Chapter 620 Awards

"

They ate lunch at Burger Barn a fast casual burger place on the way back to Charming. Everyone had a burger except Sack who got a non-meat version of a burger and fries. While the guys were hurting from their injuries, they were in good spirits. They were alive and not in an ER so life was looking pretty good at that moment.

Scarlett sat next to Jax and enjoyed the camaraderie of the guys. She didn't fully understand the MC culture, but watching them together was helping her get why his club meant so much to Jax. They also treated her well. They never made a suggestive comment to her or let their hands wander. Scarlett knew she was only off limits because she was Jax's old lady. If she were a crow-eater, she'd be treated completely differently.

Normally, she didn't use her cell when she was with Jax, but there was a lot that needed arranged back at the clubhouse, so she was constantly texting with Chuckie. He was a strange little man, but he was efficient, helpful and always willing to help the guys. Miles was also helping since he'd gotten back with the flatbed truck.

Jax gathered everyone together on their return to Charming and before they entered the clubhouse.

"Since we aren't camping out in the woods, we are going to camp out in the clubhouse using blow up beds. More comfortable than camping."

Inside the clubhouse, Chuckie had all the tables moved back clearing room for the beds. Each bed had a blanket over the inflatable bed and another folded at the foot of the bed along with one pillow in a white pillow case.

"Good job, Chuckie and Miles," Jax said.

"I'm going to leave," Scarlett said. "I'll be back around 8. We had a late lunch so I planned dinner late. I've got the order from Sandwich A Lot. If any of you want something different than your usual order, tell Chuckie and he'll text me all the changes at once. I'll also pick up some potato, macaroni and Cole slaw. You've got plenty of drinks here."

"Get food for you, Miles, Phil and Chuckie too," Jax said. He pulled out a roll of cash and peeled off a handful of twenties and handed them to Scarlett.

Scarlett surprised everyone by taking Chuckie with her when she left. That definitely caught Jax's attention, but he figured that it had to do with getting the food ready.

All the guys dropped down onto a bed grateful they weren't going to have to sleep on the floor or on the ground at a camp site. Painkillers handled the pain, but they were still stiff. If you rode enough miles, going down was almost inevitable, but this had been on an epic scale at a speed faster than any of them had ever gone down before.

Miles and Phil were waiting to help Scarlett and Chuckie unload the van. She'd also gotten some grocery items for tomorrow's brunch. Scarlett normally would have made the brunch, but she wasn't still strong and didn't want to spend the evening prepping a home cooked brunch and the truth was as long as the food was good, the guys didn't care how the food got made.

The sandwiches each had the name of the person written on it, so it made distribution easy. The bar was set up with plates, utensils and the salads. Scarlett was given the honor of being the first through the buffet line followed by Jax.

Miles, Phil and Chuckie were the last ones through the line, but there was plenty of food left and they were delighted they had been included in the dinner invitation.

After Chuckie, Miles and Phil cleaned everything up and put the leftovers in the refrigerator, Scarlett stood up.

"I got bakery brownies with chocolate frosting and vanilla ice cream for dessert. For breakfast tomorrow, I ordered some quiches from the bakery including a spinach and onion one."

"Thanks Scarlett," Sack said.

"You're welcome. I also ordered some assorted pastries. Miles will pick them up in the morning. Chuckie will cook some hash browns and sausages and we also have orange juice, yogurt, fruit and honey both regular and hot."

When planning food for a group of big bikers, it was always better to order more food than necessary because they had huge appetites. If there was too much food, it could be saved, but if they ran out, that was all that everyone would remember. Also there was the Gemma factor. If they ran out of food, Gemma would use it to disparage her.

"Now, this is a momentous occasion, so it must be commemorated with awards," Scarlett said. Chuckie handed her a box.

"Awards," Happy said bouncing up and down on his blow up bed. He was pretty high from a couple of extra pain killers and had reverted to a child-like state.

Tig was muttered something about a princess. The hospital wanted to keep him overnight for observation, but his insurance plan wouldn't approve it, so the guys were keeping an eye on him. Sack was relieved he wasn't going to have to spend the night sleeping in a chair by Tig's bed.

Jax raised a skeptical eyebrow, but said nothing.

"We had a tie in this category. It's for the rider who participated in the Anarchy Run as we are calling it. These two guys fell off their bikes with the rest of you and did a very fine job of it. The awards go to Kozik and Juice," Scarlett said. She handed the award which consisted of a drawing of the reaper in SAMCRO blue with the words Anarchy Run Participant on it followed by each of their names.

Scarlett and Chuckie spent time putting the award together printing out the design of the award on large label paper. The label was then applied to a white piece of craft foam and then a cord was attached to the hole punched at the top so the award could be worn around the neck.

"Participation trophy," Happy said laughing and pointing at them.

"Losers," Opie said.

"Hey, this just means we weren't the worst," Kozik protested.

"Yeah, it means we suck the least," Juice added.

"The Best Non-patched Rider award goes to Sack."

"He was the only one," Juice shouted.

"It wasn't a very competitive category," Scarlett explained.

"I still want a recount," Chibs demanded.

"Sorry, all awards are final. The next award goes to a man who will become legendary for being the road captain of the Anarchy Run. Without him, it might have gone even worse because, hey, no one died. Chibs, the Best Road Captain award is for you."

There was a chorus of laughter as Chuckie handed Chibs his award.

"I'd like to say Scarlett has it right. Without me, this run could have been a disaster," Chibs said as he put the award around his neck. All the other winners were doing the same.

The clubhouse erupted into laughter.

"This next award goes to the man who bravely sacrificed not only his body but his arm to keep from harming his brothers. The Broken Arm award goes to Happy. We did the award so you can wear it on your cast, but we can change it to an award to wear around your neck."

Happy grinned with undisguised pleasure.

"Put it on my cast," he told Chuckie pointing to the exact place on his cast he wanted it. "I always wanted to have a cast when I was little. As hard as I tried, I never broke any bones. Everyone has to sign. Scarlett first."

There was a pause in the awards ceremony as Happy insisted everyone sign his cast immediately before the proceedings could continue. Jax handed Scarlett a pen so she had the place of honor as the first signer of Happy's cast.

"OK," Scarlett said after everyone resumed their seats on their blow up beds. "This next award is highly prestigious and there was only one person who qualified for it. This person kept his bike in an upright position which is the correct position for bike riders in case any of you forgot," Scarlett paused as the men groaned. "He effortlessly avoided going down and stayed upright. The Best Rider award goes to Piney."

"Damned right," Piney said as he put his award on. "No one better ever talk shit about me riding a trike. And when you all have recovered from your injuries, I'll be teaching a class in how to stay on your bikes."

"Good one Pops," Opie said.

"This brings us to the Best Road Rash award. Mercifully, I have only been told about it and not seen it in person, but I've heard it's spectacular. This goes to Bobby."

"You would have blinded her for life if she'd seen your rash," Kozik said.

"I heard one of the nurses puking her guts up after cleaning you up, Bobby," Chibs said.

"And what did she do when she cleaned you up?" Bobby demanded.

"Gave me her phone number. She has a thing for bikers," Chibs said.

"I got a phone number but I'm not sure who gave it to me," Tig said. "I think it's from a princess."

"OK, Tiggy. Anyone else get a phone number?" Jax asked.

"I got two phone numbers," Juice bragged.

"You only had male nurses and a male doctor," Opie pointed out.

The guys erupted into laughter at Juice's expense.

"OK, I lied," Juice confessed. "I didn't get any phone numbers but if I'd had female nurses, I'd have gotten plenty."

"This next award is for the Best Roll Down a Hill. Not everyone managed such a spectacular stunt. While everyone else was happy to splatter themselves on the pavement, this ingenious biker managed to launch himself over a guardrail and down a hill. This is for you, Tig."

"Thank you, princess," Tig said.

"His head is still a work in progress," Sack explained. "The doctor said he might experience some confusion for awhile." The guys exchanged looks.

"My helmet came off and I hit some rocks on the way down, your highness," Tig explained.

"I hope your head gets better fast," Scarlett said slightly alarmed by how off Tig was acting. "Now this next Anarchy Run award goes to the man who got the most stitches. Many of you tried to top his record, but he has almost twenty percent more stitches than the rest of you. The award for Most Stitches goes to Opie."

"Not fair," Jax called. "He's bigger than all of us."

"He took more stitches trying to save his brothers," Scarlett replied tartly.

"Well put Scarlett," Opie said. "I got more stitches so some of you could get less."

"Hey, I didn't get an award," Jax protested.

"Would I forget you? To my personal president and your vice president, this Anarchy Run award goes to the Best Looking While Injured."

Jax laughed. Scarlett knew Jax wouldn't mind being teased about his looks.

"That concludes the awards ceremony. I'd like to give special thanks to Chuckie who helped put the awards together. I hope this is the last awards ceremony of its kind and, in the future, you guys manage to stay on your bikes and not fall off."

The guys clapped and whistled to show Scarlett how much they enjoyed and appreciated the awards ceremony. It struck the perfect tone.

"Miles, Phil and Chuckie thanks for everything. You can head home," Jax said snapping into VP mode. "Scars, I'll walk you out."

"You guys be careful about mixing painkillers and alcohol," she warned as she left with Jax.

Now maybe she'd learn the real truth about what really happened on that stretch of highway that took out most of the MC.
