A New Reality
Chapter 1

Lucas had kept a close eye on her. She had been sleeping for days now. He lingered in her hospital room.
To wired to rest. His mind replaying the drive to the hospital. How it was on him to make the final decision.
They had decided to hold off on children for the first year. Wanting to enjoy their life as newlyweds.
But once they decided to try and have a baby it brought them closer. Their connection their bond. Their love eventually had brought forward a pregnancy.
Those 9 months were filled with hopes dreams and pure happiness that all new soon to be first time parents had.
Yet Brooke's delivery happened all at once. The complications.
I've tried to think about what i would tell Brooke.
And i still didn't know what to say.
Her hospital bag was nearby.
I watched her slowly start to wake up.
I swallowed hard. Taking her hand in mine.
"Lucas. What happened. I don't remember alot of it."
"Where's the baby?" "Did we have a boy or girl?" Brooke asked.
Lucas sighed deeply.
"Things that no one could prepare for."
"Went wrong. It came down to you or the baby and i picked you." Lucas explained.
Brooke's eyes went wide. The color drained from her face.
"No! There has to have been a mistake!"
"They got this wrong!" Brooke exclaimed.
"It had to be done Brooke. They couldn't save the both of you." Lucas insisted.
"Why didn't you pick the baby!"
"We waited so long for this!"
"It can't just be over! I still feel pregnant."
"Was it a boy or a girl?" Brooke asked.
"I'll tell you later i promise. I'm so sorry Brooke." Lucas proclaimed.
Lucas hugged her tightly as he attempted to console her.
Her cries filled the otherwise quiet hospital room.
