Pretty Maelstrom
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or Disney's Lilo & Stitch
Before you read (mostly for Americans): During this chapter there is a point where Lilo hides inside a cupboard with a pizza box covering the front. The original "American" release of Lilo & Stitch had Lilo hiding in a washing machine, but was later changed. This was done to prevent children from thinking about climbing inside washing machines, which is dangerous. I chose to base this chapter on the international release because that is the version that most people will see now days (it is the version on Disney+).
-Chapter Start-
"In case you were wondering, this did not go well," the social worker, Cobra Bubbles, said. His dark eyes glaring at Nani, as his hulking frame filled the doorway. With only the collar and cuffs of his white shirt standing out against his black suit and dark skin.
With a single pull of his muscular arm, the front door to the house was pulled free from the nails that previously held it shut. A leftover from earlier that day when Lilo wanted to be left alone, and had barricaded the house.
"You have three days to change my mind or I will have to take action, and remove Lilo from your care," the social worker stated, leaving no room for argument. With a flick of his hand his sunglasses were on his face, and he squeezed his broad shoulders through the now open doorway.
After the door was slammed closed, Nani barely waited to hear agent Bubbles' walk to the squeaky top step of the porch, before she turned to glare at her sister. Lilo screamed in terror, and ran deeper into the house.
Darting through the messy kitchen, that had assuredly dissatisfied the social worker. With half eaten meals and dirty plates littering the counter tops. While the only decent food was from take-out restaurants.
With a powerful push of her toned legs, Nani leaped at her sister. Grabbing the young girl as she scampered across the tiled floor. Sadly, the older sister's hold wouldn't last as Lilo gave a shudder-inducing lick to her captor's arm.
While the nineteen year old was busy wiping drool off her arm, the younger girl took the opportunity to hide herself in the house. Leaving Nani alone to try and think of places Lilo might conceal herself.
The house was such a mess that she could be anywhere. But the most likely place would be in the back room. Where an empty pizza box had been moved to block the opening of a cupboard.
Grabbing a nearby blanket and spreading it on the floor, Nani prepared to catch her sister. Stomping towards the door, she pulled it open before cautiously climbing on top of a nearby table. Once in position, she kicked the door, loudly slamming it shut. A moment later, the pizza box moved.
Lilo looked around the room before she started climbing out of her hiding place. Taking careful steps onto the blanket that rested before her hiding place, the little girl planned her next move. While behind her, her sister stealthily moved into position, and prepared to spring her trap. The younger sister only noticed moments before the blanket was wrapped around her, and she was left struggling inside her fabric prison.
Nani, meanwhile, was intent on bringing her sister to her bedroom. Where she could close the door, and the two of them could discuss everything that had gone wrong that day. However she stopped in the living room when she felt her sister's squirming lessened. Showing that the little girl had tired herself out.
As the makeshift bag was unceremoniously dropped onto the floor, a lethargic Lilo stood. Weakly trying to get away, and hissing at her captor. While Nani quickly held her in place by grabbing her wrist.
"Why didn't you wait at the school?" Nani yelled, banging her fist against the floor. "You were supposed to wait there."
Lilo stopped struggling. Partially opening her watery eyes, but refusing to look at her sister.
"Do you want to be taken away?" Nani continued. "Do you understand what can happen if these visits don't go well?"
The younger sister stayed quiet. Trying to ignore the heavy words, despite being pressured to answer. Until she did reply.
"No!"
"No, what?" Nani questioned exasperated. "You don't understand?"
"No!" Lilo yelled a final time before she fell forward, her face landing in the blanket that had been used to capture her.
All was quiet for a minute as the two sisters waited. Letting the tension from the day leave them.
"What are we going to do Lilo?" Nani asked, raising her hands to her face. She didn't expect an answer, but felt the need to talk.
"Why don't you just sell me, and buy a pet rabbit or something," the young girl answered. Standing from the floor, and walking towards the stairs to the second level.
"At least the rabbit would be quieter than you," the elder sister screamed back. Feeling her frustration returning.
"Go ahead, cause it will be smarter than me too."
"And less of a pain."
"You'll like it cause you both stink," Lilo yelled as she reached the last step, and entered her bedroom.
"Go to your room," Nani yelled, her anger reaching its peak.
"I'm already in my room," was heard before a door slammed shut.
Muffled yells could be heard as each of the sisters grabbed a pillow and screamed into it. Both desperately wanting things to be simpler. But sadly things couldn't be.
As much as Nani wanted to run up the stairs and try to patch things up with her sister, she couldn't. While she wouldn't be meeting with Naruto today, she still needed to go to her "real" job. The one that had proof of employment, that the social worker wanted to see.
For the rest of the day, and into the night, Nani worked at her restaurant job. Bringing drinks and food to the visiting tourists. Playing up her natural beauty for extra tips. And while her smile was fake, her desire to work had never been more real.
She had gotten this job to prove she could take care of her sister. With everything the past year had thrown at her, it was her desire to stay with her sister that kept her moving forward. And it was why, as soon as she clocked out, she ran back to the house, pizza in hand. Ready to try and make peace with her sister.
"Hey," Nani started, pushing open Lilo's door. Cautiously expecting some kind of retaliation for entering. Thankfully the little girl was quietly sitting on her bed, already changed into her nightgown. "I brought some pizza in case you were hungry."
Lilo was quiet at first sitting on her bed, playing with her doll, Scrump. Suddenly, she spoke, "We're a broken family, aren't we?"
Nani stood still for a few seconds, shocked by the question. "No," she eventually stutters out, putting the pizza on the bedside table.
"We might be a little broken, or a lot," the elder sister admitted under her breath. "But we're still family, and I'm sorry I yelled at you."
"We're sisters, it's our job," the younger sister replied. "I like you more as a sister than a mom."
"Yeah?" Nani responded. Feeling happy to hear that.
Sadly, that happy feeling didn't last, as Lilo began to cry. "And you like me more than a rabbit?"
"Shh," the elder sibling said, trying to calm down her sister. Climbing onto the bed, and scooping her, into her arms. "Of course I like you more than a rabbit."
The soothing sounds being made, helped to console the young girl. Easing her out of her emotional state, until she had stopped crying. Merely resting in her sister's arms, in an enjoyable embrace.
"Thanks," Lilo whispered.
With a soft head rub, Nani continued to comfort her sister. "I know it's been hard on you, but we need to work together as a family, if we want to stay as one. So, I'll make you a deal. If you promise to do what I say, I'll promise not to yell at you any more. Except on special occasions."
"Tuesdays and bank holidays would be nice," the little girl said with a mischievous smile.
"Yeah? Would that be nice?" the elder sibling asked mischievously. Leaning forward to tickle her ward. Causing a joyous laughter to fill the room.
Soon the sisters had to stop and catch their breaths. Large smiles shared between them. Only to be interrupted when the sky turned green.
"A falling star," Lilo yelled, scampering to the nearest window. Happily watching as an ominous green light sailed across the sky. "I call it."
With no other warning, the younger girl began pushing against her sister. Urging her to leave the room, so Lilo could make her wish in private. Which soon saw Nani having a door slammed behind her.
However the older sibling wasn't going to let this golden opportunity go to waste. Especially if it might help her understand her younger sister a little more.
"It's me again," Nani heard as she quietly cracked the door open. "I need you to send someone to be my friend. Someone who won't run away. Maybe an angel, like the one you sent Nani."
While Lilo knelt beside her bed, wishing on a star. Her eavesdropping sister sat outside the room wondering what she could do to help her sister.
Meanwhile, unknown to all, a rogue experiment was now loose on a planet that was unprepared for him, as much as he was unprepared for it.
-Chapter End-
I'm going to claim that this chapter is cursed, it should have been done months ago. Even though I was expecting this chapter to be difficult with the heavy topic, this chapter should not have taken this long to write. But, given that this is probably the most important scene in the movie, I didn't feel like I could skip it. Especially since I won't be doing the scene of Stitch escaping prison. There was going to be more to this chapter, with Stitch waking up in the dog pound. But I am ready to move to the next chapter, so that will be the start of the next chapter.
I was going to have a section here, where I explained what would happen to Lilo if she got taken away. But, I found a better place for it later in the story. The simple version is that America does not have any orphanages, instead using the foster system. Where children go to live with another family. Meaning that Lilo could be sent anywhere in the United States, away from Nani. I'll go farther into this later.
-Cut Content-
When Lilo pushes Nani out of her room, Nani, playfully, falls down on her. This scene never made much sense to me, considering that we're about to see Lilo wish for a friend. So Nani taking time to prank Lilo seems out of character (we never see Nani pull another prank in the movie.)
I left the scene out to make it flow better, and I like how it came out. But I do miss Lilo complaining about how big Nani's butt is. I was going to add this line from Lilo: "Your butt's so big it's crushing me. No wonder Naruto can't stop staring at it."
That's it for this chapter, I don't know when the next chapter will be, but it's nice to know that I'm past this important scene from the movie. Hopefully things will go smoothly from here.
