Thanksgiving: The Fox And The Boy

While on Thanksgiving vacation with the family at his Grandmother's house in Trofte-Minnesota, Cameron, his pup, Mickey, and his two cousins encounter a boy who has run away from home with his pet Fox to keep it from being killed and made into a Thanksgiving meal by his stepfather, the sheriff. And they soon find themselves hiding the boy and fox out at Cam's Grandma's place.

26. T25: Rocco Lies

T25: Rocco Lies.

"Grandma?" Came the voice of Rocco from behind.

Monica turned to face Rocco. "Yes, what is it, dear?"

"Do you know when my Mom and Dustin will be back? She promised she'd take me out for ice-cream." Rocco asked before noticing Sheriff Scar. "Uh, who is this?"

"This is Sheriff Scar. Sheriff, this is my grandson, Rocco." Monica introduced.

"Hi, nice to meet you." Sheriff Scar said.

"Nice to meet you too." Rocco said. "So...what brings you by?"

"I'm looking for my stepson, Will Manning. You see, he ran away five days ago and my wife, her ex and i are worried sick about him." Sheriff Scar said.

"What does he look like?" Rocco asked, trying to remain calm on the outside while maintaining shock and disbelief on the inside. Will's step-father was the Sheriff of Tofte?

Sheriff Scar handed Rocco the picture of Will. "Oh, i see. But...why would he run away?"

"I don't know. I guess it might be because of everything he's been through. First his parents got divorced last year in September...then his Dad moved to Indiana shortly after...then his Mom and i met each other and started dating in January...then we got married in June and moved in...and now his Mom and i might be having a baby. All of that's very difficult for any kid to process." Sheriff Scar said.

"Yeah, i guess it is." Said Rocco. "I'm really sorry. But i haven't seen him anywhere around here." He said before handing the picture back to Sheriff Scar.

"Thanks." Sheriff Scar said.

"I'm really sorry this is happening to your family. Especially when it's so close to Thanksgiving." Monica said.

"It's okay, it's not your fault. It's no one's fault, really. Will just got lost in the family his mother and i were trying to create for him. And maybe we got so caught up in that, we forgot about him." Sheriff Scar said.

"It happens. But it's not your fault either. Like you said...it's no one's fault." Monica assured.

"You're right. None of that matters now. What's important is finding Will and bringing him home. And that's what i intend to do. Shetiff Scar said.

"Good for you. Well...good luck with finding your stepson. If we found anything out, we'll let you know." Monica said.

"Thanks." Sheriff Scar said before he walked off the porch, down the steps, over to his 70s sheriff police car, opened the driver door, got inside, started it up and drove off.

Rocco couldn't believe he just did that. He just lied to the police. To the sheriff, no less. But then again, the sheriff had just lied to him and Monica...about the reason why Will ran away. And he knew he had to notify Cameron, Leo and Will ASAP.

Monica and Rocco turned around, she opened the door, and they went back into the house, with Monica closing the door behind them.
