Amaryllis Foxglove

District 1 Female

82 HG

Amaryllis Foxglove was not a happy tribute. The bloodbath had been a complete and utter disaster. The fact that she had three kills under her belt was impressive, but the Pack had been cut in half in the bloodbath. Maren, Dismemberment, and Casimir were all dead. She, Kallias, and Sibylline were the only Careers to survive. The three of them had spent the evening discussing their next steps. The Nines were definitely on their kill list. Kallias had seen the boy kill Casimir and Sibylline claimed to see the girl take Maren's head off.

No one saw who killed Barry, and that was what bothered Amaryllis more than anything.

Amaryllis stared at the campfire, at the spear that was doubling as a poker, trying to conjure a memory, but the last thing she saw was him crying after stabbing the girl from 12 to death. Barry was pathetic, but he was also huge. The fact that someone had taken him down unnerved her. An axe had been buried in his skull, but the odds of it being Seven was so low. She was more focused on getting the little twerp she called an ally out.

The girl from Ten was long gone.

That only left two suspects, Kallias and Sibylline.

If Sibylline had been the one to kill Dismemberment, Amaryllis would have understood. He was young, half-trained, and ultimately a weak link in the long run. She just would have appreciated some honesty.

Amaryllis looked up at Kallias and their eyes met. They both turned to look at the boy from 4, who was staring up at the stars.

"Hey, Sibby?" Kallias began.

"It's Sibylline," Sibylline snapped back.

Kallias's eyebrows furrowed and his lips pursed.

"Sheesh, okay, sorry. Sibylline. Did you happen to see who killed Barry?"

Sibylline slowly sat up and stretched. "Does it matter?"

Amaryllis frowned deeply. "Sibylline, if you did, neither of us blame you. We'd just like to know. That's all."

Sibylline rolled his eyes and walked over to the fire. "Damn, it's cold." He picked up the spear and gently prodded at the fire. "Yeah, I killed Barry."

"Why?"

"I thought you said you didn't blame me."

"We don't," Kallias breathed. "We just want to know. If we're going to be allies, we need to be open."

Sibylline circled around and Amaryllis felt the heat of the spear behind her on her back. "Good thing we're not allies, then."

Before Amaryllis could register the implications of those words, the spear punched right through her and her world exploded into pain.

"Why?"

vii. blades behind your back

Spears have blades too? Anyway, I decided to take a little creative freedom with this prompt and write THAT scene from the Demon of Azure Lake from Amaryllis's point of view. I noticed District 1's been getting a lot of love lately, but don't worry! Next chapter will be different!
