Author's Notes:
So, by some miracle of God I actually managed to churn out Chap 0.2 before my busy week starts.
Chapter 0.2 (Ruby Rose) —
Who Was The One Who Gathered Us All Here?
As always; when Ruby Rose woke up in her bed, she required some stretching to get her brain moving.
With a big yawn, she sat up on her bed before kicking herself off it. Sticking a perfect landing, Ruby looked at her teammates and found them still in bed, but clearly awake as they all stretched their limbs with deep breaths. "Goo~d morning, Team RWBY!" She cheered, though made sure to keep it soft enough so as to not make both Weiss and Blake so grumpy in the morning.
She watched as the rest of her team sat up at their own pace before continuing to stretch. " " "Morning." " " They all mumbled out. Ruby wasn't surprised to see Yang's hair was the messiest of them all, whereas Weiss was somehow perfectly untangled as it was every night. Blake on the other hand somehow managed to sleep without losing her bow (again), with her wavy dark hair making it difficult to confirm if she ever suffered from bed hair like the sisters.
With a nod, Ruby cheerfully hummed as she made her way towards the bathroom. It was rare for her to beat Blake, since the Faunus girl keep-The sight that greeted Ruby when she entered through the bathroom door caused her to blink in surprise and shock. She could feel her jaw dropping, and why wouldn't it?!
"Rubes?" She heard Yang call out to her, and as she walked back out, she had to shut the door while leaning on it because her brain had trouble understanding what she just saw. She wasn't staring at anything in particular, but even then she could feel that Blake was staring at her. She heard Yang hopping off her bed too, before her sister called out to her. "Ruby? Are you okay?" She asked in a tone that Ruby hadn't heard for a few months now.
"Girls." Ruby said, seeing all of them were looking at her in confusion and concern. "The bathroom got bigger." She explained with the same tone of voice she just used.
She saw them all making faces at her. And Ruby resisted the urge to pout. They'd understand if they saw just how much bigger the bathroom had gotten!
"…What?" Blake said, in a typical Blake tone.
"I'm telling you! The bathroom got bigger!" Ruby repeated herself, even waving her arms up and down because seriously! How in the world did their bathroom get bigger without any of them noticing?! It was the same size as it always was last night! So whoever renovated it had to do it while they were asleep!
"Ruby… ," Yang eventually spoke, again using another tone of voice Ruby hadn't heard for months. "…that's… ."
"Impossible." Weiss, despite being Weiss, pulled off an amazing act of (grumpy) Blake as she finished what Yang was going to say.
And Ruby gets it. She really does! She didn't blame any of them for not believing her! And that's why all Ruby did was line herself up with the bathroom door before opening it again, gesturing for them to see for themselves.
Weiss just continued to give her a Blake-stare, whereas Yang looked at Blake and the two partners gave each other unsure shrugs before her sister walked forward to see for herself.
Ruby felt (just a tiny bit!) smug when she saw how stumped her sister got at the sight of their bathroom. Eventually, her sister found some words. "…Oh my god, the bathroom is bigger." Was what she said. Huh, that felt kind of familiar… .
Weiss rolled her eyes, getting up from her bed and making their way to the sisters to see for herself. "You're both being ridiculous, there's no way-." She cut herself off when she saw the truth. And Ruby would admit she felt a bit more smug at seeing the Ice Queen being at a loss for words.
Instead of the (relatively) small bathroom Team RWBY had grown used to; it's now big enough to have four sinks along with four cupboards that were color coordinated to fit each member of Team RWBY. Ruby found it so cool that each cupboard had been painted to match them, though she wasn't sure if her and Yang's were actually painted or if the wood were naturally coloured like that.
The bathroom's larger size was to account for the new bathtub they now have, though the toilet and shower (which was also bigger) had been repositioned to account for the sinks taking up so much space at once since they were all next to each other.
"…You were saying Ice Queen?" Yang snarked, as Weiss was taking a bit longer to find her words.
"I-! How-?! When-?!" And even then Weiss couldn't even finish a sentence. Like Yang, Ruby had a grin at seeing the usually "calm" and "proper" Weiss being so utterly stumped. (Hehe!)
"Uh… guys?" Blake's voice pierced through their conversation. Turning around, they saw Blake standing at their closet door and… .
…Oh wow.
"The closet is bigger too." Blake pointed out, though Ruby had grown used to the sound of Blake's voice to tell that the almost always cool Faunus girl was stumped. And Ruby couldn't blame her either as the rest of Team RWBY slowly entered at their own pace.
It was like stepping into a fairy tale. With the soft colored wallpaper, matching decorations and furniture. Though, Ruby guessed it'd be more accurate to say it was like stepping into one of those really fancy clothes shops that she only saw from the outside. There weren't any fairy tales that shared Team RWBY's iconic colors, after all.
It surprisingly worked, even if the closet was separated into four main parts that made it clear which clothing belonged to who. Like how the bottom right of the closet was mainly coloured yellow with brown and orange clothing hanging from the rackets. In contrast, the top left was mainly red wih lot of black clothing hanging on the-
Hold on a sec!
Is that-?!
"My baby!" Ruby cried out, immediately activating her Semblance and dashing to the stairs!
"Ruby!" She heard Weiss calling out, but paid it no mind to instead focus on climbing the stairs and skidding across the floor to stop right in front of Crescent Rose (Rifle Mode). The poor girl was hanging in a (admittedly pretty) display case as if she was one of those fake weapons that'll break if you swung them too hard.
A quick inspection of the case led to a really fancy handle which let her immediately break her baby out of her prison, and gave her a big hug. She must've been so scared, having been kidnapped from her rocket locker!
"Why are all our weapons here?" She heard Blake asking. A quick peek showed that Crescent Rose had been neighbors with Gambol Shroud, formerly surrounded by black and white clothing but now secured in Blake's hands as the Faunus girl walked back downstairs.
Still, she asked a pretty reasonable question, who'd put their weapon in a closet of all places?
…Okay, maybe Weiss does it. With a closet this big, Ruby couldn't even blame her if she did it back home.
Wait, she's super rich. Mysternaster might have sisters.
Mentally, Ruby gasped at the thought. If Mysternaster has sisters, Ruby wouldn't ever forgive Weiss for leaving them behind!
"…Did you hire your family to renovate our dorm?" Looking down, she could see Yang putting on Ember Celica while looking at Weiss.
"Of course not, you dolt!" Aha! So she's not the only person Weiss calls a dolt! Thank goodness! "Not only would my father never approve of it, but this closet is taking up so much space that it must've replaced Team DEAR's bedroom!" Unlike the rest of Team RWBY, Weiss left Mysternaster in its prison to instead inspect the various white clothing placed near it.
They weren't all white, Ruby noticed. Not fully, at any rate as some of them were complimentary colors like black and blue. Actually… .
"And their bathroom." She overheard Blake commenting, as she approached her section of this big ol' fairy tale closet. "And their closet. It might even go all the way to Team RBTN's dorm."
"Does that mean our toilet replaced Team PKKL's dorm too?" Ruby softly asked, as she grabbed one of the many red clothes placed on top of the drawers yet beneath the copies of her usual outfit as well as the outfits she planned on wearing throughout Beacon. The bathroom was nowhere near as big as this closet, but Ruby wouldn't be surprised to hear if it took up at least Team PPKL's closet.
With a flick of her wrist, the cloth unwraps itself to reveal… a strangely matching red cloak, like the one she usually wears. Blinking, Ruby let it drop to the floor to grab another cloth and… yup, another red cloak.
Drop, grab, unwrap; cloak. Drop, grab, unwrap; cloak.
…Weird… . It's like, wow these are a lot of red cloaks. Way more than what she owned. Pulling on some drawers, she could see way more different colors rather than just black and red.
Pull up, unwrap; cloak. Drop, pull up, unwrap; cloak.
Oh, neat! Looks like these are all cloaks of different colours! Not sure if she'll ever wear them, but it's nice to have options!
Looking back at the display case, Ruby looked at Crescent Rose again. She did this multiple times as she debated whether she should put her baby back in its prison. It was a pretty nice looking prison, and now she was wondering if she should get one for back home so Crescent Rose had somewhere really nice to sleep whenever Ruby wasn't using her… .
Well, okay. Not often they get to treat themselves like this!
"…My father isn't picking up." Focusing back on her teammates, Ruby noticed Weiss looked… like she had to go to the bathroom as she glared at her scroll.
"Team JNPR isn't picking up either." Yang added, frowning in a way that Ruby hadn't seen for a few years now. She was holding her scroll too.
"Neither is Velvet… or the rest of Team CFVY." Blake said, and Ruby could feel a tension slowly creeping up on them. Her gut was telling her even if she did rush back into the main room to grab her Scroll, dad wouldn't pick up. Sure, maybe it was because he slept in for once, and hey maybe that was the case for everyone else, but with something so major happening without Team RWBY being aware at all despite how impossible it all sounded… .
…Whelp! That won't do! Sure, it was weird and worrying, but it's not like they were defenseless!
"It'll be alright." Ruby told them, walking down the stairs a bit while carrying Crescent Rose. With a smile on face, she said "Our weapons are here. And it's not like we have to go out in our jammies." before pulling on her pajama pants a bit. Looking back at her team with a wider smile, she suggested, "So how about we just get ready for the day before asking the professors if they know anything about the renovation?"
The rest of Team RWBY gave her and each other looks of doubt, before an infectious smile from Yang caused Weiss and Blake to ease up a bit and nod in agreement. With a nod of affirmation of her own, Ruby turned her gentle smile into a mischievous little grin as she looked at the others, who didn't quite realised what Ruby waking up first meant.
"Dibs!" Ruby called out, zooming down the stairs and past them to claim the bathroom first. She could easily hear Weiss calling out to her again, and this time Yang joined in too but nope! Ruby called dibs, meaning she didn't have to wait FOREVER at having to take a shower because her sister and her partner hogged the room to themselves.
Quickly locking the door behind her, Ruby let out a sigh of relief because man could those two get territorial on who gets to use the bathroom. Ruby wishes that they at least let her and Blake use them first since they took the longest, but nope! Yang claims "big sister privileges" (blegh!) while Weiss… well, at least Weiss was just stubborn about it instead of making things up!
This time, Ruby took a better look at the bigger bathroom. It was nice, like those fancy hotels that she mostly got to see from when some students back at Signal bragged about when they came back from their vacations.
They now had four sinks that were colour coordinated, along with matching wooden cupboards attached to the sinks as well as placed right on top. Across the sinks were where all the towels were placed, either hanging or neatly folded. And of course, each one specifically coloured to a member of her team. Thankfully there's only one shower, bathtub and toilet. Though placed differently from where they originally were from when the bathroom was smaller.
It was weird, but definitely pretty cool! Seeing a bathroom and closet specifically designed after Team RWBY made Ruby pretty excited. What if after graduation everyone agreed to live together and bought a house? Would that house look like anything like this room and the closet? Well, she doubted wherever they lived would be big enough to replicate the size, not without it ending with Weiss having to pay for everything at any rate, but it would be pretty cool to design everything with everyone.
Tucked away in-between Ruby's section of the sinks and the bathtub was a stepping stool. Oh, neat! She was wondering if she had to bring something in to reach the higher shelves. For now though, she'll just take a peek at the bottom drawers to see if any of her stuff was in there.
… .
…Okay, they were. But there were also a lot of soap brands here that Ruby didn't recognise. Like… a lot. Her stuff was placed neatly right at the front, it looked like the cupboard went on FOREVER from how dark it was. Sheesh, what bad lighting.
Sticking her arm in for the heck of it-.
… .
Ruby frowned and took a look at the side cupboard. She placed her left arm and lined it up. …Yup, she knew it. She could touch the back wall pretty easily (well, with the cupboard door closed at any rate).
Looking back into the cupboard, she got suspicious from how… dark it got further in. She stared at the drawer as she thought about it, and figured, why not? Might as well test it out.
So she pushed aside all the soap bottles and-yup. Like she thought it was bigger on the inside. Sheesh! Ruby was sure she could fit her whole body into this thing!
Pulling back out, Ruby suspiciously looked at the sink that had been right on top of her before looking back into the cupboard. She placed her hand where piping for the sink out to connect and just… okay, now she was testing it she didn't know why she thought she could figure out the piping (not without breaking it with Crescent Rose at any rate…).
But it didn't change the fact that this cupboard was weird!
She closed the doors of her section, looking to her right where all of her team's designated spots. Hm… Weiss would kill her if Ruby messed with anything of hers, and she'd rather not push Blake's buttons even with how easily she could take things in stride.
Luckily, Ruby has little sister privileges. Yang wouldn't mind if she messed with her stuff a bit, especially if it was to figure out a mystery!
…And as she suspected, Yang's cupboard was the same. Same mysterious brands that Ruby never heard off before (though from the smells she tested, it was stuff Yang would definitely like), same deep black space that went further than it reasonably should. Now that she thought about it, the upper shelf was quite sturdy seeing as it could handle her weight.
Quickly checking the other two-and sure enough that feeling she got from staring at the back of the cupboard came. Ruby immediately closed the drawers belonging to Weiss and Blake before rearranging the items in Yang's the best she could. Going back to her cupboard, Ruby hummed to herself.
Sure she could tell the girls about the weird deep cupboard now, or she could do it later after she had her shower and got ready for the day. Besides, all these body wash scents had such pretty bottles, it'd be kinda a shame to not use one, right?
Hm… Sakura Rose… . Huh, weren't sakura those pretty pink flowers from Mistral?
Whelp, it has Rose in the name! So chances are it'll smell nice!
Ending Notes:
Personally, not all that satisfied with how I ended this segment here. Nor am I please with some choice of words I used since it doesn't "sound" like Ruby, as it were. I'm sure some of you can point how I can further improve each chapter. Anyway, hope you overall enjoyed this Ruby POV. If you're wondering how long before we reach Chapter 1… well there's 9 planned segments total so… until we reach 0.9 I'm afraid. Till next time, whenever that may be!
