One Simple World

Chapter 6: Simply Burned

Frisk's Point of View:

I was going to be sick from how much killing Chara had just done...

It had been a few days since we left the woods, Chara trying to escape the armored guard members who were on the lookout either for us or the family that she'd taken out along that path into town, the two bears and the lizard boy.

She snuck into town after the first wave of them made their way through, finding a small house where just a little old man seemed to live alone. He didn't even know that we were in the home when she took him out, his dust lost to the open window she left by his bed.

From there she grabbed new, clean clothes from that home and rushed to other buildings trying to get a soul as more people died, and I was somehow able to stop her from grabbing the souls.

You know this is going to keep happening if you don't stop Francine.

She made her way into a few other homes. Random people where only a couple of people lived at a time. Every time she would change clothes from her victim'shomes to avoid people seeing the blood, or the dust on her. No one could see her for what she was, a child sized murderer.

Stop holding me back, Francine. The longer you hold me back, the longer you suffer.

I suffer regardless, you bitch.

Over the course of a long weekend she bought herself a room in the inn, then took them out in the night. Her magic was insane as she kept summoning weapons that would vanish so there was no weapon left behind, along with the body that would dissipate to dust upon death. Chara knew too well how to do this. I actually became sick with how many people were killed, and how many horrific faces I had to see of people... kids... that were killed.

Chara couldn't control me when I threw up all over the dissipated body of mother and kid's ashes behind that counter in the front entry room.

Meticulously, she made her way through the town to kill as many as she could, quietly and carefully It was horrifying just how many times she was able to do as she was. So many houses she'd taken down... so many people were dusted...

It was awful...

When I next blinked my eyes to see what Chara was doing, she was dressed in new clothes and had a hot shower to clean us up from the most recent family that she'd killed. Out into the snowy world we went again to the next house up the street. This time... it was actually a restaurant. Chara paused before letting us go inside to see who was there. A small group was inside. People made of fire, three of them, along with two men in armor.

Chara was taking a risk heading into that building. Even if there were so few people there, the two people in armor were the biggest risk that she could foresee. She wouldn't go in and attemptto go for the small fire family there unless the guards were gone. She patiently waited just out of the corner of the window looking in.

Please... please don't leave that familyalone. Please stay there as long as possible...

You know they won't stay there forever, Francine. I just have to wait patiently.

Oh for the love God, will you shut up?!

I could hear her chuckling in the back of her head. Perhaps, what will you offer me for that peace and quiet in our mind? Perhaps a soul?

No way! Go back to hell where you belong!

Hell never accepted me, and you have no way of getting rid of me other than giving me what I want.

I couldn't even cry, was there really nothing that I could do in this situation besides having her use my body for whatever she wanted? Was there any way to make her weaker? Was there any way to stop her?

How many people had to die before she gave up?

It wouldn't be so many if you just gave in.

Never!

Movement caught the attention of both Chara and I as we sat outside in the cold. Just barely visible on the edge of the large picture window did we see the guardsmen move from their seats at the counter. Paying out some gold for their food, I watched the two guardsmen level after putting back on their helmets. One was a bunny man and the other was a dragon man.

Muffled voices were inside that we could hear before the two of them walked out, the door letting a wave of hot air outside to defrost our fingers and nose.

"Have a good night Grillby. Stay safe. And remember what I warned you about."

It was the bunny man in red armor that said that before the two took off back into the town. Chara walked up to the door, trying to appear as normal as possible as she hurried in the door after the guards. The second one paused for just a second to open the door for us, and Chara, using my voice again, spoke to them.

"Thank you, Mr. Guard."

"Not a problem. Stay warm, little one."

Without even being noticed, Chara stealthily made it inside the establishment. Quickly making her way up to the counter she sat before the woman who stood at the counter running around the bar. She was a fire person, like the other two with bright green flames. She and the little girl looked just like each other, while the man was a normal colored red flame. The male watched us while the woman came up to us, leaning over the counter with a small menu in hand.

"Hey there sweetheart. You caught us just before we closed for the night." She was trying to be friendly to us. "You're out awfully late, everything okay? I don't think I've seen you by here before."

"S-sorry... Mom wasn't feeling good... she asked me to come and get food for us." Chara was using my sweet voice to be incredibly convincing. "She sent me with some money... Can I get something to eat... please?"

"Of course you can." The woman turned her head to the red fire man. "Honey, can you get a soup going? For her mother. And I need to find out what you'd like sweetie."

The menu was slid over to us a little closer as the woman stepped back. She hurried along the counter to grab an empty glass while she worked diligently at the bar.

"I'll get you something to drink while you look that over and then my husband can make you something delicious to eat. Just let me know what you'd like-"

"A juicy cheeseburger!" It was my cry that rang out over Chara's mind. Food, my one passion. I should have known... "Fries! And a milkshake!"

The woman could only nod, laughing at me. "Of course, sweetie. Honey? Cheeseburger with all the toppingsand fires. I've got the milkshake. Here's some water while you wait. What flavor?"

"Chocolate!"

"Coming right up."

Really? I could hear Chara in the back of our mind. Her tone was unimpressed at best. That's what you want for food?

You know nothing about the amazingness of a cheeseburger! Plus, you've been making me eat all sorts of weird food! I need something that's actually tasty!

I'mtrying to make sure that we have something healthy in our bodies. We don't need all those carbs or else we won't have the proper energy. Besides, there's nothing wrong with what I've made for us for food. And keep in mind, I'm nota chef. I'm a child. I'd like to see you do better.

Give me controlof my body and I will.

Fat chance, Francine. Like I'd give up this prized husk. Of all the humans that have fallen and died or survived the fall in those caverns, you are the onlyone that I have been able to merge with. You're the only one that had a soul similar to my own. Your body was the only one compatible with my soul.

Then suck my metaphoricaldick, princess.

Oh my... what foul language. Wouldn't your sister be absolutelycross with you.

When I find her, I hope she rubs so much soap in our mouth to scrub you out of me if I cuss enough.

But there is no sister coming for you. She's dead, and you killed her. Don't you remember?

Even you don't know if that's true or not! That's only what you believe! I believe that she's alive and is going to stop you once she figures out what happened. And don't think your little tricks will work on her. You may know how to act like me from seeing my memories, but she'll know. She has an unimaginable sense that would be able to pick up on it! She'll know it's not me!

And that was when I could feel Chara retreat for a moment to think. Because she knew I was right. She knew that Angel was one of the few people who could tell if it was me or not. But... it was a matter if she was alive or not. But we had no way of knowing. And she was trying to keep us out of public as much as possible. Angel could literally be down the street from me and we wouldn't know it, and she wouldn't either.

That's how horrible it was.

"Here you go, sweetie." Before me was set a large chocolate milkshake along with a fairly large cheeseburger with seasoned fries. The fresh, crisp smell of them along with the juices that almost oozed out of them made me drool. "You enjoy, eat up. And that soup for your mother will be done in another ten minutes.

"Thank you!"

Before Chara could snap hold of me again, I dove into my meal. It was probably going to be one of the last good meals I was going to be able to enjoy in whatever was left of this short life of mine. I had to enjoy what I could when I had the chance.

"Fuku?" The woman called out for her child. "Time to get ready for bed my little one, head upstairs."

"Okay Mommy!"

The little girl hurried upstairs and her mother quickly left the counter space. Once she was past it, she looked back at us. "Enjoy your meal, my husband will bring out the soup and talk of payment when he comes out."

Oh no...

Oh yes.

Chara used that time to move away from the counter when everyone was out of view. The husband was busy, and the mother and child were in the upper level. With the remaining bites of my meal left alone, Chara took control to walk up the stairs quietly to follow up on the mother and child. She pushed open the door that led to the living room space of their home above where the little girl seemed to be taking care of some of her toys while her mother was away for the moment.

Perfect.

Chara summoned her magic so fast into her hands, creating a small knife that she threw at the child. The little one didn't even have a second to react before the knife pierced through her neck. She croaked softly, unable to utter a sound before she fell, the magical blade vanished and the girl shattered into dust. Her tiny soul didn't even last a second for Chara to grab before it shattered and was gone.

Then it was quiet. Chara took that time to hover behind a door to watch for the mother. Her magical weapon vanished at her command so no evidence was visible.

"Fuku? Did you finish taking care of your toys?"

Chara lied in wait for her to round the corner. The woman was just barely in view when we heard her voice. Already my soul was aching at the loss of the little girl. She was barely five!

How many more have to die?!

As many as I have to until I get what I want. Stop getting in my way and I won't have to kill as many.

The mother came around into view, looking for her little girl. I saw her come around the corner of the couch that sat there before the TV where the daughter had been only moments prior. The mother called and called for her little one before she paused at the pile of dust, as well as the red stains on the toys the girl had been holding.

"F-fuku?!"

And it was when the mother's back was turned that Chara rushed out to strike. Her blade at the ready that she summoned into her hand. She darted forward and cut the woman's neck to prevent her from screaming.

But that was when Chara finally fucked up.

Even with her neck cut, the woman was able to use the last few seconds of her life to turn around and face us. The flames on her body glowed much hotter and brighter, before her body did something I was hoping for.

She exploded.

Chara dived out of the way to a hiding spot, throwing up a table on its side, to hide from the explosion. But the damage was done. The woman's soul went along with body and shattered in the explosion. To make matters worse for Chara, the second floor's windows blasted out and the second floor was set aflame. There was a high possibility that someone noticed there was something wrong and Chara would be caught.

Yes! Eat shit, you bitch!

Be quiet Francine. You're ruining my train of thought. I need to figure a way out of this mess.

Good luck before the dad gets here-

And just as I was thinking that, the door to the second floor burst open and the flames grew so much. Smoke blasted through the second floor as the very man I was thinking of came rushing into the living room. His flames burned and spread the fire even faster. He would most likely survive in it, we would not. That's honestly what I was hoping for if I could get this to stop... to get Chara to stop.

Another burst of flames shot out of the building, sending out alarms to all that could see it. I hopped that those guards who were there a short while ago would come back

The male kept putting out puffs of flames around himself to keep Chara at bay. He knew she was there, but there was no way to know which item she was hidden behind.

Damn... this one is clever...

I hope this one beats you.

You'll die if it beats us, you fool!

At least then I won't be involvedwith killing people anymore!

But our internal fighting was stopped once the flame male blasted the table out of the way to see us directly behind it. With a deep roar of rage, he threw his arms forward and fire came flying from his arms. Chara had seconds to dive out of the way before more items were melting or breaking around her. Chara screamed as some items exploded against her skin, or blasted with direct flames. Part of her clothes catches fire, which she hurls off herself to show her-our human form.

She hurried to summon weapons while also tending to the burns that licked at her side. Her healing wasn't that good, no better than my own. She didn't have the energy to use both kinds of magic at the same time when the fire man leapt forward. Chara couldn't run fast enough to evade him as his hands managed to latch around our throat. We both screamed at the pain the man was giving us.

"MURDERER! MURDERER!" The screams that came from his mouth, what I guessed was his saliva looked like molten lava as it burned our face.

I tried to hold Chara back, to take as many of those hits as I could. I needed to get Chara killed or taken down... I had to!

But Chara was stronger with someone hurting us.

She summoned a new weapon. Pushed by her rage, the knife she summoned was larger than normal. While his hands were wrapped around our neck, she shoved the knife multiple times into his side. She hurled it into as many spots as she could into his chest area to get him to free herself.

He was a stronger soul. She wanted him if she could. I knew it.

The male screeched out just as we head a door below us slam open on the lower level.

"GRILLBY?! SARA!? FUKU!?"

The guards came back!

Goddamn it!

As Chara was trying to think of what she could do next while still slamming her knife into his chest. The male screeched before his body turned brighter and bubbled up.

Yes! He's gonna explode!

Chara couldn't stop the attack coming as she was trapped to the floor by his hands. Full blast we were hit but the fire, in which Chara screamed out until the hands were no longer present. The body exploded as well as the soul of the man. It shattered against us and Chara had seconds to act as she heard the footsteps approaching.

Just lie down and die, give up Chara.

I'm not giving up. After all, I have a soul of determination, just like you.

Witch's Note:

Ah, more murder in the morning… if I was a murder, I'd be enjoying it. But alas, I'm not. But this is all part of the road we're on together with these characters. Now we watch as many of the Snowdin residents have been slain one by one, hinting at the dear bunny family we know and love, while promptly showing us the Grillby family going down. The guards have caught on, but do you actually think Chara will just lie down and quit?

Mystic Girl: Of course not… we have more than ten chapters left…

Me: Even so, this doesn't mean that a blow has not been made to them. Both girls are going through quite the ordeal right now. But what's next?

Mystic Girl: Oh no… don't tell me…

Me: I won't, because you know exactly what's happening next time.

Mystic Girl: NO! NONONONONONONONONONO-

Me: But we have reviews to do. I'll get to those while you have a moment, Mystic.

Thechaosmaster: Even more death be coming my beloved friends… Unfortunately, I'll tear apart all that you know and love in this story… and throw it in your face.

The nature of a genocide I'm afraid. Even if I really don't like it myself, but it's a part that we have to face.

I will continue to post it, no matter how hard it is… and next chapter? Honestly, it does bring tears to my eyes. So fair warning for all.

But its exciting to hear even vague plans for your story you plan to write. I hope it works out the way you want it and have fun with it. Subnuatica is so open ended you could take it any direction and it could make sense.

Shadow8Phantom: Yes, your entirely right that they are suffering. There's not much to mention besides how much the girls are going through. And we all know Angel's close… but we don't know how close or if this is taking place at the same time. Hopefully we'll have the clarification soon. Because there's no way that Sans wouldn't get involved if there was an explosion in town.

But yes, none of the ideas everyone put out where on point. So hopefully as the story goes on, you'll see what we have planned and perhaps give you ideas for a better hint.

But now we reach another sad episode to be posted, and many more to come. I won't say much more because Mystic Girl is already so upset-

Mystic Girl: WAH! I DON'T WANT THIS-

Me: So we'll end this on a reasonable note-ish. XD I'll see you guys all next week.

PS: Sorry for the late update this morning. Had some issues with my stepson this morning…
