, real love and I can't stand to see you miss out on happiness because you don't dare to come out of the closet!
"Angela, you don't understand..."
No, you're the one who doesn't understand. Life is too short to have regrets. Maura, you're like a daughter to me, and I want your happiness as much as Jane's. I'm a believer and a practicing Christian but you see I want you to be together!
"Angela what will Frankie and Tommy say?
And Vince Ma? What do you think he thinks about this?
Because you think they don't think like me? We all think you two would be very happy together and Tommy says Maura is a perfect aunt for TJ and Vince told me a while ago that you two would be a perfect couple and I told him he was right and he hasn't changed his mind. As for Frost, he thinks like us.
Ma. I... I don't know what to say.
You don't have to say anything. You and Maura just have to do what your heart tells you. And we'll all be there no matter what. We'll always support you."
Jane and Maura look at each other, Angela's words echoing in their minds, a mixture of hope and love in their eyes.
Angela says,
"I'll let you talk it out between yourselves but please, open your eyes! Your happiness is here!" Don't miss it! "
After Angela left, a heavy silence fell between Jane and Maura. Angela's words had left an echo in the room, a call to action that couldn't be ignored. Jane stood up, starting to clear the table, but her movements were mechanical, her mind elsewhere. Maura, on the other hand, remained seated, her eyes fixed on an invisible point beyond the kitchen walls. Finally, it was Jane who broke the silence and she asked without turning around,
"Do you think Ma's right?"
Maura stood up slowly, approaching Jane. And said softly:
"I think she sees what we've been trying to hide for too long."
Jane set the plate she was holding in the dishwasher and turned to Maura and said,
"What if we make a mistake? What if it changes everything between us?"
Maura took a deep breath and said,
"What if doing nothing is the mistake? What if we're missing out on something wonderful?"
The words were heavy with truth and emotion. Jane stepped closer, closing the space between them and whispered,
"I don't want to lose what we have, I don't want to lose you Maura."
Maura said in a firm but gentle voice,
"We won't lose what we have and you won't lose me Jane! But we could gain so much more."
Jane nodded, a decision forming in her mind and she said, looking the honey blonde straight in the eye,
"Ma's right Maura! I love you, Maura. I love you in a way I've never loved anyone."
Maura smiled, tears in her eyes and said as she ran her hand through Jane's unruly black curls
"I love you too, Jane. I was afraid to admit it but I love you."
They moved closer, their hands finding each other naturally.
Jane felt her heart pound and said,
"So we do this? We take this risk?"
Maura felt her heart beat much faster and said happily and lovingly
"Yes Jane! We take it! It's not a risk! It's a joy! We do what we should have done a long time ago."
And in the warmth of the kitchen, where the last vestiges of Angela's dinner were fading, Jane and Maura kissed, sealing their love with a kiss at first chaste then softer and finally very loving that promised a future together, no matter the challenges to come then after breaking the kiss, the two women looked into each other's eyes and Maura said in a tender and loving voice
"Jane Clementine Rizzoli, take me to bed!
But why didn't I have this idea before today? We're going to make up for lost time.
That's all I ask
I just have one last thing to do before that."
The next morning, Angela entered Maura's house and went to the kitchen to make breakfast and she saw a sheet that was taped to the door of the cupboard where everything needed for breakfast was and recognized her daughter's handwriting and Angela read what was written
"Ma, thank you very much for yesterday and especially don't go up and put a blanket on Maura and me. We don't need it"
Angela laughed softly because she had understood that Maura and Jane had finally taken the plunge and while smiling, she prepared breakfast and she was looking forward to seeing Jane and Maura arrive with smiles on their faces. "
End
I hope you enjoyed this story.
All criticism is good to take as long as it is said politely.
Take care of yourself and see you next time.
