A/N: I do not own any character references by JK Rowling in the Harry Potter series. This story is a product of my pure imagination.

Cards on the table
Mine play out like fools in a fable, oh.
It was sinking in
Slow is the quicksand
Poison blood from the wound of the pricked hand
Oh, still, I dream of him.

Please
I've been on my knees.
Change the prophecy
Don't want money
Just someone who wants my company
Let it once be me
Who do I have to speak to
About if they can redo
The prophecy?

*~*~* June 9, 2002 *~*~*

Hermione heard the movement of her doorknob behind her as she sat in her bedroom on the floor surrounded by books and parchment, "Stop!" She yelled as she sat cross-legged on the floor, furiously scribbling in her notebook as she revised her thesis.

Glancing behind her, she saw Harry at the doorway, his eyes widening at the sight before him, "Hermione?"

"Harry! Be careful, don't move any closer. You might step on something important, and I'll lose my place!" She stated.

Harry chuckled, raising his hands in surrender, taking in the whirlwind of parchment and notes taped to nearly every surface of her bedroom walls, stacks of books covering almost every available surface, and Hermione in the middle of the fray.

*~*~* February 23, 2008 *~*~*

"I'll admit I was afraid for her sanity that day," Harry stated as he walked into Hermione's office and sat down next to her, taking her feet into his lap, "There was parchment or books on every surface of her bedroom. You think I'm overestimating, but I'm not."

Hermione sighed, "I had my thesis page by page on the walls. What supported it each page was underneath it."

"Hermione has always thrown her full self into everything she does, but graduating with her master's degree almost tipped her over the edge," Harry stated as Hermione bumped his leg with her foot, "I'm being honest, sweetheart. Your hair was a mess from you pulling at it. Here's the thing, Luna," Harry stated as he looked at Luna, "Hermione gets hot when she overworks herself. Slowly, more and more layers come off. I walked in on her at Hogwarts once and nearly blew a load because she was studying and was in just her knickers and a bra."

Hermione blushed, "It was a hot day!"

"It was hot, alright," Harry grinned, "Between that moment and you in those short shorts, why I didn't act on my feelings is beyond me."

"So you had them?" Luna asked.

Harry looked at her, "Am I a man? Of course, I thought she was hot even when I was with Ginny, but I didn't want to mess things up between us. If Ginny and I didn't work, I knew we would still be friends, and Ron wouldn't hate me. I could lose the Weasleys, but that killed me the most."

Hermione looked at him, "That is what killed you the most? Not the thought of losing your relationship with Ginny, but the Weasleys?" Hermione huffed, "You waited that fucking long, and it was because of Molly?!"

"And the rest of the family. I didn't want to lose them. Other than you, Ron, Teddy, and Mum, I didn't have anyone after we got close. The last thing I wanted to do was lose them," Harry confessed, "But I'm getting ahead of myself. Continue with your story because that day was significant for me, too."

Hermione sighed as she closed her eyes, "Lord help me."

*~*~* June 9, 2002 *~*~*

Harry gingerly navigated through the maze of papers and books, finally reaching the bed where stacks of books lay. He sat down momentarily and watched Hermione as she summoned parchments and documents and then returned them after finding what she wanted. Grabbing one of her pillows, he cast a freezing charm over the papers in the room so nothing would be disturbed. Without warning, he swung the pillow, hitting Hermione.

Hermione looked at him, eyes wide in shock, "Harry! What the fuck do you think you are doing? You ruined my-" She yelled as he hit her again with a grin.

"I froze everything," Harry told her with a grin, "You need to get out of your head."

This time, when he swung the pillow at her, she ducked. A grin spread across her face, and she wandlessly summoned her other pillow. "You are so going to regret that!" She laughed, swinging the pillow at him.

A full-blown pillow fight ensued. Ron glanced at the commotion to see feathers flying everywhere. Hermione jumped on Harry's back, laughter echoing through the room as they attacked each other, "You both have officially lost it."

Harry looked at him, glasses hanging off one ear, "Hermione needed a study break."

Ron shook his head, "You are both weird, don't let me interrupt."

Hermione smacked Harry in the face with her nearly empty pillowcase, sending his glasses flying. Harry dived forward, and she slid off his back.

Sitting on the floor after finding his glasses to catch his breath, Hermione pounded on him, pinning him to the floor. Out of breath, she pushed her short hair out of her flushed face as she looked down at him, her face hurting from smiling so much.

Harry's laughter faded as he looked up at her. She watched his Adam's apple bob in his throat as he swallowed, his gaze heavy on her. Tilting her head in confusion, she let go of his hand, sitting back on her legs that straddled his own, "Are you alright, Harry? Did I hit you too hard?"

Harry shook his head, voice out of breath and rough, "No, I'm fine. Just… you know, Hermione, you are stressing yourself out with all this studying. You know more than anyone else I know. You are going to ace this test even without more studying."

Hermione sighed as she got off his body and sat on the floor, elated at his words but frustrated simultaneously, "I know, but there is just so much to do. I have to study my entire Master's program because I don't know what they will pick to test me on, so I have to revise my thesis. I'm constantly finding something I missed."

Harry sat up and took her hands in his, "Tell you what. Let's pick Teddy up from Andromeda's and get some ice cream. A little break won't hurt; then you can come back refreshed, and maybe you'll be able to think better."

*~*~* February 23, 2008 *~*~*

"Truth was, I had to get out of that room. She was flushed, her chest heaving, and she wore this thin white tank top. Suddenly, she was close enough. I could see her tits and could feel the heat of her body through those damn black short shorts she was wearing," Harry stated, "My brain didn't know what to do with what I was feeling. I felt the feelings I'd always felt for her, but it suddenly felt more. I was with Ginny and didn't know what to do with them."

"So that day was a significant one for you?" Luna stated.

"Hell yeah, but I felt torn," Harry confessed.

Hermione shook her head, "We were idiots."

Harry nodded, "Completely. Both were thinking of each other, not wanting to hurt each other, but still hurting each other because we were doing what we THOUGHT was right for them."

"But I did need the study break. Harry knew I needed it. We spent the afternoon with Andromeda and Teddy and went out for ice cream, which helped my brain reset. I don't know it, but I tend to overwork myself," Hermione glared at Harry's scoff, "And Harry does know me better than myself to understand when it is time to stop. Even before our romantic relationship, he knew me."

*~*~* June 22, 2002 *~*~*

People were buzzing with excitement all around her as they dawned their robes for graduation from Cambridge University of Magical Studies. She succeeded today and received her Master's certificate in Magical Law. Not only would she be able to study Magical Law, but because of Cambridge University, she would be able to be a solicitor for Muggle means as well. All her tireless work had paid off. Taking a deep breath, she slowly blew it out as she saw her reflection in the glass of a picture advertising a play that would be held in the theater where graduation was being held. Her black robes stated her status as a Juris Master, which covered her black pencil skirt and blue blouse, which Daphne had said made her look serious. Someone from the University fixed her Master's hood, guaranteeing that the light-cherry silk was showing.

"Thank you," Hermione stated as she smoothed down the front of her robes.

After they were called to assemble, Hermione swallowed hard as she listened for her name and found her place in line. After ten minutes, she was close enough to the stage to see out to the audience. Knowing the approximate place her family had been last she had seen them, she bit her lip, trying not to smile as she saw Teddy's bright blue standing out in the crowd. He sat on Harry's lap in the front row. Her godson was squirming with excitement as Harry whispered in his ear. Andromeda went to Harry's right with a camera in her hand, Kingsley on her right with his guards taking up the remaining row area, and all were in muggle suits. On Harry's other side sat her Mum talking to her Dad, who had surprised her by coming up from Australia to be with her. He stated again that biology did not matter to him; he was to make more effort in their relationship. Mr. Weasley must have said something to her Dad as he turned to say something to Arthur, and Molly, Ron, and even George and Angelina filled most of the row. Ginny had a match, and as the Harpies were one game away from clinching the playoffs, she could not attend.

Hermione slowly inched closer to the stage as names began to be called. When her name was finally called, she walked across the stage to receive her diploma. The applause from her makeshift family seemed louder than any other. She shook hands with all the university dignitaries, her heart pounding. Glancing at her parents, she saw her Mum beaming as she wiped her tears. Holding up her diploma, she exited the stage.

Someone from the university came over to unpin her hood, and a fellow graduate glanced at her, "Is it true you earned your Master's in less than a year?" She asked.

Hermione nodded, "I started in October."

The woman shook her head, "I knew you were the brightest witch, but you are smarter than anyone knows."

After being released to find her family, she found her group gathered outside. They greeted her with hugs and exclamations of congratulations. Harry hugged her tightly as Teddy hugged her around her middle, "I knew you could do it, Hermione. I'm so proud of you," He whispered in her ear.

Teddy tugged on her robes, and she looked down at him as he grinned wide-eyed, "You're a real witch now, Mommy!"

Hermione laughed as she ruffled his hair, "Honey, I've always been a witch, but now I'm a witch armed with a Master's Degree."

Kingsley walked over smiling, "To celebrate my future full-time Ministry employee, I've made reservations at a special place just outside Diagon Alley."

Harry took Teddy to the loo as Molly looked at her as they all ventured for the exit, "When are you starting at the Ministry? Ron said that your internship ends."

Hermione blushed as Kingsley gave her a look, "I decided that I am taking some time off to enjoy my summer. I'll start at the Ministry in September if they have me."

Kingsley's booming laugh echoed through the annex of the building as they all started exiting the building, "Molly, I already have her name on a door. She could start on Monday if she wanted."

Kingsley's guards led their group to the closest apparition zone, and Hermione apparated her Mother to Diagon Alley. Ron appeared beside her, with her father, "Thank you," Hermione stated as she released her mother, who was shaking her head.

"That is an awful feeling," Juliet frowned as pops echoed as the rest of their party arrived. Finally, Harry appeared with Teddy silently, "Sorry, there was a line."

Her Dad walked over to her, putting his arm over her shoulders. As the guards and Kingsley led them towards the restaurant, her Dad whispered, "Just a small observation, but why did everyone pop when they landed, but Harry?"

Hermione glanced towards Harry as he put Teddy on his shoulders, making her godson laugh, "Because Harry has more… power to his magical core. The more control you have over your magical core and power behind it, the quieter you can pop in and out."

"So you are pretty powerful then, too? I barely heard you leave with your Mum," Dan stated.

Hermione shrugged, "I guess."

Tucked next to Ollivander's shop and across from Crave was a new Alley labeled Mullioned Alley. Walking beside Harry, she frowned, "This alley wasn't here in February."

"When many places were burned down after the Death Eaters, they decided to rebuild many businesses. Ollivander took the building to the other side of his shoppe since they burnt down the repair portion of his building. It was larger, so he expanded. When Mulpepper's moved to the other end of the Alley, Crave went into it and took up other buildings too. This alley was added after two Knockturn Alley locations were torn down. It parallels Knockturn, which the MLE is trying to shut down many shoppes. Still, there are some legitimate ones," Harry informed her, "Mullioned Alley is beginning to be the upscale portion of wizarding England. The boutique and this restaurant are the first two to open. Il Venetian is what it is called, and its reservations only."

Hermione took in the large glass windows that were misted to prevent people from seeing inside them, "Usually, places like this won't allow children. Will Teddy be allowed in?"

Kingsley led the way inside, greeted by a host, who ushered their group into a private dining room. The room screamed magical, with an enchanted ceiling that held a chandelier that cast a soft but warm glow. Surprisingly, the windows did not show the alley beyond them, but a beautiful landscape that must have been as if it were in Venice, Italy. Teddy gasped, running to the window. A boat sailed past their window as if it were just on the other side.

Harry pulled her chair out as they settled into the elegantly set long table. Hermione picked up her menu, featuring various Italian magical dishes.

"Kingsley, this place is marvelous," Molly stated, "I feel as if we are actually in Italy."

"I'm glad. That is the feel that we are going for here."

Hermione looked behind her, "Blaise! Is this your place?"

"My Mother's actually, but I am the partial owner and own the winery which provides the wine," Blaise stated as he leaned on the back of her chair, "Congratulations, Granger, you are the swot of all swots."

Hermione rolled her eyes as Blaise looked at Kingsley, "Minister, what we discussed works."

"Thank you, Mr. Zabini," Kingsley stated as Blaise left them as a woman called for him, "Dinner is being covered by Mr. Zabini and me, so please do not worry about prices."

Arthur frowned, "Kingsley, that is too much."

"Mr. Zabini and I came to an understanding. A few press members will be outside when we leave, and I will talk about the restaurant. They will get free press," Kingsley stated as someone came over to pour wine for them.

The conversation started flowing, along with wine, Butterbeer, milk, and pumpkin juice for Teddy. Hermione glanced at her parents as they chatted with the Weasleys, Andromeda and Kingsley. Teddy was sitting between Andromeda and Harry, giggling at the bubbles rising from his milk after Harry showed him how to make bubbles.

Glancing at her, Harry rose to stand, making everyone in the room quiet enough to look at him. Raising his glass, he smiled at her, "I just wish to make a quick toast. To Hermione, who never ceases to amaze us with her determination. Here is to all your past incredible achievements, including keeping Ron and me alive." Ron raised his glass, "Here, here to that!" Hermione just smiled. "And to your extremely bright future ahead," Harry stated.

Everyone cheered her name, glasses clinking, and Hermione felt a warm spread through her as Harry sat beside her and squeezed her hand. Glancing over her head at Ron, he winked, causing Hermione to glance between them, "What?"

"Nothing," Ron said with a smile.

Hermione reached for her glass, and suddenly, she was between two wizards kissing her cheeks simultaneously.

Ron laughed, "Did you get it?"

George held up his camera, "Got it!"

As the evening drew to a close, Hermione looked around the table as dessert and coffee was passed to everyone. Her parents were asking endless questions that all the wizards were happy to answer as they reminisced about years gone by.

"You okay?" Harry asked, elbowing her.

Hermione nodded, resting her head on his shoulder, "Never been happier. This is my family, Harry. Our ragtag assembled group, and I wouldn't have it any other way."

*~*~* June 23, 2002 *~*~*

Hermione glanced up from her breakfast as an owl tapping the window echoed through the kitchen. Standing up, she opened the window, and the owl flew inside. After paying the owl and taking its load, it flew back into the rapidly warming morning air. Shutting the window to keep the cool air inside, Hermione walked over to a small kitchen table and unfurled the Daily Prophet. Groaning when she saw her own face, she spotted the headline.

Daily Prophet Exclusive: Minster Shacklebolt and the Golden Trio's Secret Celebration!

By Rita Skeeter

London- In a display of power and prestige, our Minister of Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt, was spotted exiting the new restaurant in the new Mullioned Alley, El Venetian. An upscale wizarding restaurant is already known for its exclusivity and culinary delights. Shacklebolt was not alone. Accompanying him were none other than our Golden Trio- Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and the Weasley clan!

Eyewitnesses report that the group appeared to have enjoyed an evening of fine dining at the new establishment. What, you may ask, was the occasion for such a gathering of the wizarding world's most famous? The Minister provided the answer, stating that they were celebrating Hermione Granger's graduation from Cambridge University's new magical university with her Juris Masters in Magical Law.

This reporter could not believe the bias shown as Minister Shacklebolt did not hide his pride as he spoke exclusively to this reporter. "We are incredibly proud of Hermione's accomplishments. Her dedication and brilliance have always been evident, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Ministry this fall."

But the night wasn't only about her academic achievements. Under the ever-keen eye of this reporter was a particularly intriguing sight. Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, the Man Who Conquered, and the savior of the wizarding world, held his part-werewolf godson, Teddy Lupin while keeping a notably close arm around Hermione Granger as they exited the restaurant. This intimate display raises questions this reporter has been asking since their Hogwarts years: How close have Potter and Granger become?

Despite Potter's well-publicized relationship with Ginny Weasley, the star chaser for the Holyhead Harpies (who was not present), his actions last time suggest there may be more to the story. Sources close to the trio reveal that Potter and Granger have been spending an extraordinary amount of time together and even live together, prompting whispers of Ginny Weasley being a fake girlfriend to avoid the spotlight on two parts of the trio. Is there something more complex at play?

As always, the Weasley family was out in full support of the Golden Trio. Ron Weasley, the ever-loyal third of the trip, seemed to share in the joy of his best friend and past lover's achievements and perhaps the potential complication for a love triangle brewing for the trio behind closed doors.

This celebration highlights Hermione Granger's pull with powerful wizards and sets the stage for an interesting future for the Ministry. Will Granger's entry signal a new era of legal reform? What will become of the relationships between our beloved heroes? Only time will tell, but this reporter will be watching every step of the way. Stay tuned to the Daily Prophet for the latest updates on the unfolding story.

"You know you sound like Crookshanks," Harry stated, walking into the kitchen to her growls, "What did Rita write now?"

Hermione looked at him, "How did you know it was Rita?"

"You are holding the Prophet, and you growled like a cat… it had to be her," Harry said, taking the Prophet from her and sitting at the small table across from her.

"I wish I could squish her like a bug," Hermione mumbled as she got up and got more coffee, "Just for the comment about Teddy alone. Part werewolf, my arse."

Harry groaned, "Ginny isn't going to like this."

"She won't, but she knows it isn't true," Hermione rolled her eyes, "Rita just loves to start shite with me knowing I could crush her if she pushes me too far. The world isn't ready for us. Just wait."

Harry grinned, "I'm all for evil Hermione."

Hermione leaned against the counter and sipped her coffee, "I have nearly daily lunch with two Slytherins that tell me I should have been one. Don't get me started."

"Harry?!" Ginny's shrill voice, which reminded Hermione so much of Molly, echoed through the house.

Harry stood up, "And there she calls."

"Don't let her upset you about what Rita wrote," Hermione told him as he left the kitchen.

*~*~* July 10, 2002 *~*~*

"So," Theo said as he sat across from her at the Leaky Cauldron. She went to put a forkful of salad into her mouth, "A birdy told me that you are on the dating scene."

Hermione set her fork down as she chewed her food, "Why are you asking, and why aren't you at work?" She asked after swallowing.

"Did you really sign up for a Muggle dating site? They could be crazy or murderers," Theo said in disbelief, "I would know. My father was both."

Hermione just stared at him, "Who told you?"

"Daphne, but that doesn't matter. I bet you three galleons that I find you a great wizard before you find a muggle you like," Theo told her.

"I could fall for a Muggle. I was a Muggle, if you remember," Hermione told him, affronted.

"Yeah, you left that world behind when you were eleven, darling. We are a big part of your life, and to hide that until you are serious? Please," Theo said as he got up, "I'm going out scouting, and I'll let you know."

"Theo! Theo Nott, no!" Hermione yelled and sighed as everyone in the bar looked at her like she was crazy. "Sorry."

"You want me to do what?" Hermione asked Kingsley as he stood in her sitting room.

Kingsley sighed, "The witch in charge of the Enchanted Forest Preservation Society came to me today requesting you. She tried contacting you at your ministry office, but you aren't there yet. Which, by the way, bored yet?"

Hermione crossed her arms over her chest, "No, I still have quite a few projects to accomplish."

Kingsley sighed, "Thought I'd ask. Anyways, Melina Monty asked me if you would attend their Magical Environmental Conservation Gala and say a few words about why magical forests, gardens, and natural habitats must be protected for creatures. Her daughter was in Ravenclaw, and she told her about your advocacy. The gala funding will benefit the Common Welsh Green sanctuary they are trying to start."

Hermione groaned, "Seriously, Kings? You knew I wouldn't be able to say no," Hermione glared at him.

"So, do you want a plus one?" Kingsley asked.

*~*~* July 11, 2002 *~*~*

"…and he just knew I couldn't tell him no," Hermione ranted to Daphne and Theo, "That bastard."

Theo grinned, "Want me to find you a wizard to take with you?"

"No, I have that covered, Theodore," Hermione stated as she looked at the invitation, "What the hell does cocktail attire mean?"

Theo looked at Daphne, "Do you think she is ready? I'm not sure she is."

Daphne rolled her eyes, "I think they are adult enough to handle themselves, Theo."

"Who?" Hermione asked.

Daphne took her sunglasses off as they entered the Phoenix Boutique. Hermione looked around at the clothing displayed. It was an interesting take on modern wizarding clothing that looked to be inspired by muggle clothing.

"How can I? Oh, Salizar, no!" Hermione looked over as none other than Pansy Parkinson herself saw Hermione, then turned around back to the backroom.

"Oh, come on, Pansy," Daphne said, following her to the back.

Hermione pulled out her wand as Daphne pushed Pansy back into the room. Walking up to her, she held up her wand, "You tried to turn Harry over to Voldemort."

"Seriously? Merlin Granger, that was four years ago. I was scared to death," Pansy told her.

"Let's forget that the past happened? Okay?" Daphne stated, "Anyways, Hermione, I'd like you to meet Pansy Parkinson, the seamstress extraordinaire. Pansy, Hermione Granger, defender of whatever she can defend. Hermione has been invited to a gala that needs cocktail attire."

Pansy glared at Hermione, pursed her lips, then sighed, "Fine. Granger, I hope you have nice knickers on. Take her in the back room and have her strip. I'll see what I can do."

Daphne was flipping through a magazine when Hermione sat down beside her in a silk robe, "Pansy doesn't race perfection. At least, that is always what she told me when I was trying to pick random things from the wardrobe. So, who are you taking to the gala?"

Hermione looked over at her, "Ron's brother Charlie. He works at the Romanian Dragon Reserve, so I figured he would be great to bring to this."

"Can't stay away from those Weasleys, can you?" Daphne asked with a grin.

"This one is safe. He is more interested in dragons than people," Hermione said as Pansy came out with a dress bag.

"Now, Granger, you will try this on. Love it, and make sure everyone knows that my new boutique is where it came from," Pansy said as she handed Hermione the dress bag, "Now go, shoo, try it on so I know more about your body fit."

Hermione walked into the small fitting room and hung the bag up. Unzipping it, she saw a beautiful pale gray dress with flowers sewn in with beaded centers. The dress felt as if it weighed nothing as she put it on. Looking at her reflection, she felt beautiful despite the sheer fabric on the chest that displayed her bra.

The door opened as she gasped, covering her chest.

"Oh please, Granger…hmmm," Pansy said as she circled her, and the dress became tighter in spots, "You need a better bra, but I can work with this. A pair of silver heels and a little lower in front here."

Hermione looked back at the mirror to see the waist was brought in, and the neckline was brought down just a little to show her collarbones, but not low enough to show cleavage.

"Who would have thought under all those robes and books, Granger, you are hot," Pansy remarked.

*~*~* July 20, 2002 *~*~*

Hermione looked at herself in the mirror after straightening her hair. Pulling on the dress to ensure it covered her nude-colored bra, she gave up, seeing as it looked like it was just part of the dress no matter what she did. Hearing the floo chime downstairs, she grabbed her clutch and turned the lights off in her room. Walking down the stairs, she heard Ron and Harry chatting with Charlie.

Her heels clicked on the stairs as she slowly descended them.

"Hermione Granger, damn," Charlie stated as he saw her, "I'm going to have to be beating wizards off you all night. What do you two think?"

Charlie slapped the back of their heads as they gaped at her.

"You look amazing, Hermione," Ron said, rubbing his head.

Hermione walked over to Harry and barely had to look up at him wearing her heels, "What do you think?"

"I think… you look amazing, but you always do. No dress would change that," Harry stated.

Hermione blushed, "Thank you."

"I can see your bra," Ron stated, "Did you mean for that to happen?"

Hermione glared at him, "No, Ron, I couldn't tell. It's part of the dress, actually."

Charlie looked at his watch, "Look at that, it's time to go and time for Ronnie to grow the fuck up."

"Rude," Ron stated as Charlie held his arm out for her to take.

"Don't wait up. We are going to have a blast," Charlie informed them.

Hermione danced with her arms around Charlie's neck, "Thank you for coming to this with me, Charlie."

Charlie pushed a piece of hair behind her ear, "I'm glad to be of service. I know you and Ronnie will never work out, but I'm glad to have you as my sister."

Hermione laid her head on his chest and felt the rumble as he spoke, "I know you and Ron are never getting back together. Are there any other men that hold your fancy?"

Hermione looked at him, "What the heart wants and what reality wants are two different things. I'm trying to put myself out there. It's just hard."

Charlie kissed the top of her head, "You'll find him. Have faith."

Hermione smiled, "You deserve to find someone too."

Charlie shrugged, "I'm not ready for a relationship right now. Mum and Dad don't know, and Percy would probably disown me. Mum is still asking when I will settle down with a witch. That is part of why I went to Romania. There is less pressure there."

Hermione bit her lip, "I have some friends coming in next month. I'd love for you to meet them. Have I ever told you about Josh?"

20 July, 2002

Dear Harry,

I am doing my best to move on, but it is hard. Everywhere I see people in love, the closest I have ever felt to being in love is with you. I feel like I am drowning sometimes, stuck in quicksand, watching people pass by. I wonder if Bellatrix's dagger poisoned my blood and caused something wrong with me. I crave your company. I crave being myself with you, but I can't be myself even with you.

*~*~* July 27, 2002 *~*~*

Hermione heard Harry and Ron moving around in their bedrooms as she got ready for Harry and Neville's birthday party get-together at the Leaky. Glancing at herself in the mirror, she cursed Pansy for giving her this outfit and begging her to wear it in hopes that she be photographed. She wore a black tank top underneath, and the top was barely more than some strings woven together like gauze to cover her shoulders, arms, and chest. It became thicker at her waist, covering her hips and down to where her fingertips met.

Worrying at her lip as she ran her hand over her slicked-back hair, she took in her thick eyeliner and pondered whether she should put lipstick on when a scent hit her. Her eyes fluttered shut as she took in the spicy smell. Grabbing her shoes, she walked down the stairs, following her nose. It was strongest in Harry's empty room but continued down the stairs.

"Bloody hell, Hermione," Ron said as he saw her walk down the stairs.

Harry turned around and looked at her with his mouth wide open, "Hermione, you look… amazing."

Hermione smiled at him, "Thank you, Harry. You look handsome yourself," She said, taking in his dress shirt and dark trousers.

As she approached them, the scent got stronger. As she paused and sniffed the air, she asked, "What's that smell?"

Harry blushed, "Does it smell awful? Ginny got me this can of body spray. I think I used too much."

Hermione found her body moving closer on its own accord as she sniffed him and closed her eyes, "No, not awful. In fact, I need to move back a bit. You smell way too good."

Harry laughed, "Too good? I'll take that as a compliment."

Hermione chuckled as her heart raced. She glanced at Ron to see him with a grin on his face. Josh and Dane, sitting on the couch, were covering their smiles, making her frown.

"Right then, shall we get going?" Ron asked them, "The rest of the DA is probably already there."

Hermione threw her shoes to the floor and slipped her shoes on. Pulling her dress down, she looked at the boys, "Let's go."

"What is that dress made out of?" Ron asked, picking at the strings, "I can't see you buying this for yourself."

Harry led their group to the floo and went first, Josh and Dane following him. Hermione looked at Ron, "Actually, I was given this outfit by Pansy Parkinson." Reaching for their floo powder, Ron's hand stopped her, "What?"

"Did you say Pansy Parkinson?" Ron asked, concerned, "Why are you talking to Parkinson?"

"The dress I wore to the gala, Daphne and I went to get at Pansy's boutique on Mullioned Alley. She got a lot of press from me mentioning I bought my dress there, so she gave me this one because Daphne told her we were going out for Neville and Harry's birthday," Hermione explained.

"Daphne? Wait, Greengrass? And you went out with Theo Nott. Hermione, their families were Death Eaters," Ron said, confused.

Hermione glared at him, "They weren't. They were child soldiers, the same as us. Misguided by those they trusted. Same as we were. Look at what Dumbledore did to Harry. He gave us just enough information that we would trust him, then raised him to be sacrificed in the end. He manipulated us all that time."

Ron stared at her, "I never thought of it that way."

Hermione sat at the bar, sipping her wine as she watched everyone interact. Neville and Luna were in what looked to be a deep conversation with Rolf at the other end of the bar, and Seamus and Dean were having some kind of drinking contest with Josh and Dane. Harry and Ginny were making their rounds and were currently talking to Susan Bones.

"You look amazing, by the way," Terry Boot said as he leaned on the bar beside her.

Hermione looked at him, "Thanks. How are you and Katie doing?"

Terry returned to where Katie was talking with Angelina and George and smiled, "We are doing great. How are you, Hermione?"

Hermione sighed as he got his and Katie's drinks, "I'm alright."

"Glad to hear it," Terry said as he walked off.

Hermione sighed, "But I'm not really."

"You're not really what?" Harry's voice asked.

Hermione shook her head, "Never mind. "

"Thank you, by the way, Hermione, for everything," Harry said as he kissed her cheek, and she could smell the whisky on his breath.

"I didn't do anything. It was mostly Tom," Hermione stated.

"No, I mean for always being there for me," Harry told her as he looked at his feet, "I know it couldn't have been easy being my friend all these years."

"I wouldn't have it any other way," Hermione said as she hugged him, sniffing his intoxicating scent. Uniquely Harry and with the body spray on top, she felt turned on.

"So this body spray, is it really that bad?" Harry smiled, pulling on a short curl.

Hermione laughed, "It was… intense, but not in a bad way. Just… maybe use less next time."

Harry laughed, "I'll keep that in mind. What would I do without you?"

"You wouldn't be here," Hermione stated.

"And that is the truth," Harry said with a yawn as Ginny called him over to her.

"Go, I'm going to go find Neville or Josh," Hermione told him with a smile.

*~*~* September 1, 2002 *~*~*

"Hermione."

Slowly opening her eyes, Hermione stared into Harry's green ones. Rubbing her eyes, she glanced at the clock on her nightstand, "What's wrong? It's only 7am on a Sunday. You are never up this early."

"Get up and get dressed. Ron and I are taking you away for your birthday and one last celebration before you start at the ministry. My training starts next week too. Think of it as a celebration before we have to grow up," Harry told her.

Hermione yawned and groaned as she put the covers over her head.

"I'll get you coffee," Harry offered.

Hermione peeked out of the covers, "And breakfast?"

"And breakfast," Harry stated, "You think Ron would go without it?"

Throwing her covers from her body, she got up, stretching, "What do I need to pack?"

"Clothes enough for almost a week. If you forget something or need something later, there are stores, and we are wizards and a witch. We will handle it. So don't overthink it, and go get ready," Harry said as he left her bedroom, shutting the door behind him.

"You are hilarious if you think she isn't going to overthink this. Hermione, you have an hour," Ron announced on the other side of the door.

"Shit!"

After quickly getting ready, throwing her morning routine, hair care, and skin supplies into her bag, she started folding clothes into her suitcase when Ron showed up at the door.

"Where are we going?" Hermione asked, glancing back at him.

"It's a surprise," Ron told her, "We promise you'll love it."

Hermione quickly finished packing her bag. Once ready, she walked downstairs, where the boys were sitting in front of the television, playing the video game that Harry had recently invested in when Josh and Dane had visited. Rolling her eyes as she set her bag down, she sat on the recliner.

Harry glanced over at her and turned off the game, causing Ron to shout in protest, "Hermione is ready."

Ron stood up, "Ready?"

"Are you ever going to tell me where we are going?" Hermione asked.

Harry held out his hand and held a cassette tape in it, "It's a portkey that will take us where we need to go."

They each grabbed their bags and put a finger on the portkey. With a "portus" by Harry, they were whisked away. When they landed, Hermione gasped in delight as she took in her environment. They were in the heart of wizarding Paris, the Eiffel Tower majestically on the horizon.

"Welcome to Paris!" Harry announced, "We thought you could use a break for your birthday."

Hermione's eyes widened as she looked at the boys, "I've only ever driven through Paris. I've always wanted to visit."

Ron smiled as he put his arm over her shoulders, "We've got two whole days planned. After that, it's all up to you."

Harry put his arm around her waist, "First stop, the oldest operating bookstore in the world, Librairie Galignani."

Together, they strolled through the streets of wizarding Paris and walked through a walkway in a statue to exit to Muggle Paris. When they reached Librairie Galignani, Hermione squealed in excitement. Walking inside, Hermione quickly lost herself in discovering ancient texts, first editions, and new, unopened books. After her pile of books outgrew her arms, Harry appeared from somewhere within the store where she had lost track of both boys and took her pile. After three hours, she found both Harry and Ron seemly bored. Ron was asleep in a chair while Harry was reading a book about law enforcement. He was joining MI5 for a semester internship that Kingsley wanted him to do to get more well-rounded training before starting at the ministry upon graduation.

Hermione walked over to Ron and nudged him, causing him to jump awake, "I'm done. You two can stop the torture now."

Harry shut his book and added it to the pile next to him, then picked them up.

"Here, let me take my books," Hermione insisted.

"No," Harry said, turning away, "It is your birthday. We are buying."

After paying and leaving the bookstore, they shrunk the bags, and Harry placed them into his pocket, "I don't know about you both, but I want to visit the Eiffel Tower."

Ron frowned, "Can we stop and get a bite to eat first?"

Together, they stumbled through the streets of Paris, laughing and reminiscing as they walked from the bookstore to a little cafe near the Eiffel Tower. After ordering, they sat outside on a small patio in the rapidly cooling air. The weather felt like it was starting to change. There was a crispy feeling in the air. Hermione found herself pulling her cardigan closer to her as she sipped on her steaming hot chocolate. The boys discussed the upcoming Quidditch season and whether the Harpies would make it to this year's finals.

Closing her eyes, she pulled her feet up onto her chair. She closed her eyes, listening to the boys, the sounds of the bustling city, the smells of the café and the city, and the taste of the sweet chocolate on her tongue.

"You okay?"

Hermione opened her eyes and glanced at Harry and Ron, "Just savoring this moment. We need to do this more."

*~*~* February 23, 2008 *~*~*

Hermione bit her lip as she looked at Luna, "Those four days we spent in Paris together helped our friendship," She glanced at Harry, "We were living together, but Ron was busy with George. Harry and I were in school and had Teddy. Adulthood changes relationships. You grow up, and things change. We hadn't been together for a long time since we were on the run. At that time, Ron had broken my heart, and much had gone on between us. I had also discovered the compatibility between Harry and me. We'd grown up, we'd grown apart, but that trip, we grew back together, at least in my opinion."

Luna asked Harry, "Do you feel that way, Harry?"

Harry pulled Hermione's feet in his lap and rubbed them, "I honestly didn't feel the distance. I had a strong relationship with Hermione and still have a strong friendship with Ron. I should have seen more distance between them, but I didn't."

"Did Ron feel the change too?" Luna asked.

Hermione shrugged, "You'd have to ask him about that, but I am grateful we went on that trip because the real world set in after that week. Our little protective bubble we'd been in burst. In some twisted way, despite being forced to grow up early because of the war, we were still children. Ron is his childlike self and the life of the party. Being ever a student, then the student life ends, and I get the job I only dreamt about. Harry was still in school, but his MI5 training had started. Reality had found us at last, and if we hadn't had that vacation or hadn't lived together, I don't think our friendship would have lasted as long as it is."

*~*~* September 19, 2002 *~*~*

Stepping out of the floo on the evening of her birthday, Hermione kicked her shoes off and groaned as her flat feet on the cool floor felt soothing to her aching feet. She yawned as she sat down on the couch.

"Long day?"

Her eyes fluttered back open as she looked up to see Harry. She yawned again, "Paul Campos, the secretary, and I went with Mark to the dragon sanctuary they want to open in Wales. They are trying to get it up and running. The neighbors are fighting back on it. I understand where they are coming from that if they were to get loose, it could endanger their homes, but these lands are the natural environment for these dragons."

Harry sat beside her, "How about you go upstairs and take a bath. I ordered Chinese for dinner. Ron is running late because George blew something up again. Teddy is already in bed."

Hermione groaned as she sat up, her head hanging low, "I'm so fucking exhausted."

Harry rubbed her back, "Not what you thought it would be?"

Hermione sighed, "Yes and no. I just thought I would be trying to make change within the ministry and the laws more than in the real world. My job is more fieldwork than I thought it would be."

"Well, the day is over. Now, go upstairs, relax, and take a bath. I'll let you know when the food is here," Harry told her.

Hermione went upstairs and into their bathroom, where she found a steaming bubble bath waiting for her. The room was covered in the soft glow of candlelight, and the bubble bath mixture that reminded her of Hogwarts filled the air. Hermione bit her lip, wishing she had a man like Harry to do this for her with romantic intentions.

*~*~* February 23, 2008 *~*~*

"It was me being romantic," Harry said, rolling his eyes.

Hermione elbowed him, "I didn't know that at the time. You were with Ginny. Why would you have done these things for me if you were with her? Hmm?"

Harry blushed, "Because I was an idiot and thought you didn't like me like that."

"Anyways..." Hermione looked back at Luna.

*~*~* September 19, 2002 *~*~*

Slipping out of her work clothes, she slipped into the warm, soothing water. Immediately, she felt the tension in her body melting away. After soaking for what felt like not long at all, someone knocked on the door, and it opened just a crack, "Hermione, did you fall asleep?"

Hermione sighed happily, "No, is dinner here?"

"Yep, Ron is home too," Harry informed her from the other side of the door.

"Let me rinse off, and I'll be down," Hermione stated, and he closed the door.

After rinsing her body, she wrapped herself in a warm plush towel and walked to her bedroom. She changed into a comfortable pair of pajamas. She walked downstairs, hearing the faint murmuring of Harry and Ron's voices carrying up to the first floor.

Walking into the living room, she saw Harry and Ron talking. The coffee table was set with takeout containers, and her favorite bottle of elf wine was uncorked. The boys stopped talking and looked up as she entered.

"Feeling better?" Harry asked as he grabbed the bottle of wine as Ron got up.

"Much better," Hermione replied as Ron wrapped his arms around her and enveloped her into a big hug, picking her feet off the floor.

"Happy Birthday, Herm," Ron told her.

Hermione hit his shoulder as he put her down, "Don't call me that."

Harry handed her a wine glass as she sat on the couch, and Ron came to sit down on her other side. After eating and talking about their days, Harry put You Got Mail on. Hermione set her plate down and settled back on the couch, tucking her feet under her.

"Oh, guess what?" Ron said just a few minutes into the movie.

"What?" Hermione asked, looking at him.

"Lavender got married," Ron said in disbelief.

Harry coughed as he choked on his food, "What?"

"Yeah, she and Anthony eloped to Italy or something from what George said," Ron told them as he reached over to grab the last egg roll, "Either of you going to eat this?"

"Nope, mate, I'm done," Harry said as he put his plate down, and Crookshanks put his front paw on the table to sniff it, "No, Crooks. I just fed you."

Hermione bit her lip, "How do you feel about that?"

Ron looked at her, "You think I care?" He asked as food spit out of his mouth, "Lavender and I weren't good for each other. I just liked being with her because she made me feel important."

Hermione looked at him in disbelief and glanced at Harry in surprise.

"Mate, that is great that you realized that," Harry stated.

Ron shrugged as he finished what was on his plate and then sat back. "After Lav, I realized I have been looking for someone to care for me like Mum. I don't need to be looking for another mother. I need to be looking for a life partner."

Hermione stared at Ron, "Who are you?"

Ron looked at her, "Part of it was you, if I'm honest. I thought we'd end up together because Mum said that you marrying me and Harry with Ginny would be a perfect big family. When we broke up, what you said didn't hit me then. When Lav and I ended it, I thought about what you said, and you were right."

"Thank you," Hermione told him, feeling relief after all these years, "I know you didn't want to hear it then, but hearing you say that I was right means something to me."

Ron laughed, "You just like knowing you were right."

Hermione snuggled back on the couch as Ron sat back, feeling safe and protected between her two best friends. The warmth of their bodies and the years of friendship between them made her feel at ease.

As the movie continued, Hermione fought with her eyelids. She tried her best to stay awake, but it was becoming too much between the bath relaxing her, the wine, her friends and the food. Her head found Harry's shoulder as Ron rubbed her feet.

She felt someone putting a blanket over her, and Ron whispered, "Looks like she had a good birthday."

Harry nodded against her head, "She deserves it. She works harder than anyone I know. Now that she is starting her doctorate program and working full-time at the ministry, I'm afraid she will do too much."

Eventually, Hermione's eyes opened and met Ron's as he put her in his arms, "Go back to sleep, I'm just taking you back up to your bed. I hope you had a great birthday."

"Because of you both," Hermione mumbled into his neck.

*~*~* October 26, 2002 *~*~*

Hermione walked past the small crowd, and the neon signs illuminated their bodies at Crave as she approached the bouncer.

"Evening, Miss Granger," He said as he opened the door for her, "The rest of your party is in the VIP section."

"Thank you," Hermione stated as she walked inside. The pulsating music met her as she passed through the wards. Witches and wizards in various robes and costumes filled the dance floor. Hermione felt their glances as she passed them and headed to the VIP section.

Pulling down her dress, she was dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, with ruby red slippers and a blue gingham dress. Harry's costume was like a beacon showing her the way as she made it closer to the back of the club, the strobes reflecting off the shining silver of his Tin Man costume. With a nod to the security wizard, she walked up the stairs to meet Harry, Ginny, Ron, Neville, Luna, and Rolf in their group theme costumes.

Harry wore a silver metallic suit that reflected the lights and everyone around him. A heart-shaped clock pinned to his lapel. Sitting next to him was Ginny, in Glinda's ball gown and crown, holding hands with Luna as they laughed about something. Luna took her role of Toto seriously. She had done body transfiguration to give herself furry ears, and Hermione hoped it was a fake tail, but with the way it was moving as Rolf rubbed her leg, Hermione believed it to be real. Rolf was looking every bit the part of the Wizard of Oz, with an emerald green suit and hat. He was talking to Ron, who was in a patchwork Scarecrow outfit, and Neville, who looked like he had borrowed Luna's old Gryffindor Lion hat. Modesty, Neville's girlfriend, was looking every bit the Wicked Witch with her black hair and green-painted face.

"You made it!" Luna shouted as she saw Hermione, "Our Dorothy is here!"

Hermione sat on the end next to Harry, "Everyone looks amazing."

Harry whispered in her ear, "I told them to wait on you before we go dance."

"Thanks," Hermione stated with a smile.

A waiter came over and brought her a cocktail called a poisoned apple shortly after. It was tart and sweet at the same time, but heavy on her tongue.

"Let's dance!" Luna yelled as they all got up, and she leaned over the railing, "I'm getting married next week!"

Hermione wasn't sure if anyone below heard her over the music, but Luna's hands… now paws, went up in the air as she and Rolf marched off to the dance floor. Neville and Modesty followed, as did Ginny and Harry, the lights reflecting in his suit, putting on a dazzling display. Ron held out his arm, "What do you say, Dorothy? Want to dance like there is no place like home?"

Hermione laughed as she laced her arm in his and kissed his cheek, "Thank you, Ron."

"For what?" Ron asked, confused.

"For just being you," Hermione told him as they walked down the stairs together.

The group danced and laughed. Hermione's ruby slippers flashed in the lights as much as Harry's suit. Ron lost his hat at one point, only for it to be caught in Luna's teeth like the dog she was pretending to be. After Ginny ordered a round of Butterbeer, they toasted the married-to-be couple.

Luna was beaming as she rested her head on Rolf's chest, "Thank you all for being here. This means the world to us."

Rolf nodded, resting his chin on her head, "I am so glad Luna has great friends like you all."

More drinks were shared, and they won a costume contest they didn't realize there would be. Laughing as they were awarded a golden pumpkin trophy that made Hermione think of Hagrid. As the rest of the night wore on, they danced together and celebrated Rolf and Luna and their friendships. Hermione found herself dancing with Ron, even Neville for a bit, Luna, and even a few wizards who tried to slip her their floo information.

Hermione walked up to the VIP section to cool down, where Harry sat by himself, sipping on a Firewhisky. Hermione sat down next to him, "I hope Luna has had a wonderful time."

Harry rubbed her shoulders, "It has been a good night. I hope we have many more of these nights in the future."

Between Harry's presence, the thumping of the bass, and her working eight hours before coming to the club, Hermione started to drift off.

"Does Dorothy need to click those slippers?"

Hermione opened her eyes, "I'm awake."

"It's nearly midnight. You coming home?" Ron said, holding his hand out to Hermione and looking at Harry. Hermione took it as she got up.

"I'm going to try to round up, Ginny. She should really head home. They have a game in the morning, and she should get some sleep," Harry said. "You two head home before me."

Ron put his arm around her shoulders, and they said goodbye to their friends as they walked out of the club and into the chilled air that made Hermione shiver. Walking towards the apparition zone, Ron smiled at Hermione, "I saw you got quite a few notes from blokes."

Hermione shrugged, moving closer to him, "I lost all of them somewhere on the club floor."

As they waited for the zone to open for them, Ron turned to Hermione, "You can't wait for him, Hermione."

Hermione sighed as she kicked the ground, "I know. I just don't have time to date, Ron. My life is too busy between work, Teddy, and studying for my doctorate now. I'm not ready for a serious relationship. Maybe when things calm down, I'll go on some dates."

Ron pulled her into the apparition zone and put his arms around her. Closing her eyes, she opened them when they were in their backyard. "I just hate seeing you suffer like this," Ron stated.

Hermione looked up at his deep blue eyes, which used to stir her emotions and now just comfort her. "I'm not suffering, Ron. It sucks, but it's not like it's killing me. Now, let's go inside. I'm ready to crash."

~*~* October 31, 2002 *~*~*

"Have you seen her dress?"

Hermione looked up from the pamphlet passed out for Luna and Rolf's wedding to look at Harry, "Luna's? No, she didn't want to spoil it for anyone. She made it herself."

Harry sat back as he looked around for Ginny, "I can just imagine what it looks like then," Harry looked at his watch, "Ginny is cutting it close."

"I can't believe they wouldn't let her out of practice," Hermione stated, "If she even asked."

Harry frowned, "She said she did."

Hermione looked away so Harry didn't see her eye roll, but Ron did as he stated at her, "What?"

"Nothing," Ron said as Hermione looked around the meadow at the whimsical decorations of various animals that Luna had made to decorate her family's backyard.

"Finally," Harry stated as Hermione saw Ginny rushing down the aisle to sit in their row, behind where Luna's father would sit with the people who had to be part of her family.

As the remaining guests took their seats, Hermione bit her lip, and Ron chuckled as he squeezed her hand. Newt Scamander himself walked down the aisle, holding his wife's hand to have a seat on the other side.

"For being over 100 years old, he has aged well," Hermione mumbled to Ron.

Ron snorted, causing Ginny and Harry to look at them, "Just laughing at Hermione's crush on the famous author."

Hermione felt herself blush as she hit Ron. As the music started playing, it would not have been wedding music to most people. Rolf stood up from the front row as an audible gasp came from the guests behind Hermione. Everyone stood up, and Hermione saw Luna's dress for the first time.

"Merlin's bollocks!" Ron whispered as Hermione elbowed him again. She took in the kaleidoscope of colors Luna was wearing as she held onto her father's arm. Her dress was made of every color of the rainbow, with sparkles and spangles of every color that caught the sunlight shimmering with every step she took. Her crown, which looked made of delicate horns of possibly unicorns, sat on her head; not even the veil could cover her giant smile.

Hermione glanced at Rolf. His expression showed how shocked he was. After the initial shock wore off, Hermione saw the smile creep up on his face. She saw that despite their age difference, he was clearly captivated by Luna.

"Holy shit," Harry said as Luna walked past them, and Hermione buried her face in his back, trying not to laugh or show her expression to Luna.

"Looks amazing despite it all," Hermione whispered, only for him to hear, "It's perfectly Luna."

As Luna reached the altar, she smiled at Rolf as Xenophilius gave her over. Then, he sat down in front of them, next to the chair, with a candle and a picture of Pandora Lovegood.

The Ministry officiant stared at Luna in disbelief until Rolf cleared his throat, causing the older man to jump, "Yes, welcome friends, family, and hopefully loved ones from the beyond, all who have come in peace to witness the union of Rolf Scamander and Luna Lovegood. We are here to celebrate with them and share in their triumph as they proclaim their love for one another and the bond that will form between their souls."

Hermione swallowed hard as she watched Luna gazing not at the officiant but at Rolf.

"Luna and Rolf have chosen to commit to one another today for the rest of their lives, but they understand that the love they commit to is dynamic and fluid, and what we celebrate today is the eternal connection between their souls, no matter what physical form their love will take."

The official looked at Luna and Rolf from his notes, "Let there be no mistake, the tradition of soul bonding recognizes and accepts love as dynamic in nature. It is not to be entered into lightheartedly. It is a sacred vow."

Harry looked at Hermione, "You said once that sometimes soul bindings don't work. What happens if that happens?"

"Their magic will resist it, and the binding will break. It can be forced, but it is magic's way of stating they shouldn't. Naturally, something is not working," Hermione whispered.

The officiant asked them, "Luna and Rolf, is it your intent to enter into this commitment to one another?"

"It is," They stated.

"Then let us begin," The officiant said as Luna and Rolf joined hands after cutting their hands.

Hermione bit her lip as she listened to Luna and Rolf make their vows of commitment, protection, joy, growth, hope and dreams, honor and respect. Each time, the golden ropes around their hands grew brighter.

"Then let the binding be so."

The golden ropes were so bright that Hermione nearly had to look away as they sank into their skin.

"Luna and Rolf, having proclaimed the bond of your souls together in the sight of these witnesses, based on the strength of that bond and the power vested in me by the Ministry of Magic, I now pronounce you bonded. Please seal your bond with a kiss."

Rolf pulled back Luna's veil and kissed her. The officiant raised his wand, and the golden light spread from Luna and Rolf to surround the guests. The guests cheered, and Hermione felt a few happy tears fall down her face. A pulse from close to her made her look over to see Harry looking at her.

Hermione swallowed the lump in her throat, "They are happy tears."

A tent has been erected for the party after the ceremony, similar to the Weasley style. Hermione was sitting with Ron, Ginny, and Harry, laughing about a famous story about Luna, when Luna snuck up behind them.

"Hermione, I'd like you to meet someone," Luna stated, and Hermione found herself looking at Newt Scamander himself behind her.

Hermione nearly stumbled over her feet as she stood.

"I'd like you to meet Rolf's Grandfather, Newt. Newt, this is Hermione Granger," Luna introduced, her eyes twinkling.

Hermione tried not to squeal in excitement as she took a breath, "It's an honor to meet you, Mr. Scamander. I've read your work on magical creatures extensively."

Newt smiled warmly, "Please call me Newt. Luna speaks very highly of you, Hermione. I've heard about your work at the ministry as well."

Ron stood up and motioned for Newt to sit, "Mr. Scamander, please have a seat. I'm going to go get a drink."

Newt pulled Hermione's chair out, and they sat down, having a friendly conversation about his past and travels. Then, Newt asked Hermione to discuss her ideas for improving house-elf rights.

"I believe there is so much we can do to ensure their rights and freedoms. It's a cause close to my heart after a house-elf named Dobby saved mine and Harry's lives more than once," Hermione informed him.

Newt nodded, "Luna stated you had an idea for a school for young wizarding children and creatures of intelligence?"

Hermione felt her face light up, "Yes!" She said, trying to calm her eagerness, "I'm working on a proposal for a school for wizarding children and young Muggleborns to introduce them into the wizarding world earlier than eleven. They wouldn't receive wands but could learn more about magic and the Muggle world together, not separately. I would love to include creatures with near-human intelligence as well. I believe it will help creatures of all kinds, as well as help the understanding and cooperation from wizards."

Newt smiled, "That is a remarkable vision, Hermione. I'd be very interested in supporting your efforts."

Hermione pinched herself under the table, "I have the backing of Minerva McGonagall, the headmistress of Hogwarts, as well. I just want to finish my proposal before going to Kingsley Shacklebolt, but I assume I also have his support."

"Please keep me up to date on the progress. You are free to owl me at any time," Newt stated, "The biggest problem would be finding a location."

Hermione grinned, "I have one. Harry now owns Potter Manor, but he doesn't want it. I just have to get funding to turn it into a school."

Newt looked at her, surprised, "The famed Potter Manor still exists? That would be a perfect location."

As the night drew to a close, Hermione sat between Harry and Ron after Ginny had left to travel with the team to their next match, watching Luna and Rolf dancing together on the dance floor. The soft light of the lanterns created an ethereal glow as the fairies danced across the ceiling, making their glittering dust settle everywhere on Luna, Rolf, and all the guests on the dance floor.

Hermione leaned on Harry's shoulder as Ron held her hand in his, "It's been a wonderful day."

Harry nodded as he wrapped his arm around her, "It has. I'm happy for Luna. After all that she has gone through, she deserves this."

Ron raised his glass, "Which of us will be next, you think?"

Hermione swallowed hard as she felt Harry tense, "I don't know. Neville couldn't leave Hogwarts tonight to be here, but I think he and Modesty are great together. You never know. It could be them."

Harry relaxed as he chuckled, vibrating her body, "I think it will be Andromeda and Kingsley."

Hermione's eyes met Harry's, "They are a great match."

Harry nodded, laying his head back on hers, "They are."

*~*~* February 23, 2008 *~*~*

"Did you know the two of you glowed when our bonding happened?" Luna asked.

Harry looked at her in disbelief, "No, we didn't. We'd have known."

"You didn't see it because you weren't looking or knew what to look for. All bonded couples glowed after the bonding magic spread," Luna told him with a smile as she shut her notebook and looked at the clock on Hermione's office wall, "I think that is a good place to stop for today. I'll let you two enjoy the rest of your night, and I will head home to see my husband." She stood up, and Hermione slowly sat up, "Do you want to continue tomorrow?"

"Sure," Hermione said as she stood up, "I want to get as much as possible for this book. I hope we can beat Rita's publication."

Luna laughed, "Oh, Hermione, I have my father's personal printers. Don't you worry. When you are ready for the story to be out, we will release it."

So I did about zero things on my to-do list for this vacation other than get my car repaired. I decided that I've been burning the candles at both ends for too long so I took three days to do absolutely nothing. But because I was stuck at home, it gave me plenty of time to write! I finished two chapters and started a short extension to this one with a further partner of Hermione. As previously stated, any serious partners for Hermione will have their own shorts separate from this. Great news, I'm up to 2005 and I am having too much fun writing the current chapter. Something happens it in that I should have done earlier, but for the growth of a character I put off until 2005. Just wait and see ;)

Preview of Chapter 26- this is me trying - 2003

Hermione sighed, "Maybe I'm a new person."

"No, you are depressed. Don't think I haven't seen you at the Leaky with Nott and Greengrass lately. Nearly every night, you are there drinking," George told her, "Ron and Harry say you are working late, but instead, you are at the Leaky Cauldron tossing back drinks? What the hell, Hermione, is going on?"

"None of your fucking business George. You know nothing about me," Hermione spit out, turning around to see an extender potion for men and jumping back in disgust.

"Look, Hermione. You are scaring me," George told her, "You helped me when I was having trouble losing Fred. I just want to pay it forward."
