Ok, before I start this crossover/alternate ending, I'm going to talk about my thoughts and rants about this mass extinction event of an episode. I just want to let it out of my chest!
Keep in mind that this is my own personal opinion so if you don't want to read this, just scroll down to the actual introduction or skip to the next page!
Now, don't get me wrong, even though I'm more of an Ed, Edd n Eddy fan, but I like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and it's definitely a Cartoon Network classic and worth the watch and nostalgia (The show is now 20 years old as of the August of this year), but I do have to admit that I think it's overrated!
Why is that? Well, while I wouldn't say it's bad or terrible, I just don't think it's the strongest of animated programs on Cartoon Network (as well as Craig McCracken and his wife Lauren Faust's works), even for its time. While I love the show for being creative, colorful, having its funny and memorable moments, and likable characters (Mostly Mac, Frankie Foster, Eduardo, and Wilt), but there wasn't any character development in it (with some exceptions such as in Good Wilt Hunting), some of the jokes were kinda unfunny, stereotypical, and dumb, several of the other characters (outside of Terrence and Duchess who are the villains and are intended to be this way) like Mr. Herriman, Cheese, Madame Foster (sometimes), and of course Bloo (he's mostly likable and tolerant in earlier episodes and a jerk with a heart of gold, but it was in future seasons where he's an unlikable, obnoxious, uncaring, full-on jerk) are unlikable, harsh, unpleasant, unrelatable, and cruel, had a lot of out of character moments in some episodes (such as in Frankie, Mac, and even Wilt) for no reason as if they act like an on-and-off switch, and while the series started out decently, but it's the later seasons where it features episodes such as this episode, Everyone Knows It's Bendy, Imposter's Home for Um… Make 'em Up Pals, Foster's Goes to Europe, Bye, Bye Nerdy, Crime After Crime, Duchess of Wails, and Where There's a Wilt, There's a Way that are hated and despised by fans and viewers young and old (even to this day) for how very mean-spirited and sadistic they are, having less funny humor, where Bloo became more unlikable, unpleasant, and obnoxious than he was earlier in the series, drags the plot, and causes trouble and chaos, and are 11 to 22 minutes of the characters getting mistreated and tormented (both physically and psychologically) for no reason with no lessons learnt and had terrible morals. Even the imaginary characters that were introduced in them such as Bendy, Goofball John McGee, and "Artie" that I am going to talk about a lot here were unlikable, obnoxious, unpleasant, forgettable, and one-dimensional.
I know most people hate and considered Everyone Knows Its Bendy and Imposter's Home for um… Make em Up Pals as the worst episodes of the series and I agree that they're bad and mean-spirited (at least Lauren Faust who wrote Bendy was regretful about it and apologized to the viewers, while it was recently revealed from a Twitter post that Imposter's wasn't meant to be that way and the reason they changed it into this mess of an episode we got was due to Cartoon Network wanting it to be made more child friendly and for that reason, both Bendy and Goofball were written out of the show and were neither seen nor mentioned; I even felt sorry for Frankie Foster in the latter for what she's been going through and how horribly treated she was), but I Only Have Surprise for You stands alone as my most dreaded and despised episode of the show and this is sadly one of the reasons why I didn't get into that as I was with Ed, Edd n Eddy and why I didn't watch it despite being very big on Cartoon Network back in the mid-2000s (At least I still watch Ed, Edd n Eddy after If It Smells Like an Ed, Your Ed Here, and the 'School era' episodes; as much as I dread If It Smells Like an Ed, Jimmy does have a good reason to frame the Eds, well Eddy mostly since he did gave him the wedgy, and that's for relatable reasons, unlike what Bloo did to Mac in this episode). Because… Uhhh, FUCK this episode! No really! FUCK this episode to death! Like seriously? Why was this disappointing and evil episode even made and existed right from the start? Why was it greenlighted and released? Who in the hell came up with this garbage and thought this was a great idea for an episode? What were they thinking?
Seriously, I mean SERIOUSLY! Who in the hell does that to their own best friend? That's NOT being a good friend and that's NOT a friendly thing to do, that is a DICK MOVE!
I remember watching that episode ONCE when I was in my mid-teens back then, when I was about to enter high school. That's because my younger sister, who was three at the time, enjoys watching Cartoon Network at the time and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends was among the several cartoons she watched back then. I didn't watch it a lot often because I was a teenager back then and I mostly care about Ed, Edd n Eddy. When I was downstairs watching my sister, that was the first time I saw the episode and it was terrible and cruel and I was like, "why was my sister watching this terrible episode that's very mean, cruel, sadistic, and unpleasant, and how badly treated Mac was."
This episode is one of the main reasons why I'm not a huge fan of Bloo and why he's not really my favorite character in the series. I mean I don't hate him, because he does have his moments (mostly the earlier episodes), but as the series progresses, he became a selfish, whiny, unlikable jerk to other people, including his best friend, creator, and owner Mac. While this isn't the first and only time Bloo was an unlikable jerk to Mac and other people, but in my honest opinion, this is, without a doubt, him at his WORSE and where his Flanderization was at its peak. He is such a huge PRICK in it and made me wanna kick him HARD in the genital area.
It really bothers the FUCK out of me as to wonder why after this mass extinction of an episode, Mac keeps coming to Foster's to see, hanging out with Bloo, caring for him, considers him his "best friend", considers the only thing that makes him happy, and make sure he doesn't get adopted, even when Bloo (and sometimes other people in the house) was becoming an annoying, whiny, obnoxious jerk and prick to him, doing unnecessary things, upsets and frustrates him, and annoys him a lot? I mean I know that it's the main plot of the series, I know the events of the pilot episode (House of Bloo's), I know that they're the main characters, I know that they're best friends (which is fine), and I know that the series wouldn't be the same and get ruined, but this doesn't make any much sense with all of this and it's definitely a big head-scratch.
Also why is everyone, and I mean everyone, in Foster's from youngest to eldest and from shortest to tallest, including five of Mac's only good friends (Frankie, Eduardo, Goo, Wilt, and Coco), agree on all of this, assist Bloo, and turn against Mac and do such a DICK MOVE to him [Especially the fact that many of the residents of the titular mansion, mostly Mr. Herriman, Wilt (This is especially out of character as opposed to the fact that he's really nice and kind, says 'Sorry!' a lot constantly, and dislikes lying to people), and Frankie were really intolerant and distasteful of Bloo's troublesome behavior]? They were manipulative, stupid, dumb, obnoxious, sadistic, crazy, and completely out of character as they were so mean and cruel to Mac, it's like they hate/dislike him and wanna make his life miserable and a nightmare. They're doing something like what his older brother Terrence does! It feels like that they don't care about Mac at all for no reason and only care about themselves and each other (especially that STUPID "Artie" that I'm going to mention about later) and no one even stood up or helped Mac. It feels like they're better off without him.
What makes them WORST is that they NEVER apologized to Mac, realized their mistake, felt ashamed and regretful about it, made it up to him, and stood up to him (Unlike what they did with FUCKING "Artie"), even after this episode [Ok, it's possible, but unconfirmed since this was NEVER shown on camera, that they did, considering the fact that in future episodes and seasons, Mac not only comes to Foster's and hangs with Bloo, but he also didn't suffer post-traumatic stress disorder, was never mad and angry at anyone around, and trusts and get along with Frankie, Wilt, and other residents of the house, while the others in Foster's were in character, not being jerks to Mac, not even mentioning and referring to the infamous prank against Mac that they all took part in, not laughing about it, and not teasing, annoying, and making fun of Mac about it, and that they, mostly Frankie, Wilt, Coco, and Mr. Herriman, were still intolerant, resentful, and distasteful of Bloo's troublesome and annoying behavior, which could also imply that between after this episode and before the next one that Bloo gets scolded, scorned, and punished for his actions in this episode; not to mention that Madame Foster's Artie costume or even Artie in general if he was real was neither seen nor mentioned in future episodes, not even in the show's finale Goodbye to Bloo, perhaps suffering the same fate as Bendy and Goofball McGee (No wonder, because he is SOOO forgettable); also in The Bloo Superdude and the Great Creator of Everything's Awesome Ceremony of Fun That He's Not Invited To, Mac gets and celebrates his birthday and everyone at Foster's does the kind of thing that seems like what they would do for Mac on his birthday; also in the aforementioned Goodbye to Bloo, although a shameless reference to this godawful episode, did throw in a surprise party for Mac in a more nicer and positive way and did not humiliate him, while Frankie says to him sorry and that she and the other residents knows that he hates surprise parties and this could imply that after the episode's infamous ending and Bloo's "One! Step! Ahead!" line, things have gone horribly wrong as Mac did snap and gotten infuriated at not just Bloo, but also Frankie, Wilt, Eduardo, Goo, and all the other Foster's residents for their backstabbing, lying, and humiliation on him, punishes them, and then saddens and cries about it, while the residents realized their mistake and understands and make this up to him; but given that these are just speculations as they were not confirmed and the fact that this was NEVER shown on screen at all, that still doesn't help and it makes everyone unlikable and makes their actions in this episode inexcusable and unforgivable; Or maybe the episode, for this reason, is non-canon like with Bendy and Imposter's, but again, it is NEVER officially confirmed if it's NOT canon, oh wait I forgot, it probably is canon because of the aforementioned part in the finale, son of a bitch; I know most shows don't have continuity and follow the story properly, but still]
So why, and I mean WHY, especially that it's in a place (and show) that's called Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends?!
I don't know and I guess, sadly, we'll NEVER know and that's making the episode WORSE.
Even Mac's own fucking mother in the flashback sequence was also out of character and unlikable, even for a neglectful useless parent as she (along with Terrence) was shown taking part of throwing the surprise parties for her son and humiliating and tormenting him and doesn't seem to mind about that and Bloo's horrible misdeed. What the frig?! What kind of a parent would let them do this to their own child?!
So, for whatever reasons it was (whether it was the same problems in production Bendy and Imposters had… or most likely not), Tim McKeon who wrote this evil piece of shit somehow got away with it after it was greenlighted. Like WTF Tim?! I guess he doesn't like Mac, huh (Hell, he also wrote Bye, Bye Nerdy and Foster's Goes to Europe that are, unsurprisingly, Mac torture episodes)?! Maybe this should've been called Foster's Home for Imaginary Bullies, or Foster's Home for Unlikable Jerks, or Foster's Home for Crazy People (as what the clown in this episode's post credit states).
At the same time as this goddamn episode, interestingly (but unsurprisingly and depressingly), Tim McKeon would also eventually create the critically-panned live action-animated TV movie and series, Re-animated and Out of Jimmy's Head that is said to have kickstarted what's known as the dark age of Cartoon Network when they start airing live action shows on a network focusing on animated programs and was a failed attempt to copy the Disney and Nickelodeon formula. This would reach its peak in 2009 with the airing of a programming block known as CNReal hosted by Andrew W.K. that features five live-action reality shows instead of airing any original animated shows. So, yeah, because of this episode, I'm not really a big fan of Tim McKeon at all.
Even "Artie" (I know "he's" not real since its revealed to be actually Madame Foster in disguise, but, even so, still) is literally one of the most forgettable, one-dimensional, pointless, blandest, poorly-written, and uninteresting characters EVER (Why does everyone care and worship this green piece of garbage than Mac), I forgot his name and spelling and even his design and appearance, even for an imaginary friend, was ugly, hideous, horrifying, nightmare-inducing, poorly-drawn, and unmemorable and not very creative! It felt like a shameless knock-off of some sort of character from a pre-school show! No joke! It's true! Maybe, because of this episode (and several others), I just don't care about imaginary friends from that series at all, not even the slightest. I just DON'T care about them as much as what Gian Magno and I had with prehistoric, extinct, modern, and extant animals. Ok, I love Wilt, Eduardo, and Coco for their design and personalities (and some others like Uncle Pockets for that reason; even Bloo had his moments), but even that just doesn't help. In fact, I actually love Plank and Jib (Who Let the Ed In?) from Ed, Edd n Eddy, Koosy from Dexter's Laboratory (played by the late Dom DeLuise), and Hobbes the tiger from the Calvin and Hobbes comics than this.
In fact, this episode plays like a 22-minute-long Robot Chicken joke that's a spoof of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends where Mac goes paranoid and crazy and everyone else is a sociopath and right down to Bloo's "One Step Ahead" line. That would be more fitting and make more sense than what we got in the actual Cartoon Network series.
You know, similar to what Rob Walker was saying (and ranting) about The Cat in the Hat (2003) in him and his brother Doug's real thoughts on that awful movie, this is how I felt of this Foster's Home episode: It's literally a Shakedown where they led a bunch of fans and viewers young and old into the TV room, pulled out guns, grabbed the fans and viewers, shook all the money out of their pockets, destroy all the merchandises and fanarts they brought in, toss them out, and said 'Go FUCK yourself!'! That's exactly what I Only Have Surprise for You is! That's all this episode really is!
So, for that reason, similar to how I did with Ed, Edd n Eddy's If It Smells Like an Ed, I had thoughts of doing an alternate ending of I Only Have Surprise for You, where after that episode, Mac was so angry and furious and so fed up of being at the receiving end of another one of Bloo's annual embarrassing birthday surprise parties on him and everybody in the Foster's mansion took part of the evil, sadistic, cruel prank, took advantage of him, lied to him, guilt-tripping him into thinking he ruined a "4th birthday" party for an 'imaginary kid', backstabbed him, laughed, and all mocked him for it, he decided that this was the last straw: he decides to run away as far away as he can, never returning to Foster's, never trusting everyone in the mansion, never be friends with Bloo and the others, leave him for adoption, and not being humiliated and tormented again, while, with the exception of Bloo and Madame Foster, several of the house residents, in particular five that are close friends with Mac, had paid a price and realized their mean, cruel mistake, how they've gone too far with this prank, and felt regretful and ashamed of what they've all done to Mac and so, Frankie Foster decides to go out (w/out Mr. Herriman noticing), get Mac back, make this up to him for what she and everyone did to him, and end this chaos before he gets taken by the circus to be housed as a freakshow attraction (due to his Macco the clown outfit) and get tormented by Terrence.
But when I saw someone did a 'What If' post on DeviantArt of Ed, Edd n Eddy-Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends x-over film, that gives me an idea of it, where after I Only Have Surprise for You, Mac decides to run away from Foster's and never return and never trust all the residents, but ends up in the cul-de-sac in Peach Creek where he meets and befriends the Eds and the other kids since then and having adventures with them since then.
This would've been similar to The Lion King where Simba meets up with Timon and Pumbaa, the Ace of Base song "The Sign", and DeviantArtist's named admiralDT8 x-over The Loud House with the Splatoon video games taking place after the former's episode No Such Luck.
So, with that out, I'm gonna start this with a bang: by writing just the whole plot of I Only Have Surprise for You, so viewers be warned, this page might be rage-inducing. If so, skip to the next page!
Introduction: Foster's Home for Unlikable Jerks
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, the mansion where imaginary friends lived after they were brought in by their creators and owners due to outgrowing them and remained there before being adopted by a new person, may be a place of fun, wackiness, and adventures and this was for the one person that comes very often to this place, mostly after 3-o-clock in the afternoon: an 8 year old boy named Mac who mostly comes to meet up with his "best friend", an anthropomorphic blue blob by the name of Blooregard Q. Kazoo, or "Bloo" for short, that he created five years prior and make sure he doesn't get adopted like he promised him the day he was introduced to the mansion. Yet other friends that he's close to and get along with in the mansion includes Eduardo (a large, horned, Mexican monster with a kind and gentle heart), Wilt (a very nice and kind red imaginary friend who loves basketball and has been in the mansion for years), Coco (an imaginary chicken-plane-pineapple hybrid who only says "Coco!"), and Frances "Frankie" Foster, the 22 year old beautiful, attractive, red-haired care-taker of the mansion and granddaughter of Madame Foster (the founder and owner of the mansion).
However, there is a dark side to this mansion and it has skeletons buried deep within their closets.
Since Bloo was first introduced into Foster's, he has become more of a self-centered, obnoxious, unpleasant, whiny jerk who always causes trouble, mayhem, and serious problems, doing actions that are mostly illegal and unnecessary, gets on everyone's nerves, including Mac, cares more about himself than anyone around, and doesn't learn his lessons from his actions. But there was one incident (and catastrophe) he created that was so bad, so cruel, so sadistic, so unforgiving, and so evil and unpleasant, that it turned not only Mac's life, but the entire Foster's Home and its denizen's upside down.
Every year, Bloo humiliates Mac by throwing him birthday surprise parties and even gets his mother and his older brother Terrence and his school classmates in on it. The first surprise party, when Mac was five, by having everyone greeting him while he's in the shower. The second annual surprise party was forcing Mac to drink from a dog bowl like a dog by replacing ketchup with hot sauce and turning off the water from the sink. The third humiliation is having Mac wear tutu instead of his towel after his shower. Because of these, Mac detests surprise parties and despite Mac telling him to stop doing these embarrassing surprise parties for him every year, Bloo never listens and still continues to do those. And that's where things start to go horribly (and catastrophically) wrong!
As Mac arrives at the Foster's Home, he notices that Bloo is giggling about something. Because of this and it's around the exact day he dreads, Mac thinks that Bloo is throwing a surprise party for him in which Mac really HATES and cannot stand, due to getting tormented, ridiculed, and humiliated by them. Mac then gets paranoid with everyone in Foster's, thinking they're working with Bloo, despite that they rudely told him otherwise, while Bloo constantly tells him that there was no party going on, but Mac doesn't believe him. So, he asks Mr. Herriman to make sure Bloo doesn't throw a surprise party for him and embarrassed in which Herriman agrees. But even with that, Mac see's that Bloo and many of the other residents of the mansion, including a young girl named Goo who has been coming to the mansion very often since she first met and befriended Mac, are getting prepared for a surprise party and hears a lot of rumors of a surprise party. Because of this, Mac gets scared, terrified, and anxious. He then goes crazy and went on a violent rampage in his Rambo-like outfit as he tries to stop Bloo and the others from throwing the embarrassing party, destroying two parties, its accessories, and ruining Frankie's cake, only to be told by the rest of the Foster's residents that the second birthday party in the library he destroyed was for a "four-year old imaginary child" named "Artie" "created by" Goo. As it made "Artie" running away in tears, Mac gets told off by Mr. Herriman and the Foster's residents were all mad at him and HATE him for ruining "Artie's birthday", with Frankie, Eduardo, Goo, Coco, and Wilt giving him the cold shoulder while angrily leaving him to wallow over his misery. Saddened, emotionally hurt, and feeling guilty about it, Mac begs Bloo to make this all up to "Artie" and so, the blue blob agrees and the two cleaned up and re-did the whole party and have everyone arrive. After that, Bloo forces Mac to dress up and act like a clown in front of everyone, because 1) "Artie" loves clowns, 2) it is the only way to cheer "him" up and 3) as a price Mac had to pay for ruining "his" birthday. So, reluctantly Mac does as Maco the clown and once again, humiliates himself and gets ridiculed. During it, it's revealed that "Artie" was Madame Foster in disguise, and it turns out, that the party WAS for Mac. This turned out to be another plan from Bloo of what he calls the B-Team he led: have Mac destroy two parties, then have him feel so bad that he'd make another party and this time humiliate himself. The whole Foster's Home (except Eduardo who was just told to come in through an invitation, even though he's not completely innocent), including Frankie, Wilt, Goo, Coco, Mr. Herriman, and Madame Foster had all tricked, betrayed, and lied to him this whole time as a rule set up by Bloo and Mac himself is left to suffer deliberate humiliation at yet another surprise party that doesn't even celebrate his birthday. To add insult to injury, Bloo said that he'll always be one step ahead of Mac, causing him to leap into the cake when he tried to attack him in retaliation, much to everyone amused, laughing and making fun of the poor kid, and Bloo, with a sadistic grin gloat to him "One! Step! Ahead!".
But what neither Bloo, nor Frankie, Eduardo, Coco, Goo, Wilt, Mr. Herriman, Madame Foster, and all the residents of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends that are all part of the infamous B-team realized that they all have crossed the line and gone off the deep end and are about to pay a price for their terrible deed and mistreatment to Mac. And already, while humiliated, ridiculed, and taunted and buried in the birthday cake, Mac's blood is boiling, his face is fuming red, his teeth grits and grinds, his eyes are bloodshot, his muscles tightened, and his heart is pounding.
This would be the final straw, the final nail in the coffin.

Note: For the aforementioned list of residents that took part of the sadistic B-team, I didn't rewatch the actual episode for obvious reasons. I use the Foster's Home wikia, the Watchmojo video "Top 10 Cartoon Character Changes That Made Fans Rage Quit", and the episode's end credit. So, if there are some I missed, write in the comments.
I don't own anything!
