We Have Enough Youth. How About a Fountain of Smart?
"It's so good to see you again! You look wonderful!"
Female elephants are pregnant for two years. Female humans only feel like it's two years.
"Amazing. Just amazing. Look at you!"
It was mildly amusing to have the name "Mallard" since it felt like I was waddling for the last five months of my pregnancy. I should have known the baby would be a showoff, since she carried up front and out there for all to see.
"I haven't since you since forever. I could look at you all day."
Bringing Alexandra in to work was a snap. I put a port-a-bed in the office and had a couple of carriers, but they really weren't needed. For the first months, she got passed from "auntie" to "uncle" and was cooed over by all the longtime customers, the only proviso being "stay back if you have cooties."
"Seriously, I haven't seen anything look so beautiful."
Valerie stuck her head around the doorjamb into my office. "Who in the world are you talking to?"
I raised my sandal-clad appendages, showing off my glittering gold pedicure. "My feet!" I blew them a kiss. "Oh, you gorgeous little critters, I never thought I'd see you again!"
