Chapter IV
"How can you do this?", Hiriel shouted. "You have very well signed your own death warrant!"
"Meleth nin, how much longer can we endure this darkness?", Legolas asked. "It was this darkness that separated you and Eruanna from me. Do you know how much I would have rathered the two of you staying with me in Greenwood? But because of the darkness I was forced to send you both away and could seldom see you!", Legolas said. "How shall I bear that?."
"How shall I?", Hiriel cried out, her grey eyes filled with worry.
"Legolas, you have a Kingdom and a daughter to look after. Your people need you. Your father needs you. Valar, you are all he has left!", Elrond cried out. "I cannot allow you to go on this mission, I will not allow it!."
"You cannot keep me here against my will, Lord Elrond! Do you not think I am disregarding thoughts of my Kingdom, daughter and wife? If we succeed, the darkness will be gone! Eruanna and Hiriel can live with me again! The darkness of the forest will be cleansed!", Legolas said. Everyone stayed silent.
"I have been stabbed, beaten, bitten and whatever else. If the Ring is not destroyed, we may as well all be dead before we see the Fourth Age of the Sun! I fought orcs and spiders bigger than you for Valar's sake!", Legolas cried out.
Aragorn stood up. "Adar, I need him", he said, looking at his adoptive father. Lord Elrond sighed. "We need him. His spirit and his expert skills with the bow. We need his advice and the knowledge of his enemy. It won't be possible without him!."
Elrond looked at his foster son and Legolas with admiration. They had grown to become wonderful friends and powerful men in their own right. Eruanna smiled at them both. "Please try to not go to the Halls of Mandos, it will take us forever to reunite", she said.
Legolas grabbed her hand and kissed it. "I swear it", he said. Aragorn bowed to her. Elrond sighed. "What on Arda will I tell Thranduil?", he asked.
Eruanna smiled. "I will tell him", she said.
Aragorn looked at his old friend. He knew Eruanna was hiding something. He could tell she was still worried. "Are you worried, Eruanna?", Aragorn asked. Eruanna Úlumiel looked at him. "It is Boromir I worry about. I do not know of his intentions, but they do not seem beneficial to all of Arda. I fear he will try to claim the ring himself and bring it to Gondor. Should the ring fall into
the hands of men, men who are so easily seduced by their power, Arda could lapse into darkness once more", Eruanna said.
"The elves are leaving Arda. When we've gone, if darkness lingers, men will be doomed. This darkness must be dealt with and extinguished before the last of the elves sail to Valinor", the Lady Úlumiel continued.
"Sauron will be defeated, my lady. We will see it done, I swear to you", Aragorn said bowing his head. Eruanna smiled. "Be wary of the Steward's son, he may not be what he seems", she warned.
The next day, it came time for the Fellowship to depart. Eruanna hugged her father and friend goodbye as she stood in between her aunt and her mother.
"The Ring-bearer is setting out on the Quest of Mount Doom. On you who will travel with him no oath, nor bond is laid to go further than you will. Farewell. Hold to your purpose. May the blessings of Elves, Men and Free Folk go with you", Elrond said.
The company bowed and Gandalf spoke. "The Fellowship awaits the Ring-bearer", Gandalf said. Frodo turned and timidly walked to the head of the group, the eyes of those who had sworn to go with him meeting his own. "Mordor Gandalf, is it left or right?", Frodo asked. "Left", Gandalf said.
As the group left, Aragorn and Legolas turned around, bidding a silent farewell to Eruanna, Arwen and Hiriel. The three elleths acknowledged and Eruanna sent a silent prayer up to the Valar to protect them.
And they were on their way.
Later that evening, Eruanna had sent out word to her paternal grandfather, Thranduil. Glorfindel and Erestor looked her in the eyes.
"Do you think this will be accomplished?", Glorfindel said.
"We must have faith and hold on to the last bit of hope we have. If we don't have hope during these dark times, we have nothing", Eruanna said.
"Or we could always snag a spot on the next ship to Valinor", Erestor muttered.
"And let Middle-Earth stand alone?", Elladan piped up from his place.
"They will defeat evil. Aragorn gave me his solemn oath and I believe they will succeed. Aragorn has sworn oaths to me before and no matter how small or big it is, he has always fulfilled it. He
knows his destiny and he has been working towards it ever since he found out his true identity", Eruanna said.
"What of your father?", Elrohir asked. "What of the man Elladan and I see as a brother?"
"As for my father", Eruanna said, giving Elrohir a pointed look. "I may not have been with him my whole life but I know him. He has fought in a forest wracked by darkness. Since that hasn't brought him down, I highly doubt this will. As elves, we have benefits that dwarves, hobbits and humans don't. The Fellowship could use it to their advantage."
Glorfindel chuckled. "Perhaps if there were more elves like you and your father, Gondolin would have survived. We'd be struggling but holding on nonetheless."
Eruanna Úlumiel smiled faintly. She remembered Glorfindel had been a lord of Gondolin, the mighty Elven Kingdom in the Elder Days. Often, he had told her tales of the great city, ruled by Eruanna's great-great-grandfather, King Turgon.
"Many Kingdoms have risen and fallen. But Imladris will live on. So will Greenwood. I will personally see them to the end of the age or until the day I sail, for I am not just a lady of Imladris, I am also a Princess of Greenwood the Great and I am the only Dragon Princess that the people of Middle-Earth and Aman will ever see."
Ahead, the dragons roared as they left for their scheduled hunt.
