The gorgeous scarlet sun began its ascent over the distant horizon of Krypton. Inside a cutting-edge kitchen, Loana-El, with her vibrant red hair shimmering in the morning light, was brewing the Kryptonian version of coffee, known as galactic brew. She wasn't alone; her friends, hardworking mothers like her, had gathered for their cherished weekly meet-up, a rare chance to rejuvenate amidst the chaos of their busy lives.
The vibrant neon green brew sparkled alongside an inviting spread of pastries and freshly harvested fruits from the El family farm. The soothing aroma of the fruity beverage blended into the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Once the brew was ready, Loana carried the tray into the living room, where soft laughter and light conversation had already filled the air.
With a warm smile, Loana handed each friend a glass of the sweet-smelling drink and a crisp pastry. "Fresh from Kal's latest harvest," she teased with a playful wink. Her friends chuckled softly, thanking her as they eagerly took their treats, savoring the sweetness and the moment.
Loana sighed, relaxing into her chair before turning to Brainiac, the AI who assisted with household tasks. "Brainiac, could you play some nature sounds? Something calming," she requested, feeling the weight of the past week still heavy on her. The AI responded immediately, filling the air with the soothing sounds of wind and soft running water. For a moment, the women let the peace wash over them, their eyes closing as they basked in the rare opportunity to unwind.
Breaking the silence, Liora Miro chuckled softly, her almond-shaped green eyes sparkling in the light. "I hope I didn't track in too much mud, Loana. I know how much of a pain it can be to clean."
Loana smirked, tilting her head. "Liora, we live on a farm. Mud's part of the package," she said with a teasing glint in her eye. "Besides, your work as a botanist is essential to keeping Krypton's environment thriving. So, a little grime never hurt anyone."
"She's right," chimed in Nxyari Xeno-Dak, her copper eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "Between your work and mine with the Educational Board, we've got much to consider. Our children must know the significance of what nearly ensued—what we almost lost as infants."
"You make an excellent point, Nxyari," added Aloria Corill, her voice steady but serious. "If we don't learn from our mistakes—both as a society and environmentally—we could easily find ourselves at the edge again." Her gaze shifted, a flicker of emotion crossing her face as she tucked a lock of curly red hair behind her ear.
The room fell into a brief silence, the gravity of their discussion sinking in. It had only been thirty-four years since Krypton narrowly avoided all-out destruction. Though they were now in their mid-thirties, the memory of their near-extinction still lingered, a reminder of how fragile their world had once been.
Loana broke the stillness. "Aloria and Liora, you both make strong points. And Nxyari, your work in education is just as crucial. It's shaping the minds of our future, giving them the tools to build a better Krypton."
Nxyari nodded, a hint of a smile softening her features. "We all want a better Krypton. That's why we support Aldrea and Cosmia in this election. They stand for empowerment and inclusivity—something we desperately need if we want to evolve."
"And to stop Arbat and Darius," Aloria added sharply. "Their vision of a tyrannical Krypton where they'd imprison my child just for being genderfluid is horrifying."
"They also disregard the environment entirely," Liora said, brushing her hair from her face. "Their policies could put us right back on the path to disaster."
Nxyari's face tightened in outrage. "And they'd cut vital resources for our schools, forcing us to accept school shootings as "a fact of life.' I refuse to let our children grow up in fear."
Loana frowned, nodding in agreement. "I've been covering this election from the beginning, and it's frustrating to see how reckless some people are. By the way, Nxyari, your son Jaxson? He's been an incredible assistant—one of the best I've ever worked with."
Nxyari smiled with pride. "Yes, Jaxson takes after his father. My late husband was remarkable, and I'm fortunate my current husband is just as wonderful, especially with both my sons. Jaxson and his brother Dev."
"I'm glad you believe in blended families," Loana said thoughtfully. "Arbat's party has made too many harmful remarks about what constitutes a 'real family.'"
"As a therapist, I see the damage that kind of rhetoric causes," Aloria added, her voice firm. "Families are made by love, not old traditions or narrow-mindedness."
"I agree," Liora said, her voice soft but firm. "People need to adapt and accept that civilization has evolved."
Loana stood, her mood lifting as she stretched her arms. "Well, now that we've finished breakfast, how about a nice walk around Starlight Lake? I'm sure some fresh air will do us good."
The others agreed, their spirits lightening as they freshened up before heading out to enjoy the serene beauty of the silvery-blue lake, their hearts a little lighter, knowing they were all working to build a better future.
