Note: Ok folks, here is Part II and the final part of the Dragoness Duology. This story is undergoing serious revision but the first few chapters are ready to go. I'll be uploading just the first one today and the rest will soon follow! Shoutout to those who liked and followed Part I! For any new readers, I strongly recommend reading Part I to get a better understanding of this story. For those who have read Part I, buckle up. This story will have more original content and it is much darker. Also, it's divided into two parts.

Part I: The War of the Ring
Chapter I
It was the year 2952 T. A. Eruanna Úlumiel, Princess of Eryn Galen, Lady of Imladris and Lothlórien and Mistress of Dragons was engaging in a game of chess with her paternal grandfather, King Thranduil of Mirkwood. She had stayed in Lothlórien for the past two years with her mother and aunt before they returned to Imladris and she flew with her dragons up North to visit her father and paternal grandfather.
Eruanna and Thranduil neither liked chess nor hated it. It was Eruanna's paternal great-grandfather who had enjoyed the game. Playing the strategy based board game was a way of honoring him.
Eruanna played chess with her maternal family as well. Her maternal grandfather, Elrond, played it with her and so did her uncles (beating her uncles was way too easy though). Her mother was never fond of the game and her father, well he never played it. Eruanna certainly didn't want to spend forever teaching him the game.
The Dragoness moved her knight and grinned in satisfaction. "Checkmate."
Thranduil checked the board. Sure enough, his King was captured. "Well played", he smirked. They sat in silence for a few seconds, Eruanna setting the chess board again and the crackle of the fireplace being heard. "I remember when your great-grandfather would drag me into this game", Thranduil said, a wistful smile on his face.
"I can certainly imagine a stern, proud Elvenking enjoying this game", came Eruanna's reply. Thranduil snorted.
Eruanna picked up the Queen, her favorite chess piece. "Ruling is just like a game of chess isn't it?", she murmured softly.
Thranduil's mouth curled up in a philosophical smile. "Indeed", he said.
"Save for the King. I've known a great many strong Kings. Here, the King is weak and always running for his life. How disappointing", Eruanna said.
"A ruler needs both fear and love. It's a delicate balance, tip one or the other, you are deemed either a weakling or a tyrant", Thranduil said. "As rulers we must maintain that balance if we are to navigate ruling a Kingdom". Eruanna nodded in agreement.
"Who is the most powerful person in this game?", Thranduil asked. "Your great-grandfather asked me this very question."
"The Queen", Eruanna responded.
Thranduil cocked his head. "No. Try again."
Eruanna raised her dark eyebrows, shaking out her black hair. "The person playing the game", she said after a few minutes.
Thranduil smiled. "Correct. You got it quicker than I did."
"We're all pawns in someone else's game", Eruanna said. "Now we are pawns in Sauron's game. We just have to outsmart him. We have to win. Otherwise all those sacrifices will be for nothing."
The Battle of the Five Armies never left Eruanna's mind as it happened several decades ago. Thorin, Fili and Kili's deaths came as the price along with several elves, dwarves and men. She'd even executed one of her own people. Tauriel's face still haunted her. Thankfully, they were awarded with victory.
Just then, Eruanna's hand went to her forehead. "Úlumiel?", Thranduil leaned forward, concerned.
Eruanna's deep blue eyes slammed shut. She had a vision of complete darkness. Out of the mist and shadows, a large armor clad giant moved towards her. He then took a fairer form, coming to her as a fair elf with silver hair and piercing red eyes. "Eruanna", he said in his haunting voice. "Dragoness. You will not rule the skies for long should you stand against me."
Eruanna heard the chants in the background. Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul (One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them).
"Join me and I will let you rule. You will control the skies. I shall have dominion over the land", the elf said.
Just then, he vanished in a cloud of smoke and Eruanna's headache stopped. She opened her eyes to see her grandfather looking at her with deep concern. "Valar", she murmured. "I had a vision".
"What was it?", Thranduil asked.
"Sauron", she said. "He was trying to convince me to join him."
Thranduil's blood ran cold. Of course the Dark Lord was planning this. There was no Elven Ring of Power to protect them, one belonging to Mithrandir, one that Galadriel wore and the other that belonged to Elrond. The rings allowed Galadriel and Elrond to keep the darkness away from them. It was why Eruanna and her mother, Hiriel, were sent to Imladris.
If the Dark Lord corrupted Eruanna, the elves stood no chance. The elemental dragons had reached the height of their power and there was no way anyone could stand up to them. "It's nothing", Eruanna brushed it off. "Just a vision."
"Nay G siel", Thranduil looked afraid. "Do not take this lightly. If Sauron is indeed trying to corrupt you, you must take your leave and go to Imladris. There, his influence cannot touch you."
"I was hoping to leave a dragon here to protect you and our people", Eruanna said, but Thranduil shook his head. "If Sauron can enter your mind like he has just done now, he can do the same thing with your dragons. Take them all and leave. We can hold our own."
"Are you sure? Still I...", Eruanna trailed off. Frowning, she got up as did her grandfather. "What is it?", Thranduil asked.
"I need to check on my dragons", Eruanna said. Even miles away, Eruanna knew when her dragons were distressed or something was wrong with them. Thranduil knew better than to second guess her feelings. "I'm going with you", he said, his voice leaving no room for arguments.
Glorfindel, who'd been with Eruanna during her trip to Mirkwood, followed them silently, exchanging brief smiles with Eruanna. They left the halls and went outside. On a peak stood Eruanna's five elemental dragons: Ceveniel, Helegiel, Naurion, Faroniel and Sûlion. Ceveniel acknowledged her Mistress with a soft noise. Eruanna placed her hand on Ceveniel's snout.
"What's wrong with them?", Glorfindel asked, concerned.
"They don't like it here", Eruanna said, noticing a pile of burnt bones. "They hunted recently", she made a note. "The darkness weighs on them as it does us."
"You should go back to Imladris", Thranduil said. Glorfindel frowned, noting the worry in his tone. Thranduil looked at Glorfindel. "She had a vision of Sauron. He wants her to join his side", Glorfindel's eyes went wide with the information. He looked at the Dragoness, who now wore a haunted look on her face. "My lady, it is in our best interests to go back to Imladris where you will be under the protection of Vilya."
Vilya was the ring of power given to Lord Elrond by High King Gil-Galad who died during the war between the Last Alliance of Elves and Men and Sauron. Elrond had served as Gil-Galad's herald back then and now Imladris was under the protection of Vilya. It was the reason that the darkness never touched the Hidden Valley.
Reluctantly, Eruanna agreed.
