Chapter 5:

Nidoran Split

Red's eyes rapidly moved back and forth as he scanned his surroundings at the same time he ran through them. Every subtle movement of the trees, the sound of Pokémon moving around, the smell that drifted through the air and the chatter of other people was all computed near instantly. All the data his 6 senses picked up was then transformed into a single path he could clearly visualize in front of him.

Perfect timed turns, zig zag motions that needed to be cut perfectly and the right speed he needed to reach, or avoid, to risk getting into any kind of random encounter.

Above the light of the sun graciously spilled onto Route 1, blessing the world with its beautiful warmth.

Red kept running. His mind was generating the future as he crossed through this area that had once been a huge obstacle. Thanks to his new technique Frame Perfect Routing, his mind was able to calculate the perfect position he needed to be in and through his own actions he was creating a future that he wanted.

The air blew past him and at times, it almost felt like Red was flying. He was now moving at top speed, his feet struck the earth and devoured it, his heart was pumping while the adrenaline kept flushing through his body.

This is going to be the run. Red thought as he kept focusing on the path ahead. He blew past trainers and Pokémon alike without any trouble, and at times he had to question whether he had discovered a glitch in reality or if his speed only gave him the illusion of flight.

The city of Viridian came into view rather fast and any other person would've been forced to slow down, to adjust their course, but not Red.

No, not only had Red memorized the layout of Viridian's streets, no, he'd been here before and back then he had scrutinized and analyzed every detail of the city until the image in his mind was even more accurate than the real place.

Red didn't need to slow down, he was speed. He was inertia, the unstoppable force.

The Pokémart came into view at the end. Earlier in the run he had done a perfect set up strat he had labeled: TBT (Throw brick through window).

By tossing a decent sized object at a glass wall ahead of him, he could glitch through the wall and skip the door opening cutscene which saved him a good 5 seconds.

As the Pokémart grew closer Red smirked. The gaping hole in the storefront was still there. He was afraid they would've patched it out, but it seems that the Viridian cops were busy doing something else.

No worries.

Moving his body in an almost impossible angle, he jumped through the hole and crashed onto the floor of the Pokémart.

Now comes a rather tricky segment. It wouldn't save a huge amount of time, but all small time saves would add up in the end.

As he landed onto the floor of the Pokémart, Red turned his head sideways and was looking directly at the shelf with all the standard issue Pokéballs.

Perfect, last time he had been here, which had been a long time ago, he'd thrown the brick right where the Pokéballs should've been, knowing that in the future he would be able to save time here.

Red opened his backpack and slid arm across the shelf and the Pokéballs dropped into his backpack. After that, he reached into his pocket and fished out a stack of Pokédollars, tied together with a plastic wrap. He had counted the perfect amount before and weighted it.

Red spun around and with a long arc, he tossed 1600 Pokédollars over 2 isles.

He couldn't see it land, but Red knew that it had landed in front of the cashiers.

Red nodded and charged out of the window.

He never noticed that the cashier had left a while ago and that the entire place was abandoned due to his earlier entry.

Of course he didn't notice. The timer was ticking. Every second a cruel reminder of the finite nature of his life, and the world over all.

Red ran through Viridian, leaving behind a lot of angry, surprised or whooping cries. He narrowly dodged a car that crossed the street, and narrowly dodged 6 more after it until he reached route 22.

He reached a rocky patch of road that led deeper into Kanto. On the side of the road thick bushes hid any Pokémon that would hide within it.

Or at least, they would hide from anyone that wasn't Red.

He came to a stop in front of the first patch of grass and exhaled deeply, allowing himself to breathe in and out for exactly 20 seconds.

He was on the clock after all, now even more so than normal. Whereas in other segments being off time would only lose him seconds, here, the run depended on him being perfect, more so than ever.

His ears twitched, he tried to sniff out the scent of the reason he was there.

Some noise from the left. A strange warmth from right and the sound of chewing from further away. It was only when Red focused on his own senses that he could see the path laid out in front of him.

The path was shaky, barely there, but he could foresee the sequence of events that would lead to his goal.

He took a step to the left. To the right, left again and then, he took a step forward into the grass. He waited exactly 2 thirds of a second and then brought up his arm into a 20 degree angle. He spun his body eastward, exactly 160 degrees and at a speed of 89 miles per hour, he tossed the Pokéball.

Somewhere in the grass, almost out of sight of anyone, a Nidoran was minding his own business. That was until he heard strange sounds coming from the path, curious to figure out what it was, he moved a little bit further outward until he saw a strange kid making even stranger movements with his body.

And then, all of a sudden as if he could smell him, the boy turned, his eyes glowing like a psychic and his stench that of a monster.

A black blur was headed toward Nidoran and the thought of running almost was given enough time to crystallize, but then the Pokéball crashed into Nidoran and instantly knocked him out.

A/N Good job Red, another segment done well!

Thanks so much for all the followers and favorites again! So happy : 3
