After seeing Gabi's Instagram posts with Adam in Hawaii, Josh realized that he was over his commitment issues and was finally ready to move forward in his relationship with Gabi. He went to Hawaii to tell her. They tried to be together but as usual life got in their way. Josh found out that Adam had kissed Gabi and that he may have feelings for her.
Gabi pleaded with Josh not to leave and told that it hadnt meant anything and she wanted to be with him, before getting frustrated and telling him he was the one who just showed up and said he was ready to be with her, after everything they had been through recently.
"I thought that was what you wanted! All this time you've been after me to fix my issues so we could finally be together, and I did but I'm not sure this is ever what you really wanted" he said, frustratingly.
"Maybe I just needed like a minute to process all this before we were right back in it. We've been on such an emotional roller coaster literally the whole time we've known each other, I liked you, you loved someone else, you started to like me and I was with someone else and back and forth, then we got together and you freaked out" she frowned.
"I couldn't help that! Do you honestly think that's what I wanted to happen? To hurt you? To hurt me? It killed me inside Gabi" he said honestly.
"I know. But it did hurt. So much. Then we broke up in therapy…"
"You did that!" he said. "I never wanted that"
"But you let it happen. I felt defeated" she shrugged. "And it only got worse when you told me to date and not wait for you. I felt like you were slipping away, then you kissed your therapist…."
"She kissed me!" he protested. "And I told you not to date but you insisted so I had to give in"
"And it felt like it was over for good" she said sadly.
He swallowed hard, trying to push the thought of that ever happening out of his head.
"Then Sofia talked me into going after you to hear your side of it, and reminded me that you are supposed to be my one in a million guy and I shouldn't give that up. But I saw you with her and ended up hurt again, crying like a lunatic on an airplane. And after all this drama I got here and Adam and I concocted this plan to make you and Amanda jealous and it felt good to just have fun for once, no drama, no heartbreak. What we've been doing isnt fun" she told him.
"Well I guess I'll leave you to it then. I wouldn't want to stand in the way of your fun" he said bitterly , walking away.
Gabi didn't go after him.
They left Hawaii separately and didn't talk at all.
They were both miserable and wanted to reach out to the other but somehow they always talked themselves out of it.
There was rarely a day when one or the other of them didn't see the text bubble pop up on their phone, indicating the other was typing a message. But the messages always stayed unsent.
Since she hadnt heard from Josh, Gabi was forced to take another job, working at a restaurant. Josh was getting by on packaged food and take out, missing Gabi's cooking terribly, missing Gabi even more.
He had continued with his journaling as it helped him express his thoughts and feelings and then reflect on them when he re-read his own words.
Gabi was his solitary topic. She consumed his every thought.
After a few weeks Gabi couldn't take it anymore. She was laying in bed and kept picking up her phone to text him but then quickly losing her nerve.
"Just do it Gabi, you already broke up and aren't speaking, don't think it could get much worse" she sighed regretfully.
"I'm sorry I said we didn't have fun. This. Isnt. Fun." She said trying to emphasize the last part.
Josh stared at his phone, analyzing her words. He was so relieved to know she wasn't happy either but what did it mean? Did she want to make up as friends….or more?" his heart sped up at the thought.
He contemplated how to reply, he hated that they were on such shaky ground that he needed to.
"Zero fun" he replied.
"But I guess you were kind of right. We hadnt been having much fun together with everything that kept coming up" he followed up and added a frowny face emoji.
Gabi typed, deleted, typed again, deleted. The text bubble appearing then disappearing was stressing Josh out, desperate to know what she wanted to say, praying it was that she wanted to be with him, that she loves him.
"Say whatever it is you think you shouldn't" he nudged, then held his breath waiting for her response.
"I miss you. I hate not seeing you, not being able to talk to you." She told him.
"It's the worst feeling ever. If you thought I was a mess the night Caroline broke up, you should see me now"
Gasp* "Wait, you didn't get drunk and have sex with your chef did you?"
"I would if she were here, regrettably she is not" winking emoji, tongue out emoji, heart eyes emoji. He said taking the risk.
Followed immediately with "Can I come over?"
"No need" she replied after a few minutes of torturous silence. He panicked, thinking he had pushed too far.
He stared at her words, confused until there was a knock at the door.
A huge smile covered his face as he hurried over and yanked open the door, feeling like all his hopes and dreams were coming true in that moment.
"I was out the door the second you said you were a mess" she said reaching for him, swinging the door closed behind her.
Their lips crashed into each other as he put his hands on her cheeks as their tongues reunited. Her hands grasped his sides as they kissed hungrily.
She ran her fingers under his shirt, desperate to feel his skin, caressing his muscular form.
She noted the taste of Scotch on his tongue and pulled back briefly to inquire about it.
"Are you drunk?" she asked, looking into his eyes, searching for the answer to her own question.
"Not at all" he confirmed. "I know exactly what I'm doing" he told her and resumed kissing her passionately.
"Then take me upstairs" she panted between kisses.
"My pleasure" he said, leaning down to pick her up under her thighs, hoisting her up in his arms. She wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his shoulders.
"Well that was sexy" she grinned against his lips. "And it better be both our pleasures" she said teasingly as he carried her up to the bedroom.
"You don't have to worry about that" he assured her between kisses.
They got to the bed and he laid her down on the bed gently, following on top of her with his own weight.
He kissed her soft and slow as their hands traced each others bodies, exploring every inch within reach.
Josh's deep blue eyes gazed into her brighter ones telling her everything she needed to know with no words needing to be spoken.
The rest of the night was a blur of tangled bodies, his hands up in her hair, her breath warm and moist on his neck as she purred his name as he drove himself deep inside her.
"You're mine" he low growled as he made her his own.
"I'm yours" she readily agreed, holding onto him for dear life.
They collapsed in each others arms, quiet while they caught their breath. He turned his head toward her and held out his arm beckoning her to snuggle up to his chest. She moved to him, resting on his shoulder, her hand on his chest. He covered that hand with his own.
"That was amazing" he sighed happily satisfied.
"Oh my God" she agreed.
"Yeah I think I heard that a few times or was it just Oh God?" he teased, with a sly grin.
She smacked his arm playfully.
"I love you Josh" she said getting serious, looking at his face for his reaction.
He smiled happily "I love you Gabi. So much" he said and moved onto his side to capture her lips in a loving kiss. His hand moving across her waist.
"Tell me we're going to figure this out" she said, nervously, her hands on his shoulders as he hovered above her.
"We have to, cause I'm never letting you go again" he smiled, his eyes full of love and the truth of that statement.
She pulled him down and into a passionate kiss and they continued to make up for lost time.
