In the Honfleur house, there was a family who had moved in from France a few years ago. In the family is a girl whose grandmother was close friends with Charlie Brown's grandfather Silas Brown. She'd kept possession of Silas' satchel until Charlie Brown came to France, even forgetting her uncle, the Baron, was her caretaker and despised strangers. We know this girl to be Violette.

Sometime later, Violette's parents brought her home, and eventually decided to move to America and meet up with Charlie Brown and Linus again. Pierre quickly followed suit.

One day, Esmerelda, Violette's mother, got a phone call.

"Bonjour." said Esmerelda. "Oui? Le Baron? Bon chagrin!"

Esmerelda called for her husband.

"Claude!" she called.

"Quoi, Esmerelda?" asked Claude.

"A got some news about ton frère!" said Esmerelda.

"Quoi is it?" asked Claude.

"We'll need to tell Violette about him. Wait until she comes home." suggested Esmerelda.

Soon, Violette had arrived home from her long day at school.

"Violette!" cried Esmerelda.

"Bonjour, Mère." said Violette. "Bonjour, Père."

"Violette." said Claude. "Ton mère has some news about ton uncle."

"You mean the Baron?" asked Violette.

Violette's parents explained all their details until…..

"Ooh la la!" cried Violette.

The next day at school, Mary Stewart was in her homeroom, feeling a lot of joy.

"I can't believe I'm going to be a big sister soon!" Mary Stewart said happily.

"Happy for you, Mary." said Lindsey.

"How I wish I had a sibling of my own." sighed Lila.

"How I've longed for a sibling." said Mary Stewart.

While Mary Stewart took her desk, Violette walked in.

"Bonjour, Mes Amis!" said Violette.

"Hello, Violette." said Lila.

"Bonjour, Violette." said Pierre.

Violette showed a sad look on her face.

"Violette? Why the long face?" asked Lila.

"Toi see." said Violette. "It has to do with ma uncle."

"What was your uncle like?" asked Mary Stewart.

"A told zis to Charles and Linus when they came to France." Violette began.

"You mean Charlie Brown and Linus went to France?" asked Mary Stewart.

"Oui." said Violette.

And Violette explained her story.

"Wow! I'm glad Heather fell for Charlie Brown then." smiled Mary Stewart.

"Anyway, about ma uncle….." Violette sighed.

And Violette gossiped all about the news her parents gave her.

"Good grief!" cried Mary Stewart.

"A know." sighed Violette.

Soon, Violette was on her way to drama class. Before Mr. Legstrong could arrive and call the roll, Violette was speaking to Lucy, Violet, Patty Swanson and Frieda all about it.

"A heard something shocking about ma uncle the Baron." Violet said.

"What happened to this Baron?" asked Patty Swanson.

Violet explained it all. When she'd finished….

"Good grief!" cried Violet. "How shocking!"
"A know." said Violette. "A know."

"Sounds like very bad news." said Frieda. "Who would've known all about what that Baron was like?!"

At lunch time, Violette spoke to Mary Jo about her uncle.

"Oh my!" said Mary Jo. "Sounds like your uncle is bad news."
"Oui." said Violette. "But Quoi am I going to do about it?"

Charlie Brown looked towards Violette and Mary Jo, puzzled by what Violette was gossiping about.

"Good grief. She's been talking about her uncle all day." Said Charlie Brown. "But why?"

Charlie Brown walked to his table where Heather Wold and Mary Stewart were sitting.

"Hi, Charlie Brown." said Heather.

"Hey, Charlie Brown." said Mary Stewart.

"Hi, Girls." said Charlie Brown.

"What's on your mind?" asked Heather.

"Violette's been gossiping all day." said Charlie Brown.

"Well, she did tell me something shocking about him." said Mary Stewart.
"I wonder what it is?" pondered Charlie Brown.

"Nothing to worry about now." said Mary Stewart. "We'll just leave her to it."

When it was time to go home, Violette was making her way to Charlie Brown's place where Snoopy was visiting his old doghouse.

"Bonjour, Snoopy." said Violette. "And how's your éspouse?"

Snoopy nodded, showing he's going well with Fifi.

"Nice to hear." said Violette. "Anyway, Je got news about ma uncle."

"Huh?" quizzed Snoopy.

"I'll whisper it to toi."
Violette got on her right knee and whispered it to him. Snoopy was most shocked.

"A know." said Violette. "A know!"
And Violette was making her way home.

"Hey, Violette!" said Peppermint Patty. "How's it going?"
"Not bien." said Violette.

"Chuck told me all about what you were gossiping about." said Peppermint Patty. "What's this about your uncle?"
"Je'll tell you later, Patricia." said Violette. "A need to go home."
"Okay, Violette. See you tomorrow!"

Violette got home, and there were her parents in the living room.

"Bonjour, ma parents." said Violette.

"Ma Violette." said Esmerelda. "We got ze tickets."
"Bien, bien." Violette said.

"Oh la la! But…. why only quatre?"
"Ze quatriéme is for an amie you'd like to bring along with us." said Esmerelda.

"Toi mean Je can bring a friend with me?" asked Violette.

"Oui, ma Violette." said Esmerelda.

"Merci, Mére." said Violette.

Violette hugged her mother, and she went upstairs to pack some bags.

"Now, which amie may Je bring with moi?" pondered Violette.

The next day, Violette was pondering which friend to bring with her.

"Which amie may Je bring with me?"

Violette was looking around for a friend when Heather walked on over.

"Oh. Bonjour, ma Heather." said Violette.

"Hello, Violette." said Heather.

"Any news?" asked Violette.

"None except Mary becoming a sister soon." said Heather.

"Moi on ze other hand." said Violette. Not so bien."

"I've heard you gossiping all day yesterday." said Heather. "And all about your uncle."
"Toi see, Heather." said Violette.

Violette spoke to Heather all about her uncle, and…..

"Good grief!" cried Heather. "Sounds shocking!"
"A know." said Violette. "And on ze bright side, Je'm going back to France, and I'm looking for someone to come with moi."
"France sounds like a beautiful country." said Heather. "I might think about it."
"D'accord, ma Heather." said Violette. "While you think, Je'll find someone else to come to France with moi."

Violette came across Janice.

"Hello, Violette." said Janice.

"Bonjour, Janice." said Violette.
"I've heard from Linus you've been gossiping lately." said Janice. "What is it to do with?"
"It has to do with ma uncle." said Violette.

"The so-called Baron?" said Janice.

"Oui. And ma parents booked us a flight to France." said Violette.

"But…. why are you going back to France?" asked Janice.

Violette explained all about her reasons, shocking Janice in the process.

"Good grief!" cried Janice.

"A know." said Violette. "Well, Toi think about whether or not you want to come to France again."
"Okay, Violette." said Janice.

Violette left Janice, came across Pierre, who was sitting on a bench.

"A here you're going back to France." said Pierre.

"Oui, ma Pierre." said Violette.

"Been gossiping about your uncle, the Baron again, Je see." said Pierre.

"Oui. And Je have an extra ticket for a friend to come with moi back to France." said Violette.

"Sounds like a nice idea." said Pierre. "A might consult with ma folks."
"You can do that." said Violette.

Violette left Pierre and went to find another friend to offer a trip to France to.

"Oh la la. So many friends, so many choices." said Violette. "If Je don't find someone to come to France with moi, I'll never get to return home."

She soon came across Emerald.

"Emerald." said Violette.

"Violette." said Emerald.

"Emerald, how would you like to come to France with moi?" asked Violette.

"Me? Go to France with you?" Emerald laughed.

"Je'm serious." said Violette.

"Why are you going to France anyway?" asked Emerald.

Violette explained all about why she was going to France, and all about her uncle.

"Wow!" cried Emerald.

"He hated strangers, up until Je accidentally set fire to ze chateau." Violette explained.

"You? You set fire? Well if you set fires, you're despicable!" Emerald teased.

"Je'm insulted!" huffed Violette.

Violette left Emerald, rather offended.

"Was that necessary, Emerald?" asked Scarlet.

"She starts fires!" said Emerald. "So she's despicable!"
"But you started a fire." said Scarlet.

"Only because I was in a rush." said Emerald. "I wanted my pumpkin pie urgently."

"She'd been gossiping a lot about her uncle." said Scarlet.

"Her uncle must be despicable!" said Emerald.

"Emerald, you've been calling everyone despicable lately." said Scarlet.
"Yeah, like me after our brawl at the mall!" Lucy sneered as she walked by.

"You see?" said Scarlet.

"Donald Duck calls everyone 'despicable'!" Emerald said, trying to make an excuse for her words.

"That's Daffy Duck, you blockhead!" Lucy called back.

"Daffy?" quizzed Emerald. "Oh."

Charlie Brown saw Violette Honfleur leaving Emerald.

"Hey, Violette." said Charlie Brown.

"Bonjour, Charles." said Violette.

"What was this about your uncle?" asked Charlie Brown.

"You really want to know, Charles?" asked Violette.

"Oui." said Charlie Brown.

"Okay." said Violette. "Mah uncle is very ill, very ill indeed. He has cancer."
"Good grief!" cried Charlie Brown. "Cancer?!"
"Oui." said Charles. "I'm so sorry."
"Don't worry about it, Charles." said Violette. "I hope he gets better.

"Non." said Violette. "As it turns out, this sort of cancer is….. terminal. Zis is why me and ma folks are going back to France, to see him before he dies."
"Yikes!" cried Charlie Brown.

"Well, you think about it, Charles." said Violette.

Violette left Charlie Brown in order to go to class.

Charlie Brown was most shocked. The Baron, who hated strangers, was terminally ill.

"Good grief." said Charlie Brown.

Charlie Brown was on his way home later that day.

"The Baron has cancer." he said.

Heather walked by.

"Hey, Charlie Brown." said Heather.

"Cancer." said Charlie Brown.

"So Violette told you?" asked Heather.

"She did." said Charlie Brown. "Hard to believe someone who planned to kill me and Linus when we were at France is going to die soo."
"Sounds shocking." said Heather. "I have a neat idea. We'll let Violette make her final decision on who to bring to France."
"Okay." said Charlie Brown.

When Violette got home, her parents asked her all about her day.

"Did you asked any friends again?" asked Esmerelda.

"Oui." said Violette. "But one said Je was despicable."
"It wouldn't be Emerald, would it?" asked Claude.

"Oui." sighed Violette. "She said Je was despicable, all because Je almost burned ze chateau down, even though she almost burned ze school's kitchen down.

"Sounds hypocritical." said Claude. "So have you decided on who to bring to France?"
"Not yet." said Violette. "Je'll make ma final decision tomorrow."
Violette went up to her room and walked about, wondering who to bring to France with her.

"Who to bring….. who to bring…." said Violette.

Violette remembered, and…

"Oui! Je've got it!"

The next day, Violette gathered everyone around.

"Mes amis! Je've made ma decision!" Violette announced. "Je've finally decided who to bring along to France!"
"You're not going back forever, are you?" asked Franklin.

"Non, mon Franklin." said Violette. "Je'm returning after ma uncle dies."
"That's a relief." said Lucy. "She'll return at least."
"The one Je'll be bringing with moi to France is…"
"I'll be ready to go." said Marcie.

"Janice Emmons." Violette decided.

"Me?" said Janice.

"But…. I wanted to go to France!" said Lucy.

"I wanted to meet up with my old friends again." said Pierre.

"Je'm sorry, guys." said Violette. "A only chose Janice because she told me she had cancer once."
"Violette. When are we going to France?" asked Janice.

"Tomorrow." said Violette.

"Tomorrow?" said Janice. "I have to pack when I get home!"

When Janice got home, she got out a suitcase and packed some goods.

"What are you doing, Janice?" asked Britney.

"I'm going with Violette to France." said Janice. "Her uncle has cancer and will die soon."
"Good grief." said Britney.
"I know." said Janice. "Violette chose me because I had cancer myself."
"Well, good luck in France, Sis." said Britney.

Elizabeth came to Janice's room.

"Hey, Mom." said Janice.

"So Violette chose you?" said Elizabeth.

"She did." said Janice. "Because I suffered cancer myself."
"Okay." said Elizabeth. "Well, have fun in France."
And Elizabeth hugged Janice.

The next day, Violette's parents' car pulled up at the Emmons place, ready to pick Janice up.

"They're here!" said Janice. "Well, goodbye, Mom! Bye, Dad! Bye, Lindsey! Bye, Britney!"
"See you, Sister!" said Elizabeth.

"Bye, Janice." said Britney and Lindsey.

"Have fun!" said Peter.

And the car drove off for the airport.

"Je'm so glad you agreed to come with moi." said Violette.

"So am I." said Janice. "While I'm not looking forward to meeting your uncle, I'm sorry to here he'll be going soon."
"A understand, Janice." said Violette.

Soon, the car arrived at the airport.

"We're here, Belles." said Esmerelda.

"Let's bring our suitcases in." said Claude.

Much to the girls' surprise, already there, were Charlie Brown, Adrienne, Katie, Rerun, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Spearmint Sammy, Erin, Marty, Marcie, Peppermint Patty, Tommy, Frieda, Pierre, Heather, Violet, Pig-Pen, Shermy, Patty Swanson, Harold Angel, and Franklin.

"Wh…. what are you doing here?" asked Janice.

"We've come to see you off." said Linus.

"And we wish you good luck in France." said Charlie Brown.

"Thanks, you guys." said Janice.

"Merci, mes amis." said Violette.

"Flight 530 to France is now boarding!" called the P.A.

"Well, we've best get going." said Violette.

Janice walked up to Linus.

"I'll miss you, Sweet Babboo." said Janice.

"I'll miss you too, Janice." said Linus.

And both Linus and Janice hugged. After breaking their hug, Janice left to join Violette.

"Au revoir, mes amis!" Violette called.

"Bon Voyage, Janice and Violette!" everyone shouted.

"And don't come back!" shouted Sally.

Everyone glared at Sally. Even Harold Angel.

Janice and Violette boarded their plane, and sat next to each other.

"I can't wait to visit France again!" said Janice.

"Can't wait to see how much has changed in ma home country since moving to America." said Violette.

Because Violette was in the window seat, she got a good view of the entirety of America.

"Wow! AmericJe's an enormous country!" said Violette. "So many states, so many lakes…."
"They do say America is home of the brave." said Janice.

"So it is." said Violette. "Anyway, France, I'm back!"

Hours, hours later, the plane arrived in Paris.

"Violette, we're home!" said Claude.

"Ooh la la! France hasn't changed a bit." said Violette.

After stepping off, Janice and the Honfleur family caught a cab.

"So where is your uncle now?" asked Janice. "He's not at the chateau, is he?"
"Non." said Violette. "But he says we can stay there until we have his funeral."
"Okay." said Janice.

"Anyway, ma uncle is in hospital." said Violette. "He's taking chemo."
"Ooh la la." said Janice.
"But first stop is ze chateau." said Violette.

Some minutes later, Janice and Violette arrived at the chateau.

"Wow! What an extravagant place." said Janice.

"It sure is." said Violette. "When Charles and Linus stayed here, they slept outside, and Je had to give zem some hospitality."
"That was nice of you." said Janice.

They all went inside, and were most surprised to see….

"Amazing!" said Janice.

"Still as pretty as ever." said Violette.

"So you tell me your grandma and Charlie Brown's grandfather were close friends." said Janice.

"Oui they were." said Violette. "However, they stopped sending letters to each other, and Silas married a woman, eventually spawning Charles Brown's father."
"So that's how you know Charlie Brown." Janice said.

Janice and Violette went to a room where they would be staying during their stay in France.

"Such an impressive bedroom." said Janice.

"Used to be ma room while the Baron had me here." said Violette. "Until ma parents picked me up and brought me to zeir home."
Claude went into the room and saw the girls gossiping.

"Janice, mon Violette!" said Claude. "We're going to ze hospital!"
"Coming, Père!" called Violette.

They soon arrived at the hospital and talked to the receptionist.

"Jean Honfleur." said Claude.

"Oui." said the receptionist.

Janice, Violette, Claude and Esmerelda arrived at Room 540.

"Such a big hospital." said Janice.

"A know." said Violette. "Many ill people here."
They entered the hospital room, and there was Violette's uncle Jean, the Baron. He had a towel wrapped around his head, showing he'd lost his hair from the chemo.

"Uncle Jean!" said Violette.

"Bonjour, ma Violette." said Jean the Baron. "And who's your amie?"
"Uncle Jean. Zis is Janice Emmons."
"Bonjour, Janice."
"Bonjour to you too, Jean." said Janice.

Janice told the Baron how she had cancer herself, but survived.

"You're lucky, Janice." said Jean. "Too bad Je won't be able to survive."
"I'm so sorry." said Janice.

"Je'm ze one who should be sorry." said Jean. "Je'm sorry Je planned to kill any trespasser."
"A hope toi mean it, Uncle Jean." said Violette.

"A do." said Jean.

A day later, Janice and Violette were gossiping when Claude brought Jean home.

"Pére! Uncle Jean!" cried Violette.

"Bonjour, Violette." said Jean.

"Je'm bringing your uncle home." said Claude. "He wants to die someplace familiar."
"Wise thinking, Père." said Violette. "Zen Je can speak to him while he's here."
Jean the Baron was placed in his bed, and looked around.

"Zis is comfortable." said Jean.

Violette walked in.

"So, which school do you attend, ma Violette?" asked Jean.

"A attend Sparkyville Middle School." said Violette. "It's a nice school."
"A see you're enjoying your time in America." said Jean.

"Oui. Charles, Linus, Patricia and Marcella are old friends, so zey know moi." Violette gossiped.

And Violette and her uncle gossiped all day long.

The next day, Violette went into her uncle's room. There he was, still asleep.

"Uncle Jean?" said Violette. "Come on! Toi need to get up!"
Violette tried to wake her uncle up, but to no avail.

"Uncle Jean? Uncle Jean?"
A sad look covered Violette's face.

"Bon chagrin…"
Violette went downstairs where her parents and Janice were having breakfast.

"Morning, Violette." said Janice.

"Bonjour, ma Janice." said Violette.

"Why the long face, Violette?" asked Janice.

"Uncle Jean won't wake up." said Violette.

"Jean won't wake up?" said Claude. "Je'll be up zeir."
Claude walked upstairs, and a minute later, he came back down.

"Violette….." said Claude. "Your uncle….."
Violette heard her father say some words in French, and she was most shocked.

Later, over in Sparkyville, Charlie Brown was preparing himself to go out for the day. The telephone rang and Sally answered it.

"Hello?" Sally said.

Sally handed the phone to Charlie Brown.

"Your girlfriend's on the phone!" Sally said in a sing-song sort of voice.

Charlie Brown walked over to the phone, puzzled.

"But Heather is across the street from me."
Charlie Brown grabbed the phone and held it to his head.

"Hello?" said Charlie Brown.

"Charles!" said Violette. "Ma uncle…"
"What about your uncle?" asked Charlie Brown.

"He….. wouldn't wake up." Violette answered, voice hoarse from crying.

"You mean…..?"
"Oui." said Violette. "Well, au revoir, Charles."
Both Violette and Charlie Brown hung up on each other, and Charlie Brown looked towards Sally.

"Sally. Tell Mom and Dad to book us a flight to France, and I'll tell my friends. Janice isn't the only one who's going to France."

Some days later, at a church somewhere in Paris, a good number of guests were attending. There were Violette, Janice, Heather, Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Lucy, Violet, Sebastian, Mary Stewart, Eudora, Harold Angel, Sally, Rerun, Tommy, Katie, Frieda, Patty Swanson, Pig-Pen and Franklin. Snoopy walked in with Woodstock, only for the pastor to kick them out.

As it turned out, Jean Honfleur, Violette's uncle, had passed away a couple of nights after Janice and Violette arrived in France, and everyone was attending his funeral. After the pastor said some words, Violette stood up.

"As many of toi may or may not know, Je didn't always have ze best relationship. He was usually mean and ruthless, willing to do bad things to foreigners."
Everyone gasped.

"However, when Charles Brown and his friends came over, Je accidentally set ma chateau on feu, and Charles helped call ze feu brigade to come put it out."
"Wow!" said Heather.

"And after zat, ma uncle and Je have been stronger zan ever. He even allowed ma parents to pick moi up. Uncle Jean, if you're hearing moi, Je just want to say, Je'm glad we made up, and Je'm glad I got ma final chance to meet toi before you passed on. Je vous aime. Merci beaucoup."

Violette stepped down, and everyone shed a tear.

"Your uncle would be proud of you." said Janice.

After saying some words, the pastor announced it was time to bury Jean, and the hearse was loaded up with Jean's casket. Everyone went over to where Jean would be buried.

"Uncle Jean, we'll be burying toi somewhere familiar." said Violette.

The familiar place happened to be outside the chateau.

"Uncle Jean. Je'll miss you. If Je ever come visit France again, Je'll come over and Je'll meet you. Once again, Je vous aime."

And as the casket was lowered, Violette shed a tear. Pierre comforted her.

"Ma Pierre." said Violette. "Merci."
"I'm glad you made peace with your uncle." said Charlie Brown.

Violette hugged Charlie Brown, causing him to blush.

"Merci, Charles." said Violette.

"O….kay. I guess we'll be staying in your uncle's old chateau until we return to America.

"Bon idea." said Violette.

And that was what everyone did. They stayed in individual rooms in the chateau. They all had a comfortable rest, knowing nobody would be terrorising the place anymore.

Some days later, when it was time for everyone to go back to America, Claude put a "For Sale" sign on the chateau, and everyone treated themselves to some of the Baron's belongings. Charlie Brown picked out a photo of his grandfather, Silas Brown.

"Grandpa. You're coming." said Charlie Brown.

"Zat was a wonderful stay." said Pierre. "Je could get used to a home like zat."
