TLPOV Chapter 6
BPOV
Elissandrah, who insisted I call her Lyssie, left me after making sure I was comfortable. She made her way out the door, lugging a huge suitcase with her. Outside she snapped the latches off and pulled out a beautiful, pearly white, cello. She looked pained as she set it down and set her bow on the string. She wistfully looked up at the moonlit sky and began to play.
It hit me like a cool breeze on a summer day, the certainty that things would get better. Her music was like a force of nature. Like it was her destiny to play. I swear that I saw even some of the Volturi swaying to the tempo of the cello, as enraptured as she was. She let the music envelop her, and I could see vampire mates dance along on their own balconies. She was a musician worthy of the gods. Soon, the rhythm, from the happy, wistful, melody, became bittersweet. It became sad, as if lamenting its past, waiting an infinity for happier days. Like it was giving up. I could see unbroken streams of tears moving down her face.
She continued playing as if nothing could stop her. Then a knock pierced the peaceful ambience of the room. I was, if not a little upset that her music had been interrupted. Yet, she played on. I unraveled myself from the cocoon of feather soft blankets and opened the door.
It was Edward and Alice. He quickly planted a kiss on my forehead and strode towards the door with Alice. He stood there with his eyes closed as if savoring the music, relishing each note as if it were a buoy. He took a tentative step towards her and the music ended after the staccato rhythm and the sweeping dramatic ending.
"That was Edward's song." she said quietly, without turning around, her eyes fixated on the crescent moon.
Alice went forward with a brave look on her face. "Lysa, is that you?"
Elissandrah put on a fake happy face and turned around and gave Alice a great big hug.
"Mhm, Ally, it's really me."
"I-I can't believe it. I thought they put you in solitary after helping me escape!"
"I know, I know."
"Eek, I'm just so happy you're alive!" squealed Alice,
Edward stood awkwardly in a corner surveying the situation.
Elissandrah turned to look at him. "My sunshine. Hast thou, my clarity, only returned to show me beauty, then blind me?"
I didn't understand a word she said, but it seemed the words resonated with Edward. He flinched, and replied,
"Starlight, hast thou given me points of reason, then darkened, to leave me lost?" he got out.
Elissandrah made no sound as she hugged him as if it was going to be the last time.
"My sunshine. My Edward. Did you think I left on purpose?" she choked.
Who was she? Was she like, I don't know, some ex-lover of his, or something?
"Get off me. You lost the right to touch me when you left that night." he spat.
Clearly, Elissandrah was taken aback. Pain shifted her eyes into a deep purple.
"I-I, it wasn't like that, I had Car-"
"No. I don't need you. You left me and you got what you deserve. Don't ever talk to me again."
She sighed, and said, "Leave, if you wish, sunshine, but someone's been waiting for you for about 40 years."
She ran to the spacious closet and picked up a bundled, squirming mass.
She turned around, holding the most gorgeous baby I had ever seen. Edward's eyes lit up the moment he saw her.
"Lore!" he yelled.
"I'm a big kid now, Edie, my name's Lorelai." she turned her big doe eyes onto me.
"Whose that?" she inquired.
Edward chuckled, "That's my girlfriend, Lorelai. Anyways, why are you with her?"
Lorelai pouted and stuck her lower lip out. "I'm with Lyssie-Myssie 'cause Aulani's too busy to take care of me. She sent me here, since Lyssie's my godmother, after all. But hold up. You said you'd marry me, Edie."
Elissandrah giggled and hushed Lorelai. "Come on, Lore", she said in a sing-song voice, "Edie's definitely not marrying you, love. He has his girlfriend. Let's go get some cookies instead."
"COOKIES!" she shrieked.
Elissandrah pulled out a batch of cookies from the oven. She broke off a piece, blew on it, and set it in Lorelai's mouth. She swallowed the whole thing down before grabbing for the plateful Elissandrah precariously teetered from the palm of her hand "Lorelai, you have a bottomless pit for a stomach," she muttered, "You just had lunch. 'Lani's gonna kill me if I send you home like a pig."
"You are welcome to stay.", she called out to us.
Alice hesitated before saying, "No thanks, Lyssa, we need to get Bella home."
Lorelai sighed dramatically before waving a bunch of plane tickets out of thin air. "I wish you'd stay. I haven't seen you since Denali, and that's been forever. Come visit please!" she begged.
Edward's eyes softened and he crouched down to look at Lorelai. He raised her chin high enough to look at her. "Maybe you should come visit sometime, Lore. We'd love to have you over." he whispered.
She turned to look at Elissandrah. "Oh please can we go, Lyssie? I haven't seen Esme in ages. Or Carlisle. Or Jasper. Or Rosalie. Or Emmett."
Lyssie looked downcast as she said, "I-I don't think they want me, Lore. Maybe you could go for a week and come back."
"Nonsense!" asserted Lorelai, " Edward most certainly wants you, Lyssie. Stop beating yourself up because you wanted to protect him. What do you think I do every night, sleep?"
"Actually, Lore, you're supposed to be sleeping."
"Pish-posh. Too much sugar to sleep at night. Anyways, that's not the point. I walk in his subconscious every now and then, and you are most certainly a big part of him. To be fair, he was pretty shattered. I would be the same if Lani left me. But now you can patch things together! Be friends again! I've walked through your conscience too, Lyssie, and not a day has gone by when you haven't thought of Edie. I don't need to walk through your conscience to tell you love him, Lyssie. Every time you play that sad, bittersweet song and look at the moon, I know you're thinking of Edward wherever he is, and you hope that he is happy, even if you aren't. Everytime you plop down on a couch and stare into nothing, your eyes turn a pale silvery color. When your ears twitch when you hear a knock at the door, hoping it's someone you love."
Both Edward and Elissandrah have the same scandalized expression on their face, the only difference being that Lyssie was blushing a furious scarlet red. I don't think they were too happy that a 3 year old had exposed all their secrets.
Lyssie had tears streaming down her face while fiddling with a ring. She grabbed Lorelai in her arms, and shook as she said, "God, I miss him too Lorelai. He didn't deserve this. The Volturi are going to pay what they did to him. I mean nothing without the both of them. I need them, Lorelai."
Lorelai, years of wisdom reflecting off of her cherub face, said, "Selwyn isn't coming back, Elissandrah. I know everything you did. The sacrifice. You are a hero. Most would never do it. But, he isn't coming back, darling. You don't have to lose both of them. Love Edward. He's the only thing you have left, other than me, of course."
" I don't mean to interrupt this emotional moment, but who are you talking about?" asked Edward dryly.
Lorelai whipped around with rage in her face I had never seen in a toddler like her. "This isn't my story to tell, Edward. But hurt my Lyssie again and I will not hesitate to smite you."
Suddenly, I had the courage to speak. "I-, Edward, you left me too." I squeaked out.
Edward turned to look at me. "Well, yes, but, I left to protect you, Bella, surely you see that."
Lorelai delicately arched a pencil thin eyebrow at him. "Isn't that what Lyssie did too?"
I began finding my voice. "I forgave you, Edward. Maybe it's time to forgive her."
He made an inhuman sound as he lost his temper. Mind you, Edward when he loses his temper is a frightening experience. Even Alice looked somewhat perturbed by his behavior. But he became physical. He began to smash the nearest objects, and the nearest option turned out to be…
Elissandrah's cello.
Without thinking, he raised high above his head and brought it down onto the cold, marble floor before anyone could do anything to stop him.
"No!" roared Lorelai. She jumped on him and began scratching, kicking and punching at Edward. He looked at me and saw the terror in my eyes. He then finally realized what he had done. He instantly calmed down and looked horrified by what he had done. His eyes widened and then he ran out of the room.
Elissandrah's eyes were closed when she sank to her knees. Lorelai placed her chubby hands onto her cheeks and begged. "Please, please, please, Lyssie don't cry, darling, it's ok. He'll come around. Carlisle will tell them." she murmured into her ear.
Her sobbing form shook one last time before talking again. " That cello, Bella and Alice, was crafted from Hope." she whispered, "I put my hopes and dreams and crafted a physical piece of my soul. Only one person could truly break it."
A/N: And y'all probably figured who that one person is! Anyway, let's make this clear, that cello is NOT a horcrux. I figured that that might be an assumption made but yeah. Lorelai is about 60 years old but she ages slower, like much slower. Aulani is her older sister who rules an island called Santa Dominica, off the coast of Turks and Caicos (not a real place). More on her and Selwyn later ;). Idk how y'all feel but Lorelai is literally my favorite character.
