Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Gasping and jolting up, Meg is finally awake, finding herself in a hospital where there's other people from the airfield show that survived.
The cries of the children as well as the survivors shows what Eggman, or Dr. Ivo Robotnik, has done.
Meg sees herself in a hospital gown after waking up, even bandages covering half her face and limbs, making her turn around in silence.
"Miss. Gordon, you're awake." The doctor arrives with Chuck Yeager as Chuck places his hand onto Meg's hand.
"Meg, how are you feeling?" Chuck asked calmly, worried about what happened.
"I'm… Fine." Meg slowly speaks out, overwhelmed by the events that happened earlier.
"I know what you're about to say. Dr. Robotnik is marked a traitor after revealing his dark secrets behind us. It's best that G.U.N. is keeping Molly under the hands of our members." Chuck reveals Eggman's status as Meg lowers her head.
"Sir, you mustn't overwhelm Miss. Gordon, she hadn't fully recovered." The doctor warned.
"It's okay, sir. I knew what happened." Meg confirms how she felt and then raises her head towards both men. "What about Nicky?"
"Nicky?" The doctor stops as he doesn't know a person named Nicky.
"Ah. That blue hedgehog. He's standing by the hospital entrance for some fresh air. Are you sure you want to see him?" Chuck asked.
"Yes. I want to see him." Meg grunts while pushing herself out of bed while trying to stand.
"Easy, Meg." Chuck holds Meg up as the doctor brings over a wheelchair for her to sit on.
Afterwards, Meg is moving the wheels as the doctor clears his throat.
"Be straight back to your room once you're done with this Nicky fellow."
"Yes, doctor." Meg nods and salutes to Chuck while pushing herself out of the ward.
"Mr. Yeager, is it true that the fairytale is real?" The doctor asked after witnessing Sonic outside.
"Hm. It's not that the fairytale is real, but a fairytale was born. Sonic is the answer to Dr. Eggman's chaos." Chuck answers the doctor's question with a smirk.
Outside at the entrance, Sonic is watching the sunset, calm about his possible future after Sonic opens his shell.
He appears without a jumper and glasses, making him who he truly is.
"Nicky? There you are." Meg called, relieved that Sonic is still there.
"Meg? Heh, you look terrible." Sonic chuckles while looking back.
"Yeah. So you finally became confident, huh."
"Not really." Sonic replied.
"Huh?" Meg is confused about Sonic not being confident despite smiling in his battle against Eggman's robot.
"If I did, then I would've been dead. Think about it, if it weren't for Sonic, I wouldn't be who I really am."
To Meg's surprise, she has finally found the real deal, the fairytale she unknowingly raised.
"Nicky… You're…"
"The sun's beautiful, isn't it." Said Sonic.
"Oh. Yeah." Meg stops herself and watches the sun with Sonic.
"Meg.It turns out that Eggman had taken away my friends and family, even my island, but that's not the reason why I'm fighting him. I just found myself a playmate. It was hate at first sight too." Sonic explains which led to Meg pitying Sonic after what Eggman had done.
When Sonic handed out a charred leather jacket, Meg was left speechless. The picture of Sonic is gone, burnt to ashes.
"It seems your father wanted you to move forward. He was a cool pilot." Sonic says while rubbing his nuzzle.
"Yeah. He is… Dad…" Meg sniffles while hugging her burnt jacket, giving Sonic the impression that the jacket she usually wears belonged to her father.
Sonic is silent while rubbing Meg's tears.
"Meg, don't cry, smile." Said Sonic.
In Meg's case, her father's spirit has transferred to Nicky as if they became one being named Sonic.
As Meg hugs Sonic while she uncontrollably sobs, Sonic halts and pat Meg's back as he's embarrassed to hug someone back.
Sonic and Meg then look at each other as Meg hiccups, leading Sonic to hold out a camera that shows an accidental picture of Nicky and the scenery.
"It's okay to call me Nicky. I'm still Sonic though." Sonic points out as Meg nods and holds out the camera.
"Nicky, stand close to me." Meg waves her hand as Sonic stands next to her by watching the sun with her.
"Like this?"
Click. A flash has Sonic feeling dizzy as he shakes his head.
What Sonic sees is a selfie with her and Sonic together, even though she's still in her bandages.
"Our one last photo for the two of us. What'll you do now?"
Sonic looks afar while serious until he catches a glimpse on a certain island.
"Are you okay with me going?"
"Of course. You're a blue hedgehog with attitude, the fastest in land, strong sense of justice and irrelevant to authority, impatient and not so detailed-oriented, desires anything fast, loyal but likes to be alone, street smart but warm at heart, loves beauty, nature, cool music and adventure, not a hero, but with a lot of self confidence and courage and most of all, you're the fastest thing alive." Meg lists out who Sonic really is.
But this amuses Sonic as he laughs.
"Huh? What's so funny."
"You described a cooler fairytale character. I'm nothing like that." Sonic reveals his truth with a grin, making Meg question her judgement towards Mary Garnet's story. "You know, I wanted to see the world and travel with some pretty cool adventures. You'll see the cooler version of me."
Meg lifts her head up, realising how honest Sonic is about himself.
In truth, Sonic's just a hedgehog that wants to see the world along with his potentially amazing adventures.
Finally, Sonic let's Meg touch his face as both their foreheads are on each other.
"Thank you for raising me. It was short, but fun." Sonic giggles, showing a little bit of who Nicky was.
"I hope we meet someday, Nicky. I'd love to see your friends, even your adventures and how you do."
"Heh. Say no more. See ya… Mom."
Meg gasps as Sonic rushes with a smile, leading Meg to look at her bandage covered hand, realising that she's being a mother to a hedgehog she raised.
She then looks at the camera that shows a photo she took earlier.
"Dad, is it the right thing to let him go especially when he's Sonic the Hedgehog?" Meg asks while seeing the sun slowly disappearing.
In the end, Meg has done what she can to make a hedgehog actually smile, especially when he enjoyed staying with her at Station Square.
20XX July 3rd
Running through Station Square, Sonic is heading towards the train station while waiting to travel to a different city to ride a boat and head towards the island he sees.
In a different city, he's taking a cruise while enjoying the ride with the seagulls flying next to a speeding boat, now his queue is to leap onto the beach without hitting the water as he jumps and lands onto the sand.
He's finally here.
South Island, Green Hill
The animals are panicking, only for Sonic to see a Motor Bug that is a robot ladybug with a wheel and 2 Crabmeats that are 2 crab robots.
Their eyes are noticeably different to an actual animal as they have a cartoony appearance much to Sonic's amusement.
Looks like Eggman's starting his game, Sonic thought about destroying the robots and beat Eggman by cracking his eggshell open.
The robots' eyes are furrowing as they're targeting Sonic as the animals scatter for safety.
Sonic is ready for some action.
It turns out that being Sonic isn't a cure nor a gift, but who Nicky truly was.
Sonic the Hedgehog is born.
