Chapter 31

Gin watching the scene with a sad frown. He should've been killed in the first. But then Towa was able to revive him and bring him to this manor that welcomed him. But now since he heard about this Misako escaped prison to come for Moroha. He has definitely got himself mixed up with a complicated issue.

"Gin." Sesshomaru said to him. Gin looks up at him immediately. "I want you to come with me." Gin nods as he follows the daiyoukai somewhere in the manor.

"So far you are aware about the fugitive that escaped the prison." Sesshomaru said so far as then enter his office. Gin nods silently.

"I want you to go to Sakura Hills and retrieve your sister." Sesshomaru orders him.

Gin nods again. "But since I'm alive, will the school know about how I was brought back?" He asks Sesshomaru nervously.

Sesshomaru types in a few seconds. "Towa received a text message the other day that had this picture." He shows the image on the monitor of his computer. "What about it?" Gin questions him.

"It took me a while to find out where that text came from. It was meant to be sent to me, not Towa. It was one of my agents that was keeping an eye on Misako at the prison. That's when he spotted her climbing that tree that was growing in the facility." He explains to the bull.

"Do you think the tree from there is linked to the one at Sakura Hills?" Gin asks him rather curiously.

Sesshomaru narrows his cold golden eyes, "The tree at the prison is meant to keep it a calm area in a remote location." He clicks the link that came with the picture. "There." He said.

"Abashiri Prison? Why there?" Gin asks him. Sesshomaru gets into the prison's security system thanks to his agent who was able to gain access to since Misako was locked up. "It turns out that Misako was being manipulated by the guards. Despite being a human, the tree was able to sense that and made it easy for her to escape."

Gin stands by the door, "I'll go to the school and retrieve my sister before anything happens to her." Sesshomaru snaps his fingers.

"You call, Lord Sesshomaru?" Riku appears in the room. "I need you to teleport Gin to school. When he retrieves his sister, you are to return here." Sesshomaru gives the order. "Yes Sir." Riku bows and flicks his earring to teleport himself and Gin to the front gates of the school.

"Are you able to pick your sister's scent?" Riku asks Gin nonchalantly. Gin nods. "Yeah, she must be in the one of the classrooms on the first floor. Gin runs in with Riku right behind. It doesn't take long until he sees her in the gym. "Mai!" He shouts out to her.

Mai gasps as she sees him. "Gin, but how?" She is speechless to say anything. Gin grabs hold of her and Riku is about to teleport them back. "I don't think so." Misako speaks from coming out of the storage room.

Gin holds his sister to protect while Riku gets in front of them.

Misako grins, "Well looks like the bull wants to return to place he was killed. I heard that someone wanted you dead due to jealously. Isn't that right, Mai?" She taunts the group.

Gin turns Mai to make her look at him in the eye. "Mai, how could you kill me? I'm your brother. You should know that by now." Mai is about to look down to show him how guilty and shameful she is. "I was jealous because I felt I was in your shadow that no one noticed me." She sobs.

Misako grins, "Now!"

Gin grunts as he feels something from his torso. "Mai…" He only spoke before dropping onto the floor. Riku, doesn't waste a second and teleports them back to the manor.

Sesshomaru waits patiently until the group reappear in front of him.

"My lord, Misako made Mai injured Gin." Riku spoke in between breathes. Sesshomaru uses his whip to wrap around the female bull's arms and make her drop the weapon with turns out to be a knight.

"Riku, get Kagome to heal Gin." Sesshomaru orders him. Riku disappears as Sesshomaru places the male bull onto the floor on his back.

"My lord, it was a trap. Misako told…Mai…" Gin weakly said to him. Kagome appears with Riku behind her. "He's been wounded in the torso." Kagome nods and begins to use her spiritual powers to heal the wound.

"Tell me who did this to you?" Kagome said to him gently. Gin groans, "My sister Mai was ordered to by Misako."

Kagome is able to close the gash where the wound is. "You need to stay here. Where is your sister?" She asks him.

"I'm right here." Mai responded. Kagome turns around to see the female bull tied up by Sesshomaru's whip.

"Care to explain why you would kill your brother?" Kagome places her hands onto her hips with a look of disappointment.

Mai looks down. "Look at me in the eye, Mai." Kagome sternly said to her.

"I was ordered to because of my jealously." Mai admits to her. Kagome shakes her head. "Really? Is that why you killed him? I think it had to be someone else who made you do it." She walks up to her.

"What are you going to do to me?" Mai asks as she tries to back away, but couldn't because her back is to the wall.

Kagome puts her hand in front of the girl, just above the forehead. She closes her eyes and her hand begins to glow pink.

Mai is in the middle of her homework in her house. Her brother was in the middle of a big game at the school.

"That's my boy." A male voice said to the son. Gin smiles in glee. "I can't believe we've defeated them." The mother hugs him as well. "I'm so proud of you, Gin." The father nods to agree. "I am as well." He then looks up to see Mai focusing on her homework. "Mai, come over here and congratulate your brother with his big victory." He said to her.

Mai sighs and does just that. She hugs. "Well done, Gin." She smiles to him. Gin runs up to the upstairs and clean up. "So Mai, when are you going to join a team?" The father asks her as she resumes her homework.

"I'm not joining any team, father. I'm not a great athlete like you or Gin." She honestly answers the question.

"Nonsense, you can pull it off if you tried." The mother said to her, trying to get her to join in.

"Mother, father. I've done that for years and not once was I able to make the team. Why can't you let me do what I love. I wanted to be the best student in the school. But every year until this point, Gin always had that glory. It's not fair." She slams her fist onto the table hard.

"That's because…"

A new memory appears in front of Kagome as she observes Mai in the lavatory. "My dear, what's the matter?" The one female asks her in concern. "Miyuki, I know for certain that I'll never be like my brother. Not athletically. I'm the more academic person in the family and no one appreciates me."

The next of Mai's memories, she's in the girls' locker room to change into her gym uniform. "I feel sorry for Gin." One of the girls said quietly somewhere else in the locker. Kagome sees her daughter and nieces looking at each other, knowing that their sense of hearing. Towa takes out a small device and starts recording, aiming at the source of the sound. According to their father, the device has a high frequency that will be able to pick even the quietest conversations from a twenty feet in diameter.

"Do you think that his family will go to his funeral?" Another girl asks the first one curious. It was obviously Miyuki.

"Why? Gin was usually the one with a temper that his own family would stay away from him, even now he's in his casket." Mai chuckles in the end.

Kagome opens her eyes to find herself back in front of the female bull. "You didn't want to kill with your own hands, so your friend did it instead." She said to her in scowl. "Care to explain what kind of being is she. Miyuki?"

Mai blinks her eyes. "I never said anything about her." Kagome narrows her eyes, "I was able to read your memories, and you said her name. What species is she?" Mai sighs, "She's one of Memori Nori's children. She's an incarnation of the demon tree. Did you see the Sakura band on her head?"

Kagome remembers seeing it in the girls' locker room. "Yes. Is that her charm?"

Mai nods. "Yea. She wears that to conceal her wooden appearance. She may be human, but she's a tree demon like the one in the school yard."

That alone made Kagome think. "Did she somehow make you satisfied about the deed?"

Mai frowns, "Not really. At once I was glad that Gin was out of the picture, even though he was popular, the students can't remember him at all. One day he's popular for his accomplishments, but then the next day, it'd be it never happened. That's why the tree's scent makes people forget about certain events at the school."

Kagome leaves the room to Jaken to look after her while she checks on her daughter and nieces. "Something doesn't add up." She mumbles as soon as she enters the room, the two swords are still in their spots to maintain the three girls stabilize.

"Did you get anything, Kagome?" Rin asks her first. "Mai admitted that she was jealous of her older brother's accomplishments, her parents don't like her academic skills. They wanted her to be like Gin in the sports thing. As such a so-called friend of hers manipulated her jealous to kill him." Kagome answers the question

Rin didn't like that answer but knows it's true.
