Notes from the Underground - Part 1

Alex and the Turtles were currently walking their way through an old abandoned subway tunnel below New York City, all holding flashlights and carrying backpacks, passing an old train.

"You're probably wondering as to why the five of us are down in an abandoned subway tunnel deep below New York."

The tunnel then started rumbling and shaking so much that rocks and pebbles started falling down.

"A tunnel so fragile and decayed that it would collapse over the smallest noise."

And as they all walked on, they gasped upon seeing a large creature approaching them from ahead

"As well as some creature roaring at us at the top of its lungs."

The creature roared, freaking the brothers out, and causing the ceiling to crumble and fall apart, the support beams also snapping apart.

"Let's just say that we found ourselves in the middle of a real life monster movie."

The ceiling soon turned into a cave in and they all ran away as fast as they could.

In the lair, late into the night, Mikey was in the middle of watching a black and white monster movie. The scene currently playing had the main character, a male scientist, holding a woman in his arm while wielding a ray gun. The woman screamed as a monster approached them, roaring at them.

"Doctor, I've never seen anything like it!" The woman said with a voice full of nothing but fear and terror.

"Me neither, Velma." The scientist agreed with her, putting on a brave face. "I'm rapidly becoming convinced there are some things man was never meant to tamper with."

Mikey ended up quoting him with the second half of his dialogue.

Then a commercial break played, showing a man in country clothes and a cowboy hat.

"I must be insane, friends, I'd eat a bug to sell you a car." The man said, holding a bug in his hand before eating it. Mikey then finished off the last of his potato chips and threw the packet away. "Mm-mmm, now that's good eating. If that don't tell you I got the best used car deals in town -"

Mikey turned all the TVs off and yawned as he got up.

Nearby, Donnie was in the middle of examining and studying the crystals that they found when they first moved into their new lair, currently looking at one via a microscope. The desk lamp being the only source of light.

Alex was helping out as he felt like he had to know more about these crystals, not to mention the lair as a whole, since it all clearly belonged to some kind of ancient civilisation with pretty advanced technology, reminding him of Atlantis.

"Hey, Donnie, whatcha doing?" Mikey asked.

"I'm checking out these crystals we found when we moved in here." Donnie replied.

"We've been trying to classify them, yet there's nothing like them in any of the books." Alex explained.

"And the microscopic crystal structures are linked, almost like mutated brain cells." Donnie then revealed, which made goosebumps crawl up Alex's back.

"Ooh-wee-ooh." Mikey said with his hands next to his head up to Alex and Donnie.

"Excuse me?" Alex furrowed his eyes.

"I beg your pardon?" Donnie questioned.

"Late night monster movies." Mikey answered as he moved the desk lamp to shine on him, some shadows present. "'Perhaps there are some things man was never meant to tamper with.'"

He then chuckled as he grabbed two of the crystals.

"Nothing says a turtle can't tamper though." He then remarked, annoying Alex and Donnie as he ended up placing the two crystals against each other.

This ended up making them not only glow, but also emit an eerie ringing sound, shocking the three and even waking up the rest of their family.

"What the shell?" Alex gasped, being really creeped out.

"Donatello, what is it?" Splinter asked as he exited his room and as Leo exited his, yawning. "What is happening?"

"What's with the noise/" Raph asked as he and Leo leapt down from the top floor.

"I'm not quite sure." Donnie replied, honestly baffled.

Unknown to all of them, far below the city, deep underground, the ringing can be heard, as it has awoken three creatures that growled and snarled like they were dealing with an enemy.

One of them was red with yellow eyes and large clawed hands and two stingers protruding from its back.

The second was grey with red eyes, its skin resembling rock and was larger in stature.

And the third had blue skin, long hair, yellow eyes, two horns and two mandibles on its bottom jaw. It was also the most human-like in terms of its form and size.

Back in the lair, Donnie used a pair of crucible tongs and picked up one of the crystals, which stopped the glowing and ringing.

"Are we in any danger, Donatello?" Splinter asked, making his son turn to him.

"Maybe the harmonics of the energy signature of the crystalline structure -"

"You don't know, do you?" Raph asked, cutting Donnie off.

"Not a clue." Donnie replied.

"That's a first." Alex muttered, not really liking that fact.

"I started the whole thing." Mikey said with a grin as he wrapped his arms around both Donnie and Raph.

The alarm then went off, surprising everyone.

"Now what is it?" Leo asked with concern.

"Something tripped a perimeter alarm in one of the old subway tunnels." Donnie answered as they all gathered around his computer.

On screen, they saw said tunnel and suddenly, a black figure zoomed past.

"Whoa!" Alex gasped, his hand over his mouth with more goosebumps crawling up his back.

"What in the -?" Lep muttered.

"Sewer rats are getting bigger." Raph frowned as he pulled his sais out.

"Yeah, time to cut the cheese." Mikey remarked, making Alex and Leo shake their heads in annoyance. "That's not what I meant."

"Let's roll." Leo ordered and all five brothers ran to the garage where they house the Sewer Slider. Donnie made sure to grab his duffle bag along the way.

All five rode the Sewer Slider to the subway tunnel with Donnie behind the wheel.

At one point, they drove past a rat that sniffed an empty and crumpled soda cup as they zoomed their way through the sewers.

"Let's not announce ourselves. Switch to Stealth Mode." Leo requested as they neared their destination.

Donnie pulled a lever that made the vehicle turn silent and soon they reached the tunnel and Donnie parked the Sewer Slider, keeping the headlight on.

Everyone got off and walked into the tunnel.

"Nothing." Raph said as they all started looking around.

"Don't be too sure." Donnie advised as he shined a flashlight up at the ceiling, where they all got a good look and rather odd looking footprints that ended up onto the left wall.

"They seem to come from a bipedal creature." Alex said with confusion, considering the placement of the footprints. This confused him because he couldn't think of any bipedal creatures that can crawl on walls and ceilings.

"You're right. And that's odd." Donnie replied as he shined the flashlight further down the tunnel, following the footprints until they reached a hole right into the wall. "These weird tracks melted right into the stone."

All of them, except for Mikey, got closer to the hole.

"Whatever it was, it tunnelled right through the cement." Raph added as Donnie shined the flashlight down the hole.

"And whatever did this could not be any animal we know of. Since they aren't able to melt stone and rock." Alex pointed out as Donnie handed the flashlight to Raph as he rummaged through his duffle bag and pulled out a small hammer and a plastic bag.

"Looks like the molecules have become unbonded." Donnie said as he hammered away a small part of the melted rock into the plastic bag. "Maybe some kind of catalyst or an acid?"

"Okay, this is the part in the monster movie where the first attack happens." Mikey started to freak out, turning towards the Sewer Slider. "The first guy never makes it, need I say more!"

"Mikey, please calm down until we find out what we're dealing with." Alex urged.

"What is this?" Leo asked Donnie.

"Another mystery." Donnie replied as he put his bag on his shoulder. "One thing's for sure though, I've never seen anything like it."

Mikey ended up repeating word for word the second half of his sentence, panic increasing in his voice.

"That's it, I'm outta here!" Mikey then panicked and jumped onto the Sewer Slider, spinning his nunchucks out of fear while his brothers watched him calmly and amused.

"Hey, what do you get when you cross a turtle and a chicken? Mikey." Raph joked, making Alex snort.

"I need to get back anyway, to analyse this and find out what we're dealing with here." Donnie admitted and they all walked to the Sewer Slider, though Alex glanced back at the hole, as he had that unnerving feeling that something was watching them from within the entire time.

His suspicion turned out to be true as a pair of glowing red eyes appeared in the pitch black hole, along with a growl.

Back in the lair, Donnie wore a protective mask as he poured acid onto the rock sample he took from that hole they discovered in the tunnel, steam rising up from the rock.

"Hmm." He said after taking the mask off and placing his hand on his chin in thought.

"Was that a good 'hmm' or a bad 'hmm'?" Mikey asked frantically. "'Cause this is the part in the movie where we should be looking for the monster's one weakness or we can kiss our shells goodbye! Trust me, you don't want to underestimate a monster!"

Raph got so annoyed that he threw the rest of his water that he was drinking into Mikey's face, which he shook off.

"Thanks." He said, now having calmed down.

"What can you tell us, Donatello?" Splinter asked as he stood next to Leo, who was in a meditating position.

"It looks like that creature melted right through the stone. Being able to liquify stone is the perfect ability for a subterranean life form." Donnie explained his findings.

"I am hearing answers that raise more questions." Splinter stated. "A wise strategist gathers all his information before deciding on a course of action."

"Anybody up for a fact finding mission?" Leo asked everyone as he got up.

"If something's out there looking for us, I say we find it first." Raph offered his opinion.

"Yeah, especially if it has any pals." Alex nodded in agreement.

"All in favour, say 'aye'." Leo said as he snapped his fingers.

"Aye!" All but Mikey said as they placed their hands on top of each other. They all looked expectantly at Mikey.

"Uh… meep." He squeaked as he raised a hand.

"Close enough." Leo shrugged.

"Good luck, my sons. May you return safely." Splinter wished as they all, except Mikey, went off to get ready.

"Yes, my brothers, good luck to you." Mikey said, imitating Splinter, being so desperate to not go searching for the creature.

"Come on!" Raph snarled and dragged Mikey along.

Leo packed a grappling hook and some food into his bag, just in case, considering they don't know how long this trip may be.

Alex packed his survival gear and equipment, including matches, a swiss army knife and a water bottle in his bag.

Mikey held a comic book about monsters, which made his teeth chatter, annoying Raph before putting it in his bag, laughing nervously.

Donnie picked up the two crystals, placing them together to make them glow and ring before separating them and putting them in his duffle bag.

He then carried it and joined up with his brothers.

They all made it back to the tunnel where the hole was located, Donnie shining a flashlight on it.

Leo was the first to climb in, then Alex, followed by Donnie.

"After you." Mikey told Raph, who stared at him knowingly for a second before crawling into the hole.

Mikey then started tip-toeing his way to the Sewer Slider, but Raph, knowing he'd do this, came back and grabbed the back of his headband and pulled him back.

The five eventually made it to the other end of the hole, each of them using flashlights, and found themselves in an abandoned subway tunnel.

"Some background history, Donnie?" Alex asked Donnie, knowing he'd done his research.

"There's a whole network of abandoned subway tunnels from the early nineteen hundreds down here." He explained as they started walking down the tunnel.

"Abandoned? Right." Mikey scoffed at the idea, considering their current situation.

They all stopped when they heard noises above them from the ceiling.

"Hear that creaking?" Donnie asked, on edge, as he shined his light at the ceiling, seeing dust and pebbles falling from cracks. And the support beams looked like they're about to fall apart. "These old supports should've given out long ago. I suggest we all be really, really quiet."

"I second that." Alex agreed with him in a quiet voice as they all continued their way down the tunnel.

But they were unaware that the grey and blue monsters were following them in the shadows.

The five now ended up in what looked like a mine shaft that carried on from the subway tunnel.

"Any sign of the creature's tracks?" Leo asked quietly as they all searched with their lights.

Then Alex stopped when he found one.

"Guys." He called out to his brother, who all gathered around him and looked at the footprint.

"Nope, nothing, let's go home." Mikey said, just beyond desperate to get out of there.

"Stop being such a baby and man up like the rest of us." Alex shook his head before they all continued down the tunnel, Mikey reluctantly following.

They didn't go too far ahead when the tunnel started shaking and rumbling with small rocks and dust falling from the ceiling, making them gasp.

"Shh! Everyone be still." Leo ordered quietly.

But the dust was irritating Mikey's nose so much that he was about to sneeze. Thankfully, Raph covered his mouth and nose before he could do so.

"Not a sound, got it?" He hissed quietly before letting go.

"I got it." Mikey replied as he covered his nose.

Everyone kept moving forward, except Mikey, who let go of his nose, which got beyond irritated and sneezed, which echoed up and down the tunnel, making part of the ceiling collapse, though the dust and small rocks stopped falling.

"Mikey, for crying out loud!" Raph snapped in frustration as he and the others faced Mikey. "Next time, bring an antihistamine!"

"Hey, how am I supposed to stop a -" He stopped talking when he saw something horrifying behind his brothers. " - a huge, grotesque, and quite frankly horrifying monster!"

As he started freaking out, they all turned and saw the large grey monster approaching them, shocking them all with horror.

It then roared at them, which started a cave in, and they all ran for it as more of the ceiling caved in on itself.

They soon reached the end of the tunnel and jumped to give themselves more distance, though this caused their flashlights to go out, leaving them in pitch black darkness.

"This just gets better and better." Raph said sarcastically after they all coughed.

"Just a sec." Donnie said before he pressed the two crystals together, giving them light, allowing them to get up safely and gather together.

"You think that thing survived?" Raph asked.

"Know your monsters, Raph! It can melt rock!" Mikey snapped at him.

"Oh, yeah, maybe I forgot because I was trying not to get buried IN A COLLAPSING SUBWAY TUNNEL!" Raph roared right in Mikey's face.

"Everybody calm down!" Leo barked.

"Yes, please! Let's just focus on keeping moving!" Alex sided with Leo.

Donnie led the way, since he had the crystals, still following the footprints, which took at least another hour or two before they all stopped when they reached a cliff that led further underground.

Donnie handed the crystals to Mikey as he needed to go through his duffle bag and pull out a rope. Mikey handed him back the crystals and tied the rope to a rock before he started climbing down the cliff with Alex climbing down next, followed by Mikey.

As this was happening, they were being watched by the grey and blue monsters.

Raph went down next with Leo bringing up the rear.

Once Donnie made it to the bottom, he rested against the cliff.

"I'm beat." He moaned as Alex reached the bottom, who fell to his knees and curled up.

"I don't think I can walk any longer." He groaned as Mikey joined them, dropping his backpack and got on his knees, bracing his lower back.

"Even my backache's got a backache." He moaned as Raph joined them, bracing against the cliff and then Leo finally joined them, also bracing against the cliff.

"Let's make camp." He suggested.

"I second that." Alex groaned still.

"You up for first watch?" Leo asked Raph, who twirled his sais.

"You know me." He replied.

An hour later, Raph sat up against the cliff, keeping his eyes and ears open as the others slept in their sleeping bags. They used the crystals as a kind of campfire to provide light.

Raph snapped himself out of dozing off and kept his eyes wide open.

Among the brothers that slept, Alex found himself having a rather odd dream.

It started with him entering the lair, which, when he stood in the centre, started spinning until he was face to face with the door to the elevator.

As he approached it, it started glowing in a strobing light, which increased in intensity as he got closer.

Just as he was about to touch the door, it opened up, a bright light blinding him to the point that he had to shield his eyes.

Once the light vanished, he found himself not looking at the elevator, but instead, an ancient underground city surrounded by a lake of lava.

"What the actual shell?" Alex gasped, stunned to see such a sight as he approached the city.

He ended up walking among the rather silent and lifeless city, its architecture looking very much like the kind the lair had.

"What is this place?" He asked himself, hearing his voice echo.

He soon found himself standing in front of a large black tower, where a large black cloud formed and approached him, its shadow engulfing him.

"Oh, crud." Alex muttered in a shaky voice as a red mouth formed, roaring at him and then snapping at him, making him run away.

"GO AWAY!" He screamed.

"Go away!" He said in his sleep.

"Guys, wake up!" He then heard Raph say urgently, which managed to wake him up as he sat up bolt upright, covered in sweat.

"What's going on?" He asked as he got to his feet.

"Everybody up! We're under attack!" Raph shouted as Leo, Mikey and Donnie also woke up. "Our friend is back!"

The whole place started rumbling with dust and rocks falling down and they all heard growling from nearby.

"So, running would be good, right?" Mikey asked.

"Huh?" Leo gasped as he saw the red monster pushing a boulder off a nearby cliff.

"RUN!" He shouted and so they all grabbed their bags, Donnie also grabbing the crystals, and ran for their lives at top speed from the boulder, which was gaining on them as they entered into another tunnel.

"Man, don't you hate when this happens?" Mikey complained as they kept running.

They ended up skidding to a stop when Raph noticed something bad.

"Oh, great! The bridge is out!" He groaned as they reached a broken bridge.

"Now what?" Alex questioned, looking over his shoulder, worried about the boulder.

Raph pulled out his grappling hook and started spinning it as the boulder came into view.

"HURRY UP, RAPH!" Alex cried out.

Raph then threw the grappling hook, which swung around a rock on the other side of the bridge and dug into it.

"Grab on!" Raph shouted and his brothers all held onto the rope.

"Cowabunga!" Mikey cried out right before they swung across the bridge, barely missing the boulder as it smashed the end of the bridge they once stood on as it fell down into the river below.

They all yelped as they ended up on the cliff on the other side of the bridge.

"Mikey, I told you, no more cowabunga!" Raph hissed through gritted teeth.

The weight of all five of them made the grappling hook slip on the rock, making them shout and yelp with worry.

"It's slipping!" Raph stated the obvious.

"Now what?" Mikey asked.

"Crack the whip! On my signal!" Raph instructed. "One, two, three!"

They all swung back and flipped over just as the hook gave way and they all landed on their feet. First Raph, then Mikey, then Alex, Leo and Donnie.

"I like a little excitement first thing in the morning." Mikey remarked as he and Raph looked down at the chasm below.

"How are we gonna get back with those things playing bowling for Turtles and humans?" Raph then asked as he looked back across the gap.

"I have no idea. It's like they have it out for us. And we didn't even do anything to them." Alex sighed as Donnie noticed something behind them.

"Look at this." He told his brothers, who all turned to see that he was next to a pair of large doors that looked like they were ripped open. He then pulled out the crystals for some light.

"Not to make things worse, but you'll notice the door was forced open, from the inside." He pointed out as they all gathered by his side, examining the doors. "Something was trying to get out."

"Oh, that doesn't make things worse, it makes things horrifying!" Mikey retorted sarcastically with a panicked voice.

"Just shut up." Alex shushed him and pushed him forward as everyone entered into what looked like a long abandoned and trashed laboratory that had four tanks, one of which was smashed. And it also seemed to use a crystal like the ones they have as a power source.

"Anybody got a clue what this place is?" Raph asked before they all took their bags off.

"I'm pretty sure this is a lab. But what kind of lab?" Alex asked as they entered further in.

They all split up and looked around, seeing what clues there were about this place.

Alex managed to spot claw marks on some of the tables and rock walls, suggesting that the monsters they've encountered must've come from here.

And Donnie noticed what seemed to be a dissection table among other things.

"I'm seeing devices related to physiology, biology, genome analysis." He said as his brothers gathered back up with him. "My guess? This is a genetics lab. They were experimenting with mutation."

"So the monsters had to have come from here. But why would anyone want to make them?" Alex pondered.

"Ooh-wee-ooh!" Mikey just had to say, annoying his brothers as he stepped backwards unknowingly walking through a yellow laser beaming, setting off an alarm.

"MIKEY!" His brothers all groaned as a couple of shutters closed up, sealing them inside the lair.

"Over there!" Donnie pointed out to the crystal in the centre of the lab.

It started lighting up until it then formed some kind of energy field, making them all gasp.

"What the shell is that?" Mikey asked worriedly as the energy field started to spread out, inching closer towards them.

"Looks like some kind of force field!" Donnie guessed.

Raph ended up wielding his sais and jumped at the force field, trying to stab it, but it forced his hand back while his sai went right through it.

"Wha?" He gasped, shoving himself against the shield, facing his brothers. "Oh, what now?"

"Something's telling me 'do not touch'." Mikey assumed.

"Is that so?" Alex rolled his eyes as Raph turned to face the force field and they all started backing away from it.

Donnie soon tripped and fell onto his shell and flipped over onto his feet with help from the force field.

"Don, you okay?" Leo asked as Donnie put the crystals on his belt and tried pushing against the force field.

"Looks like this energy field only affects living tissue!" Donnie strained as he kept pushing against the force field.

"Too bad that's exactly what we're made of!" Raph replied as he pulled Donnie away.

Alex moved past a control panel that Leo jumped over, helping him up on his feet until they all found themselves pressed up against the rock wall.

"Donnie, what do we do?" Leo asked urgently as the force field started pressing them against the wall.

"I'm thinking! I'm thinking!" Donnie replied as everyone pressed their hands against the force field.

"Well, think faster or we're all gonna be a whole lot thinner!" Mikey advised as they all grunted against the pressure of the force field pressing them against the wall.

Alex recalled the crystal in the centre of the room.

"That crystal is the power source! Raph, throw your sai at it! Hurry!" He said with urgency.

Raph grunted as he pulled out his sai and threw it right through the force field and hitting the control centre, which started sparking as the force field finally vanished, making the five all fall on their plastrons, or chest in Alex's case, watching the crystal's energy flowed back inside it and stopped glowing and ringing. The shutters then opened back up, allowing them to exit the lab if they needed to.

"Whoa. Close one." Donnie gasped as they all got to their feet and he walked towards a monitor.

"Nicely done, Raph." Alex patted a hand on Raph's shoulder.

"Thanks, bro." Raph smirked. "And that's the end of that."

Mikey grabbed and handed Raph his sai that he dropped inside the force field.

"It's only the beginning." Donnie said with concern as Raph put his sai in his belt. "Look at this."

Everyone gathered with Donnie, Raph grabbing his other sai, and looked at the monitor, which showed static until a familiar foot symbol formed, making them all gasp.

"It's the sign of the Foot." Donnie gasped.

"Honestly, it's like that Foot symbol shows up whenever we end up in some kind of trouble." Alex groaned, getting sick and tired of it.

"What is it this time?" Raph snarled, just as sick of it, as Donnie walked over to the control centre.

"Let's find out." Leo said as they turned to Donnie.

"These look like some kind of archived video logs." Donnie said as he pressed some buttons. "I'll see if I can access them."

After pressing a few more buttons, they looked back at the monitor, which now played a recording showing a whole bunch of Foot Technicians at work.

"Day one, project commences." A man, clearly the man in charge, said, looking more obese and grisled than the other technicians. "Master Shredder believes his enemies have taken refuge underground. Our Foot Soldiers have been unable to locate them…" The recording cut to a man strapped to a dissection table with three Foot Technicians surrounding him. "...so the genetic division has been directed to mutate human subjects, so that they can explore deeper into the Earth."

The man looked frightened as a strap that also worked as an injector attached itself to his right arm and a green substance entered his body.

"No! Please!" The man begged as he gritted his teeth and started sweating.

"The subject appears to be in some discomfort but this is a minor annoyance." The lead technician said, shrugging it all off like it was an inconvenience as the man started twitching and screaming in agony, turning into something inhuman, a monster.

"That poor guy." Leo said in sympathy.

"Those disgusting Foot!" Alex snarled in rage, seeing the lows they'll go to achieve their goals, which now included turning innocent people into monsters, all so they could search for Shredder's enemies.

"This is starting to get really weird." Mikey gulped.

"Starting?" Raph questioned as the next video log played.

"Day three forty five, the experiment appears to be a success!" The lead technician said as footage of the tank tubes showed three monsters being placed in them, actually being the same monsters that chased after Alex and the Turtles. "Though the subjects are exhibiting reduced intelligence."

Then the next video log played, showing the lead technician, sweating tensely, and his fellow workers looking at the monsters as they growled and clawed at the tanks.

"Day five seven five, the creatures are showing signs of instability…" He said, watching the blue monster growl and claw at the tank, like it wanted to attack him, making him step back. "...becoming angry and vicious!"

Donnie joined up with his brothers as they all continued watching.

"Certain aspects of the experiment have gone horribly wrong! Have we attempted too much in developing this unnatural life form?" The lead technician second guessed himself. "Perhaps there are some things man was never meant to tamper with."

Mikey quoted his last sentence, making his brothers all look at him.

"That's the one line in a monster movie you don't want to hear!" Mikey stated as his voice started having panic etched in.

The next video log started, showing a rock wall and a green acidic substance being spat at, dissolving a hole into the rock.

"Through the generous use of shock restraints, the creatures have been trained to retrieve evidence from their explorations." The lead technician explained as the red, grey and blue monsters walked through the hole, the blue one moving like a bug.

Then it cut to the next video log, showing the lead technician's face grinning among the sounds of cheering.

"Day six nine nine, the project is a success!" He said, stepping back and showing his fellow workers all cheering and celebrating with drinks in their hands. "Our creatures have found evidence of habitation underground, which has been turned over to Master Shredder. I've been told he is quite pleased."

Hearing this made Alex remember that dream of that underground city. Could that be the habitation that they discovered?
Then the next video log showed the lead technician sitting on his own at the control centre.

"Day seven thirty three, the settlement we found is not what Master Shredder was searching for." He said, slamming his fists on the console before walking up to the camera recording the log. "He has pronounced the project a failure. We have been ordered to shut down the operation, and destroy the creatures.

When the next and final video log played, it showed the lab being attacked with it being on fire and falling apart, the technicians screaming and running for their lives among the roaring from the monsters.

"The creatures have freed themselves! They are more intelligent than we ever dreamed!" The lead technician revealed with a frantic and horrified voice.

A technician was thrown from the roof, limp and on fire while another got thrown across the lab, uniform torn and screaming.

The lead technician, his goggles shattered, was now surrounded by fire as an alarm went off.

"They - they have been manipulating us all along, waiting for their moment to escape!" He said in fear before he backed away from the monsters roaring at him. "No! No! Keep away!"

The blue monster pounced at him and the grey monster reached for him, making him scream in horror.

The recording then turned to static, leaving all five brothers shocked and even horrified.

Then they heard growling from outside the lab, making them gasp and Mikey to cling to Leo.

"So there's always one guy in the monster movie who freaks out 'cause he can't take the pressure." He said just as he let go of Leo. "And I'm gonna do an impression of him right now and it goes something like this. Get me outta here!"

He ran away to leave the lab.

"Not that I'd agree with him, but he's got a point." Raph told Leo.

"Yeah, I think we've outstayed our welcome by now." Alex added.

"Agreed. Fun's over. Let's go." Leo nodded and they all followed after Mikey, grabbing and putting their backpacks on by the entrance of the lab and Donnie used the crystals for light as they left the lab.

They made a right turn and walked until they stopped when the rock wall in front of them dissolved, a hole forming and increasing in size until it stopped as a claw appeared and then the blue monster stepped out, followed by the red monster and then the grey monster, which punched the hole bigger to walk through.

The blue monster crawled on the wall until it jumped off and landed in front of the five brothers, hissing at them, its fellow monsters by its side, all snarling at them.

"Guys, this isn't the end of the movie, is it?" Mikey asked as they pulled their weapons out.

He didn't get an answer as the three monsters charged at them, ready to attack.

This whole Notes from the Underground arc is one of my favourites of the whole show, partly because of how genuinely creepy and scary it is, especially this episode. I do hope one day to make a horror story just like this one.

And the reason for Alex having the dream instead of Mikey is because in the third part, I want to show more of Alex's emotions when put under certain circumstances.
