A small but fun side project of mine.

~ The White Devil ~

"If Char sees me like this, I'll kill myself first." A Japanese child muttered angrily.

He was a… strange boy for a Japanese child.

Red curly hair, a slightly tanned skin and a round and chubby face full of baby fat and freckles. Anyone can see that the boy had foreign blood mixed in his features. An exotic specimen as Japanese typically don't associate much with foreigners when it comes to romance.

This is Amuro Ray, 5 years old.

Well in this new life.

This boy is none other than the White Devil, the scourge of Zeon and the Hero of the One Year War. Rival of the Red Comet, Char Aznable and Ace pilots of the Federation.

Yet those titles mean nothing in his new life.

"Amuro, turn that frown into a smile, please." Amuro deadpanned at the woman begging for his smile.

Kamaria Ray, an American turned Japanese citizen after marrying his father, Tem Ray. Amuro's features came from her with her long red locks and freckled face.

"Hahaha, you know that boy won't smile even if it kills him." Tem Ray chuckled as his wife pouted at the sour look Amuro was giving them.

He would too if he was forced into a very cute kindergarten graduation uniform.

Tem can't help but shake his head as Kamaria tried and failed to coax the boy into smiling for the camera. The boy is just too… mature for his age.

From the day of his birth, Amuro was a child genius from the start. Walking up in less than a year and speaking in full albeit butchered sentences in 3 years. It's rather scary but he can't help but feel proud.

The day his child asked for assistance in a project was the best day of his life. His boy is interested in robotics! (Much to Kamaria's dismay).

Kindergarten was a breeze to the boy and teachers had even suggested to advance the boy's education but tboth parents rejected it. Amuro's development as a child is more important than academic achievements.

Something that Amuro is thankful for. It wasn't his fault he was an overachiever. He was a soldier before and overachieving a mission is always a plus, something that became a habit of his.

A very bad habit.

To be honest, Amuro loved this new life. No wars, no Char, no Lalah and no MobileSuits (although he missed them). Only peace.

He had lived a good but unfulfilling life back then. Fighting in a war he wasn't supposed to take part in and later joining the military out of duty. As a newtype and ace pilot at the time.

His career and personal life was nothing but conflict. Both in and out of the war. No family, no love life and no more friends (except military friends).

Chen, oh poor Chen. He hoped she found someone better than him. Bright, he better take care of his son or he'll end up like him, he can see it already.

At the end of his life, he only had his mortal enemy and rival, Char and Lalah Sune.

Sometimes, he wonders if they got reborn in this peaceful era. A wistful thought.

But sometimes, he wishes it was the truth…

.

.

.

Being in the 20th century, Amuro had already planned out his peaceful retirement at the age of 9.

Go through the embarrassing years of elementary and highschool (kindergarten will always be a special place of hell for him), get into a good robotics college, find a good company to offer his ideas (he had a ton of those) and retire in a silence after innovating and advancing the current era's technological level.

That was the planned until the IS fucks it up.

When Amuro first heard of the news, his personality immediately switched to the White Devil. The calculated yet unpredictable monster of the OYW and Hero of the Federation. A mindset he had hidden over the years of his peaceful life with his new parents.

He sees foul play here.

A hacker suddenly gaining access to various military bases and ship missile payload before targeting Japan was a major clue.

For all it's worth, Japan has no enemies. Yet.

The country is still an isolationist country despite being open to foreigners. Call it stigma or xenophobic but it's part of Japanese history.

For it to be targeted for no reason is a major head scratcher. Until the IS appeared.

Shirokishi or White Knight. He thought IS was a variation of a MobileSuit at first sight until it's scale was shown. A 1:1 scale humanoid suit.

More of a mobile weapons platform but still a manned suit.

It was the talk of the world. The White Knights' power was feared by many countries. The ability to fend off thousands of missiles with such ease caused an arms race and wild hunt for the White Knight.

Capture or destroy.

Amuro can't help but scoff at the stupidity.

Watching the countries try and fail to capture or destroy the Rogue IS was akin to a cat chasing a red dot.

They forgot the one holding the laser.

Where's the hacker?

More importantly, what's their connection to the White Knight?

That's when Tabane Shinonono revealed herself to the world and her IS.

Amuro already can't be trusted even as the world accepted the IS into their midst, leading to various new laws and treaties in the whole wide world. She reminds him of various unsavory characters back in his old world. The newtype doctors of the Flanagan institute came to mind mostly. They might have advanced Newtype research and development but he read their files in his stay in Cheyenne. The atrocities they did in the name of research before their destruction in the hands of Nimbus was a sign of karma.

Still, the world had changed with the introduction of IS.

The world changed overnight.

The world is plunged into an arms race, vying to get hold of the best IS in the field despite the ban of IS in armed conflict. Amuro can already tell that many countries would build up IS forces over the years and as time goes by, conflict would be inevitable.

War will happen.

The treaty was nothing more but a stop gap of an incoming flood. Meanwhile, the cause is happily prancing around somewhere hidden. Tabane was MIA or hiding away.

At the same time, society changed too.

Females can only pilot IS, a design flaw in Amuro's eyes. As such, females became the top hierarchy in society. At first, Amuro didn't notice it until he stepped into junior highschool. The carefree atmosphere of school changed into an elitist hierarchy with men at the bottom and the women at the top. Of course, Amuro dismissed it all. Why would he care? He got his own projects to do like remaking the design of the Nu Gundam.

Well, our protagonist forgot his mixed heritage and like a certain protagonist, he doesn't know his charms.

Amuro isn't a Casanova per say and isn't much of a pretty boy but his mixed heritage made him an exotic specimen in this society. A black sheep among the flock. A rare dish on the menu. The wildcard in a pack of decks.

You get the gist.

Some girls did put in the moves on our ex-soldier, in hopes of making him a loyal boy toy or a lucky boyfriend. Too bad our White Devil had only one love in life.

Gundams.

Attraction soon turned to ridicule after many failed advances. Granted, Amuro had no time for romantic avenues when he had to work on survival. His future is at stake here.

So for the rest of his junior highschool life, Amuro was the foreign (his actually japanese) nerdy loner in the corner of the room.

It was a lonely experience. Yes, it was. Amuro was used to it as a soldier. Also, he prefers his family's presence to others. Seeing as his previous family was a broken one, he promised to keep this one safe and sound.

Until the Tokyo incident that is.

Age 15, Amuro Ray went with his father to an IS exhibit in Tokyo. Of course he would join his father, both father and son are fascinated in robotics and shared interest in engineering. The Exhibit is just their yearly bonding time as father and son.

So off they went together minus Karmia, being a surgeon, she has to stay for work.

The Exhibit was an eye opener for Amuro especially in the IS specs.

Like any other MS pilot, he went through the specs of the suit and found it lacking.

So very much.

The IS shielding was a work of art and he would tip his hat to Tabane for making it work. A shield that nullifies both physical and beam weaponry is always a good addition to any suit. Unfortunately, it had the cost of draining the IS main power which is a major flaw.

Amuro had already simulated so many scenarios to break the shield in mere seconds.

Without a shield, the pilot is already as dead as pilot suits and the IS itself has no means of defense except for its shield.

To rely on one defense is a good way to die.

Still, the IS suit was a piece of technology that surpasses a MobileSuit in versatility, firepower (in terms of scaling) and technology.

His only gripe is the lack of defense except for the shield.

Then something unthinkable happened.

Amuro felt a sharp pain in his head. It was something he hadn't felt ever since after his final battle with Char on Axis.

His Newtype powers and it's warning him of danger.

Without any question, he listened to the warning.

Imagine everyone's surprise in the exhibit as the entire IS exhibit began to reacting, violently.

Until one flew towards Amuro.

Pushing his surprised father out of the way, Amuro dived for cover as the wild IS flew by before slamming into the walls of the exhibit room. It's only his daily routine of training that saved Amuro from a broken bone in that moment as multiple IS locked sights on him.

"Fuck." The White Devil cursed.

It was chaos as the room was engulfed in a mad dash for the ex-soldier. IS after IS tried to capture Amuro, to his confusion and fear as he ran and dodged the machines. Most importantly, his Newtype powers have reawakened in this new life and are now going haywire as it warns him from danger after danger.

Like a piece of a missing puzzle, Amuro listened and seamlessly dodged every IS in the room while looking for an escape or something to stop this madness. The IS are barely touching him, grazing his clothes is the best they can before smashing to each other or the wall.

It was a sight to see to watch a 15 year old expertly dodge about 6 IS in a room chock full of various exhibits.

Unfortunately, Amuro is still human going up against machines. One single misstep was all it took before he found himself enveloped in an IS frame.

"Son of a bitch."

Everyone in the room felt it too Amuro. They just witnessed a man don an IS suit. The first one.

Well he would be joined by the main protagonist later but it's a story for another time.

Before getting his ass taken away by the Japanese government, Amuro's only problem is that he had never finished the Nu Gundam redesign.

The priorities of this man are unreal.
